Aladdin!

Today, I took Peyton to piano while I “sent” Brandon to band. Drama wasn’t meeting up until 5 pm, but he either sat with me for 45 minutes or just went to band. I picked him up at 345 pm, and we headed home to do homework and eat. We left by 440 pm, and then picked G up from her house. She brought treats for the kids – coconut pieces, salted plums and cadbury eggs (her Hawaiian relatives sent her some easter stuff). I told her, “Brandon looooves coconut!” Brandon asked her if she had water, and she said no. He said he was told to bring water. He told her he was nervous, seeing all the chairs set up in the multi. Both big kids got out of the car and ran to the multi, separately, while Peyton took her geriatric self to get out of the car. The big kids got to the multi before we even made it half way. Since they were inside, I turned around and got treats for tomorrow and flowers for him today. Peyton went to shower up at home, while Dave and I packed up our gear for the performance. We won the auction, so we had 2 seats to the front row. Peyton was told to go with friends, and she had no shortage! It was drama, the second generation – Hope, Violette, Karlee, and Peyton! It will be so much fun for all these kids to be in drama together, having “grown up” together. Peyton went to sit with Hope and her mom, and the other girls, while we set up shop in the front. We were SO close to the stage, as it was built out away from the main stage. The show started, and it was a great one! There were a few snags, and even one point, where it was super quiet. Suddenly, Brandon pops out of the wing! Ai-ya. Later, he told us the other guard was too embarrassed to go out, but Brandon said, “The show must go on”. Yay for his sometimes-ambivalence. He told us he didn’t hear the cue from the other line spoken by the other guard.

Softball!

I left work and headed straight to the softball game. I got there to see the team warming up.
Grounders work:

Peyton was lead off batter today. Peyton’s team was the home team, so she had to wait a half-inning to get up. She played second base the first inning on defense. Not much came her way, but she was in ready position. It is hard to get a good defensive play on “film”.
But it’s easier to get offensive at-bats.

Lead off…

The girls batted well, and they almost got around the batting order, but got 4 runs first, so the side was retired.

She played center field for the second inning. I think she and Dave were just chatting out there. No balls were being hit her way, but she was mostly in ready position.

For the final inning, she played third base, and the other team started to hit a few balls. Peyton had runners on first and second, and the ball was hit toward third base. She fielded the grounder, and ran right back to her base for the force out!

Final at-bat:

I left to go rescue G’s family from “Brandon”. I had texted G’s mom to help me get Brandon from drama. G’s dad drove him home, and I went there from the game to pick him up. In the 10 minutes that he was out there, he managed to step in Cody’s poop. In his socks. Yup, no shoes on, running around outside with G and H. UGH. He was safe and sound, and we headed home just as Dave and Peyton were entering the front door. Another late night! Piano was practiced by Peyton, and then both kids went down well after 830 pm. The first performance is tomorrow!

Three Places at once

Today, I got off work and went to get Peyton. I had to stay a bit later, so I didn’t get to her until after 3pm. She had enough time to wolf down some food, do her math homework, and then took a shower. I whisked her off to Abbi’s, and she was super excited to be there. I was trying to hurry back to school, but she kept jumping up to me. I wasn’t sure what she was doing, but she was giving me some fishy lips. Ahh…she wanted a kiss! Or two or three. I headed back to school, and helped serve dinner to the drama kids. It was easy as it was pizza, grapes, and brownie bites. I stayed until they finished up, then I headed to the end of the baseball game. Peyton was being driven to the girl scout meeting from 6 to 7 pm. I wasn’t sure if he’d be done by 630 pm, so I was going to leave him with G’s dad to take home with him. Luckily, they were done exactly on time, so we made it to the last half inning of the game. Caleb ended up there, too. We could’ve had a drama-baseball game carpool! The team was losing by 5 runs, but ‘better’ than the other game. I left Brandon there, and headed to get Peyton. We re-convened as a family back at home. Brandon ate his second dinner before going to shower up. Peyton had a great time with her playdate and meeting. A few more days…!

Consciously coupling!

Today, Brandon told me T (boy) pushed T2 (girl) off the stage at drama practice. Then I asked about one of the girls who I knew, who she liked. It’s going to get real interesting when they all start swapping interests! We’ll see.

Wicked

I got Peyton to practice piano early this morning, while Dave took Brandon to find black shoes for drama.  We left just after 11 to give us enough time to get there. I had her sleep, and she went down as soon as she closed her eyes. It took me about an hour to get there, and I parked by my dad’s office. I had to get something to him, so we stopped by to say hi and use the facilities.  We walked over to the theater, about 1.5 miles away.  I thought the parking may be tight, and I’d already found a spot there at the office.  It was a bit sketchy to say the least. I grabbed Peyton’s hand tightly and walked with a purpose.  I was scared, and I didn’t talk to Peyton at all as we were keeping a good pace. It took us a little over 20 minutes.  I got her some food at the farmers market; Heidi’s pies, which was our hangout spot on weekends growing up.  She chose the pot pie, and I fed it to her to avoid getting her messy.  She wasn’t too hungry, but I didn’t want to push my luck and not have her eat for another four hours.  We went potty again, then we found our seats. I grabbed her a comfy booster seat and waited for the show to start.  She was on the aisle and had an unobstructed view.  Our seats were orchestra seats, just under the mezzanine. We sat right where the incline started, so it was a great vantage point. We’d been listening to the soundtrack for the past few months. She knew all the first half songs and most of the reprises for the second half.  She was silent and motionless for most of the performance.  At intermission, I pushed her into the aisle to make a beeline to the restrooms.  Other people were running over in line, too. We were third in line after the first stalls filled up.  We went to sit back down and heard the couple behind us talking about taking selfies. I turned around and asked them if they wanted to swap cameras for pictures.  They whole-heartedly agreed.  We headed down for some pics and to show Peyton the orchestra.  We sat down right in time.  After the show, we hung out at the back stage door as the usher had suggested. We saw the actors filing out behind the scenes. Peyton wasn’t bold enough to take pictures but enjoyed seeing them come out.  We saw a coworker and her family there.  The eldest was there seven years ago but it was the first time for the other two.  We headed back to the car after saying goodbye. We walked quickly once again, and even kept pace with the bike police to feel safer. We made it safely back to the office to potty again before leaving the city in one piece. Phew! It took us almost another hour once again. What a long day! But she loved it! I hope she remembers it for years to come.

I got home to practice piano with Brandon. This week is another late and busy one with drama rehearsals until 6!

Double baseball and FAME!

This morning, I had the kids both practice piano before heading off to their respective games. I got there early for Peyton to warm up. Two other coaches were there already with their daughters.  Peyton took her stuff to join them.  The game started right on time. She’d forgotten the water bottle on the table.  I was worried about getting the rest of her hear together. I had coffee in the car that I quickly downed and filled it up with drinking fountain water. Better than nothing.  But ick! The team mom hasn’t seen much of Peyton as she’s missed a couple of games.  She asked me if Peyton had been playing for long. I told her it was her fourth season.  She just told me how little Peyton was.  And worried her uniform didn’t fit her.  We made due, and shoved her shirt into her pants. She was third up, as we were the visitors. I was standing with her coach from last year who is coaching t ball again. He saw her smack the ball past second base. The team mom turned around and asked me what I fed her this morning! “Wheaties” was my answer, but I think it was a waffle. She didn’t fare as well at her second at bat, striking out at the hands of her coach. She’s used to Dave’s or coach G’s pitching. Oh well. She got a piece of the ball at her third at bat, enough to get on base.  Their team was ahead, but the other team got a four run inning to go up by two. There’s no score kept, but one of the girls totally knew the score. After snacks and one girl who passed out Easter eggs, we headed to the family grocery store to decorate eggs. Dave was staying to watch another game after theirs.  They got crushed! Peyton had a great time dyeing Easter eggs. She was given three in a basket with grass.  There were stickers, crayons, and lots of colors. She had some ice cold water, snacks and a goodie bag.  She saw some friends from school there, but it wasn’t too crowded.  After she was done, I grabbed some lunch for us, and we headed to the field to join the boys.  I left her there with her stuff and headed to work.  I stayed there for a few hours, then headed home to the kids playing with Legos and a model set. Dave’s easy way out!  I finished up with piano for Brandon then headed to shop for Chinese Kung fu shoes for Brandon’s play. We went to the outlets then had dinner.  We didn’t find shoes, but I got something for Peyton to wear tomorrow for the play. We went to get dessert after dinner. While Dave was ordering I saw a kid by himself order after. It looked like a tv actor kid, and I texted Dave to turn around and look. I pointed to my phone, but he didn’t understand. The kids asked, “Your phone dead?” Finally I just told him to check his phone.  He finally got it and acknowledged and confirmed. I googled images to figure it out “Asian Jewish kid on FOTB” and sure enough his picture showed up. The kids have never seen the show. But when I showed Brandon his picture and nodded to the kid, his head almost whipped off his shoulders!  That followed by the widest eyes ever seen.  I think the kid knew we were up to something as every time he turned around, I was staring at him.  He even came to sit next to us to wait at the table next to us.  Finally, I spoke up, “Excuse me.”  He turned around, and i asked him if he was on FOTB.  He smiled and said yes.  I chatted with him about school and how he manages both acting and school. He told us he was in sixth grade.  We asked if he could take a picture, and he agreed.  The kids willingly went to stand next to him.

We said goodbye to him after he got his food. He was a well-spoken kid and hard to believe he was only a year older than Brandon and two grades above!

We headed home and the kids were barely awake. Dave dropped me off to pick up mail. As I left the car, Peyton said, “Bye, Mommy.”  I did agree to walk back but Dave said, “Even after you left the car and were going to walk home, she told me, ‘Mommy can just walk back.'”

More Baseball!

Today was a busy one. It started bright and early with me at work by 6 am. I worked for two hours before returning to school to chaperone Peyton’s play. I had two boys and her. The boys were a bit restless in the car, but it worked out okay. Peyton was helping me keep them entertained talking about Transformers, Singapore and snow. There were a few songs that came on the radio, and she had no problem singing in front of her friends. The boy asked, “Is this the singing car?”  One of them asked her if she knew who sung the song she was singing.  She said, “Yes, it’s Justin Beiber!”  I could almost see the eye roll!!

We arrived and had no problem parking. We got to the theater and set up with four seats on the end. Despite having a cup of coffee in the morning, I couldn’t stay awake in the dark! I kept dozing off, but half way through Peyton messed up her zipper on her sweatshirt. I was determined to pull the zipper apart, which kept me awake because I was on a mission. I did better once the show was over and I concentrated on getting us back to school. We were driving in front of another mom and the teacher, so I was being super careful. I deposited the kids back at school and ended up back at work sooner than I thought I would be. I left by 2 pm, but I got a call on the drive from the school nurse. She had Peyton in there, who was suffering from a rash. She was super itchy and her skin was inflamed from the scratching. I went home to get her new clothes and forgot the Zyrtec that I was going to pick up. I changed her clothes in the office, then headed to get Brandon. We took his bag, and went home to get the bottle of zyrtec to take. I was worried she’d be itching all through the lesson, but I never heard the teacher complain about it. By the end of the lesson, she told me she felt better. Good thing it worked for her. We went back to get Brandon, then had him change into his baseball clothes. Dave came home soon thereafter to take him to the field. Peyton finished up showering before we headed to the field right before the game started. I had her dinner ready to go, then learned I was going to be keeping pitch count. I had to keep track of the pitch count for our team. Peyton helped out before going to play four square with some other siblings from the team. The team started off to a rough game, dropping 5 runs in the first half-inning. They came back to get 1 run by the bottom of the 1st. It was looking pretty bleak, but they started turning the game around! Brandon was the third pitcher being used, and I cringe since he is not the most consistent. Today, he was on fire! He faced 6 batters, and had 4 strike outs. He had to relieve another pitcher, so he started with one out. He finished up the inning, and then held the next inning to scoreless. He gave the team a chance to come back! That almost happened in the 5th inning, as the bases were loaded with two outs. The runner on third made a bold move to steal home on a passed ball, but unfortunately, he got tagged out. This was ours when Brandon was pitching:
