Day of Eating Out

This morning, since Dave needed to take the train, we all dropped Peyton off at school, then dropped Brandon off at camp. We stayed a little bit just to hear the intro in the batting cages, then we took off. Dave asked me if I wanted breakfast first. A date! He was upset that I never go out to lunch with him, since he knew of my lunch date today. So, we had a kid-free breakfast at a restaurant close to the baseball stadium and close to the train. After I dropped Dave off, I headed back to the dirt field by the stadium, changed shoes (I was already in running gear), and I headed off to the track. The track looked like it was being used by one of the camps, so I headed off to ran aimlessly. I made a loop around the various fields, and ended up passing the rugby field, where the boys were practicing. I tried to find Brandon, but he was wearing his white shirt, and it was hard for me to find him. I knew he was wearing his grey pants, and since he’s a lefty, it’s also a little easier to find him. I finished up my 5K and did a little more running around trying to find him. I finally went back to the stadium, and found him doing backhanded fielding drills. I was texting Dave what he was doing, and Dave was worried he would try that stuff during his tournament. He made eye contact with me, but didn’t acknowledge me until Nathan waved at me. Then Brandon gave a short wave. The coaches were calling out for the kids to practice first base or eat snack inside. Of course, Brandon was in it for the snack, but I nagged him to go out there to practice, since he often plays first base. He got annoyed with me, gave me a look, and then ignored me, only to finally agree and sulk over to the coaches. I watched him for about 15 minutes, and in that time, Nathan went to go get their lunches.  He handed me Brandon’s lunch, so I waited for him to be done with the drill before handing him his lunch and saying goodbye.  He was no longer mad at me by that time, though he did get hit in the back with a ball that someone else had miss-fielded, as Brandon was going back in his line.  I headed home to quickly shower up, then I got to the food court just in time.  I was early, so I headed to get some hot, roasted sweet potatoes.  Later, I met Anthony, and told him about the sweet potatoes.  He wanted to check it out, but the guy told us to come back in 10 minutes.  We decided to eat lunch first, then go get them.  Alexa was already inside by this time, so we all went our separate ways to eat.  I was still full from brunch, and the thought of hot, heavy Korean food was too much. I opted for a shaved ice with fruit.  I got the “wheat” one, and it was perfect.  I had red bean, so I had a little protein to go along with my dessert.  The other two had Korean food, and we chatted and caught up.  After lunch, we returned to the potatoes, and then talked a little more in the parking lot before Anthony had to return to work.  Alexa and I finished up, then I had to go pick Peyton up.  I got to school right at 3 pm, then I picked her up and headed up to get Brandon.  In this time, Lincecum pitched a no-hitter, and I was suspecting that the boys would be watching the game. Peyton looked for Brandon, and I lied and told her I didn’t know where he was.  I wanted him to just hang out with the guys and not be tormented by his little sister, but she has a honing beacon on him!  She spotted him right away, and she went down to his side.  She couldn’t get her body in there, so she stuck her hand out for seeds.  He gave some to her but shooed her away.  She listened, and made her way to the end of the row, to spit her shells out, too, but then she promptly returned for more.  He was giving me an annoyed look (I was up a level looking down on them).  I told him to give her three more, and then I asked her to come up with me.  I told her if she wanted her own seeds, that she needed to do camp and play baseball, too.  Some time during the watching of the game, he ran up to me and told me, “Mommy, did you know that Lincecum pitched a no hitter?”  I told him I knew, and he said, “Yea, we were all watching it, and cheering for the last out!”  After the scrimmage was over, we left.  I headed down to our meeting place with Dave, but we still had an hour to kill.  I bought a baby gift, then walked over to look at pool toys.  We found some cheap toys that I hope they can dive for the next time we go.  Then, we headed over to our meeting restaurant, but it was too early to eat (445 pm).  We hung out outside the dog park, and the kids got to watch the dogs run around.  I was reminding Brandon about the backhanded fielding I’d observed today.  I told him not to get cute during the games this weekend.  He said, “You saw that?”  He’d told me about being hit in the back with the ball, but that he was okay.  He also told me he lost their scrimmage game, so he’s 1-1-1.  Finally, I texted Dave to ask when he was going to be back in the area.  He told me he was back already!  We found each other in the parking lot.  We went inside the restaurant and got the kids ordered as well as appetizers from the happy hour menu.  I texted Tracy to let her know I was in the area, and to come inside PC when she arrived.  Even though we weren’t eating there, it was a way for her to say hi to the kids, and then we headed over to our own restaurant, PM.  We had a seat at the communal table to enjoy happy hour apps ourselves.  We had a fairly good sampling of food – flatbread, ribs, smoked salmon lettuce cups, and split a burger with sweet potato fries.  After we’d finished that, then we ordered and split a huge piece of chocolate cake.  I overheard the guy across from us tell his date that there was “no way” that “those two girls” would finish that piece of cake.  Little did  he know…good thing he left before we were done.  I left just a few bites, but only because I didn’t want to say I actually could finish it (but I probably could’ve).  It was a really big piece of cake, that I had un-done my hard work earlier in the day.  I will have to work hard again tomorrow!  We wrapped up around 930 pm, then we headed out in our separate directions.  My day of eating out has come to a close.  I’m looking forward to a day of watching Brandon play some baseball, but I’ll be putting in some work before that…I’ll have to be ready for the sun!
