Camp funnies

Brandon, Mckayla, Peyton and I were playing catch with the football, when Brandon was trying to coordinate taking turns. He told the group, “Okay, Peyton throw it to Mckayla, and then Mckayla, you throw it to Robyn. Okay?” I was laughing because he called me by my first name, but it did make sense, because if just said “Throw it to Mommy,” then she’d throw it to Michelle 😉
After I left the kids in the tent the first time, Brandon told Peyton, “You’re going to keep me company, okay?” But soon, Peyton went out to potty, and Brandon was alone. He called to me, “I feel all alone here. Can you come here?” I told him I was there, but he still wanted me to sit there until Peyton came back. Still a chicken.
In the morning, we saw a caterpillar on the top of the tent. Brandon is suddenly the grammar police. Mckayla was saying something about or referencing Peyton and mixed up her pronouns, and Brandon had to correct her. I just told Dave this, and Dave said, “Hey, he corrected me, too!” Not sure when he became the grammar police, maybe after he entered the first grade!! Glad he’s paying attention and listening. Maybe he’ll be an English teacher.

Camping!!

We started out with camping with half of the Kao’s and it grew to a camping party!  We added the Brown’s, then the other half of the Kao’s, Theresa and Martin, and then this week, Kathy’s family.  In total, we had 18 of us, and it was great.  We all started out about midday on Saturday.  The drive was a bit windy, so we had to take our time getting there.  Both kids took a needed nap in the car.  We were the first to arrive, then the Brown’s and Theresa and Martin came together, meeting up in the lodge.  The Kao’s then Kathy’s family followed.  Everyone got busy putting their stuff up, then Dave started the fire to get some food ready.  The kids wanted a snack, so Bonnie had some popcorn, veggies straws and pretzels.  All the kids were happy to sit and eat.  Each family brought chairs, and it seemed a meeting of the minds at times.  The kids all had fun with one another or another or another.  They all seemed to switch around with another, and I was trying to follow Peyton around, as Brandon was pretty content with Ian.  Peyton wanted to play with the older boys, then switched boys and played with Connor and the rocks.  he kids had a rock collection going in the shed and Connor among other kids was fascinated with it.  Had I not known the kids had put the rocks in there, I would have thought there was some ancient tribal thing or as Stuart and I thought, maybe Blair Witch.  We had a great dinner – with tons of food!  There were sausages, chicken skewers (which were a great hit), green beans, asparagus, tomatoes, grilled asparagus, and steak.  We had fruit, Hawaiian bread and buns for the dogs.  Peyton had a dog and some green beans, and within a few minutes, asked me for another hot dog.  I asked her where her first hot dog was, and she didn’t answer.  I thought it was on the ground, so  I looked, and it wasn’t there.  I then asked, “Did you eat it already?” She nodded, and I offered her a chicken skewer instead.  She agreed, and ate the whole thing, too.    It seemed to get dark quickly, and with darkness, came s’mores.  Brandon had eaten some gummies bears earlier and chose that as his dessert, while the rest of the kids ate s’mores.  We had to make all the s’mores first before distributing it to the kids to make it fair.  They were all eagerly awaiting their dessert. I told Peyton she didn’t have to eat it all, and she said, “Yes, I do.”  She worked on it for awhile, and at the rate that she was eating, she’d finish it up by Sunday.  Turns out, she just at about half of it, then said she was done.  I was proud that she didn’t stuff the whole thing in her mouth just to make a point.  We all had the kids say good night to each other then headed to brush their teeth and change their clothes.  Though we had Peyton in a diaper, I offered her another book if she kept her diaper dry.  She accepted the challenge.  At first, I thought I could just leave the kids in the tent, then Dave and I headed back to the campfire, but all we kept hearing was them fighting and tattling on each other.  I went over several times to shush them, and Peyton told me once, “I don’t like camping.”  I ignored her as she did not have a choice at that point in time, since we were there to stay overnight.  Finally, Dave went in to calm them down and wait with them to fall asleep, but we kept hearing talking.  Bonnie, Kathy, Michelle, Ted, Theresa and Martin were all out chatting after the kids went to sleep.  Ours were the last ones asleep!  Stuart stayed in with his boys, while Christian and Ian were playing chess inside with Kira sleeping.  Dave came back, and I thought that meant that they were asleep, but it turns out he wanted relief.  So I tagged him out, and the kids were both winding down.  I stroked Peyton’s forehead as her eyes were very tired, and doing so made her close them.  I think she was a bit frightened, so at times her eyes were WIDE open.  She told me again, “I don’t like camping.”  I didn’t want to talk about it, so again, I ignored her.  Brandon fell asleep within me being there 5 minutes.  After another 10 or so of patting Peyton and trying to get her to sleep, I started to make my escape.  She heard the zipper and looked at me.  I told her I’d be going back to the fire, and she needed to go to sleep. I told him to ask Daddy, and he said, “Daddy’s not here.”  What!  How’d I miss him getting out of the tent?  Dave heard Brandon, so he came back to get him.  He put his clothes back on and took him.  Peyton was awake, but she wanted to climb in my warn sleeping back.  Her nose was all red and cold and her feet were like ice blocks.  I could feel her feet through my two bottom layers!  After I warmed her up a bit, we got out, too.  We went to find Dave, then we headed to the potty.  She’d kept her diaper dry!  I had to go potty, even though she said she didn’t have to go.  I took her anyway, and even after I went, she said, “Wow, Mommy, that’s a lot of pee.”  I’d held it through the night, since I didn’t want to go out alone either.  Peyton still didn’t go, but I picked her up and held her up to go anyway.  She did, and a lot.  I just think she didn’t want to take her pants off and be cold.  We washed up, then headed back to camp.  Dave wanted to start cooking, but Theresa had put the food away in their car and they were the last ones up.  They also don’t have kids and probably aren’t used to waking up that early (it was about 730am, so actually, great for us!).  They couldn’t help but wake up since the kids were mostly up by then.  Peyton and Brandon each got a cup of hot cocoa since those supplies were out.  But soon enough, we had a feast round #2.  We had eggs, bacon, bread or croissant, and leftover steak and dogs.  There was so much food, we didn’t even get to the pancakes.  There were two things I’d seen/had for the first time – gigantic marshmallows – like twice or three times a normal one, and mint chocolate marshmallows.   The mint ones went in my mocha, and it was very subtle, but tasty.  After we cleaned up the tents and food prep stuff, the kids played some more, then it was time to head out.  We started our drive, and Peyton was asleep first. Brandon must have been feeling car sick, since he was getting snappy, and soon fell asleep.  Both kids slept while we unloaded part of the car, then Brandon got out, and we told him to take a bath.  He snapped again, “I just want to go to sleep!”  Can’t argue with that, so he did.  Crawled right into his bed.  Peyton I took out, and stripped off one layer, since she was like Pigpen on the peanuts.  She woke up but only briefly, before going right back to sleep.  Both kids were out for the next two hours, before waking up around the same time.  In that time, we showered, got our stuff put away and did laundry.  Very productive since they were sleeping.  I will be going out with Tracy tonight for dinner, while Dave is now out with the kids for dinner.  Here are the pictures we took:

Swimming

I didn’t have time to upload this from yesterday, but yesterday was diving board day.  Peyton’s class was a private lesson at first, because the other person was late.  She had fun being the only student, and Rob asked her if she wanted to go on the diving board.  She didn’t say anything, but eventually, I think she did tell him she wanted to.  They even swam over to the deep end, and she was backfloating/swimming in the 9 foot area!  Rob even lifts his hands up in the video to prove she is on her own.  She has this tendency to flip forward from her back to “recover” then ends up in trouble.  He’s trying to teach her how to kick out of it and swim to the side.  The other boy soon joined in the deep end, and the small kids got the diving board first.  With her first jump, Rob said, “Wow, so fearless.”  She enjoys dunking her head in the water to do her part to swim to the side.  The other boy was a bit skittish and had to have his dad throw him in, and it took a little while, so Peyton patiently waited:

After a few more dives, the big kids headed over.  Here’s one where he let her go under all the way before gathering her up. The other teacher offered to help the boy in front of Peyton to help him down into the water while Rob caught him.  Then, he asked Peyton if she needed help.  She didn’t answer him, but Rob answered for her, “She doesn’t need help.”  Here she is jumping in with the other instructor.  So that instructor jumped in to catch Peyton while Rob was swimming the other kid to the side.  Rob cautioned him, “Be careful, she might jump on top of you.”  We got a few with Brandon, too.  Brandon likes to jump to the side. One of his dives, he stays down there a long time.  The instructor waited him to break the surface.  It was like he was staying down there for a party!

Then Rob took Peyton and the other boy to practice some more things.  Peyton was impatient with the other boy and started doing her own thing.  It was making me laugh filming her since she was just floating like a bug on the surface of the water!  But she was pretty still and the current was taking her out to the deep end.  Rob was watching her, but working with the other boy.  I think she knew I was filming, but she didn’t care.  After we got home, the kids bathed, then we were headed out for our camping trip.  More to follow!

Where? Disappointed; Sneaking veggies; Dry diapers; Giants Fans

Today, we were talking to Peyton about camping. She said, “But whose house are we going to?” I didn’t know how to respond. I asked her to ask Dave. She must not remember last year going to the forest. Let’s hope she starts fresh and enjoys it as much as she enjoyed the backyard experience.

Yesterday, I asked Brandon we had to wait until Dave got home to see his rocks. I didn’t want him to separate them until he got home. He waited all afternoon, and as soon as Dave walked in the door, he thrust the rocks in Dave’s face. I told Brandon we had to wait to open them since he can’t bring them in the restaurant. He was so sad! He stopped talking to me, and just glared, trying to be serious. I asked him why he was so upset (knowing the answer), but then he said, “Because Daddy didn’t even smile!”

This morning, Dave made omelettes and I found some green beans we made the other day. I offered them up, and Peyton was excited to eat a handful. Then she asked for another handful. Dave told me to stop feeding her since he was making broccoli that he wanted to cook up. He put those on the table, then Peyton started reaching for that before finishing her green beans. I told her to finish the green beans first, since those were on her plate. She stuffed them in her mouth, then started leaning over to grab another one. I didn’t even see the first one disappear! She went to join Dave to watch golf, then disappeared again. It was too quiet, and Dave found Peyton at the table munching away on yet another stalk!

Peyton was offered one of her Stanley books if she kept her diaper dry. In a test that I think she is just lazy, but can actually hold her pee, she came in this morning and said she kept her diaper dry all night long. The next sentence was, “Can I have a Stanley book now?” Here’s her yesterday after I handed them over to her.

ME time

This morning, Dave didn’t tell me that he had a dental appointment today, but I knew something was up since he was lounging around i-padding this morning. Normally, he gets up and goes, but today, he was totally just hanging out. After awhile, he said he had a dental appointment at 8 am. Based on that, I offered that he take Brandon to school, while I shuttled Peyton off to school. I met up with Brandon at flag salute, then headed to the gym. I had 9 miles to run, so I broke it up and ran 4.5, then reset the treadmill, then ran another 4.5. After I was done, I went home to shower up, then headed off to return some PB that was recalled, then headed to the sporting good store to pick up a sleeve to run with for my phone. While there, I found some other stuff that I picked up. Then, I went home and resumed my duties by putting our clothes out and later downloaded some more songs in the ipod to help inspire me! I went to pick Brandon up from garden club, then as mentioned earlier, he read a bit, then we headed to pick up Peyton. I think we’re ready for tomorrow. It’s only one night, yet we have so much stuff packed!

Jedi mind tricks

Today, we went out to eat a our salad buffet place. The kids end up using their fingers until they are reminded. Today, Dave turned to Brandon and said, “Use the fork!” I added “Lucas” (Brandon’s middle name). More Reading

I picked Brandon up from garden club today, and we came home to start on his reading homework before getting Peyton, since it was still during her naptime. He was still in school mode, so he didn’t complain about doing the reading. He just received my book order today, too, so he was really excited to see what I’d gotten. I told him since he had all greens and one blue this week, he could pick one to read and take camping. He had a rocks and minerals book, Ninjago with a minifigure, and a non-fiction science vocab series. Surprisingly he picked the Rocks book since he thought that Ian would like it best! The rest are going on his goodie bag that he can choose when he does well in school. He decided to do his online reading program, as he had done last year. Last year he ended on J or K, but struggled. This year, he started on I. Dave and I were laughing that there was one book on I that he took many times reading over and over to get the quiz questions all right. I think there were even tears involved last year. He’d finally gotten through it, but it took almost 10 tries, if I recall. He had the book read to him, read the book, and then took the quiz. He got two out of 5 wrong the first time, then read it again, and took the quiz again. He got all of the answers right the second time. He proceeded to read two more books for a total of 30 minutes of reading before declaring he wanted to read his rock book. He’s been reading that for the last 10 minutes! We’ll be late to get Peyton, but I don’t want to stop him now, since he’s on a roll.

Hump Day

I was so tired yesterday, since Peyton had come into our room.  She wanted to riddle the rides, but I told her I was tired and didn’t want to play.  She took her book, and quietly said, “Okay, well, I’ll just read my book quietly by my own self.”  I let her sit in silence for 5 minutes, then started to feel badly.  I asked her, “Will you riddle the rides now?”  She said, “Okay?  You aren’t tired anymore?”  Today, I told her I was not so tired.  Though I was stifling a yawn when I said it.  She said, “Because I stayed in my own room all night long?”  She’d lost her radio, but was trying to earn it back by staying in her room all night long.  I thanked her staying in her room overnight.  (She earned her radio back, but lost it because she didn’t listen to Dave after the bath).  So we riddled the rides on the way over to school.  I went in to work, and was planning to run around the lake with Roxy for 3 miles as we had done last week.  It was just as warm as last week, and we finished in just over 30 minutes.  We walked back to work, and went back to our routines.  After school, each of us picked up our respective kid from school and met at our pizza place because we had a fundraiser for Brandon’s school.  They were giving 30% back to the school.  The froyo place was also giving 20% back.  We got the kids deal for each kid, and both got a slice, carrots, and dessert, which was a pack of teddy grahams.  There were a lot of families and kids there already, and a lot of kids running around outside.  There were a few girls there that said hi to Brandon.  He was very shy and just waved quickly.  Dave was The veterinarian may make use of some drugs to overcome this disorder. cialis consultation as introduced in the market first, won the trust and reliability on its quality and effectiveness background. He said, “Well, I want to go run around, too, but I should probably stay at the table.”  It’s funny that he verbalized exactly how he was feeling.  So, I split up the salad I’d gotten, then we waited for our slices to be warmed up.  Some of the pizzas were cooking from scratch, since it was so busy.   After she’d eaten dinner, Peyton chose her bears over froyo.  I made sure she knew what she was choosing and that she couldn’t turn back.   We headed over to the froyo place, and Dave and I shared one since we ended up picking the same flavors, and Brandon ate a kids’ size.  Peyton worked on her bears and all were happy.  We headed home, and Brandon did his reading with me, while Dave bathed Peyton.  Brandon wanted to read more, but I told him he had to do his math and his bath before 745pm (it was 722pm).  If he made it, he could read one more book.  He started arguing with me about it, and I told him he was wasting his time arguing.  He didn’t quite make it as he finished up  by 746pm, but he’d told me “I didn’t want to read anyway.”  I think that he just said it to make himself feel better.  Surprisingly, he took it like a man, and he didn’t argue about it.  He went to bed, and asked to be tucked in.  Dave came in to hug, floss, and fluoride him.  Lights out by 8pm.  A very efficient evening for us today.  I can lounge around since I’d already run earlier today.  We have a lot of TV to catch up on.
