Busy Friday

Dave left at 5 am this morning, sleeping downstairs so as not to wake us upstairs. I didn’t even hear him leave! We got up at our usual time, and for the first time this week, Peyton was out of bed before I went into her room. Granted, she was lying on my floor, and said, “Um, Mommy, I’m here.” It took a little convincing to have her get dressed, but definitely easier than it has been this week. As a result, they both got breakfast downstairs, around 645am, and we were able to leave a little after 7am. When Brandon arrived at CDC, it was dark. He didn’t think anyone was there, but we saw the gate open. It was raining, and Monica came out to open the door. She told us the lights were out, and that the school, power company, and police were notified. I didn’t know if he’d still have school, but it was okay for me to leave him there for the time being. Peyton’s been staying in the car, so it saves me a little time. I lock it behind me, and she’s happy to stay in the warm. I got back in with her, then we drove to her school. I half-expected to hear back from them to pick him up again (later, I found out that they would be without power for about 3 hours, taking tests through the light from the windows). Drop off for Peyton went well, and I got in to work by 745 am. I worked for about 4 hours before leaving to go to Brandon’s parent-teacher conference. I was at it solo, since it was in the middle of the day and not feasible for Dave to attend. It went well, and I didn’t hear anything I didn’t already know, other than Brandon’s behavior has been doing really well at school! The teacher has seen improvement, and her new request of him was that he not tattle on others. I told her I used to get tattler reports regarding Brandon’s behavior from other kids last year, so maybe now that he’s doing well, he’s taken it upon himself to point out others’ misbehavior. He just needs reminding to mind his own business. But she mentioned he LOVES to help, which is something his preschool teachers recognized and took advantage of to keep him occupied. Penmanship and neatness is something we also have to work on, but this is definitely doable compared to behavioral issues. She even gave me a self-report he did, and he identified that he enjoys and is good at math and reading, while he needs work on “tether ball and tag”. I told him I’d seen his self-evaluation, and when I told him about what he identified he needed to work on, he said, “Yes, I still do. Did I spell it correctly?” I did tell him he spelled the words correctly. We went to the book faire, and he brought me the book that he had been eyeing all week. It’s the last day of the faire, and he attended with his class yesterday, and maybe has been checking things out in the morning before school. He brought me a spy book, and he wanted it mostly for the gadgets. I denied his request since it didn’t have much “book” to it. He told me, “It is $9.99, but $10.24 with tax.” I thought it was funny that he did the math with the tax, like he’d asked already. I think he was a bit off, but he definitely knew that tax was needed. I asked him how he knew the price, and he said that he’d asked so he could bring his money from home. We did find two books for the same price, and another book for $2.50 about Star Wars. We also got one for Peyton. So we headed out with our books and headed home. We talked a bit about what occurred at the parent-teacher conference since he’d wanted to attend when he found out. I told him it wasn’t a parent-teacher-student conference, but just the two former. When we got home, he did his homework because I told him he had to do this before we went to the Kao’s. He agreed, and while he was doing this, Dave came home. He wanted to get ready for the home inspector that was coming over for the appraisal for the re-fi. I wrapped Brandon’s homework up, and we headed out to get Peyton. The inspector was outside, and so was my car. As we went outside, Brandon said loudly, “What’s that girl doing here?” He didn’t know she was in our garage, and he turned the corner to see her there, and suddenly got embarrassed. He started giggling, and then got quietly into the car. He knew he’d been overheard! So, we headed to get Peyton, and Brandon still had his book. He was only at Chapter 2, but stopped reading. I asked him why, and he said, “Um, I’m creeped out.” I had a feeling he’d been too scared to read the books (Goosebumps series). When we got to school, we headed straight to Tarez. It’s been awhile since he’s seen her since the holidays and before that. She saw his book, and she told me SHE’d read the entire series when she was younger. Ms Elena said the same! We caught up with both of them, and by the time we knew it, almost 20 minutes had passed! I lost track of time, and we headed out, got Peyton, and drove home. I think we were home a little after 4pm, but Dave had wanted to be at the Kao’s at 430pm. I had planned to give both a shower when we got home, but since we were late, there was no time. I changed the kids’ clothes, but neither wanted to wear their UCLA gear at first. Dave was prepping the last of the food while I did this. Brandon said, “I want to wear Oregon colors, you know, yellow and green.” I was surprised he knew the connection of the colors since we rarely see the team. But, he definitely knows how to get under Dave’s skin! Dave said something to him, and then he changed his tune. So, we ended up all wearing our colors to support the team. We headed up to the Kao’s and only Ted was there to greet us. The kids hung out in the kitchen, but both wandered into the living room. Peyton had no fear, and went into the slightly darkened room alone, while Brandon followed. Since it was just the two of them, I asked them to play with the toys that were out. Peyton wanted to go to Mckayla’s room, but I told her to wait until Mckayla arrived back from her swim class. Soon, the doorbell rang, and the kids followed Ted to see who it was. It was the Brown’s! Logan and Brandon had fun playing together, while Peyton tried to chase Connor around. At multiple points of the night, I heard Peyton calling for BOTH Connor AND Logan. Dave was NOT okay with it. Boy Chaser! Soon, Marcus came back, and he looked a little concerned there were so many kids playing around with his stuff. He did come join in on the fun, especially after his bath, and after Mckayla came home. The boys played with the cars, and though Peyton had waited for Mckayla’s arrival, I think she was playing hard to get. She preferred to continue playing with Brandon and the other boys. Soon, Mckayla convinced her to hang out in the room, and Peyton went along with her. All the kids played nicely with one another, though Peyton had a little tantrum when playing with Marcus. She hadn’t napped ALL day, since I learned they didn’t go outside due to the rain, so she wasn’t as tired out as she normally would be. I knew I was in for it, and expected a little more of a difficult time with her. She recovered quickly, and joined in the fun again. We took a break to enjoy the yummy food! Ted had grilled some yummy beef, while Dave made broccoli for the kids, and brussel sprouts for the kids and helped me put together the salad I’d also brought for veggies. We were all looking forward to Bonnie’s chocolate brownie-like pie, but the kids didn’t know what was in store. Brandon ate a ton of salad – three helpings! Peyton needed a bit of convincing to eat her meat, but she did eat her veggies. The kids went back to play, while we continued to eat. We were all stuffed, so we needed a bit of time to digest before bringing out the dessert. We told the kids they could watch “Brave” after dinner. They mostly forgot about it, but Logan came in to ask about it. So, we gathered the kids in the family room, and all sat on one of the couches. Peyton was warning everyone it was “a little bit scary”, but she told them the beginning was okay. She told them it was the witch that was a bit scary. I told her to not give away the movie. Brandon chose not to watch, instead he wanted to read Marcus’ Cars book. It was an encyclopedia of all the cars in the story. I think he was avoiding devoting 100% of his attention to the movie, since he was the only one who’d seen it in its entirety. The last time we watched it, Peyton checked out, since I think she thought it was too scary.  We enjoyed dessert, with chocolate pie a la mode.  The kids slowly figured out there was dessert, as I think they could smell it!  Peyton chose Brave over dessert when I told her she couldn’t eat it out in the family room.  She did later have some, but the rest of it fell on the floor, so she went without.  She dropped some ice cream, too, when she was leaning away from Auntie Bonnie.  I’m not sure if she thought Bonnie would eat her ice cream, but she was making a mess in any case.  After she was done, she went to join the others.  Brandon came and went, inhaling his dessert in what seemed to be two bites.  Toward the end of dessert and the movie, Logan came to tell us it was a bit too scary, and asked if I would go and watch it with them. Peyton was close behind him. Bonnie was helping Connor with dessert, so I went out there with the kids. At one point, Marcus was on Brandon’s lap per Michelle’s report! When I got there, Mckayla and Brandon were sitting one end of the couch, so I took a seat next to Brandon, pulled Peyton on my lap, and Logan sat on the end next to us. As the later part of the story started to darken, Logan told me he was scared. I asked him if he wanted to hold my hand, and he nodded. Peyton saw me holding his hand and got jealous, so she wanted to hold my hand, too. I told him we could share, so I held both of their hands (good thing they are little!) Then Brandon got into it, and said he was scared, too. I held his hand in my left hand. So, I had Peyton on my lap, with each of my hands occupied. Mckayla looked a bit concerned on the end, and I asked Brandon if he could hold her hand. He extended his hand, but she gently declined. She was the Bravest!! Connor, too, as he was standing by the other couch, just watching quietly. When the scene wasn’t as scary, both boys calmed down a bit and sat back on their own, but Peyton remained on my lap. He did point out, “Big Bear!” when the bear entered the scene. He went back to watching quietly. With about 15 minutes left, everyone else came to join us. It was getting late, but the kids seemed to be into the movie. Since it was almost over, we rode out the rest of the movie. The movie had a happy ending, unlike the football game that was on. Since everything was already packed up, we were able to leave fairly quickly. Ted came up to me and said, “I got a hug!” Peyton had the Brave sleeve, and I told her to get the DVD from Ted. I told him she probably exchanged the hug for the DVD. So, he tried again, and told her, “Can I have another hug? You can come over again next time, okay?” Again, she hugged him. He’d wanted us to see it in real life. He has come a LONG way…with all the effort he’s put in in the last 2.5 years, since she was old enough to interact with him meaningfully. I was pretty amazed how comfortably she did hug him, and with a grin, too. There was no prodding on my end, that’s for sure! Next time, he said he won’t offer a carrot, but will just ask for a hug, straight up. She is definitely getting more comfortable around others, except she was trying to show Dave this dance that I’d caught her doing earlier in the day while Ted was out of the kitchen, but as soon as she started, Ted walked into the kitchen, and she plopped back on my lap and played it off.  Brandon was fading in the car, and Peyton was still wired, but I’m not sure how since she hadn’t slept.  She was egging Brandon on, “Brandon, are you sleeping?”  Brandon told her to leave him alone.  No sooner than he said that, she, too, was asleep!  We only live a few minutes away, and when we got home, both were out.  Dave poked her to wake up, since we needed to at least brush teeth.  It was almost 10 pm, so it was definitely late.  She looked so drunk, rolling out of the chair.  I got her inside, and she said, “I just want to go in my bed and snuggle up.”  I did change her clothes, got her to brush her teeth, and got fluoride in her before she sacked out.  Brandon went straight to his bed, and I had to get him up and brushed as well.  He changed his clothes, then was down for the count.  Dave fell asleep, too, since he had woken up so early, but I enjoyed some coffee, with mostly milk, with dessert (my FAVORITE pairing), and am now paying for it.  Luckily, it’s giving me the energy to blog about it all. Thanks to the Kao’s for hosting us all, and I was able to have a great time, but it may take Dave a few days to get over it.  The kids had a great time, too!

Here’s a preview of Peyton’s upcoming winter performance.  She sung it in the car on the way home from school, and I was a bit surprised she knew most of the words.  They must be really practicing!

Birthday Plans

Yesterday, Peyton and I were having a conversation in the car. She told me, “Misha told me she had breakfast with Minnie Mouse.” She is the one who I’ve seen not be so nice to Peyton before, but they are friends (frenemies). She said, “But maybe I should go to breakfast with Minnie for my birthday.” I then asked her, “Would you rather go to breakfast with Minnie or go to lunch or dinner with Ariel?” She said, “Um, go to DINNER with Ariel.” Then I asked, “Would you rather go to dinner with Ariel or have a party with your friends at home?” She said, “Go eat dinner with Ariel.” I was hoping that, since we are planning to go to Dland for her birthday (depending on if UCLA ends up in the Rose Bowl), and I was not intending to have this year be the year for her party. Football day

We are getting ready for the big football game tomorrow. At first, Dave wanted to GO to the game, but with the weather, he and Ted decided to stay at home. So we’re ALL staying at their home. I grew up with college football, being dragged to countless seasons year after year. Later, while in college, we had season tickets to both football and basketball. While I don’t know all the rules, I certainly don’t mind watching. But I’m not a fanatic like Dave, but after all, we first met at a football game 😉 . So I will watch the kids, and the plan is to have Ted and Dave in the living room while the kids are sequestered in the kitchen eating dinner, giving them their time. Then he quickly followed up with asking if we were eating S’mores. I told him we were most likely not. He was still happy to be going. Of course, Peyton was excited to go to “Mckayla’s house”. So, if we don’t win the game, we’ll still have a good time.

Paying Attention

Yesterday, Dave found an invitation lying around with Nolan’s information on it. It was from the summer, and Dave had attended with Brandon. Dave asked, “What were their names again?” I told him the mom’s name was Kim, since I’d emailed her to rsvp to the event. Then Dave said he didn’t remember the dad’s name. Brandon blurted out, “Roger.” We didn’t think he was even paying attention, but of course, Brandon always eavesdrops no matter what. Then, I looked up at Dave, and he nodded. “Yeah, that’s right.” I was laughing because I’m pretty sure Dave talked to the dad more than Brandon did. Funny, most kids just know other parents as “Brandon’s mom” or “Peyton’s dad”, but Brandon’s on a first name basis.

Almanac; PTA

Brandon was reading his National Geographic almanac for his homework reading, and he found the article entitled “What your favorite color says about YOU”. He was reading purple and thinking about his sister, since that is one of her favorite colors. The horoscope-like passage said, “If you like purple, you have great taste in anything from clothes to music to food…” He stopped and said, “That’s not true! She doesn’t have good taste in food.” I asked him to tell me why he thinks that way. He said, “She doesn’t even like mushrooms! And doesn’t like spicy food. She DOESN’T have good taste in food.” He had valid points, and I think he was trying to say she doesn’t like a wide variety of food, but he couldn’t come up with other foods she did not like. He named the mushroom because she had one in her dinner tonight, and she made the most horrific face when she saw it, saying, “I don’t LIKE mushrooms!” We convinced her to try it she didn’t even know what they taste like, since she’s never really eaten them before. She did take a bite, then repeated in disgust that she did not like mushrooms. But since she’d bitten into it, Brandon wouldn’t touch it. After dinner, Brandon saw me eating Dave’s wasabi pea trail mix. I don’t care for the peas, so I eat around them. The free viagra online medical professionals of Food & Drug administration act. Peyton quickly finished her dinner and asked for the same. Brandon warned her, telling her she didn’t like spicy food. But she ignored him, not wanting to miss out on what he was eating. Brandon, being the cruel big brother, told her to eat the pea first. She listened, while all three of us watched and waited. Sure enough, as soon as she bit down into it, her face got sour, and she spit it out. She then started wiping her tongue off on her sleeve, and whining, “I need water!” We all chuckled at her, and all of us said, “We told you so!” She quickly left the rest of the mix on her mat, and Brandon came to scoop up whatever wasn’t already in her mouth. She recovered and went on to do her homework 😉

Since we are card-carrying (not really) members of the PTA, Dave attended the meeting tonight to represent us.  They are allocating funds for the various programs, and I’m sure his program will be up tonight.  Also, the principal is discussing literacy, and the topic is how to choose appropriate books for a child’s reading level.  I am more interested in that versus the business side of running the school, so I asked him to gather intelligence on the subject.  Next week, at the middle school, there is a seminar on how to parent a strong-willed child.  We haven’t figured out who will go to that, but at least one of us will.  And for our efforts, pizza will be rewarded.  Maybe that’s how I can convince Dave to go!

A Snug Bug in A Rug

The last two days, Peyton has opted to sleep in more versus eat breakfast at home. Brandon on the other hand, is up and at ’em by 615 am. He is playing quietly in his room, and fully dressed by the time I’m brushing my teeth. After I am done getting ready, I’ve been checking on Peyton, who is just lying around in her bed, in the dark. She will complain that “it’s too bright” when Brandon turns on the hall light in front of her room. After I get the lunches made, and Brandon is done eating, we both go upstairs, at which time I’m prying Peyton out of bed. Today, she was snuggled up warm under her covers. I think Dave had sealed her in when he said goodbye to her, but she was under 5 layers of blankets, and my cold hands must have felt terrible to her! I fix her hair and get teeth brushed, then she gets two oranges in the car, and we’re off to school. I can’t believe she is sleeping or staying in her bed for almost 12 hours! Yesterday, she went down first, at 715pm, and Brandon shortly thereafter since he was wrapping up his homework. She didn’t get to do her homework as we were whisking her off to bed, and she did complain, “But I didn’t get to do my homework yet!” She had read some, so we’ll do the paper homework later today. I’ve read that sleep helps regulate growth hormones, or that “Sleep is a heightened anabolic state, accentuating the growth and rejuvenation of the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems” ; at this rate, Peyton will be a giant!

Inspiration; Nice Manners; A Hug?

Tonight, the inspiration for the blog came from a text from Michelle. She mentioned that somehow her phone had gotten to a former post of mine, dated 5/29/09. In it, I mentioned that it would be at least 5 more years before I could take him to a his first musical or performance.  In fact, it was just 3.5 years later.  And as Michelle pointed out, he is growing up faster than I anticipated!

Today, as I dropped Peyton off at school, there was a little boy sitting on Ms Lauren’s lap.  He had just been dropped off, and he had tears in his eyes.  Ms Lauren was telling the boy that Peyton doesn’t cry when she gets dropped off.  I was hoping to have Peyton not make a liar out of her, since we’d been off school for some time now.  But Peyton quietly took her seat, and started eating her breakfast, while I kissed her on the head.  The teacher then said, “Peyton has such nice manners!  Every morning, she says, ‘May I have more please?’ and ‘Thank you!’ ”  I encouraged her to keep up the great work, and gave her another hug. It’s nice to hear compliments from the other teachers at the school. Like when Miss Barbara said Peyton was very helpful in her class in the morning, helping clean up before she left.  Though she gave a caveat that she can only speak about her when she is in her classroom.  She said, “I can’t tell you what happens in the other classroom.”

SuperDaddy!

About six months ago, I received an email from the theater informing me that the Lion King was coming to town. I debated what time to go, and decided we’d be around for Thanksgiving, so I purchased two of them with the intent of taking Brandon. Finally, today arrived. I was going to head up with Brandon on BART. As we were getting ready to go, Peyton said, “Goodbye, Mommy, see you later.” She wasn’t the least bite upset by not being able to go, as I told her before that it wasn’t for kids under 6. She said, “But I don’t want to see Scar.” So that settled that. Dave was fixing my car; the automatic door lock on Peyton’s side has been out for a few weeks now. We had to order the part, then we were out of town, so we couldn’t get it done. With a little Youtube magic, Dave set to work on it. Earlier in the week, he couldn’t get it done, but he wanted to try once more, as we learned it would be $300 in labor to fix. Right as we were about to leave, he told me he was done with the door, and he was putting the window framing back together. We’d know if it worked once he got things back together. He said he’d be able to take us up there, and then hang out with Peyton. Initially, I’d wanted him to do that, but it was asking a lot, especially if he was needing time to get the door lock done. So, I worked on getting Peyton ready, as both Brandon and I were already ready to go. We headed up in no time, since there was no traffic, and then Brandon and I were dropped off in front of the theater. I brought a lunch for us, and we picnicked out by the farmer’s market. The doors hadn’t opened yet anyway, so we had a little time (about an hour) to spare. By the time we were done with lunch, the doors had opened. We found our way to the mezzanine, and then had to wait until the curtains to that section opened. In the meantime, we went to the potty. Brandon was surprised he was in the women’s bathroom, but I told him I didn’t know where the men’s was, and that it was safer for him to stay with me. He went first, then washed his hands and waited for me just inside the bathroom area in an alcove. It was like a little hiding space for him, as he wasn’t totally inside the bathroom area, but he wasn’t outside with the general public either. We waited only about 5 minutes before the curtains were drawn back in our section. We found our seats right away on the aisle. I let Brandon pick either the aisle or one in, and he chose to sit on the aisle. I’d forgotten that I’d chosen the aisle, but we were 5 rows from the front of our section. The usher offered us a booster seat for Brandon, and we accepted. Brandon put it under his bottom and said, “Hmmm, this is comfortable!” He was busy looking at the Playbill and the theater insides for the next 30 minutes. We talked about the different sections of the theater, and he looked around at all the lights, the ladders to said lights, and the intricate ceiling in the theater.  Then, we talked about how Dave and I had gone to see the same musical a long time ago (probably 1997 or 1998? Talk about “Circle of Life”!). He mentioned how he wants to see Wicked and also Mary Poppins.  Wow, he’s totally getting into it 🙂  After he was done with that, he kept asking for my phone, but I was using it to text Dave. They ended up at the mall, and they even found a Santa to take photos! Normally we go this weekend to get photos to avoid the crowds, but with the musical, we didn’t really have a chance today. But since Dave found a photo op and Brandon was dressed, there was only one thing stopping us. Peyton wasn’t dressed for pictures. So my suggestion was that she needed a black or white party dress for my work holiday party, so maybe he could find something. He was also telling me he missed the showing of Wreck It Ralph, since she’d wanted to see it, too, after hearing Brandon talk about it. Instead, he had lunch with her at a yummy steak house. By this time, I put the phone away, as the lights went out. Brandon was complaining that people were late and it was delaying the start of the show. Again, impressing upon him the importance of being on time to events, especially when there are others waiting. When the show started, Brandon was very excited, though he was tired. He kept yawning, and I was afraid he’d fall asleep in the dark. But the set and the characters were so fascinating, he was able to work past it and watch the whole thing! He was drawn to the characters that were within the audience, especially in our section. I had forgotten about the characters who enter from the orchestra section. He laughed when appropriate, and clapped appropriately, too. He was surprised when then used inappropriate words (“stupid”). When the lights came on for intermission, I whisked him up to the restroom. We made the first round and didn’t have to wait. I put him in the same spot to wait for me, and I went, too. I’d had coffee on our drive up, and it was hitting me. When we left, the line was down the section, at least 30 people deep! There were only 5 stalls, so it looked like it would be a bit of a wait for the 15 minute long intermission. Brandon told me he was hungry and thirsty, so I had him finish up the sandwich from his lunch, and gave him some water. I told him there was a granola bar in it for him, but only after the musical was done and we were on our way to Daddy. He agreed. We came back to our seats, and waited just a few minutes before the next act started.  This time, we benefited from the aisle as one of the performers was standing right in front of Brandon.  He got to watch him sing and twirl the bird around above us.  It was pretty spectacular!  The second act went by quickly, though it looked like I might lose Brandon a few times.  I would look over, then he’d flash me a smile and got back into it.  When it was done, we headed out, and touched base with Dave.  We were going to head to the mall, but it was a few blocks away.  A few sketchy blocks.  I pulled up my big girl pants, took my boy by his hand, and headed out.  I was scared as all get-out, as I’m more of a country mouse rather than a city mouse.  We were walking at a pretty quick clip.  If I’d been with Peyton, I would have had to pick her up and carry her since she wouldn’t have been able to keep up.  Brandon was walking double-time to keep up with me.  There was a guy smoking weed in front of us, and Brandon bursted out with, “Mommy, what’s the smell?”  Again, I put my head down and told him to walk with me, not answering him, as how was I supposed to answer THAT one.  We passed a policeman who was waking up a homeless man sleeping on the street.  I eased up a bit knowing that the policeman was there, but hurried up our pace since the guy looked a bit dazed and confused.  We passed by a bunch of guys just hanging out playing games on card tables, and some that were just hanging out talking on the streets.  I didn’t make eye contact, but I’m sure Brandon was staring and taking it all in. Less than sanitary language was being used, and I was hoping he wasn’t focusing on that either.  He started laughing as we heard some guy throwing around F-bombs, but then he said, “Look at that dog.”  Was he deflecting?  Or was he really looking at the dog?  Who knows. I suppose I’ll find out in the next few days at school/after-school.  We finally made it to our destination, and Dave was in front of us, but didn’t see us at first.  When he looked down from his phone, he saw us.  He’d been shopping!  We walked up to see Santa, then Dave started digging around in his bag of tricks.  While Peyton napped, he shopped at no fewer than three stores to buy her a Santa-worthy ensemble – dress, shoes and even tights!  Fixes cars by morning, and outfits his little girl by day.  He did a great job and was even a savvy shopper, getting a sweater dress for half off, three pairs of Nordy’s tights for $10, and even a pair of ballet flats for $10.  We changed Peyton, then headed over to take our picture with Santa.  We walked around the mall a bit more,  making it Dave’s 5th lap around the area, and then headed to the sandwich shop, ‘Wichcraft, on our way to the car.  We’ve been there before for their ice cream sandwiches, and since I’d only eaten a small snack, as Brandon chose the larger of the snack packs that I’d gotten, I wanted the pumpkin sandwich – pumpkin with mozzarella and hazelnut brown butter. So, we all split one peanut butter cookie/peanut butter ice cream sandwich, then I took the savory sandwich to go.  We drove home, and the kids were so excited to see one another, they talked to each other the whole ride back.  It was perfect, since we both thought Brandon would fall asleep having been out all day long.  But since Peyton was being goofy with him, he stayed up.   The kids finished up Peyton’s pizza from lunch, while Dave and I split a salad.  Both kids read their Raz-kids, then bath, and in bed with lights out by 715pm.  No complaints from either one as we returned to the school schedule, after having had no real schedule while on vacation. Definitely leaving lots of time for me to blog 🙂

While putting Brandon down today, he said, “Yeah, I think I do want to be in a performance when I’m older, like 9 (the actors playing young Simba and Nala were both 9).  He’d previously declined after I asked him after seeing Beauty and the Beast.  He was totally singing the opening song, as well as some of the other songs.

We were trying to select a restaurant that was close to a Target, since I needed to pick things up there tonight.  Brandon chimed in “How about Ba-Jah Fresh?”  He said it again, and I didn’t get it, until I realized, “OH…Baha Fresh.”  My dad was trying to trick the kids this weekend, when Peyton was practicing her spelling, he threw out, “Jalapeno.”  Immediately, poor Peyton said, “H”.  Peyton, hearing us tease Brandon about Baha Fresh, said, “But I say, ‘Home Dep-two.”  Apparently, at the end of Home Depot, so gets dyslexic.  Dave’s told me about it before, since he’s taken her there on What is the benefit of meditation? Before we headed home, Dave turned down the street that we’d checked out in past years.  Fortunately, the lights were already up and even had the radio tuned to the suggested station.  More of the neighborhood houses were done up, too.  We quickly took a look, and Peyton kept telling me, “Mommy, look!  Look at this, Mommy!”  Like she was showing ME instead of us showing her.  I don’t think she remembers going here the last time we checked it out with the Kao’s.  She was too young.  We turned the car back around, and she was heard saying softly, “That was beautiful.”
