Too scary; Songs

After Peyton’s game tonight, we drove to dinner passing the movie theater.  Brandon said, “Oh let’s go see Deadpool!”   No, he will not be seeing it. Any time soon. This morning, Brandon was singing, “Time after time.”  I didn’t know how he knew the song but he told me it was from daddy.  Daves been listening to a Voice past winner on youtube, and I’d forgotten the kids were there. He picked up the song pretty well and sang it nicely!

Long Days, Long Nights

Yesterday was a normal work day, then Peyton had practice at 4 pm as usual, while Brandon had a make up game from the rain. Dave dropped the kids off at cdc early, while I went in early thinking I had to conduct an interview. I was off by a couple of days, but it allowed me to get some work done. Dave went to get Peyton and take her to practice. Coach was running some scenarios, keeping the girls in one position. I’d gone home since it’s on the way to practice, just to change into more sporty clothes. Peyton was playing second base, and they were cycling through where the plays are. At one point, she fielded it, but her short stop didn’t run back to cover second. Peyton ran over, tagged second, and said, “I had to cover myself!” The other dad and I, watching from the sidelines, had a good laugh over the running commentary the girls have. They are very giggly compared to the boys. I even had to throw back a few balls, and I wanted to make sure I didn’t look silly. Luckily, I threw it back hard enough to get it the distance I needed back to the coach. Phew! After practice, I took Peyton back home. I’d gotten an email back from my PTA chair telling me about the budget meeting for next year, back at school. I picked up my folder and had Peyton change out of shorts back into pants to head over to Brandon’s game, already in progress. They started at 530 pm, and Peyton’s practice ended at the same time. We got to the park, and I asked Peyton to look at the score. She said, “O-3.” I asked if visitor or home. She said, “Visitor!” I told her that was our team! I couldn’t believe they were leading! This was a team mostly of kids from Brandon’s school. This was the first time we’d seen them this year since there had been so many rain outs early on in the season when all the intraleague games were scheduled. Our team was up by the time we got situated. It was already the top of the third inning. When Brandon got up to bat, the team was all shouting to back up. I had set up Peyton with dinner I’d gotten at the store earlier in the day, during lunch. I’d kept it cold in our mini fridge. I’d gotten a lavosh wrap for her and a kale salad for me. While I was eating mine, she told me, “You’re going to save me half, right?” Uh, well, I hadn’t planned on it, but I did help her eat her wrap and then gave her some of my salad. She kept busy with homework while I got to watch the game. It was cold, so I’m glad I’d gotten her pants and had grabbed the UCLA blanket from Michelle. We got tagged up on a few stolen base attempts, but there was one fantastic double play at third. The thirdbaseman nabbed a line drive, and there was a runner going without tagging up. The thirdbaseman instinctively stepped down on the bag for the second out! It wasn’t enough though, as the other team fired off runs against our pitchers. We lost by 3 runs. Brandon said he’d hear about it later at school, but he didn’t even leave the parking lot before getting the stink eye from the set of twins, only one of which played. He said something not nice across the parking lot, but his mom quickly corrected it. I said goodnight to both kids and headed off to school. Brandon took it well, saying not much, other than bye. I later found out why there was such an uproar from the other team when Brandon got up. We missed Brandon’s at-bat where he drove the ball to the outfield fence! The other coach told Dave if it’d been at the other, smaller field, it would have been a home run. Dave missed it, too, as he was in the dug out talking to kids. He heard the crack of the bat and turned around to look where it went. Brandon over ran second base, and had taken a few steps toward third before turning back to tag it. He’d been called out before for a similar play, so at least he’s learning from mistakes.
I had a two hour budget meeting to sit through so I could get my feet wet for next year, along with the principal, VP of finance, and PTA president. I got home and it was after 9pm. I’d requested Peyton practice piano, and by the looks of the book splatter, it looked like she did.

This morning, I got up and ready for work at my usual time. I clocked in by 6 am and did chart review until 8 am. I drove back to school to chaperone the field trip at In and Out. I made it back to school by 830 am, and even got a message to Brandon to get to CDC after band. I took three kids to the restaurant, and we were given a tour of the place. After the short tour, the kids all got to cut one potato each through the grinder. It was great fun watching them. Then, they were all given coloring books and crayons and sat among the chairs in the restaurant, which wasn’t yet open. They were all well-behaved! The staff proceeded to take the permission slips and fill orders for the teacher and drivers, too! Granted, it was only 945 am, but being around all the food made me hungry! We were served by 10 am, as regular customers were coming in by then. Strange to have a burger at 10 am willingly, but there were plenty of people coming in. We found out that it is a community event that the store holds and it is free of charge! They made “real” burgers for the adults, while the kids got dumbed down burgers, no veggies. I’ve seen Peyton eat a real burger, but not all kids may, so they didn’t bother. It was much faster. Each kid got a tray with either a cheese or hamburger or grilled cheese, and a tray of the fries they all cut (their hands were all washed! We made sure of it!) Then we said thank you to the manager and headed back to school. I was done with kids by 11 am, but it took me another 20-25 minutes to come back to work because of parking! I got back, and I was supposed to go back to Michelle’s farewell at work, but I just couldn’t make it. Jennifer had a project for me that she wanted me to get done, as well as the labs I had going on, so I decided to stay. Good thing I’d bought food in the same trip I’d gotten dinner yesterday. It was already in the refrigerator for today. I stayed at work until 430 pm, before going to get both kids. Brandon had safely arrived at cdc from band having gotten the message from the office. The CDC director told me both kids did a good job. Peyton came in right away and was doing her homework, and Brandon made it safely in from band as he was told, since I normally pick him up straight from band. I was a bit nervous all day, wondering if he’d get the message to go there, with as minimal disruption as possible. He told me that the band teacher complimented him on learning one of the songs, muttering, “Because no one else bothered to learn it.” He has his solo audition coming up on Thursday. Hopefully he “gets” it. I quickly got Peyton home and showered her up before heading out for her girl scouts meeting. She ate dinner on the way there ( a salad). She was leading the opening activity with another girl. They were going to make origami fortune tellers. We’d found out about it last minute, since the meeting she was going to open was cancelled. Luckily, she knew how to make them and helped guide the other girls through it. The meeting was well-run, on time, and over by 7pm. She read on the way back, almost making her 20 minute minimum. Dave and Brandon had gone in search of food trucks, so they had BBQ back. Peyton eyed the meat, and she asked Dave for some. She finished eating, and she went to play piano. I could tell she’d practiced yesterday, as she got through her tasks quickly. The song that she had played on Sunday was even more smooth today. She’ll have one more day to refine it, but I can see the progress. She really made use of all her time today! After I sat with her, I headed to the gym before they closed. I was able to get almost an hour of machines and 2 miles of running before I left. I have to get a few more miles in before the big run on Mom’s day. Tomorrow we have a repeat match against yesterday’s team. It’s like the playoffs! We’ll have one more, so hopefully we don’t get swept. đŸ™‚

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

There was a raffle at Peyton’s all skills game, and each purchase at the snack shack translated to a free raffle ticket. Dave also bought a ticket as well. We stuck around for the announcements after the game, and one of the player’s grandfathers gave Brandon his tickets. His granddaughter was playing so he wanted Brandon to have them and go collect any prizes he’d earned. When the winners were announced, they called “Bob Mock.” My dad had gotten a ticket from his snack, so I thought he’d won! But it turns out he got a snack but no ticket, but K’s grandfather’s name is Bob! So, Brandon went to go collect the prize. But soon after, Dave’s name was called, too! So, Brandon returned K’s grandpa’s winning gift certificate to him, and he went to get Dave’s.

At our dinner that evening, anyone who turned in their end of event report on time was entered into a raffle. One winner was drawn by a random guest that was there, and I saw it before she announced it, “David T.” He was sitting at the boys’ table, and he was given $25 to amazon. The baseball one was to Sports Basement. Way to go!

Long Week

It was a long week back from break, as we hit the ground running. Monday was Peyton’s usual practice for softball, and they were determining the representatives for the skills competition. There are four skills – running bases the quickest, furthest ball hit off a tee, furthest ball thrown, and throwing accuracy. Peyton made three of four last year for her team; all but base-running. Then, she got beat the other girls from other teams in accuracy and batting. But this year, she’s moved up a level, and I had to preface this with her. I asked her, “You know it’s okay if you don’t place in an event.” She said, “NO.” I told her, well, the girls you are playing with are older and one had two trophies of her own from last year, in the same division. So, I asked her again, and this time, her “No” was followed by a smile. I learned she had no placed, but fortunately, she was selected for the all star/skills team. This game would take place after the skills competition. She would be one of four on her team to play with four from each of the other 5 teams. More on that later.
I took Brandon to piano while they were doing that. Then, I was off to a meeting with our father daughter team to do some decorations for the party on Friday. We got a lot done, but I was exhausted after. On Tuesday, Brandon had band as usual, and then Peyton had her game that was a reschedule from a rain out. Then I was off to the parent ed meeting. Wednesday was practice for Brandon, while I had Peyton do her homework and help me make a homemade pizza, then I went off to a meeting with the mom I’ll be replacing for the PTA next year. I got to her house at 8 pm, and I wasn’t home until 1130 pm! I had no idea it was that late! Thursday was my Friday, and we had a game for Brandon, a make-up, too. I had piano for Peyton and band for Brandon as usual, then Dave came to take Brandon for the game. Peyton and I made another pizza, and we took that for the game. They were short on help, so I helped with the scoreboard. Peyton was happy to help me, but she had to go potty at some point. I had to have her wait until the change in innings, then I ran her to the nasty park bathroom to go potty. The one women’s stall was occupied, and she started doing a dance. I ushered her into the men’s side, and I had her go quickly. We went back and resumed our duties; fortunately, the game hadn’t yet resumed. I ran out of memory on my phone so I wasn’t able to get video. I had to concentrate anyway, so there was no time. After the game, I took Brandon home to feed him, while Peyton got ready for bed. Dave went out for a coach’s meeting, and he didn’t get back until I’d gone to sleep. I had to prep for father daughter on Friday, so I wanted to get a good night’s sleep. We used pizza sauce on the dough the second time, versus our “artisanal” pizza that did not have sauce the first night. Brandon complained it was too soggy. I think it was also because we were under time constraints when cooking, so we didn’t let it crisp up all the way even though we used the pizza stone both nights. Peyton was the one who had applied sauce, and I’d suggested “liberally”. She heard Brandon’s complaints and got really sad, hanging her head, and slumping down, muttering, “Sorry.” I told her it wasn’t her fault, and that Brandon should be happy to eat whatever food he was given for dinner, especially since he was not the one who had to make it.
Friday, I got the kids off to school, while Dave went early in to work. I got to decorating, then I got Peyton at 1245 pm. We worked some more while the younger kids had tablets to keep them occupied. They all behaved very well, and when the big kids came in at 230 pm, I thought we’d have more trouble. Surprisingly, they were all well-behaved! We had about 10 kids there, and they all got along well. Soon, two dads came in to help with the heavy-hanging, then my mom came in to help get Brandon for me. She really didn’t want Peyton, who was happy hanging out with her friends and “baby-sitting” the little guy that was there. I kept her until 430pm when we left to get ready for the party. Dave had come home shortly after, and he took Peyton to dinner. I got showered and dressed and ready to go myself. It was a great party, and the girls all had lots of fun. Peyton didn’t dance, but she got to hang out with her friends, take pictures and enjoy herself. Dave hung in there. He had some daddy friends, too, so that was nice. Clean up took just under an hour, and we were all back at home by 9 pm. My mom had date night with Brandon, and they were up watching the baseball game when we got home.

Saturday was a big day. In the morning, we had Peyton’s regular game at 830 am. My mom came along. Peyton was complaining about being tired, so I’d told her coach I’d get her to take a nap in between the all skills game and this one. We came home after the game, and I sent Peyton to “lay down” (not nap). I had her take her baseball pants off, since she was dirty in her lower half. My mom waited for my dad to come, and I told her that I’d let Peyton sleep for as long as needed, but she and my dad could go right away to Brandon’s game. My dad came in and took my mom, while Peyton and I were napping. After a few minutes of rolling around, she did successfully fall asleep and woke up on her own terms. Much better situation! We headed to Brandon’s game, and the team was doing well. I kept an eye out on the time, as we had to get back to the field for Peyton. We left my parents there with Dave and Brandon, then we headed to Peyton’s field. The skills competition was just under way, so we cheered for her teammates. K did a great job, and I think she got the two trophies in the two competitions she competed this year. The other two teammates did well, but it wasn’t enough for the trophy. Then, it was time for the game. Before the game started, Brandon, Dave and my parents had made it. They called out the teams and announced their names. I was worried Peyton would play against Elise again, but it turned out, they were teammates, and E’s dad was the coach, along with Peyton’s! I prepped Peyton that she would have to introduce herself to her new teammates, and she whined a bit about doing so. I told her “You know your name! Just say it!” She was batting in the middle of the order, and she only got her ups one time. She played the field for two innings, right field and second base. She was definitely in a different league with the best in the league, but I’m happy that she had the experience and opportunity to play. The coach had to qualify that the girls selected were based on attendance, attitude and performance. We came back home and the kids showered up. My mom was going to stay to watch the kids while Dave and I attended the walk a thon wrap up party. We had a nice potluck style dinner, with Dave bringing beer. We didn’t stay out too late, as we were both exhausted from a long week.

My mom left early this morning, and after piano practice, we had a nice trip to the farmer’s market, breakfast out and Costco before returning home. Both kids got baseball practice in, one at a time with Dave, and then we had an easy dinner in. We’re all ready for the next week! This school year is flying by!

Game Time

Today, Peyton had a game in the afternoon. She read for 40 minutes, making up time from yesterday. We sat in the garden at school and read while Brandon had band. We came home, and she changed on her own to her uniform. She told me “i’m not done yet, can you put the ribbon in my hair?” I love that she’s a girlie tomboy. We had to go back to school to get Brandon’s band music, then headed to the game with the big car, since Dave was running late. I got her there as the head coach arrived. Brandon finished up homework while Peyton warmed up. She was exciting as she saw the line up – she’d be pitching in the third inning! She played second to start the game. She and the short stop made an out at second base. They cooperated perfectly, as neither could have made the out alone.
Oh, and she did wear her mask willingly this game. She played left field in the second inning, and the pitched.

She got up to bat only twice as she was in the middle of the line up. Here’s her first at-bat. They are trying to get the girls to swing off the girl pitchers and NOT wait for the coaches to come in. They were encouraging them, even if it was a ball. Peyton got two strikes on her, looking, and they kept telling her to just swing. She did get on, but barely!

The second at-bat in the third inning, she did make contact but it was a close one

Dave told coach if the pitcher had caught the ball, Peyton would have swallowed her bat for the rest of the season (meaning she’d just look at every pitch until the coach came in). Luckily, it was not, as there were 2 outs already. That would have been the final out if it was caught. After the game, I headed to school for a PTA education meeting on children and technology. Dave took the kids home for the rest of their evening.

All Star

I got an email today that Peyton’s coach had selected her for the all star team. It’s a new thing for us this year, since she is playing at a higher level than last year. She is one of four that was selected from her team, and she will be playing on Saturday. Today’s practice was to determine those members of the team that would represent at the skills challenge on Saturday. I reminded Peyton she was competing against girls who were 1-2 years older than her and to not expect anything. She qualified for 3 out of 4 skills last year, so I wanted to lower the bar a bit for her as her team is pretty competitive. She looked like she understood, but until it happened, I wasn’t sure how it would go down. Dave came home to wait for our dryer, and the timing worked out perfectly. It arrived and was set up before 330 pm. I took Brandon to piano, and when we got home, I asked how she did. She said she didn’t know. I didn’t talk to her about the all star status, as Dave wanted to keep it low key especially before practice. I’d talked to them on speakerphone earlier, so I left it there with Dave telling me to not talk about it. Dave said he didn’t think she qualified, and named the girls that would represent. One of the girls who is representing in the base-running skill isn’t playing on the all star team, so we will get even more representation by different girls on the team, which is nice! Looking forward to seeing her out there representing the Rockets!

Tolerance

Earlier in the week, Brandon’s class went to an assembly on Autism. This is autism awareness month, and Brandon came away a “changed man”. There is a boy with autism in his class. I’m not sure what functional capacity he is, but I am able to have a conversation with us, though he does some strange things in class which can often be disruptive. Brandon told me he now sits across from him and helps him out with organizational stuff (which is hard to believe since he can’t keep his own stuff straight). Great that the school is taking part in making all the kids aware of other kids around them, and how differences can be celebrated.

Spring Break

We started off with a rain out of Peyton’s game on Saturday last week. We headed out after her game, but we had to pack up first, so it took awhile. We stopped a few times, and we ended up at DTF, but had to wait 1.5 hours. We walked around GLendale, waiting for our table to “call” us. Once we were seated, Dave went nuts with the ordering. Brandon ate 18 XLB, but we ran out. This was also after eating veggies, noodles and a pre-snack of a croissant while we were walking around. I had to tap out, and Peyton declared “I quit” half way through. We headed the rest of the way back to Dave’s parents’ house for bedtime.
We headed to the park in the morning, and Peyton took it easy. She didn’t go on anything new, staying safe with the rides she knows. She was excited to go on Hyperspace Mountain again, and enjoying the Food and Wine festival activities. We bought an Annual Pass food pass, meaning we had a discount on several food items. It was only when we saw the Kao’s the next day that she got a bit more daring. This day, she went on Splash with Mckayla, riding in the back together. Only 7 are allowed in a log, so we split up, with Peyton going with the Kao’s and Brandon going with us. Later, Brandon took Marcus’ place on Indy, since Marcus was too short. Brandon admitted he was a bit nervous, but he rode the ride in any case. He even thanked them on his own for taking him. I had Marcus and Peyton, while Dave was grabbing a fast pass for us. We waited in line for Mickey’s magical map, and even got first row seats for the three younger kids, then eventually, just the girls, but after a few minutes, the show was called off for some reason, after the first or second number. It interrupted naptime for the adults! We headed into toon town and got on Roger Rabbit. Brandon’s adult of choice was Uncle Ted! The girls got to ride together, while Dave and I had the other half of Ted and Brandon’s cab. We also did a pirates ride all together, and I snuck in a nap on this ride. We headed outside the park for dinner that we’d placed reservations earlier in the day. After eating our fill, the girls wanted to ride two Fantasyland rides, while Dave, Michelle and the boys went to the submarines. We then all met up for the parade and ended our evening with fireworks.

We had a late night back at home, and we took it easy on Tuesday. We met up with Mike and Yonhee before they headed out to their European babymoon. They saw the magic of Brandon’s eating ability, with Brandon and Mike as the last men standing eating after we were all done. We ate dinner at home with Dave’s parents that night, and turned in early. We headed back to the park for Wednesday. Peyton continued on her daring streak, riding Splash two more times, and then she agreed to the Matterhorn. She wasn’t happy about it at first, but after she rode on it, it was her new favorite ride! We went again! This time, with smiles, and the front seat! Dave sat out, as it was throwing him around too much. Wednesday, we headed out early to watch the basketball games. We went to a Mexican place and sat where we could see the games – Kobe’s last, and the Warriors’ quest for 73 wins in one season. We stayed to eat up until half-time then we headed home to have the kids shower up while we watched the remainder of the game. It ended up being the Lakers game, since the Warriors game was pretty much over.
Thursday was our last day of the park. We rode on the fire truck to reminisce, as the driver was there 10 years ago when we first brought Brandon. He was old back then, so you can just imagine. We were so happy to see him again, as we’d seen him periodically over the years. In hindsight, we wished we’d had a picture of him with Brandon when he was itty bitty. He had a love of fire trucks, so we made it a point to ride it, even with the stroller, all folded up. Walt himself used to drive that very car up and down Main Street. Peyton enjoyed Splash and Hyperspace mountain on that day. We also headed back to see the same animator at the Off the Page store, while the boys rode Tower of Terror, which Peyton still won’t go on willingly. We ended the evening with a quick line for TSM and our hyperspace mountain fast passes that we’d waited for after riding it earlier in the day.

Friday, Dave bought tickets for us to go to the SF vs LAD game. We went shopping for LAD gear for the game for the kids, and i ended up getting Warriors stuff. We had dim sum with Dave’s parents, then headed to beat traffic. The game was not until 7 pm, but we were on the road by 1pm. All the passengers took a nap, while Dave got us to Griffin Observatory. We walked from our parking spot to the building, which had been recently renovated. We walked around for quite awhile and saw other fans, both SF and LA, doing the same. We then headed to the stadium, and we were the first in line at the pre-paid parking lot. One of the security men must have heard us yelling at the kids who were restless, and asked us to jump the line. We zipped up just a few minutes ahead of them opening the gates. We then headed to our club level security gates and waited our turn there, too. This time, the time was firm. We wanted to make sure we got the free giveaway Jackie Robinson jerseys, as it was his day, April 15th. All the players wear the same number, #42. I was worried the kids wouldn’t hang in there, since we’d been out all day long. Brandon was the one who wasn’t interested in taking pictures and didn’t want to take the walking tour all throughout the stadium. Peyton was enjoyed herself thoroughly, stopping to take pictures of her beloved Kershaw memorabilia throughout the stadium. We had great seats, and once the game started, Peyton was into it, cheering for her players. The Giants weren’t doing well, so I had tuned out for awhile, but the kids got up during the seventh inning stretch to walk around. They lasted through the whole game and then we went down ON to the field for fire works. They weren’t as impressive as the Disney ones we’d seen, but they were super close. Dave wanted to beat the traffic out, so we left in the middle of the fireworks and caught the finale as we reached the car. We got out of there quickly, and we were on our way home.

Saturday, we headed out after a quick breakfast at home. We packed our stuff up, and we headed out, but not before making a stop near Chinatown to get Phillipe’s french dip sandwiches. Dave’s mom wondered why he didn’t eat much breakfast. It was because of this! We walked around Union Station and my old residency site, which has cleaned up a bit. It is still “urban”, but maybe a little less scary. We then went to Porto’s to get some more food for the road. After that, we settled in for the longer haul, not stopping until Harris Ranch. Then, Peyton had an emergency pit stop at Casa De Fruta, not being able to hold her bladder until the outlets as Dave had hoped. We also stopped at the outlets, then finally made it to a poke stop to get food for home. We got our stuff home and unpacked. We had to order a dryer as our current one broke, and then we will finish up the rest of the laundry. Today was a typical Sunday; practice for Brandon and groceries for Peyton and me. I dropped her off at practice, and then took Brandon back with me. All ready to start the new week!

Baseball Week

After a week full of drama performances, this week was all about baseball. Peyton had her usual practice on Monday, while I had Brandon at piano. Then, it was Peyton’s make up game on Tuesday. She got to pitch the first inning.

Brandon’s game was on Wednesday, and he was a middle reliever, pitching to his former teammates from last fall. They were the visiting team, and Brandon was up at some point (I have a harder time watching, since his games are longer and I have to worry about Peyton).

Here he is with two outs. I was showing Dave because the two runners didn’t move with the pop up. “Two outs, you run on anything!” didn’t sink in here. Both players froze, otherwise, Brandon could have had a (lucky, as he should have been out) 2 RBI’s.

Here’s his pitching:

last at-bat. Not sure now how we beat the throw. I think it was an overthrow, as he got an extra base.

That was awkward. Especially when he struck out one of his former teammates, who was known to swing a lots of pitches. Lucky, we were on the opposite end of that this year. But we still lost by one run in a hard-fought game, 10-9. Thursday, Brandon had practice, but I pulled him from it to do “homework” as he had not been fulfilling his school responsibilities. Dave was still out of the house though. Finally, the week wrapped up with Peyton’s make up game. We were playing a friend of a friend in E. She and M have known each other since pre-school and Peyton and E have been to mutual birthday parties. I’ve talked to her mom more, so at first, I couldn’t figure out if that was E out on the field, along with her dad, head coach. For some reason, I thought they were a light blue team. But when I heard it was “E” that the team was cheering for, and then later saw her mom, it was confirmed. Peyton’s team was short on players. They had 7, meaning only one outfielder. The other team was in the same predicament, so any ball outside of the infield was at least a double. The rain had been threatening all day, and it was starting to sprinkle just a bit off and on during the game.

Since we were home team, we were in the field first. Peyton played short stop and got a few balls hit to her. Her biggest accomplishment though was calling out the plays. She’s been reserved in doing so, but today, with a bit of coaching, she called it out loud and clear!

First at-bat (she batted 7th today).

The second inning, she played first base, and she missed one throw for the out, but she picked up the second one! It was like a redemption catch, and I thought it looked like she picked up her foot from the bag, but the ump called the batter out.

Second at-bat.
She got it to the outfield, but what wasn’t seen was her falling down on first base. Oops. To her credit, it was slippery.

The final inning, Peyton played third base. She wasn’t wearing her fielding mask, as Dave had dismissed having her wear it that inning. She’d worn it for short stop and first base. But we think it was E who got up, and she blasted one of her dad right at Peyton. Peyton stopped the ball but it flipped up off her glove and hit her. It knocked her visor off, and she came up holding her face. The coaches ran over to ask her how she was, but then the waterworks came! She walked off the field, while Dave grabbed an ice pack. I didn’t see anything red, and in fact, I’d been texting Michelle b/c E was up and her dad was pitching. Soon, the girl who had gone to the bathroom returned and took over for Peyton and made the out at third as it was hit right to her. Now it was time to bat. Peyton’s forehead was not even red! i asked her if the ball hit her directly, or if it went off her glove. She said “off my glove”. At least the glove took the brunt of it. I think she was more surprised by anything and all the teammates coming up to her to ask if she was okay. They were all really sweet. So Peyton had her batting helmet on, with the ice pack hanging out, laughing because we were joking with her about that combination and how silly she looked.
E ended up pitching the last innning.
Peyton was fully back in the game, no ice pack needed.

One of Peyton’s teammates broke her arm on the monkey bars just yesterday. She still showed up to be with her teammates. Her arm was in a sling. Dave had her keep the line up and sit on the bench. I was talking to her dad for the first time today. We were talking about both of our 10 year old boys and other sports they play. He mentioned the league that F, G, and H play in, and I told him I’d heard about it. He asked if we needed an “in” to play. I’d told him that we had friends who were going to get us in, and he told us to sign Brandon up, too! Such a small world!

We may not get to play tomorrow morning, as it’s raining now.
We’ll have to wait over a week until our next baseball/softball outing
