Wedding recap

Note: We never got around to updating the wedding info so now that I have time, I will back-blog.  I just realized I did blog about it (10/5/07), but since it’s already typed, here we go.

It was raining today.  Off and on, but we weren’t prepared with umbrellas.  We had gotten up and had breakfast at the local mall area, just at a Border’s of all places.  We wanted something quick, just to eat so we could get ready for the wedding.  We got ready, had Brandon half dressed, no jacket, but just the pants and little pleated tux shirt, with tie and vest.  When we left the hotel, it had just started to rain.  We took Chih-Hsun to the church.  It started raining harder as we made our way to the church.  We had to full out sprint from where Dave dropped us off (we thought the spot where he dropped us off was the closest, we were wrong).  Dave went to park the car while I ran uphill in heels while carrying Brandon.  I was soaked by the time we got to the church.  Chih-Hsun had offered his jacket, but it was too much work holding it, Brandon and running uphill.  The rain did work to our advantage, because I had not yet done Brandon’s hair.  So I used the water dripping off my arm to “fix” his hair.  He was a little antsy, but our timing was pretty spot on, even though we rushed a bit.  I didn’t want to get there too early and have Brandon go nuts.  There wasn’t much room for him to run around; I think the back area where we were lining up was the mausoleum They make sure that buy cheap viagra erection remains a natural process, only making sure that any hurdles in its way are cleared. Seeing Ithaca

On Saturday, there was a festival in town. We went there after our morning run to Wegman’s. There was plenty of food there, but we had just eaten. So we just got some sweet potato fries and some chicken tenders for snacks before heading over to the Cayuga Lake boats. Kenny and Rachel had chartered a boat for a cruise on the lake. What a great way to see the lake!

It didn’t hurt that everyone was given a drink ticket. And that Dave was close enough to the best man, Kerry, Kenny’s brother, to finagle another few drink tickets from him. Brandon was sleeping so we pushed him in the stroller and even carried the stroller down the narrow gangway onto the boat. Everyone was up on the top deck, so we wanted to join them, but it was definitely not going to happen with the stroller. So we chanced it and picked Brandon up out of the stroller. But to no avail, we awoke the sleeping beast. It was a challenge keeping Brandon occupied for two hours on this boat! I was kind of freaked out about the him and the water and then the upper and lower decks. But he managed, he actually loved hanging out at the stern of the boat and watching the water go by.

After we docked, we were to get ready for the actual rehearsal dinner. This was to be held at the Statler hotel on campus. It was a nice buffet dinner and most of the other out of town guests were in town by today. There were speeches and a touching slide show!

License and Registration

Our vacation part I was complete today as we woke Kathleen up to say goodbye. We took the cab out of the city to LaGuardia airport to the car rental place. It was probably only 7 miles away, but it took us 45 minutes to get out there! It was ridiculous. People were walking faster than us – we weren’t even moving, just watching the meter tick away. We wanted to leave around 10am- hoping to avoid rush hour but not leave too late. Rehearsal dinner started at 6pm in Ithaca and we weren’t exactly sure how long it would take. Supposedly the drive was about 4 hours, but we didn’t want to get the ringbearer there too late. So after getting the car (with Rhode Island plates) and with the GPS all set up, we were off. It was about 11am. Something seemed to be off with the GPS – we seemed to be going in circles. We had a car rental map that was just the main freeways and a partial view of the city and outskirts. And there was still the traffic to contend with, so it was frustrating. Dave then asked me to check one of the settings – sure enough, it was on “avoid toll roads” setting, so it was sending us in a roundabout way. Once we cancelled the toll roads setting, we were headed in the right direction. Luckily we had small change because the tolls literally nickel and dime you to empty out your wallets. Brandon and I were a little drowsy once we started rolling, so we both took a nap. I woke up and saw the speedometer and warned Dave to slow down. No sooner did I say that did we see a state trooper in the center median as we headed downhill towards him. Dave slowed down and we passed him, thinking everything was all good. Until we saw the dreaded lights. He got us! “License and registration, please.” Then he asked the standard, “Do you know why I pulled you over?” To which Dave replied, “Huh?” After the cop repeated himself, Dave managed to say that he was speeding. The state trooper said, “I clocked you going 88 miles an hour” then pointed to the back seat, “with your kid sleeping in the car? Come on, man.” He then asked us where we were going (Dave said we should have told him we were trying to get Brandon there on time for rehearsal, but I guess he figured to be as quiet as possible and not give the guy any lip). After he took the license to process, he came back and let Dave off the hook with a 75 mph, which would have reduced the fine somewhat. He also told Dave to keep it at or below 70 because there were other state troopers down the road. So with an “I told you so look” from me, we headed off.

We arrived at the Clarion and settled in quickly only to change Brandon and head off to the Thai restaurant to meet up with the rest of the bridal party. When we got there, only Aboma and Sara were there. They had shown up promptly at 6pm! Luckily we got a heads up from Kenny that they were running late, so we showed up at 630pm after killing some time at Wegman’s, the infamous grocery store that we HAD to check out as it came highly recommended. We just needed the staples for now – diapers and wipes. We hung out with Aboma and Sara for the next 1/2 hour (we were running out of good Brandon time). Slowly, people started filtering in and hor d’ourves were being set out. Finally the happy couple showed up! We rushed through dinner because we had to get to the Sage Chapel to run through the ceremony. We didn’t even have a chance to eat dessert (my favorite part), it was packed up in to-go boxes. We caravan-ed over to the Chapel, but Brandon had fallen asleep, which was good since it would help him refresh. He slept the long uphill walk up to the Chapel and even as the adult bridal party was lining up.

Rehearsal Walk

It was so hot in the Chapel! We were hoping it wouldn’t be like that on Sunday for the ceremony. Then the ringbearer woke up, in time for a practice run. When Kenny and Rachel asked Brandon to be the ringbearer, he was not walking yet. So the pressure was on for him to walk-in the few months before the wedding, they would ask us, is he walking yet? And slowly but surely, he became a more confident walker and by June, he could hold his own. But could he do it by himself and down a narrow aisle? Avery, Rachel’s niece, was to go down the aisle first, then Brandon would follow. Only Brandon did not get the memo on that one, and rushed past her towards Kenny. We were worried that he wouldn’t walk down at all, but in fact, now we needed him to slow down! We tried again, this time let Avery get a little more of a head start. Again, Brandon brushed past her! Oh well…whatever happens will happen. After that, we went back to the hotel for the evening, and while I was on baby duty, Dave went out to hang out with those that were in town at a local establishment. I didn’t mind because I had some of the dessert! Mmmm…yum.
