Solo on Halloween

My coworker and I had plans to coordinate outfits for Halloween. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be dressing in a costume, but every year at one work site, there is a costume party and potluck. She had a renaissance theme with her husband, and I wanted to fit with Peyton’s Jasmine costume and my coworker’s, so I went with a gypsy outfit. I pieced it together with the belly dancer outfit my mom had gotten Peyton in Turkey last year. And I brought Brandon’s ukelele that he’d gotten from my cousins for Christmas last year when we saw them in Hawaii at Christmas time. I was thinking that I’d borrowed from both kids for this costume! Mid-morning, my coworker called in for jury duty. She’d been on call, but today, she had to go in!! She wasn’t expecting to at all, but you never know with these things!! So, I half-considered NOT going at all, though I’d brought a big pumpkin pie to share with the group, and had not brought a lunch. I considered going out for lunch, but then I changed into the costume for a once-over by Paula before she left, and then chatted with Bonnie who gave me encouragement. I feel like I’ve reverted to a 3-year old Peyton. I wanted to show up early, so that I could see people coming in, just like the kids when I drop them off at school. One of the louder docs commented that he liked my outfit, and started talking to me about the pieces. I was mortified, but did talk. I opened up when talking about what the kids were wearing, and forgot that I was in costume, but still, I just wanted to eat and run. But I stayed. And chatted. And started to relax a bit seeing others in costume. Luckily, the next time I work at this site will not be until 2016. Since we had leap year this year, I’ve had back to back Halloweens at this site, and I’ve done my part. I’ll have Bonnie take a picture later, so I can post it, since I’m alone here, and won’t be able to take a full body shot until she gets here đŸ™‚
