Exhausting!

Today, I dropped Peyton off at school, then headed up to take Brandon.  He was doing worksheets and practicing spelling in the car (much to his dismay) until 8:55 am.  We rushed him to check in, then I dropped him off with Nathan.  Jo had dropped Nathan off, and she had the girls, so we said a quick hi/bye.  I said bye to Brandon, then I headed to get my exercise in.  I ran the 5K around the fields like yesterday, then I headed to the mall on foot.  I jogged there, getting a little extra more mileage in.  My plan was to get a cupcake (lemon blueberry), but I saw on FB that if the USA won the match today, it was BOGO.  So, I waited around, and in the process, went shopping, did a few laps, and then got my ring cleaned!  It was in much need of some TLC, since it had sunblock all up in the facets.  I grabbed a sandwich for lunch, and went in reverse order to get my ring, then headed back to the stadium.  I waited around for Brandon’s scrimmage to start at 1pm. All the kids are told to remove their hats, and then they sing the national anthem (the tail end).  Kids are asked to volunteer to get up on the dugout to sing. Nathan raised his hand, but Brandon did not.  He did raise his hand for free baseball cards!   He was supposed to be eating lunch, but he wasn’t really into it.  He was watching tv and baseball videos.  I walked over with him to the game, and plopped myself in the shade.  I started to eat my lunch while watching them play.  I was texting Dave all my commentary about how the game was going – what Brandon did or did not do, what he needed work on, what he was doing correctly, etc.  Soon, the game had ended and the kids were all in the video room again.  They had to wait another 30 minutes or so, then it was batting cage time.  He saw me, but I stayed back a bit to just observe.  He was hanging out with another kid whose dad I was talking to at the batting cages.  Nathan had left already, so Josiah took Brandon under his wing.  He’s 9, so Brandon enjoys hanging out with him.  He also has a strong bat, so I’m sure Brandon looks up to him for that.  I found out from his dad that he comes from at least 1 hour, and 20 minutes away every day!  Dedication for sure.  After batting cage work, he was free to leave.  I headed back, and we went to pick Peyton up at school.  We ran into a bit of traffic, as we decided to go on the freeway, since we were going all the way to get to Peyton.  I was talking to Brandon the entire way back about what I observed.  I still think it’s funny when I point things out, and he sounds surprised and said, “Oh, you saw that?”  I told him the good things I saw (his outfield catch of a line drive) and throwing it back in to pitcher.  I told him I wasn’t able to film him fielding, since I never know when a ball was going to be hit to him.  We had a good discussion about things, and he listened for the most part.

We picked Peyton up, then we headed home.  We had about an hour to have the kids eat dinner, then it was time for piano lessons.  Brandon was going to go first, since he had baseball team practice at 6:30 pm.  Brandon left piano at 6:40 pm, then it was Peyton’s turn.  I’m getting more confident in her ability to talk to teachers, as she is definitely sharing with the piano teacher.  She answered her on all the flash cards she gave her on the note values.  She is great with one on one now.  They went through the lesson, with all that we practiced through the week.  She did a great job, and it showed that she was practicing through the week.  They even did a duet, which Brandon had done, too, but I wasn’t able to get video of it.  Here is the duet.  The teacher was impressed because she had only assigned the first line of the song, but both kids wanted to learn the second line to finish up the song.  Both continued on, and the teacher rolled with it.  When I outed Peyton, she was very embarrassed.  She turned around, and gave me a look, and took awhile to settle herself back to the piano again.  Oopsies, Ms Choi knew it, too.  We finished up the lesson, then headed over to Brandon’s practice.  They were catching pop flies and working on fielding.  Then, they played pickle, and ended with that.  I took the kids home, while Dave took care of the field.  Brandon finished up his math for the day before showering up. Both kids were in bed by 9 pm! Such a long day for everyone!  Tomorrow is the last day of camp, and it’s going to be one of competition.  We’re going to stay and see what all the hoopla is about.  Brandon’s done a good job of keeping his stuff all together. The lost and found just from the week is incredible – hats, gloves, water bottles!  Those that don’t keep their gear together have to jump up like a star and say, “I’m a star!” 5 times.  Brandon has told me he didn’t want to do that, so that might be motivation to not leave things behind.
