20 questions for the kids

I found this on Pinterest and I think I’m going to start this year going forward since both kids are mostly verbal. Hopefully they can answer all my questions 🙂  Will reveal the answers later this week.

Back to the gym

Tonight marks my return to the gym.  Maybe it had something to do with the talk we had today at lunch given by our weight management doc.  Maybe it had something to do with me not being able to run the full two miles to the store last weekend.  Maybe it had something to do with having too many desserts since last month.  Whatever the case may be, it felt great to get back!  I did 5K just like old times.  I need to hurry up and sign up for another race to keep myself motivated.  Dave is influencing me to the dark side with the dessert that is left over from the weekend.  He’s trying to get me to put it out of its misery.  Ugh…will power.  I also learned that the BMI for Asians is 3 points less than the scale that’s in our offices, which is for Caucasians.  Motivation!

Striving for perfection

Peyton has a computer that spits out a score for the games that are on there.  The first time, she counted objects, and got 60%.  I told her what that meant, and then she took her time the next time, and got 80.  I told her that a perfect score was 100.  So, she kept going and when she got to 100, she showed me.  Today, in the car, she wrote in the air a zero, zero, one.  I told her, “100 is one, zero, zero.”  So, she wrote it again in the air.  She will tell me whenever she gets a 100.  She will continue to do the easier games to score the 100, and we have to convince her to try something else.  So now she will do another game, “Which one is taller/shorter?”  A budding perfectionist; I love it.

V-day part 2

We celebrated v-day with dinner yesterday, but Dave wasn’t fully satisfied, since we were still eating at a quick pace to get the kids home for bed.  So, when I got home today, there was all kinds of sushi in the refrigerator.  Dave was feeding Brandon already before swimming, so while they were gone, I fed Peyton and tried to keep busy so I could wait for Dave to eat dinner.  I vacuumed, I roasted the other head of cauliflower, and I made the lunches for tomorrow.  When they got home, I told Dave, “I waited for you for dinner!  I haven’t eaten anything!”  Peyton said, “No, you ate cauliflower though.”  Busted.  Yes, she was right.  I had.  But other than that, I hadn’t eaten 🙂  So, Brandon went to bathe, and I had had to bathe Peyton earlier since she peed on the toilet.  She said she got to watch Aladdin because she peed on the toilet. I told her, “No, you have to pee IN the toilet.”  The trickster was trying to bargain her way in to watch Aladdin, as she had kept her underwear dry at school.  She’d just missed it here at home.  Instead, we started the same 150 piece puzzle.  This time, I was letting her sort her own pieces.  She still asked me to help her flip the pieces over, but I’m going to make her do that herself the next time.  So, I sit with her, and ask her if she has all the blue pieces, then she will go hunting for them.  Since it’s taking longer this way, I allowed her only 10 minutes before it was time to go upstairs and get ready for bed.  She was okay while I was counting down, but then lost it when it was time to go.  She recovered quickly, when I told her I was going upstairs and turning off all the lights downstairs. She happily followed me up, and went to her room.  Both kids were in their rooms by 720pm.  Peyton got Daddy’s blanket, Michael Jordan, and Pooh back today.  They were all taken away from her the night before (Sunday when Dave was here alone), since she’d come out, but last night, she stayed in her own bed all night long.  She was happy to have us tuck her in with 3 blankets because “I’m three.”  I asked her what she was going to do when she was 10.  She said, “I’m not 10, I’m 3!”  No abstract thinking just yet.  So, we waited another 5-10 minutes, then set up the table with our soy sauce dishes and beverages of choice (water for me, beer for Dave).  We had a nice, relaxed dinner while the kids gave us our Valentine’s presents by staying upstairs and falling asleep without interruptions. I’m surprised they didn’t want to come down and see what we were eating, but I guess they didn’t really know we had food down there.  Now, it’s time for Glee, and our new favorite show, New Girl.

She saves the day

Tonight, we decided to celebrate v-day early since we have swimming tomorrow, and it was all-you-can eat rib night 🙂  So we met up there, since I was at home on a conference call while Dave had picked up both kids to have his tires changed.  Both of the kids were tired, with Peyton slouched over on my arm again.  Brandon had his ninjago figure on the table after dinner, and then Peyton had her kids menu that she was coloring.  It hadn’t come with crayons, but she boldly (or not so boldly) asked the server for crayons.  It took her a few tries, but she very quietly asked for some crayons.  Brandon and Dave were done first and left, while I waited for Peyton to finish her milk.  They wanted to get a head start so that Brandon could take his bath.  I was gathering our stuff when I found out that Brandon had left his ninjago figure on the table.
Last night at dinner, Brandon told Warren that he didn’t love Peyton.  He also said he didn’t miss her when she wasn’t around.  At dinner, I asked Peyton the same questions.  She said she loved Brandon and she answered, “Yes,” when I asked her if she missed him when he wasn’t around.  So I picked her up, grabbed the ninjago, and went outside.  She said, “We’re all alone!  Where’s bruddah and Daddy? Oh, I know, they’re in the car.”  When I unlocked the doors, and the lights were on, she saw no Daddy.  She said, “Oh, there’s no Daddy.”  I had reminded her about us taking two different cars.  So we drove home, and when I took her out, I gave her the ninjago to give to Brandon.  But first, when I saw him, I asked him, “Did you have anything to play with at dinner?”  He had this goofy grin on his face when he answered, “Ninjago.”  It quickly soured when he saw my sad face and asked him where it was.  He answered, “At the restaurant,” then burst into tears.  He closed the door to go back inside, while we took our shoes off outside.  Peyton had the ninjago in her hand, and she said, “Here, bruddah.  Here you go.”  I wanted to make her the hero.  He was so beside himself, he took it gently from her hand, and muttered “Thank you.”  Dave asked him to say it again, but look at her, and into her eyes.  She was smiling, almost smugly.  Good deed done for the day.  Both kids were in bed within 20 minutes.

Practice; Dinner with Brandon; Sunday’s funnies

This morning, we took advantage of the beautiful day and headed to the park so that Brandon could practice t-ball with Dave.  Well, he practiced catching and throwing the ball, while I practiced hitting off the tee with Peyton.  She had a lot of fun, and really listened to my advice, so much so, that I was afraid of teaching her the wrong thing.  I was working on her footwork, positioning her feet toward the tee.  She’d look down at her feet, which were improperly placed, then correct herself, without me having to say anything.  I was just trying to have her feet not so close together, so I was separating them for her, but other than that, I didn’t want her to learn incorrect form.  Especially since I bat on the opposite site of the tee.  So, I decided to take her to the park instead to play on the structures, slides and swings.  We had a race over there, but she didn’t want me to run ahead too far.  Later, Brandon and Dave joined us for a bit.  She got more nerve with Brandon around, climbing up the slides that she hadn’t when he wasn’t around.  Once she saw him dart up the ladder, she wanted to follow right behind.  After we were done, Brandon and I headed back to the car.  He said, “Let’s race!” then took off.  I must admit, I had to run pretty hard to beat him, but then it only lasted for about 10 seconds.  He is totally all about burst energy.  He’d stop, say he was tired, then say, “Ok, let’s go!”  Again, I had to full out sprint, then he’d tell me to stop.  Hopefully that running can get him to first base in time.  The diamond was cordoned off, so we weren’t able to take advantage, but we should probably work on getting to first base next time.
We went to lunch, then I told Brandon if he wanted to come out to dinner with me, he had to take a nap.  I laid down with Peyton and read my book until she fell asleep.  It didn’t take long at all!  Not like when I’m really tired (I drank coffee this morning) and want to sleep with her.  I should have been filming her, as I used to when she was younger and falling asleep.  She twitched a bit, then was out.  I snuck over to Brandon’s room, and there was no movement.  That definitely means he’s sleeping.  I went downstairs to get more into my book, when about 30 minutes later, Brandon joined me.  I could tell he was still sleepy, so I had him lie down on the couch, and he fell back asleep.  After another 30 minutes, Dave returned from his ride.  Brandon woke up as I knew he would, but I told him to let Peyton continue to sleep.  Brandon was restless, wanting to go back to his room, but that meant crossing Peyton’s room, so I told him not to.  He made a bit of a fuss, but then Dave grabbed him to take a walk with him to the drugstore.  When they were gone, Peyton woke up. I heard the initial whine, then I could hear the pitter patter of her feet upstairs as she undoubtedly was looking around for me.  I put her out of her misery, and said, “I’m down here!”  She said, “Mommy, you were supposed to sleep with me!”  She came down, and I swooped her up, and held her.  She was much happier, then Dave returned with Brandon.  We each took a kid and did kid-specific things with then.  Dave helped Brandon put together his latest Ninjago that he’d had a hard time with, while I worked on another puzzle with Peyton.  We found out that the puzzle I’d thought was 100 pieces was actually 150!  So we did the other one today.  Peyton had a snack, while Brandon said he was still full from lunch.  That worked out well for our early dinner.  I asked him to take a bath before we left, so that he could go straight to sleep when we got back.  I think he thought it was weird bathing at 430pm, but he wanted to go, so he did it.  He brought some legos and a lego book to keep him busy, then we headed out to meet up with my high school friends.  Last time I took Peyton, so it was Brandon’s turn, and he was very excited.  We discussed the rules again for dinner, and how he was to show me he could do it, so he would be eligible to go again next time.  We got there right at 530pm.  Some were already there, but I set him up at the “lefty side” of the table, to my left.  We didn’t order dinner until about 6pm or so, but Brandon waited patiently for food.  He wasn’t satisfied with the appetizers (chicken satay and curry puff), but did wait until more food arrived.  He took a second satay when no one else did, when the server was clearing the dishes and asked if anyone wanted it.  Brandon was the first to volunteer.  Later, as food came, he ate faster than I could keep his plate stocked.  In fact, he had two scoops of rice (he started with brown, then changed to white as we compromised), and had a sample of each of the dishes that came out.  I think he must have eaten two plates of food!  He told me he was all done, then went back to playing while I caught up with the girls and spouses/significant others.  He was content until dessert came.  Then he started asking again for more food.  I’d given him a small portion of fried banana and mango.  I let him try the sugary pancake. He slurped it up, then wanted more. I told him he had to wait until everyone else got their fair share.  He did wait, for about two minutes, then asked again.  I could tell he was nearing his limit as it was 730pm, and getting close to bedtime.  Anthony brought out a plate full of mangos for the kids, and Brandon’s face lit up.  The dish was served at the other end of the table, so I told Brandon if he wanted more to take his plate carefully and get it from Josephine, who had portioned some already for her girls.  Brandon looked confused by what I was asking him to do.  He’s not usually told to leave the table, and I think that’s why he was confused.  He walked nicely with two hands on his plate and got his share, a few slices.  I couldn’t tell if he thanked her because I couldn’t hear, but she nodded that he did say “Thank you.”  He returned and gobbled it up before he’d even sat down.  I turned around for a second, then he was getting up again.  I thought he was going to buss his plate somewhere, though it would have been odd, but it turns out that he must have given the eye to Josephine who’d invited him back for his last slice.  He was happy to have gotten one more, then continued to draw and play with legos.  We left after diving up the bill, and headed home. It was already 8pm, and I knew it was already way past his bedtime.  Later, the girls were playing around, while Brandon looked disinterested and kept going with his own toys.  But he did take notice, when I told him Claire was his age.  He said, “Well, how old is she?”  We confirmed she was 5, but in kinder like him.  Her birthday wasn’t until September.  Josephine commented that Brandon seemed so much older, and more mature.  I’m glad Brandon was well-behaved tonight.  I guess he wants to go back with me again some time!
I was in bed reading this morning, while she was next to me with Dave’s ipad playing with a puzzle.  She said, “Mommy, you don’t have an ipad.  You can go get one at costco.  I like costco (we went yesterday).”  Then we were watching the Chinese new year parade replay.  There was a coke float, with large coke bottles arranged.  She looked at it and said, “Look at the beers!”  Nice, Dave. That’s definitely HIS influence.  Brandon chimed in and said, “Gong hay coca cola!”  Later, after I was recounting to my mom what Brandon had eaten at dinner, he piped in and said, “Can YOU believe THAT!?”

Note about Peyton: Sadly, she was asleep when we got back at 830pm. But Dave said she was happy to see the glow in the dark puzzle, which I told her she could do when it got to be nighttime.  Dave said she was turning on and off the lights and running around to see her puzzle, which wasn’t close to the light switch.  I’m tempted to turn off the lights on Dave watching the grammy’s just to see it myself.

Puzzles; t-Ball

Dave went out riding for a few hours, which was perfect timing because it was at the start of nap time.  That meant Peyton and I slept, while Brandon tinkered around with his legos.  He said he slept, and maybe that was right, since it was pretty quiet.  I got up to what sounded like him munching away from a plastic bag.  I snuck up on him, and he was just taking legos out of a bag, not eating.  Soon after, Peyton woke up.  She lounged around for awhile, then wanted to get up and do puzzles.  We headed downstairs to do a 100-piece puzzle she’d gotten for her birthday.  It’s a princess puzzle, so that helps sort out the colors.  The way I help her is to flip the pieces over, and sort by color.  She does the rest!  She doesn’t like doing the edges first, but prefers to put the princesses together, making it a little harder.  Also a challenge is that we don’t look at the box, so we really don’t know what we’re putting together or in what order.  She can tell the orientation of the pieces, too, by using clues, like the spire on the castle.  One thing she wanted to do was turn the whole thing around because it was “upside down”.  I suggested to her that she move, since all the pieces were set around the frame, which we eventually had put together.  Brandon was doing his Valentine’s cards and then his reading program, so he was busy but close by so I could supervise.  I also prepped some cauliflower to roast.  We’d picked up some at the Farmer’s market and I thought I’d try a new veggie for the kids.
When Dave came home, he prepped the salmon and got some bok choy stir fried. Brandon loves the kale chips that I make, and the cauliflower is similar.  He wanted a few bites even before dinner.  He said, “Wow, this is good!”  Peyton said, “I want some.”  I looked at her and said, “Hmm, I don’t think you will like it.  Maybe you won’t want any.”  She whined, “Yes, yes, I want some!”  Brandon said, “It’s really good.  It’s really yummy.”  Peyton opened her mouth wide, but then closed it and said, “What is it?”  I didn’t want to saw cauliflower, since earlier she’d announced that she didn’t like cauliflower.  I told her, “It’s yummy.”  She said, “It looks like popcorn,” then opened again. I put a little piece in.  She said, “Um, it’s not that yummy though.”  She struggled to eat the portion we’d given her.  She ate the bok choy with no problem.  Then left a few florets.  She whined some more, and I told her, “Do you want me to put honey on it?”  She nodded quickly, so I grabbed the honey bear, and she watched while I put one drop in the middle of the cauliflower.  She opened wide and ate it happily.  Whatever works.  I probably won’t be forcing that anymore.  She still prefers just her plain old frozen veggies.

After dinner, he took Brandon to return some t-ball gear we’d gotten earlier.  We were sent a coupon from the league for a discount, which they hadn’t honored by word of mouth earlier.  We are buying gear for t-ball-like we’re outfitting Brandon for hockey with body armor!  There is extra padding on his sternum and kidney area.  He tried it on and started pounding his chest.  He looked like half monkey, half Hulk.  We also bought own helmet, too.  I guess when we were little, my mom never thought about lice.  Or maybe she did, and just got over it.  I can’t get over it.  The norm these days is to have moppy hair, not the clean cut, clean shaven look of years past.  Dave still thinks that others will use it.  I want to put a sign on it, “DO NOT ENTER.”  Dave said the one that fit him the best has a carve out for a pony tail.  Well, at least Peyton can use it when she’s older!  So, I think we’re all set with helmets – we’re really trying to protect Brandon’s brain as we have a ski helmet, a bike helmet, and now a baseball helmet.  Dave told me this was the conversation he had with Brandon in the car.
B: Sean told me where he lives. Not the numbers, but what kind of house. He lives in a white house with a brown door.  Not like the big, white house.
D: What big, white house?
B: You know, the one the president lives in.  It’s just a medium white house.
Haha…he IS learning in school as I’m pretty sure that hasn’t come up at home.

So while they were doing their errands, Peyton and I were finishing up the puzzle.  This was our conversation:
Me: I have to go potty.
P: Okay, go potty.  I will do the puzzle by my own self.  Do you have to go pee or poop?
Me: Pee.
P: Oh, just pee? (Upon flushing) Remember to wash your hands.  Apparently, she is also learning at school!  Yay for school.

Gloomy Saturday

This morning, I wanted to run again, so I ran to the Redbox to get a movie that we’d reserved.  Well, it’s a movie for me, but Dave reserved it.  The vampire/werewolf saga’s latest movie is out today on DVD.  This means after tonight, I can resume reading the books.  I’d read all the books after watching each individual movie first, so I didn’t want to go out of sequence with the latest movie/book combo, so I’ve waited all this time.  I claimed I would watch it in the theater, but that didn’t happen.  So this was my first time running in two weeks.  It was pretty sad, and I wasn’t able to run the entire way.  But, at least I was out there, and I can go back to the treadmill to help pace myself better.  When I got back, Peyton said, “Mommy, you have to go take a shower.”  I asked, “Why?”  She said, “Because you’re all sweaty!”  She is such a girl!  The kids were watching the rest of Enchanted.  Right as the prince and princess were going to kiss, Brandon took off upstairs.  I’m not sure if it was intentional or just a timing thing, but I couldn’t stop giggling.  We’re going to hit up the Farmer’s market and then Dave and Ted will go riding later today.  It’s 10am, and we’re still at home.  That’s a bit unlike us.  Oh, and Brandon will be starting T-ball soon, so Dave needs to go out and get him a cup.  Ah….he’s growing up.

Deja vu; Dentist field trip; Double parenthood returns

The kids are starting to do things that I did with my brother back in the day.  Last night, on the way home from swimming, Brandon turned to Peyton in the backseat of the car, and said, “Okay, let’s see who can stare the longest and not blink.”  Peyton said, “Oh, okay (like she’d played before).”  I was driving, but chuckled listening to them.  Brandon whined, “Mommy, she’s beating me!!”  Haha…I could just imagine Peyton being, well, Peyton. No one can break down her stare.  At a red light, I turned around, and she was in full-on Peyton mode, staring at Brandon, who was smiling and giggling, eyes already half-closed.  Ah, Brandon.  Maybe one of these days.

Today, we went on a field trip to the dentist’s office.  The class was split into groups of 4, and the groups rotated through 4 different stations.  At the first station, the hygienist said she was going to take a “toothprint”.  She asked for a volunteer, and Brandon’s hand immediately shot up.  He climbed into the chair, and she took an impression of his teeth.  He requested his bottom teeth, which has a mix of adult and baby teeth.  They didn’t actually pour it, but did label the tray, so I’m hoping we may get the impression later somehow.  There was another station talking about healthy eating, another with a camera showing x-rays, and showing them the different dental tools.  It was less than an hour, but this was the first time I had someone else’s kid in the car with me.  Though we were only a mile away, it was still a bit nerve-wracking.  Sammie was sitting in Peyton’s chair, and I swear she weighed less than Peyton.  I helped her into the chair, and buckled her up.  The buckles, set to Peyton, were looser than they are on Peyton.  She’s at least 2 years older than Peyton!  Yikes!  The car ride over was pretty quiet, as Brandon wasn’t saying anything and Sammie is naturally quiet.  I had to ask her questions just to get her to talk.  I guess once she was comfortable, she started telling us about her car seat, her grandparents having one, and something about her carseat in her dad’s car changing.  I’m glad both kids made in to and from in one piece. I went home, ate some lunch, then went back to do yard duty.  Today was easy, since Brandon was a bit hurt.  He said he hurt his leg running, but did keep running. I ignored it, but the yard duty saw he wasn’t being himself (because he was calm) and asked him what was wrong.  She asked him if he had told his mom.  I looked over and smiled, then continued to half-ignore him yet still watch him at the same time.  I think he just wanted to make sure he didn’t get in trouble because I told him if he got all greens today, we could cash in his free birthday ice cream.  When I picked him up from school, I told him we had to go home and do some homework first before going to ice cream, then picking up Peyton (ice cream is by her school).  So we sat and read from the computer program, then Dave walked in the door.  Brandon became surly shortly thereafter!  I told Dave that he was doing a good job listening until he came home!  I had to send Brandon up for a timeout which lasted 9 minutes.  When he was done, he had to finish up what I had been working on with him, then we headed out.  Brandon and I got up and then he asked, “Um, Daddy, are you coming?”  So we went to ice cream as earned, then ran into Sally and her boys, who had just come from a dentist appointment.  We got Peyton right after that.  Peyton had just woken up when Dave walked into the room.  Brandon followed, and then I entered.  She didn’t want to get up or move around.  She’d taken off her shoes and socks (the kids are supposed to sleep with them on in case there is an evacuation needed), and was slowly putting them on.  I went over to help her move quickly, and we all went to the library.  I was looking for the Little Mermaid, but it wasn’t available.  We found some other movies, and went home for dinner.  Since we’d gotten home so early, the bedtime routine started early, and the kids were in bed by 7pm.  They both seemed cranky, and Brandon was definitely tired.  Peyton is still up and about at 8pm, but I’m pretty sure he is out cold.  Tomorrow, running will start again.  While I would prefer to have something to “look forward to” or train for, I will resume healthy behaviors now that we are back to double parenthood.

Phew….

Here I am, sitting on the couch, watching AI.  I’ve completed my marathon today.  I went to sleep an hour earlier last night, quickly falling asleep, then jolting awake, realizing it wasn’t yet time to wake up.  It was 2am.  But I started thinking about all the things I had to do today, worrying about getting Brandon to swimming on time.  Backing up from swimming time, I had to have precise timing to get things done in time.  I woke up with my alarm, not snoozing as I usually do.  Peyton had already woken up, too, and instead of coming to my room like she usually does, she was with Brandon.  I went in to get her out, and was immediately hit with this smell.  She looked at me and said, “I pooped in my diaper.”  Ugh.  I haven’t had to change a poopy diaper in I don’t know how long.  Why today!!??  And to make matters worse, she had already walked around upstairs, so it smelled like stink bombs everywhere!  I don’t know how long it’d be in there, as she didn’t really tell me.  I quickly changed her, cleaned up, and changed her clothes.  The routine was a bit goofy as a result, and I ended up feeding them while I got ready.  It may have been too early for them to eat, since neither finished their breakfast, which is unusual.  While Brandon was getting his backpack ready, he said, “It feels much lighter!”  OH!   I hadn’t packed his lunch!  We were still much earlier than normal, but still!  I threw our lunches together, thanked Brandon for reminding me, and then slathered on the sunscreen.  Peyton decided she wanted to get her Tangled shoes, and went upstairs to get them.  We were getting things ready downstairs, and she gave up looking and came back down.  We headed out the door by 715am.  Dropped Brandon off by 725am, Peyton by 740am, and me at work, in my chair just before 8am.  Ugh.  With all that, it still wasn’t much earlier than I normally get to work.  So I took a shorter lunch, and headed out by 415pm.  I got to Peyton by 430pm, then to Brandon by 450pm.  Home by 5pm, and Brandon was changing.  I fed Peyton in this time, but since Brandon came down, he started eating his leftover lunch.  When he was done inhaling his food, I packed up her food, put her milk in a container, and gave Brandon a slice of leftover pizza.  My intent was to not have them eat again after swimming.  I brought Peyton’s food, plastic wrapped over her bowl, fork sticking out, and threw it in the swim bag. We were out the door by 520pm, which would seem like enough time, but I don’t know the short cuts like Dave.  I went the long way around, and Brandon said, “Um, Daddy doesn’t go this way.”  Yeah, yeah.  We made it with a few minutes to spare.  Peyton just wanted to eat, but I wanted to check Brandon in first.  Once we did, she ate the rest of her food, then asked for her computer.  She played quietly, while I watched Brandon on the monitor.  It’s funny watching her “work” as she was counting objects per the instructions, and then she wasn’t sure, so she double counted before answering.  So different than her brother who likes to rush.  She looked up and saw this dad with a green shirt wrapped around his waist.  She blurted out, “Hey, that looks like Daddy’s blanket.”  Good thing the guy didn’t know she was talking about him.   With about five minutes left, we went into the foyer to watch.  I held her up so she could see Brandon, then some dad said, “Excuse me,” so we moved, then he proceeded to stand in our way.  Peyton said, “I CANNOT SEE BRUDDAH!”  Yeah, you, rude guy.  Listen to the kid!  Glad she isn’t afraid to use her words!  He kinda got the hint, and moved a bit to the side, while I moved around a little as well to have her see Brandon jumping off the wall, having a great time.  After class was done, we brought him his towel, then I had to leave him in the boys’ bathroom since there are signs that once they are over 5, they have to go into their respective gender bathrooms.  So I waited outside what seemed forever.  Then started thinking about all these creepy thoughts of what was going on in there.  I gave myself two more minutes before sending someone in there or going in there myself.  Finally, he came out smiling.  Phew.  We headed out in the car and went straight home.  Brandon took a shower first, then it was Peyton’s turn, while Brandon dressed.  After that, Brandon started his reading program, and Peyton and I joined him when she was all done.  After a few books, it was bedtime.  Brandon went down without a problem, even telling me he was tired as I reviewed the field trip rules for tomorrow.  He said, “My teacher already told all of us that today.”  Peyton is still up, coming down now because her radio turned off.  I gave her the choice of the radio or “Daddy’s blanket”.  She chose the radio, so she threw down the blanket, and slipped a few steps.  Oops.  She’s back up there, and I’m sure she will sleep soon.  I’ve already cleaned up the car to make it presentable for Sammie for the field trip.  I went out to the car, and Peyton heard the door and said, “Are you going running?”  I guess she doesn’t get the single parenthood gig.  We still have to drop off Peyton first, then get through flag salute.  Phew.

Last weekend, we were eating breakfast and “A whole new world” (the adult version) came on.  She stopped eating, listened closely, and said, “OH, Aladdin!”  Then, when the female vocal came on, she whispered, “Jasmine now.”  She was so happy to listen to it in the restaurant that she didn’t start eating until the song was done.
