Dave headed to Peyton’s classroom this afternoon to see her parade. I stayed at work, since I wanted to leave early to get the kids ready for trick or treating later tonight. He was complaining about the parents not listening, the chaos and the parade starting late, since he’d come there on time. We got home around the same time, when I had Brandon doing his 20 minutes of reading. We quickly changed the kids, then headed to get pizza before heading out. We were told about this section of street that is all festive and the majority of the houses are all decked out. We parked here and walked around, but found it was too crowded. One house was too festive, and Peyton was whining, “It’s scary! I don’t want to go up there.” We were log jammed, and the street was busy with cars, so after a few house of jostling, we decided to head home. We’d left our candy on the porch, but the light had burned out, so people weren’t coming up the steps to our candy basket. We quickly parked and headed out on foot. It was less congested in our area, and we went back to our same neighbors. We did a similar loop that we’ve done in the past. We’d practiced the “Trick or treat” and “Happy Halloween” and the most important, “Thank you.” This was our first year of two kids and no stroller. Peyton did fine walking around, and in her slip ons and not tennis shoes, since they matched with her outfit better. She did want to hold Brandon’s hand or at least make sure he was close by.  At one point, we went to a house that had a real candle in the jack-o-lantern, and we called out to tell Peyton to be careful, since her outer wear was loose and highly flammable.  Brandon whispered, “Stand behind me,” and she walked away from the pumpkin and stood to the other side of him.  Some houses she was too scared to go without Brandon.  We wanted to hear the kids’ “Thank yous” from the street, so they said it loudly enough for us to hear it from the sidewalk.
