Wicked

I got Peyton to practice piano early this morning, while Dave took Brandon to find black shoes for drama.  We left just after 11 to give us enough time to get there. I had her sleep, and she went down as soon as she closed her eyes. It took me about an hour to get there, and I parked by my dad’s office. I had to get something to him, so we stopped by to say hi and use the facilities.  We walked over to the theater, about 1.5 miles away.  I thought the parking may be tight, and I’d already found a spot there at the office.  It was a bit sketchy to say the least. I grabbed Peyton’s hand tightly and walked with a purpose.  I was scared, and I didn’t talk to Peyton at all as we were keeping a good pace. It took us a little over 20 minutes.  I got her some food at the farmers market; Heidi’s pies, which was our hangout spot on weekends growing up.  She chose the pot pie, and I fed it to her to avoid getting her messy.  She wasn’t too hungry, but I didn’t want to push my luck and not have her eat for another four hours.  We went potty again, then we found our seats. I grabbed her a comfy booster seat and waited for the show to start.  She was on the aisle and had an unobstructed view.  Our seats were orchestra seats, just under the mezzanine. We sat right where the incline started, so it was a great vantage point. We’d been listening to the soundtrack for the past few months. She knew all the first half songs and most of the reprises for the second half.  She was silent and motionless for most of the performance.  At intermission, I pushed her into the aisle to make a beeline to the restrooms.  Other people were running over in line, too. We were third in line after the first stalls filled up.  We went to sit back down and heard the couple behind us talking about taking selfies. I turned around and asked them if they wanted to swap cameras for pictures.  They whole-heartedly agreed.  We headed down for some pics and to show Peyton the orchestra.  We sat down right in time.  After the show, we hung out at the back stage door as the usher had suggested. We saw the actors filing out behind the scenes. Peyton wasn’t bold enough to take pictures but enjoyed seeing them come out.  We saw a coworker and her family there.  The eldest was there seven years ago but it was the first time for the other two.  We headed back to the car after saying goodbye. We walked quickly once again, and even kept pace with the bike police to feel safer. We made it safely back to the office to potty again before leaving the city in one piece. Phew! It took us almost another hour once again. What a long day! But she loved it! I hope she remembers it for years to come.

I got home to practice piano with Brandon. This week is another late and busy one with drama rehearsals until 6!
