Jokes

So, Peyton’s deal with the girl scouts leader is to talk to her. First, it was one word. Then, it was a sentence, which turned into a joke last time. Today, she had a follow up joke. The leader was late, then had to do the bulk of the lesson, so there was never alone time. Then, it was time to go, and Peyton was reluctant to talk to her. The moms were all gathered, while the girls were playing on the jungle gym. Before I let her go, I made eye contact with Shanin. She asked Peyton, “OH, do you have a joke for me?” She nodded. The whole circle of moms turned to Peyton and asked, “Oh, Peyton’s got jokes?” She was horrified! Shanin asked, “Too many people?” Peyton nodded vigorously. Shanin pulled her into the house, and the moms were asking me about jokes. One mom in particular started asking me many questions – “Does she learn them on her own?” “Does she practice them at home?” “Does she like telling jokes?” I had to explain the shyness situation, and how she was slowly reaching out and talking to Shanin. Then, I stepped back and leaned into the house. Peyton was telling her the, “Why can’t you keep secrets on the farm?” I didn’t hear her ask the joke, but I did hear her punchline. Shanin had guessed that she knew it, and said something about “MOOO”. Peyton told her, “No, because the corn has ears and the potatoes have eyes.” Shanin did give her a hearty laugh, and I gave Peyton a high five before she was going to go on the swings.

The Truth

Brandon farted in the car when I picked him up. It was super stinky, and Peyton said, “Ew, it stinks, Brandon!” He said, “I must admit. It DOES stink.”

Peyton has been having some trouble in her classroom all last week. She lost her ipad time for today based on her behavior yesterday. Last night, I had to come up with a different “carrot” since she didn’t care about ipad time this past weekend based on her school behavior. I drew up a reward sheet to earn a poetry book, as well as included “daddy softball time”. 20 minutes for each day with 40 out of 45 stars on her sheet. I tucked her in last night, and told her how her behavior at school made me sad. She admitted that she didn’t want to make me upset or unhappy. So, I had her pinkie promise. She was reluctant to do so. Like bashful! Finally, she did pinkie promise me. There is an added attraction – a photobooth where you can take black and white viagra india strip pictures. Today, after 2 pm, I started looking at my phone for emails. None! I picked her up, and she was eating her snack, so I fished out her star sheet. I counted them up, rather, more than not of them were filled out, so I subtracted. She lost only three! She proudly looked at me and declared, “I had a better day today!” I asked her what made her change her behavior. She said, “Well, I pinkie promised you, remember?” I gave my girl a big hug, and pinkie promised her for tomorrow. She said she got upset in school, and drew me pictures instead of getting upset. She said she left them at school. But because of her better behavior, she was able to get a gold card! I informed her this is her last trimester of kindergarten! She says it is 42 more days. I challenged her to get at least a 4 or 5 for her behavior. Let’s see if that motivates her! She needs to be challenged after all. So far, she has 20 minutes, though she told me she will get 80 minutes (20 minutes for today through Friday).

Catch Up Day

This morning, I asked which kid wanted to volunteer for piano first. Brandon immediately did, knowing he just wanted to get it over with first. He finished up within a half-hour, more than usual for this part of the weekend, because of the skipped practice on Friday. He got to eat breakfast after that, while Dave had already taken Peyton for his morning coffee run. (She kinda won for NOT volunteering; fortunately, Brandon didn’t notice!) After a big oatmeal breakfast, Brandon agreed to work on his commercial. He made a cereal box for his book report for school this month, and the follow up is to write a 1-2 minute commercial. Since there would be lots of editing, I had him type it out. It would also help him with his typing, as they have their test coming up this trimester. He worked through this process for over an hour before it was time to print it up and practice. He got it to just one minute, when he spoke slowly. I reminded him of his teacher’s assessment of his public speaking skills, so he had to continue to improve upon that. For above grade level work, he has to memorize his commercial, so he’s working on that part now. They will film it in class, so we’ll see how he performs. He finished in time for lunch, and Peyton and Dave hadn’t returned home yet. I told him I needed to go out and get salad stuff, but he said he was already out there getting it at that time. Good thing, since we didn’t have much time for the “exchange”. I had Brandon change for baseball practice, which was at 2 pm. And Peyton needed to nap. She also informed me that she hadn’t practiced piano, in an attempt to delay naptime. We went for it, but it wasn’t as a great an idea, since she was tired. Dave said she did a great job at baseball, really getting things together. She has a stride in her swing, that Dave says even Brandon hasn’t gotten down. He was practicing more pop flies with tennis balls so she isn’t afraid to get under the ball. Dave said she’s way ahead of where Brandon was at her age. I’m excited to see how she progresses, but they were out there for almost 2 hours. He was so impressed with her, he got her some ice cream since she misses out on all the snack shack things Brandon gets. Peyton told me she wasn’t tired, but I didn’t believe her for a second. We both took a nap, and when she woke up, she had one more song to go for piano. I got her ready to go, fixing her hair, which Dave hadn’t done earlier in the day. It was a tangly mess. I had planned to go early to the Kao’s, but since we were lagging, I decided to just wait for the boys. They came home right around 4 pm, and Brandon just changed and we took off. Everyone was in the backyard already, and the kids didn’t need warming up at all. They were too comfy with each other, with an injury right off the bat! I turned around, and Peyton had hit a pedestrian in the car she was driving! Ai-ya. Marcus was her victim, and I got her out of the car to check on him. They ended up playing together with a sticker book while the other kids played in the secret hiding place. Eventually, the car was driven again, but this time in the confines of the tennis court. Luckily, Marcus was driving it there, as Peyton’s driving skills are clearly in need of help. Dinner was soon ready, and Brandon ate with the adults, as I was worried he’d tip the little table over with his weight. Peyton and Mckayla were somehow antagonizing Marcus, but eventually, they did finish eating. Dave put on Big Hero 6 as the kid whisperer, so the adults didn’t have to referee too much. Stuart said that Connor asked Peyton if he could sit next to her, and Peyton happily agreed, fixing him a place next to her. Brandon said that Marcus told him to sit next to him. They did all watch, though Brandon was playing with nerf stuff when I saw him. They took a break for ice cream and yummy chocolate pecan pie that Bonnie brought. It was delicious as always! Peyton didn’t get ice cream, since she’d gotten it earlier in the day. She made up for it by eating the almonds that were on the table, along with Connor and Mckayla, an “eater” represented for each family. The movie was continued until it was time to leave. We said our thank you and goodbyes for a nice turkey dinner, since we’re a bit off from our next T-day. Thanks again to the Kao’s for their hospitality. We got home and the kids showered up and went to bed.

Baseball

Yes, seems like all we do these days. Well, and homework. The kids were up later than usual this morning, in part because of the walk a thon. We didn’t have much snuggle time, but at least we were the visiting team, meaning no field prep today. Peyton and I arrived first, and we started to warm up. She wanted pop flies, so that’s what I threw her. Soon, the other teammates arrived, one by one. I warned Peyton she wouldn’t be first or home run hitter, so she should just relax. And that she should keep her hands out of the dirt, and pay attention. We’ll see…
here’s her first at-bat. I film since Dave isn’t there… just in case it’s something exciting:

Second:

Third:

Peyton played short stop her first inning on the field, then short stop, and then first base.

Here’s one of the better plays, which was almost an out. It’s the best 3rd inning she’s had, since it’s a great position for her to pay attention. The goal of each play is to throw to first base, so she has to be ready.

Then, we had snack, packed up and headed to Brandon’s game. They were the visitors team, too. This will be the last back to back game, so the boys can watch Peyton from now on 🙂
I left my phone in the car, so no footage. Brandon had a great play at short stop when he fired a rocket into the first baseman’s glove for an out. He tried it with another first baseman on another inning, and the first baseman didn’t catch it. He was a little smaller and more timid, but David G. is solid! Brandon has a few teammates he knows he can throw hard to, and they will catch it every time. I think other times, he just throws it and hopes for the best. There were a couple inside the park home runs against our team, but to their credit, they tried to make plays, not just kill the ball at pitcher.
We came home, and Peyton ate lunch, then napped. Brandon worked on his homework, before they left for game #2. Peyton earned ipad time from good behavior from the first game. We showed up just as the teams were starting to play.
Brandon was playing for another team, filling in, but he got good positions!
Here he is at pitcher:

He also fielded a ball at pitcher that he had to back-hand stop and throw to first base for the out, but Peyton was talking to me 🙁
I even texted Dave, “UGH, missed it.”
Here’s one of his hits. The other team is from a different league, and they are overall a much better league. We played them on Tuesday and got creamed.

Report Card

Since Peyton was kicked out of class yesterday, she didn’t receive her report card. While the other mom was reading today, Mrs. M delivered it to me where I was sitting in the class. I couldn’t contain myself, and I opened. Peyton had super sonic hearing today, and turned around. “What’d I get?” She was referring to her sportsmanship grade, which she was to get something higher than a 2, which she and Brandon had both gotten last trimester. I told them they both had to get at least a 3 to go to golfland. Brandon had earned a 3 yesterday, so she really wanted to know. She was so excited, she even said, “I beat Brandon!” Haha…nice sportsmanship. I told her the teacher must have filled out her report card BEFORE this week’s antics, since her current behavior was not what the report card indicated. I’ll use this as a carrot to keep up the trend for the third trimester so she can continue the path to first grade.
Here’s the summary. They don’t give reading and math scores yet.

WAT

Today was slated to be a long one at school. Dave left by 7 am to go help set up for the Walk A Thon. I took the kids to school by 8 am, and I prepared myself to read in Peyton’s classroom. She was to spend her recess picking up trash, and her lunch in the office because of the antics from yesterday. The reading went well, and after, I went to help set up as well. I crossed paths with Dave a few times, but I was helping with fruit preparation. After 30 minutes of food prep, I went to the multi to watch the kinders. I briefed with Mrs. M to take Peyton and V to the office after lunch was eaten, so they’d miss out on their recess. Both Peyton and V had independently written notes to Mrs. K. I was so embarrassed when I saw Diana, knowing what Peyton had done to her the day before. She said she felt badly, and didn’t know what to do herself. I reassured her she did the right thing. She said she was laying awake last night re-hashing her response. Peyton did hand her the note, which I’m glad she did it on her own, without force being used. Both girls went willingly with me to the office, where they were awaiting them. I did remind both of their behavior and V told me, “This is the first and last time this will happen.” I hope she’s right. In one way, I’m happy they weren’t fighting with each other; too bad they just got in trouble with each other. So I went to supervise the kids who did not belong to me for the next 25 minutes. The principal brought both kids back to the kinder area after they were done. I left the area after telling Peyton goodbye, and went to eat lunch on the blacktop with Dave. He had a tri trip sandwich, while I had vegetarian Indian food – samosas. It was great chatting with the various families we’ve met along the way, especially since Dave and I are hardly ever on campus together, and without kids at that moment, nonetheless! Then, the kids were dismissed, and I gathered Peyton, while Dave had Brandon’s stuff. We re-applied sunblock, and then the kids walked one lap with their teachers and classes before being set loose. I couldn’t find the kids for the longest time. Even Peyton! There was a sea of green shirts. After standing on the sidelines for several minutes, I finally spotted Peyton. The plan was to walk with her, while Brandon ran with his friends. Only, Peyton wasn’t aware of the plan. She took off running!

proof…she’d run periodically on her own!
I could only keep up with her for so long, as she was weaving in and out of traffic that I couldn’t squeeze through. So, I chatted with moms I’d see here and there. Namely, V’s mom. We had given the girls the SAME lecture! We each said the other mom wouldn’t want our daughter playing with the opposite daughter if the poor behavior continued. And funny we each had them write an apology letter AND make them do the laundry. Great minds 🙂 I was happy to have chatted with her, as I wanted to make sure we were on the same page, and we were. Peyton did say, “I saw you talking to V’s mom.” I told her we shared notes about the other’s conversation and agreed. She was thinking about that one for a bit and remained quiet. I didn’t see either kid eat their Otter Pop, but both knew that I’d let them eat it since they would earn it. Later, I bought Peyton some cotton candy, and then Brandon happened to ask me, too. We had plenty of tickets to spend, so I got Peyton pink, and of course, Brandon wanted blue. Dave had one shift punching lap cards for the final hour. I stood by him and fished out our kids periodically when I couldn’t find them. Grace, Brandon’s friend, stopped me several times to say hello and check in. I love being “Brandon’s mom” and “Peyton’s mom” to the kids. The final bell sounded at 430 pm, and both kids found us. Peyton walked an astonishing 51 laps! That’s 4 more than Brandon ran at her age, and I didn’t even have to push her like I did with him. He cried, whined, moaned, and did 47. She ran, and only needed a little encouragement to get to 50. Her goal was 25 so she could get all the prizes accumulated for the kinders. The higher the grade, the more laps needed before prizes were accumulated. The kinders maxed out at 25, with colored hairspray. Funny she can’t run arOund the bases but can run around the playground. (her coach heard how many she ran and told her he was pretty impressed!)  Brandon ran with his friends and also ran solo because he said his friends were too slow or were stopping too long! Brandon ran 66 laps!! He ran out of space on his first card and needed a second card deemed the “Gold card”!  We bought the kids dinner there, and then they were sent to the multi to watch Big Hero 6 while we helped clean up. We’d never stayed that long, since we could never trust Peyton to be left alone. Brandon, too, for that matter. But they were so tired, they weren’t even going to mess around with one another. Plus, all their friends were there, and they were busy watching. At the end, while Dave and I were cleaning up, I saw one of the other kinder kids in a different class. She was walking with her dad, and I waved bye to her. She waved back, and said, “Bye!” Her dad looked at her and asked, “Who’s that?” (I could still hear him). She said, “That’s Peyton’s mom!” The dad asked again, “Who?” She repeated, “Peyton’s mom.” I had no Peyton around, so I probably threw him off a bit, and since she’s not even in Peyton’s class, he probably has no clue, just as Dave would. The kids wanted to go home with Dave, though he was parked farther away. I walked by myself to my car, when I saw another mom from PC was leaving with her son. I just learned that they were related today at recess. I knew the kid, though not by name until today, and I knew the mom, as I’d worked with her at food prep today, but I didn’t know he was her kid! So, I said, “Bye A!” He said, “Bye, Peyton’s mom!” I said bye to the mom, too, of course. Again, no Peyton around, yet I’m still “Peyton’s mom.” But it is weird, when one of the other moms calls me “Peyton’s mom”. I have to draw the line with just the kids calling me that 🙂

Peyton told me her feet started to hurt at 43 laps. She was very specific. While she was walking upstairs, she was walking like she’d been on a horse too long, and I suggested she was walking funny. She said, “Because my legs are so sore!”

Bad Day, Better Day

Today, I was walking with Julie at lunch, when I received a call from school. Again. This time, it was the principal. NOT the kind of call I’d like to get ever! We chatted about how Peyton was not doing well in class with the sub, and it was a sub that I knew! She and another student were causing trouble in class, and they had to be removed. The principal wanted to know if there were changes at home. I did admit that we had changed tactics since last week, and are working toward a more peaceful environment with clear expectations and consequences. Well, this is backfiring for Peyton. Brandon has done better with listening at home, but she prefers yelling! Go figure. I explained that I noticed a change in her behavior from the last week, and she has been testing her limits more, and receiving consequences as a result. She’s had a rough week, and has lost her iPad privileges in class and for baseball games. She says she doesn’t care, but I think she is deflecting. She’s trying reverse psychology with us. So, we’ll have to change it up. The principal said since lunchtime, she’d not been called, so things should have been okay. Then, on my way to pick the kids up, I got called again. She was in the office, where she’d stay for the remainder of the day. I went to get her, and we talked in front of her of what was expected. I brought back Lunch Bunch, which I’d talked directly to the principal beforehand, but I wanted Peyton to hear my threat. I was giving her a week to shape up, or be shipped out to LB. The principal told Peyton it was her choice. Play with her friends at lunch or go back to LB. She was agreeable otherwise. We walked to get Brandon, who was confused as to why we were at his door. I told him it’s because she was in the office. He said, “WHAT? What did she do? Are you serious!?” Like it was beyond him to understand that his sister got in trouble! As a result of being kicked out of class, Peyton didn’t get her report card. Brandon did, and he wanted to read it during piano. Normally Peyton goes first. It was hot, and the kids wanted the windows down. So, I rolled both down, and when we arrived at the teacher’s house, I rolled them up, and then turned around to see Peyton’s hand stuck in the window. I think she was so shocked, she didn’t scream or do anything. I rolled it quickly, and there was a distinct line across her knuckles/hand. So, I told her she could go second. She was stifling her tears, but it was pretty sad. I asked Ms. M for ice for Peyton’s hand, and she ended up reading for the first 30 minutes after going potty. She recovered and was able to play after Brandon was done. She kept her hand more flat, and Ms. M was trying to get her to tip touch. I’m not sure if it was because of her hand or not. She knew she wasn’t getting a snack after piano since she’d eaten some of her marshmallow bunny earlier in the week. Brandon had some yummy popcorn from Ashlyn’s, while Peyton ate some cheese and fruit. We headed to practice, and Peyton gave good effort for the first half of practice, throwing and catching with Maddie. But the heat caught up to most of the girls and they were pretty lethargic after the second half. Peyton only likes to hit. She doesn’t like being on the field. Finally, practice was over, and we headed home. Brandon was called across the field when Dave had arrived half-way through Peyton’s practice. I had given Peyton an opportunity to stay out later, if she’d behaved at school, but clearly, that didn’t happen, so we went straight home. While at practice, I received an email and phone call from the district that I owed money for lunch. I asked Peyton as we were walking out if she ate school lunch, and she said, “Yes. Today. Because Daddy didn’t give me enough lunch.” So, I forwarded him the note 🙂 She showered up, ate her vegan meal from my food, and then wrote an apology to her substitute. She drew a picture and wrote in her best handwriting to the mom who filled in for her class. She then sorted the laundry, cleaned up after herself, and was tucked in for bed. Brandon had some reading to do, and we talked about his report card, which did improve! His behavior is slowly catching up to his academic performance, which is good to see. Also, the teacher has informed us that he is an “excellent public speaker”! WOW!

Proud of his test scores, too! Above grade level and funny how they flipped from T1.

We’ll continue to get him to be less social in class and more focused. But I’ll take it. We’ll have to see how Peyton’s is tomorrow when we get it.

Trouble!

I had a service training at lunchtime and turned my ringer off. I was looking at my phone periodically to check the time, when I saw that I’d missed a call from our hometown. I didn’t want to be rude during the service training, but I did try to look up the phone number, and the pre-fix was from our school. I texted Dave to please call the school. There was no voicemail, which was killing me. I only had about 10 more minutes, but it seemed to drag. Finally, as I got out of class, Dave texted that Peyton was in the office with the vice principal, who was questioning some girls and Peyton. By this time, I called the office. Apparently, a girl had offered some food to Peyton and a couple of other girls, and they tried it. Peyton puked right away. The other girls did not, but they admitted what it was did not taste good. I offered that Peyton didn’t have any food allergies that I was aware, and I tried to ask what it was that she was eaten. Something about a golden wrapper, and “brown and mushy”. One of the girls had found it in the multi, and thought it belonged to someone else. There is a rule at school of no sharing food. Well, this definitely reinforced why there was such a rule. It’s almost a good thing that it was a violent reaction, so hopefully she learns to never take anything from anyone again. I mentioned to the school nurse that Peyton has a strong gag reflex, so it didn’t surprise me that she would puke. But she also isn’t an adventurous eater, so it was a surprise that she succumbed to peer pressure. They observed her in the office, and they eventually sent her back to class. Later, I’d emailed the teacher, and she was telling me how Peyton had some other poor choices during the day, and that was only one of them.

I got back to work after walking for the lunch hour. I thought it couldn’t get worse, but then I got an email from Brandon’s teacher. He apparently shared a urinal with another student, who’d told him to get away, and then splashed accidentally on his foot. GROSS! I had to think about how to deal with the two cases without yelling. Dave was telling me beforehand it was not possible, but I wanted to try. I’ve been keeping to the “don’t yell, just tell” since last week, and their behavior has definitely gotten better at home. But apparently, it’s backfiring at school. Preventions of premature ejaculation. 1.It’s not suitable to have cialis professional no prescription sexual life too early. Dave thinks we should just go back to yelling! I half-heartedly agree…but I didn’t want to break my streak. So, I sat Peyton down right after I signed her out. I asked her what happened today, and she played dumb. I told her I was called at school, and she looked shocked! I talked to her calmly outside and kept my cool. She looked like she was about to cry on several occasions, but she kept it together. I then went to get Brandon. My plan was to send Peyton to take a bath and brush her teeth while talking to him. Dave was home already when we got there. We both talked to Brandon while Peyton showered as instructed. He said it was an accident, and he couldn’t wait. I reminded him he needed to use the restroom way before he’s so desperate that he can’t hold it and wait his turn. There were two stalls also, but he said those are disgusting and dirty with “poop on the floor”. By this time, Dave left for the baseball clinic, while the two kids were eating. Brandon wasn’t going to go, as he’d been out of the house all week long, and there was practice tomorrow, too. At this time, I decided to share with him what had happened so he could learn from Peyton’s mistake. He was shocked that she’d done something and couldn’t believe she actually threw up. He looked truly concerned, and then I reminded him that it wasn’t a good idea to take food from others. I didn’t bother telling her what he’d done, as I didn’t want to give her ideas. I could see him eating something from someone else, but I would hope Peyton isn’t using a urinal! Ugh, that would make my year complete! So, we survived another round of parenting. I still had my talk with Brandon tonight, per his request. We talked about making good choices, and how he should use his big brotherhood for good use. He says people at school follow him around. I told him to use his leadership skills for “good, not evil”. He said he’s tired of people just following him around. But unfortunately, he’s following one of the other kids who gets in trouble! We’ll have to work on that. Time to exercise and work out my kid stress!

More Baseball

Brandon had a game tonight against the cross-town league. I picked the kids up early; Brandon had done his math homework yesterday in anticipation. He was reading, while Peyton and I practiced piano. Dave came home and took Brandon to warm up. Peyton showered and got ready to go. We took her dinner on the road, and she ate at the field. Then, she practiced her spelling words; I looked on my phone for a second grade basic list to practice along with other words from another list Brandon had from his first grade. I didn’t want them to be too easy, but not too hard either since I wanted to watch the game. Then, she was convinced to play with Katie, a kindergarten friend, and sister to Ryan on our team. Here are Brandon’s at-bats along with a nice play at first. He had two other plays just like this, and I finally had the wherewithal to record the last out of the inning.

Big Girls’ Softball Camp

Today, Peyton had a softball camp to attend with her league. All the girls in the league were invited to attend at our normal field and the local college softball was in attendance coaching the girls. Dave took Peyton in her full uniform, while I did homework and practiced piano with Brandon. I fed him dinner and he showered before we headed out. He brought his reading with him, while we waited for Peyton in the stands. She was with some of her teammates that showed up. They were rotating through different stations, much like the camp that Brandon attended last summer. She looked like she was having fun, and her attention span was dependent on how captivating the coaches/players were. We got there for the tail-end of batting, and we got to watch fielding and base-running. She was comfy out there, joking around with the players and her teammates.
Here’s her solo run to first:

Race. Dave didn’t think this would end well with her stiff competition.

One of the main coaches was taking a picture when her phone died. She looked over at Dave and asked, “Can you just text me?” So, Dave took a picture (not as good as my camera’s, IMHO) and got “her digits” as he said. Dave left with the kids, and I headed to the gym, since I was half-way there. Tomorrow it’s Brandon’s turn, and after dinner, I may have to bust out ipad time! We’ll see.
