Texts…

G’s mom texted me this afternoon in hopes that I could relay a message to G from her. She thought B and G were still in drama together. They are not I informed her. I told her he was doing band as his performing art. G was given the opportunity, but declined in favor of drama. Later, I texted G’s mom to make sure everything worked out okay with pick up, since she’d tried to get a hold of her before she left. She said everything worked out just fine. I texted her to congratulate G on her victory in the primaries. She told me “When she told me who she was running against we were like isn’t there another position you’d like instead??? You can’t run against your friend!” I texted back that we’d told HIM the same thing! At least we’re on the same page πŸ™‚ I told her I was trying to convince Brandon to run for class rep. She was supportive of the idea, but I think we have to wait for the rest of G’s run. Later, I FB’d G’s mom, and we learned we have mutual friends outside of school! A friend of a friend from UCLA is married to a guy that went to high school with G’s dad in Hawaii. And his cousin was the best man of their wedding! Totally small world. Brandon saw texts coming up on my phone, and he saw the notifications and said, “You’re texting G’s MOM?! About me?” I told him we text all the time, but it’s not necessarily about him. All the time. Then, I showed him pics on FB, and both of them crowded around the computer to look.

Math Class; Primary Results

Brandon started their math switch classes on Monday. I was trying to get a sense of what level he was in based on the kids that were in his class. He named off a bunch of kids I knew were in math club, and other kids who I know do well, like the Chess Kids. He mentioned some of them, and he also told me that he was in the highest level class of the four math classes. I assume that he is as the evidence would suggest, but I will have to confirm with the teacher at PTC. I asked how Brandon did on his elections, and he said he lost to Grace. Definitely a worthy candidate! Now, I’ve encouraged him to run for class representative so he could potentially work with Grace, who would have to get through the rest of her elections.

Boss

since the cupcake motivated the kids to get perfect papers (Peyton probably doesn’t need it, but Brandon is sloppy) I decided to give them a quarter for every five they receive.  I told them work gives merit based prizes (most companies). Brandon was surprised and said, “Really?” So I told Brandon specifically that I was his boss. This might have an obvious effect on viagra cheap generic brain function. Sweet Tuesday!

Today, I had a student and was talking a lot. My voice was raspy by the end of the day. It didn’t help that I stayed up late last night watching SF defeat LA in extra innings. I picked up Brandon and read with him in the car as we did last week. He didn’t complain as he knew the routine by now. I asked him if he got his test back from the teacher. He’d been getting 4.5’s and 4’s, but not 5’s. I told him if he got 5’s , then he could participate. It only happens on Tuesdays. And only in September. Today was the only day left in the month to qualify. Last week, on Wednesday, he brought me his grammar test back. There were three parts. He quickly flipped pages to point out 1, 2, and 3 five’s! He was beyond happy! Peyton’s test was in my possession, but not Brandon’s. There was a parent teacher conference going on, so Brandon was denied and told he could have whatever he needed “tomorrow”. He went at 3 pm, before reading, and then right before band, but the parents remained in the classroom. I perched myself outside the band area and waited for the parents to leave. After I saw my chance, I walked up to the room. I explained to the teacher what Brandon was looking for. She hadn’t understood what was going on, and hadn’t seen my note attached to the parent report. We talked about my future readings, and I asked her about where to store his instrument when band starts in two weeks. She told me there was a place, and then I headed back to pick Brandon up as he was done. I waited to ask the band teacher about any feedback, and she told me Brandon was doing a good job. She told me, “Whatever it is you are doing, continue to do it.” Haha…practice. That’s what he will need to continue doing. We went to get Peyton, and then we headed home. Brandon had finished up his homework, so he said he was just going to relax. I told him to go shower up, while Peyton did part of her reading and piano. She then had 5 minutes to shower up, too. She barely made it, and I told her I was going to leave her behind. She was sopping wet by the time we got to piano. Brandon did a great job listening to the teacher today. He knew what was coming after, so he was definitely on board with piano. We headed up to PA with a little bit of traffic. Dave texted me earlier in the day to tell me he’d be home later. When I told him of my plans, he said he’d meet us there. Literally. I hadn’t heard from him by the time I’d gotten there, but when I pulled into the parking lot, there he was sitting on the bench outside the cupcake place. I handed each kid their perfect tests, and then they had to order their own. Brandon went first with the black and white, while Peyton quickly followed with a chocolate marshmallow (Dave guessed hers right, but thought Brandon would opt for the same). Dave was going to order one, so I tagged in with the secret phrase for a BOGO πŸ™‚ Score for me. I ordered the olive oil one, so if I don’t like it, at least it was free. They didn’t have my first choice to try a different flavor – chai latte. Before they could eat them, we told them we’d go to dinner. We took them to pie-ology or as Brandon put it, PILE-OLOLOGY. Brandon hadn’t been before, but both ordered their required 4 veggies, and whatever else they wanted. Both just wanted pepperoni as their protein. I think Peyton asked for Canadian bacon. She asked me if I ordered American bacon. I told her I had πŸ™‚ We each took a kid home, and they ate their cupcakes quickly before heading to bed.

While we were driving home, Brandon told me he gave his speech today. He said he looked at his audience. I’m glad he took the time and did not procrastinate doing it, since they had ‘primaries’ in class. There are three people running for vice-president – two girls from drama (S and G – G, THE G) along with Brandon. He had to run a clean race – no lobbying for votes, no smearing other candidates, and no running on slates. He said he’ll find out tomorrow how the votes turned out. Then, the winner of the class will move on to compete against the winners of the other 4th grade classes. He said if he loses, his time of running will be over. I asked him how he felt during the speech. He said, “I don’t know, I’ll find out tomorrow.” I clarified, “NO, how did you feel, like when you were talking?” He said, “Like I had to pee in my pants.” I just laughed. He said, “NO, by the time I had to talk, I really had to go potty.” Funny dude…I’m hoping for the best, but we’ll see. I’m just happy that he went through the democratic process.

Speech!Β

I picked Brandon up to read before clarinet sectional practice.  He told me that he gave a speech today based on what he wrote yesterday. First Round: Check!

Brandon told me today that, “I wasted another lunchtime.” I asked him why. He said, “I made it past my first round of application for student council. I qualified.” That meant that he had fill out another application listing why he wanted to do student council. He has progressed beyond “Because my mom made me”. You’re not able to call out other people either for good news or bad. He was adamant about it, as Dave was trying to tell him to say why he is better than another candidate. Brandon didn’t want to run a smear campaign. Dave had to re-phrase it, and when he asked, “Why should we vote for YOU?” Brandon was able to better answer the questions. Here is what he came up with. He now listed as, 1) leadership award – I’ve earned it for three years, and it takes a leader to do this job, 2) I want to be involved in school activities, and 3) I want to help the school to be a better place than it is now, and I want you to vote for me.
He wanted me to film it, so that he could review it. It’s his first practice at it. It’s supposed to be under a minute.
Next, he told me that he has new table partners based on his application. I asked who else was at his table. He mentioned one boy that he had on his application, and then G. She’s kitty corner to his table. Something tells me he is having a great year so far.

From yesterday, there was a line in the Lion King that said, “The cat came back”, and Peyton said, “Get it, like the song?” I’m not sure where she heard the song, maybe at school, but it was funny that she caught the reference. She also wanted to know why Pumba said, “Not in front of the kids.” I told her they were talking about farts. She said, “But I already know about farts!” There were a few other innuendos that she may have missed.

Typing Gurus

Brandon was practicing his typing over the weekend which lead to Peyton wanting to do the same.  She was on one laptop while he was on the other.  She, unlike him, wants to get full stars (5).  She won’t move on until she does. And gets super frustrated. Brandon doesnt care as long as he gets past the level to unlock the next.  She did one level at least 10 times trying to go from four to five stars.  Reminded me of when I play candy crush. Momma Bear

Last night, in the middle of the UCLA game at half time, I took Peyton with me to get fro yo as I’d gotten free yogurt for my birthday.  We went, and she enjoyed the few spurts of three different flavored she got as did I.  While we were headed back, I stopped to get gas.  The only pump I found was at the edge, against the street.  There wasn’t a lot of traffic on the street, but there were cars here and there at the pumps.  No one was behind me or on the opposite pump from me. I left the keys in the car for Peyton to continue listening to the radio.  Normally I take my keys with me if I’m alone.  Or I’ve had the phone on blue tooth and let my mom talk to Peyton while I get gas.  But that wasn’t happening either.  I ran my card and entered the zip.  Just as I lifted the pump up, an older man dressed in decent clothing came walking up to me.  There were no other cars around, so I knew he was coming up to me.  I didn’t feel comfortable, given the situation so I kept my hand on the trigger of the pump with it aimed at him.  Turns out he was coming to speak to me.  He stopped a few feet from me and asked me, “Can you spare a dollar?”  I quickly told him no while continuing to face him with the hose.  He walked away while I turned back to my car.  I was ready to shoot fas all over had he made a move closer.  I pumped the gas which seemed to take forever.  A car then pulled behind me with another opposite me.  That man was on the phone and had a white coat draped over his driver’s seat.  He was talking about antibiotics and diarrhea so I assumed he was a physician. I was a little relieved.  But then another man was approaching me. It promotes cell growth order viagra no prescription and increases size of the penis in erect condition. I knew it would take too long to reswipe the card.  Luckily he went away too but I honestly can’t remember the last time I had two people ask me in the same tank of gas for money!! I was in MTN off a busy street.  I got back in the car a bit shaken and proceeded home.  While I was in the car, I recounted with Peyton a story Dave had told me earlier in the morning.  While they waited for their breakfast order outside, Peyton saw a lady park her bike against the tree opposite their bikes.  She told Dave, “Watch out!”  I asked if she was talking to him or the lady.  Dave said he thought it was him as she wouldn’t normally talk to strangers.  Peyton said the lady had a dark blue sweatshirt and scarf.  Dave said the lady was wearing a full ninja hood and mouth covering.  He couldn’t see her face at all.  He stared into the restaurant looking for their food as it was taking awhile for the order.  Peyton told me the lady asked them for mone and daddy said, “No, man.”    What Dave told me was quite the contrary.  He said she came up to him, pulled down her hood to reveal a shaved head and said, “You got a problem with me?” He said he didn’t escalate anything because the kids were around and he didn’t want trouble.  But clearly he thought the lady was off and was looking for it.  Dave kept his eye on her as he didn’t want her to suddenly snap and attack them She’d gotten her food first even though she came in after them.  Again, MTN.  A bit spooky.  It’s too early for Halloween!!  We saw a FB post of some 83 year old who was beaten up by someone in a random unprovoked attack.  He was clotheslined and beaten while he was on the ground.  I am normally pretty scared to walk around and think the worst, but I come into momma bear mode with the sympathetic nervous system in full gear.

Super Sunday

This morning, Peyton came into our room as usual. But she noticed, “I came in later than I ujually (usually, but with a J sound). It’s 7:10 am.” Brandon wasn’t up yet, so we kept her quiet until he was. I told her when he woke up, she could go practice, and I reminded her no tears. She said, “But it’s Sunday. I don’t cry on Sundays. Only Fridays. Well, sometimes.” When we saw his light come on, she sprang up to practice piano. She did it without tears, and then Brandon was up. He finished up, then Peyton changed her clothes to get ready for her game up first. Dave took her to warm up since they missed practice on Thursday. I took Brandon to pick a savory pastry while I got coffee at 85. Then, we headed over, too. Peyton was up fourth. Most balls weren’t hittable, so Dave pitched quite a bit. Here are Peyton’s at-bats.
First:

The second at-bat, she got a hold of it, and roped it into left field.

She held up on second, as she didn’t have a third base coach. After that inning, she was to pitch for the home team. She put up two strikes before throwing a bunch of balls. I think that’s an improvement from last week πŸ™‚

After her game, I quickly rushed Brandon to his game. He was supposed to show up at 1130 am, an hour before his game, but we left at 1125 am, since I’d wanted to see Peyton pitch. We were a few minutes late, but he started to warm up. I waited for Dave and Peyton, then we switched out kids. I took Peyton home to shower up to go see the Lion King at 1 pm. We weren’t much in a hurry, but I wanted to arrive early, so we left at 1220 pm. It was supposed to take us about 15 minutes or so, but as we got closer, I realized that the SJ rock and roll half marathon was going on, even though I’d seen posts about it earlier in the day. It just didn’t click, and apparently, I’d missed the reminders from the theater. I texted Michelle when we got off the off ramp. I found the first spot on the street, and GPS told me we were one mile out. Per GPS, we’d arrive in 20 minutes. I told Peyton she needed to run if we were going to make it in time. So, I started to run, and she followed me. She kept up for the most part. Luckily, I was in wedges. I’d considered ballet flats in the event I needed to run. We shaved off time, and made it to the theater by 1255 pm, both of us “glistening”. Okay, I was dripping. Good thing I was the farthest away from our friends. Peyton sat next to Mckayla, and I went back out to get play bills and see if I could find a booster for Peyton. I came back only with play bills. I didn’t have time to potty Peyton, but she went before her shower. We had about a ten minute buffer, as the show didn’t start on time, but I knew the beginning part could NOT be missed. By the time the show started, I had cooled off. She did a pretty good job considering she didn’t nap, and had a busy morning. At intermission, we headed quickly to the potty. The line was super long as expected for the women’s restroom. We quickly went, then headed back to the Kao’s who were in the lobby area. There was a photo booth set up, so we took a few pictures. The second half of the show had Peyton a bit more wiggly, but luckily, it was shorter. She was able to stick it out, and after the show, she asked if we could just WALK back to the car. We walked back without incident with the help of GPS. I only jotted down an intersection while running to the theater to the first time, but other than that, I had NO idea where our car was. Walking back only seemed vaguely familiar. We finally arrived back at the car, and it was a sight for sore eyes. My feet were a bit sore, as they were not meant to run a mile. I was happy to have us get home safe and sound. Here are the pictures we took, including the ones from the photo booth:
