Pre-Swim Class

Today, I picked Peyton up, and I was hesitant to ask her what was wrong this morning, for fear it would mess up her class. The teacher told her I was there and it was time to go. Ms. Daisy called out from the closet to tell me “She’s fine, Mom!” Peyton never ended up telling her what was wrong, so I told her I’d try to find out. She was in a jovial mood, so I thought it would be okay to ask her. I asked her simply, “What was up this morning? Why were you so cranky?” She was nonchalant about it, and she said, “My tummy hurt.” I asked her when she started to feel better, and she just said, “Oh, after we came in from recess.” WOW! I really don’t know if it’s car sickness or what, but lately, she’s not been doing well in the car, and especially after swimming. So, we arrived about 30 minutes early to class. I had her change in the car, but I noticed inside that the swim trunks may be backwards. She pulled them down to check the tag, and sure enough, they were backward. Also, she still had her underwear on! I took her inside the changing room and pulled the curtain back. I peeked to see that she wasn’t sitting her bare bottom on the chair, and she said, “Don’t look; I don’t want anyone to see my penis!” Clearly, she’s been listening to SOMEONE else…maybe Brandon? Or one of the boys at school? I was so shocked that I didn’t correct her. We were in the store, somewhat out of view, but still it wasn’t appropriate to talk to her about it then. We went back to the pool and waited our turn. We still didn’t see Dave or Brandon, though Dave’s car was parked, so we left to walk around the other part of the strip mall to see if we could find them. There was an Indian grocery store, and I’d never been in one before, so we walked around. I half-expected to see Dave there, but we didn’t. He later told me he’d gone in there as well. We walked up one aisle and down another before Peyton said, “It stinks in here.” I took that as my cue to leave, as I didn’t want her to keep repeating it. I took her down a spice aisle, and asked her to sniff there. It was very “spicy” smelling, and she just isn’t into Indian food. The swim class went well!  The kids were really practicing their strokes, getting down the pool.  Ready Set Go! Backstroke. Race. Diving. She had them go together, and Peyton did a good job of big arms.  Brandon was able to get across the pool by himself, when Peyton was working on it.  He has a water field trip coming up, and he needs to be able to do a half lap, and tread water for a minute.  I think I’m more confident in him being able to go the distance, but now he’ll have to work on treading water.  I can work with him on this at the club.  Dave wants him to fail the swim test as it will be safer for him.  I’d just feel badly as he won’t be able to swim around with his friends and may be relegated to the shallow end, with the younger kids most likely.  We went to dinner at a restaurant in the neighboring strip mall, but had to find something “tame” for Peyton to eat post-swimming.  She whined in the car home, but I tried to distract her.  She still threw up when we got home.  She must be drinking way too much chlorine, or she has some kind of aversion since her near-drowning.  We’re not sure what to do, other than Dave’s proposal to STOP swimming.  That’s kind of not an option, as she will eventually have to learn not to drink so much of it.  Her gag reflex is still in full force.  She’s my baby bulemic 🙁

Kids’ Preferences

Today, Brandon was telling me he wanted to “stay at baseball camp, sleep over, and then wake up and go back to camp.” He’d heard of sleepover camp, but it was for older kids. He told me, “And stay without Mommy.” I was a little sad, but it meant he was a big boy. Until he said, “But I don’t think I could stay without Daddy.” I had to clarify with him…so “No to Mommy, but you want Daddy.” He said, “Yes!”

Then I got Peyton this morning…while we were waiting for the red light, she told me, “Can you turn this off?” It was Frozen playing since nothing “good” was on the radio. She started to get whiny like she does when she is about to be carsick. She curled up in a ball, and stayed that way until we reached school. When we got in the parking lot, she started to cry and say, “I don’t want to go to school.” She wasn’t budging, and I had to PRY her out of the seat and carry her into school. I was wearing a white skirt, and carrying her sheets, too, which kept dropping. I put her down to sign in, and I thought she was going to bolt! I picked her back up, and carried her in to the classroom. She buried her head into my shoulder. Neha and Tyler were looking at her, which I knew wouldn’t be good. I told Darla what was going on, as much as I knew, since I didn’t really know, and then quickly left! She didn’t want to sit next to Neha, and she was crying more when I suggested it. It’s Neha’s last day of school, so I’m not sure if she’s sad because of that. In viagra on line pharmacy addition, the food pipe is medically called as erectile dysfunction. All last week, she was fine going to school, even knowing I was off and going up to Stanford. I didn’t want to spend too much time asking her what the situation was, since she was hysterical. I got a text from Julie after 8 am telling me she was still very sad. It was totally unlike her, especially at this age! I called school around 1030 am, and Ms Daisy told me that she was the early shift. She tried to ask what was wrong, but got silence. She asked the kids to help her once they got back to their classroom. Peyton regained her composure enough to do the requested tasks. And by 1030 am, she was back to “normal”. I’ll have to ask her what is up after we go to swim class. I don’t want to remind her of it before that time, or it may start all over again.

Scrimmage

Tonight, Brandon had a single game against another of the teams in our city. It was an all star team, and earlier in the week, Peyton and I saw one of the team’s family’s car decorated in the parking lot of the club. I’d even taken a picture of the car to send to Dave. Dave took Brandon first, then Peyton and I went to Target really quick to get milk, return home, then drove to the game. She was so tired from her bike riding, she asked me for a cart at Target! Luckily, I got in there quickly, and she forgot about her earlier request. I knew she wouldn’t be able to walk from home in time for the game to start, so we drove back to the game. Her head was still all sweaty from being under the helmet. She looked like she’d gotten out of the bath her hair was so wet! Brandon was starting in right field, and we were curious to see what a week of baseball camp would get him. He didn’t see the ball too much in right, but he did make his way over to center field, while tracking a ball. He even got props from his coach, while he didn’t catch it, he was on it. The center fielder didn’t make the play, so it was good he was chasing it down. He backed up another player who mis-fielded the ball, but he hesitated slightly to make the throw back into the pitcher. He got yelled at for it, but he fired it back into the infield when he did throw it. He made an out at first while he was there, and he even played short stop and successfully covered second base to make a force out. We thought he caught the ball from another player who tossed it to him, but he told us his teammate put the ball in his glove because he was already standing on the base. At shortstop, he also fielded a ball and underhand tossed it to the third baseman for an out. He also had some good at-bats, hitting the last one out into the outfield. It was a line drive to outfield, and he was held up at first, as there was a runner at second. Using viagra cialis samples Kamagra is the safest way to get erection. He didn’t make any base running errors, but then again, he wasn’t put in a position to run.  The bats for  the team were a bit cold.  After the loss, we took him out to dinner.  While we were waiting for the food, I was reviewing Brandon’s plays, especially the flip to third.  He asked me, “If I can’t get the ball out of the glove, can I just toss my glove and the ball to the third baseman?”  I told him it was probably not a good idea.  I asked him if he’d seen that from the bloopers in the video room from camp.  THAT wasn’t the point of sending him to baseball camp!  They watched bloopers, but hopefully they aren’t learning of things they should be doing.  I told him that was a quick way for him to get yelled at, especially if it didn’t work.  I told Dave about Brandon’s plan, since he was up getting salsa.  Dave told him if he didn’t want to sit out on the bench, he should not do that.  In fact, the coach was going to hand out a team ball, but told the team, “I’ll give it to the one person who wants to sit on the bench during our next tournament.”  I glared at Brandon who looked like he was thinking about it.  I wanted to see if he really had the heart for baseball.  None of the kids raised their hands, but the parents were also all on them, telling them to carefully consider their answers.  Brandon said he knew he wanted to play, but it was tempting, I know.  We didn’t get any good video of him batting; I completely missed one at-bat because Peyton was distracting me even with the ipad!  It was his monster hit to center field, too.  He hit the first pitch thrown, and Dave wasn’t ready with the phone yet.

Be Pacific

I was looking for a red shirt for Peyton to wear for “Red, White, and Blue” tomorrow. It was her “Small World” shirt, but she also used to have a 4th of July shirt with firecrackers. I was muttering to myself, while I was looking through her drawers. She was trying to help me look, and I wasn’t really giving her many details. School Time!

While Brandon was doing his workbook pages, Peyton put herself to work, too. She was working with money, and then finished up her states map. She’s been working on this awhile, doing a few states each sitting. She finally completed it! She just needed help with the spelling, and some of the Eastern border, which I had to look up to help her! After she was done, Dave took her to practice more on her bike. They were gone for a long time, but when they got back, she had a big smile on her face and gave me a big hug. That could only mean one thing! Here’s the footage.  She will need more practice to start and stop safely. The second video.  Here’s another video that Dave took (though it makes me a bit nauseous half-way in).  After awhile, Dave said Peyton told him, “I’m done, I want to go home now. I’m hungry.”  She’d been so excited to go riding, but she’d put her work in and had enough.

These were pictures I wish I’d had when Peyton’s hand was itty bitty.  But I’ll take what I can get at this point.   .  She still has a little finger dimple left…

Then, I was taking a picture of her map,  which she completed.  As she was doing her homework, I was working with Brandon.  She asked me to take a picture of her homework, but I told her to keep working.  The next thing I knew, she grabbed my camera to take her own pics.  Here’s what she took:

Happy Housewarming

Today, we had an easy morning, slowly getting up, though Dave took Peyton to go get firewood for next weekend’s camping trip. She’d already practiced her piano, so she was free to go with him. We headed up to see my dad to get more firewood from under the house, and to say hello, before we headed over to the Kong’s for a housewarming party. They moved, and we were invited to check out their new digs. We arrived when another family did, and the kids all got to play together with the Kong boys and the Alyssa and Alaina. Soon, other families arrived, and the party was in full swing. There was a hot dog bar, and the kids were both hungry. We got them set up to eat, then we headed out onto the balcony to eat our lunch. Later, we migrated out to play basketball. Brandon wanted to stay inside, but Dave was with the other boys shooting around. Peyton wanted me to get her pink ball, but as soon as I brought it out, she told me, “No, put it away!” I think she was embarrassed to start playing. Finally, Brandon asked to watch the Lego movie, and that settled everyone down in one place. It was a good time to go, as the kids didn’t put up a fight. We said our thank you and good byes, then we headed back to my dad’s house. The kids were happy to go back there. They headed downstairs on their own to continue playing, while Dave watched baseball. I was surprised not to hear from either one of them, so I headed down to see what was going on. They were doing different things; Peyton was playing with the match cards, while Brandon was setting up a car track. Later, Dave went down, and he found them playing with different things, but Brandon told us, “We cleaned up the other things already.” We headed out to dinner with my dad, then came home to get my car. Peyton fell asleep in the car on the way back, but she woke up quickly after we got home. Both showered up, and Brandon practiced piano, while Peyton went to bed. I doubt we’ll be able to stay up late tonight, as I missed my afternoon nap 🙂

Last Day of Camp!

Today was the last day of camp. My car’s reverse lights aren’t working, so I dropped Peyton off at school and then took my car to the dealer. Dave met me with Brandon to pick me up. From there, we headed to Brandon’s last day of camp. He got his nametag, and hung out with Nathan when he arrived. The teams broke up into their stations, with Brandon heading over to the cages.  Today was a day of competition, and there were prizes to be had.  Brandon came in third of his team for the cage competition.  He and Nathan were battling it out for first and second place, then all of a sudden, this kid that was half their height came up the winner.  Dave and I left to walk over to get him coffee.  He wanted breakfast, too, so he got that.  I’d split some of Brandon’s breakfast, so I wasn’t hungry.  We walked back over to the rugby field, and they were doing pop up drills.  Again, there was the last man standing competition, and Brandon was doing okay.  He was the middle of the pack, catching about four of them before dropping his.  He joined the other half of the team who’d already gotten out.  Nathan hung in there, but then he lost it, too.  Nathan told us that Brandon got second in the home run derby.  He hit the ball to the fence, and the first place person hit it over the fence.  We missed it because Dave was waiting for his breakfast burrito.  We watched the kids finish up at the rugby field, then headed over with them to watch them get snack and do other drills – fielding, around the horn, and speed drills.  I was waiting for him to get lunch before walking back to T&C for our own.  Lunch came with water or a soda, and I wanted to make sure he got water.  Not only was there soda, but it was caffeinated soda!  The last thing he needs is caffeine.  When we saw him get his water, we took off.  He enjoyed pizza, chips and a bar with his friends.  We walked over, and the whole place was crowded.  We ended up getting ice cream first for lunch 🙂  Dave got snickerdoodle and coffee, while I got blueberry and lavender, with toasted almond.  Since we indulged on ice cream, we went to TJ’s and bought salads for lunch, part 2.  We took it back to watch the games and eat there.  The kids were already broken up to redistribute the teams.  Camp can be from Monday through Thursday or Monday through Friday, and some kids don’t make it back on Friday, so they have to mix it up.  Brandon ended up on a pretty strong team, with three of the players being lefty.  Two kids were playing both first and shortstop, and they fielded the majority of the plays.  We watched from the upper deck, for a pretty good vantage point.  It was hot, though, and we started with, then lost, the tiny sliver of shade from the billboard post.  Here’s a video of one of his at-bats.  After the scrimmage, the kids went back to the cages for another round.  Finally, they ended with the video room, which was just a holding room until it was time to go.  After we found out we weren’t missing anything else, we decided to call it a day/camp for Brandon.  He didn’t complain, even when we walked back to the car, which was outside of the stadium. The kids were both hungry!  Dave told Peyton not to eat the cheesy bread, saying it was too greasy for her.  I asked why he’d say that, and he told me she threw up in the bathroom!  WHAT?!!  I had no clue!  Good thing he took her 🙂   He said nothing came out, but she was just gagging.  Maybe she just has flashbacks from the last time we were here.  So we subbed out the cheesy bread for plain bread, along with chicken and the rest of her food.  She did well the rest of the meal.  Maybe she drank too much chlorine.  She didn’t have sweets before, like last time, so that wasn’t it.  We left after the meal was done, and it was uneventful, thankfully.  Since the kids had already showered up, we just brushed teeth and changed before going to sleep.  I think they will sleep well tonight.  I told both kids they could sleep in.  Brandon was so tired this morning, Dave had to wake him up.  We both went in there, and found him with his eyes half-open, and mouth half-open.  Dave honestly thought he was awake but faking it!  I told him no way, as I was laughing in his face, and he’d never keep his cool if I was doing that while he was awake.  I hope they sleep in, as they both need it!

While I was tucking Peyton in, I asked her why she threw up at ST.  She responded, “I don’t know, but I felt MUUUCH better.” We thought we had a tournament this weekend, but turns out it was cancelled.  We get our weekend back!  While I was tucking Brandon in, he told me, “This week was SOOO much fun!  I had fun with Nathan, and met new friends like Josiah, Finn, and Ashton.”  We did notice what a positive impact the kids around him made.  They were all encouraged to cheer each other on, or they would get their points taken away.  They all did care about each other, support and lift each other up, and helped each other take care of their own things.  Brandon carried his bag wherever he went; he looked like a turtle, with his big helmet sticking out.  He didn’t leave anything behind, and he was responsible.  All in all, this was a great camp for him.  He still wants to go to UCLA 🙂  but we told him it was “okay” to go to Stanford!  I asked him if he wanted to go to UCLA camp (we’ve already signed him up), but I told him Nathan wouldn’t be there.  He said, “Sure!  I can meet new friends.”  That’s the spirit.  We saw some kids who were alone, especially during lunch time.  They are grouped in a team, so they did have some sense of that in eating lunch, and he knew at least one other person, but we did see him alone sometimes.  Luckily, they aren’t ever alone for too long, but hopefully he will meet kids who will be just as good of an influence as he did this week.

Lottery!

I started seeing on FB how people were getting into the Nike run in October. I didn’t have service, and I wasn’t getting all my email downloaded, so I didn’t know if I’d gotten in to the race or not.  I figured no news was NOT good news.  Then Suong texted me that our group had gotten in.  When I actually got home, I checked my credit card statement, which sadly would let me know sooner than an email.  I had a pending charge, and then I checked my email, and sure enough, our group got selected. Exhausting!

Today, I dropped Peyton off at school, then headed up to take Brandon.  He was doing worksheets and practicing spelling in the car (much to his dismay) until 8:55 am.  We rushed him to check in, then I dropped him off with Nathan.  Jo had dropped Nathan off, and she had the girls, so we said a quick hi/bye.  I said bye to Brandon, then I headed to get my exercise in.  I ran the 5K around the fields like yesterday, then I headed to the mall on foot.  I jogged there, getting a little extra more mileage in.  My plan was to get a cupcake (lemon blueberry), but I saw on FB that if the USA won the match today, it was BOGO.  So, I waited around, and in the process, went shopping, did a few laps, and then got my ring cleaned!  It was in much need of some TLC, since it had sunblock all up in the facets.  I grabbed a sandwich for lunch, and went in reverse order to get my ring, then headed back to the stadium.  I waited around for Brandon’s scrimmage to start at 1pm. All the kids are told to remove their hats, and then they sing the national anthem (the tail end).  Kids are asked to volunteer to get up on the dugout to sing. Nathan raised his hand, but Brandon did not.  He did raise his hand for free baseball cards!   He was supposed to be eating lunch, but he wasn’t really into it.  He was watching tv and baseball videos.  I walked over with him to the game, and plopped myself in the shade.  I started to eat my lunch while watching them play.  I was texting Dave all my commentary about how the game was going – what Brandon did or did not do, what he needed work on, what he was doing correctly, etc.  Soon, the game had ended and the kids were all in the video room again.  They had to wait another 30 minutes or so, then it was batting cage time.  He saw me, but I stayed back a bit to just observe.  He was hanging out with another kid whose dad I was talking to at the batting cages.  Nathan had left already, so Josiah took Brandon under his wing.  He’s 9, so Brandon enjoys hanging out with him.  He also has a strong bat, so I’m sure Brandon looks up to him for that.  I found out from his dad that he comes from at least 1 hour, and 20 minutes away every day!  Dedication for sure.  After batting cage work, he was free to leave.  I headed back, and we went to pick Peyton up at school.  We ran into a bit of traffic, as we decided to go on the freeway, since we were going all the way to get to Peyton.  I was talking to Brandon the entire way back about what I observed.  I still think it’s funny when I point things out, and he sounds surprised and said, “Oh, you saw that?”  I told him the good things I saw (his outfield catch of a line drive) and throwing it back in to pitcher.  I told him I wasn’t able to film him fielding, since I never know when a ball was going to be hit to him.  We had a good discussion about things, and he listened for the most part.

We picked Peyton up, then we headed home.  We had about an hour to have the kids eat dinner, then it was time for piano lessons.  Brandon was going to go first, since he had baseball team practice at 6:30 pm.  Brandon left piano at 6:40 pm, then it was Peyton’s turn.  I’m getting more confident in her ability to talk to teachers, as she is definitely sharing with the piano teacher.  She answered her on all the flash cards she gave her on the note values.  She is great with one on one now.  They went through the lesson, with all that we practiced through the week.  She did a great job, and it showed that she was practicing through the week.  They even did a duet, which Brandon had done, too, but I wasn’t able to get video of it.  Here is the duet.  The teacher was impressed because she had only assigned the first line of the song, but both kids wanted to learn the second line to finish up the song.  Both continued on, and the teacher rolled with it.  When I outed Peyton, she was very embarrassed.  She turned around, and gave me a look, and took awhile to settle herself back to the piano again.  Oopsies, Ms Choi knew it, too.  We finished up the lesson, then headed over to Brandon’s practice.  They were catching pop flies and working on fielding.  Then, they played pickle, and ended with that.  I took the kids home, while Dave took care of the field.  Brandon finished up his math for the day before showering up. Both kids were in bed by 9 pm! Such a long day for everyone!  Tomorrow is the last day of camp, and it’s going to be one of competition.  We’re going to stay and see what all the hoopla is about.  Brandon’s done a good job of keeping his stuff all together. The lost and found just from the week is incredible – hats, gloves, water bottles!  Those that don’t keep their gear together have to jump up like a star and say, “I’m a star!” 5 times.  Brandon has told me he didn’t want to do that, so that might be motivation to not leave things behind.
