Reading; Run!

This morning, I found Brandon in bed still, but sitting up.  I asked him what he was doing, and he told me he was reading since there were no clothes out for him.  While he CAN get his own clothes out, I normally put them out the night before.  But somehow that didn’t happen, but I think he was just using it as an excuse.  So I asked him what he was reading, and he held up his Ninjago book.  Not a picture book, mind you, but a chapter book, with very few pictures.  He seemed to be “reading” it, but I’m not sure if he reads like Peyton reads.  She makes stuff up by looking at pictures.  But has a great time with the story, fabricating away.  I think Brandon really has an interest in learning more about the characters, so will power through if he doesn’t know some words.  I’m willing to get him almost any book he wants if that will mean he will read it.

This evening, even though we went out, we still got home by 630pm.  Brandon got to watch a beyblade episode, but not before taking his bath.  Peyton had to be bathed by Dave, since she’d misbehaved at dinner.  Yes, it doesn’t make sense at all, but I think she knows why.  She was calling out for me the entire bath, even while I watched them.  Dave let her go as soon as she was done, and she went to her room to put her clothes on.  She sighed, and sat down on my lap in silence.  I asked her why she was crying, and she started weeping again, telling me that she wanted me to give her a bath. I asked her why she wasn’t able to bathe with me.  She answered appropriately, and then proceeded to put her clothes on by herself.  She was happy to join Brandon downstairs, even giving him his fluoride.  I took off out the front door by 715pm, running 3 miles around the neighborhood, in circles around the courts and cul de sacs around to avoid crossing streets.  I got home in 32 minutes 🙂  I have to somehow incorporate hills into the concrete training.  The treadmill can only do so much, and I prefer the fresh, non-stinky air to that of the gym.

Update: I just looked to see what book Brandon checked out for the weekend.  A Practical Guide to Dragon Riding.  I can’t wait to have him read it to me!  It has little snippets of how to stay on or what to do if you fall off.  I turned it to one page that had someone in free fall.  Fun!

Newest member of PETA?

So this morning, Peyton saw something on her placemat at the table. She said, “Oh, an ant!” I quickly looked, since I’d just taken her mat out of the sink as it dried there overnight. I looked closely, and it was a teeny tiny spider. Like the tip of a pin needle. So small, I’m surprised she saw it. Brandon said, “Oh, wait!” and jumped up to come look, just as I smooshed it with a napkin. That’s how small it was; I wasn’t afraid to smoosh it. Brandon went back to his chair, and put his hands on his head and looked like he was crying. I asked him, “Are you crying?” He said, “Yes! All of my family are bug killers except me! And spiders eat bugs!” Then he burst into tears. Prostate cancer opacc.cv cheap levitra involving prostatectomy & destruction of the pancreatic tissue and inflammation. Shoosha?

So, I’m convinced the kids have their own language. They’re not twins, but they have still made up their own words. One in particular upsets Peyton, especially when Brandon directs it at her. This is how it typically goes.
Brandon: You are Shoosha.
Peyton: I am NOT Shoosha!

Brandon: Yes, you are shoosha.
Peyton: Stop calling me that, I am not shoosha! Mommy, I’m not shoosha!
And more whining ensues, as Brandon just knows how to get under her skin. Funny that she never calls him Shoosha, and I don’t think that he would ever get as upset as she does. I still have no idea who or what “Shoosha” is.

Flip the switch

Tonight, Dave told me he was going to go running. We have a run coming up in July, which we are doing together, so he doesn’t want to be completely out of shape for it. Peyton asked me, “Is Daddy going to ride his bike?” I told her he was going running. Then she said, “But Daddy doesn’t run. He doesn’t do that.” Haha…she knows! So I’m hanging out downstairs waiting for the kids to fall asleep, when I hear the key in the door. T-ball day

T-ball day means that I pick up Peyton, and we have some girl time. We got home, and I fed her dinner. She ate, drank her milk, and knew to not lag, since last time she did that, she did not get to go to the park.  She stopped halfway through dinner to do her usual business, and then continued on.  She was hurrying me up, so we could get going.  We headed out on our walk to school.  Each time we walk, she’s getting better with the distance.  We cut through the open grassy center field at the middle school, and she loves to run.  She even ran on the concrete, which I captured, but somehow the resolution was changed on my phone (the kids no doubt, more specifically, the little one).  We saw some dogs, squirrels, people, and the prickly things that fall from the trees.  Here’s her video.  We made it The drug will be delivered new.castillodeprincesas.com online cialis to you in short. I got Peyton in bed with her two books, then brushed Brandon’s teeth.  Dave was cleaning up downstairs, so I juggled kids until both only needed a hug from Daddy.  I passed Dave on the stairwell on my way out to go to the gym.  We’re now watching the last episode of Glee for the year.

Wrong line of work

Peyton woke up from her nap when she heard “Just the way you are” come on the radio. She popped up from her chair and said, “OH, Bruno Mars!” She proceeded to sing the song along with the radio, and I told Dave that too bad Peyton is so shy, since she really enjoys singing and dancing. She seemed to do well with a large group singing on stage, like the two previous classroom performances, so maybe she’ll still find her own outlet. She wouldn’t talk to Tommy, Dave’s friend, who was sitting next to her at the wedding. Wedding

So, we’d gotten up about an hour before the start of the wedding. I started to get ready, while Dave was ironing. We’d wanted to get ourselves ready before getting the kids ready. I’d done everything except change my clothes, then Peyton started to stir. She came in to potty, then went back to lie around. We only had 30 minutes by this time. Since she was more awake, I changed her first. Brandon was out cold. He wasn’t moving for anything. So we got ready around him, then with 15 minutes, Peyton and I headed out. It was great staying at the same place as the wedding. We didn’t have to go very far. We signed in, and we found a place to sit. Not soon after, Brandon and Dave joined us. Brandon was very subdued, and calm, which was great, since the wedding was running behind. It got started about 30 minutes late, but it was short, and we didn’t need to break out the snacks or phones. The guests were given programs with a small tube of bubbles. Both kids were told to wait until the ceremony was done before blowing them. Peyton was obsessed with shooing the gnats away from the chairs. I think they are used to being at weddings, and were pretty well-behaved. After the ceremony, they did get a little nuts. They were having fun with bubbles, and since it was a grassy area, they got to roam around a bit. They had a great time with Abby, and once their bubbles were done, they calmed down a bit. Brandon didn’t have his bubbles for awhile, since he’d put them in my bag and they disappeared in the bottom somehow, so he just sat at popped and goofed around. Later, he did find them, and started bubbling all over again. We found our table, and got seated, but we weren’t seated with the cousins. We sat closely to them, but still, not at the same table. The kids received their fruit plate, which they both inhaled. Each kid had a goodie bag with a small deck of cards; Brandon got one for war, and Peyton’s was snap. They also had candy, which I quickly confiscated. Their entree was mac and cheese, which I felt badly for Peyton, since she’d already eaten the same mac and cheese for lunch. We busted out our own broccoli, and even shared some with the twins sitting at our table. The kids ate that, and then took turns on the ipad. It was getting pretty late, but the dessert table was not yet open, so we decided to go take photo booth pictures.

After we were done with pictures, we got in line for the dessert. Dave and Brandon waited, while Peyton and I waited at our table. Abby brought over a blueberry mochi creme and set it down on our table in front of Peyton. She was so shocked, she didn’t say anything, and Abby quickly returned to her table. I had Peyton go thank her before eating it. She did, and returned to eat it. I took 2 bites from her, to taste it and help her finish it. Later, as Dave was closer to the front, we joined up with them. We tasted all of the samples they had. It was all yummy! It was at this time the dancing started. The bride and groom are both avid salsa dancers, so they are both very graceful, and most of their friends are as well. The dance floor was filled with graceful dancers, dancing to mostly 60’s music, like “Tequila” and “The Twist.” I grew up on these songs from my parents, but our kids have never really heard the songs before. That didn’t stop Peyton. She came up to me and looked at me with puppy dog eyes. I asked her if she wanted to go dance, and she nodded! That was unheard of! I told her to go ask Daddy, and she walked up to him and said, “Daddy, will you take me?” He didn’t really know what she was talking about until I nodded over to the dance floor. Dave did, and this is what she did. When she was out there, she didn’t really dance.  She was happy to just watch at the edge of the dance floor.  We decided it was time to head out.  There were a fair number of kids, and they all lasted about the same time.  It was a little after 10pm, and since they had done decently there up until that time, we didn’t want to push our luck.  We said our goodbyes, then headed “home”.  I’d previously asked Peyton, “Which bed do you want to fall off of tonight?” She had picked the bed closer to the wall.  She’d not wanted any pillows, so I’d thrown them all in between the bed and wall to build a place for her to fall if she did.  I managed to make the pillow stack almost reach the top of the bed.  I reminded her to keep close to me to avoid falling off the bed.  I think she took it literally, since she was almost on top of me all night long.  After Brandon fell asleep, Dave came over to our side, sandwiching her in, but she was moving around too much, so he took off, and let me handle things. I’d set my alarm for 730am, even though Dave knew the kids would be up before that time.  We’d wanted to get an early start but wanted to meet up with the cousins before doing so.  So we agreed on heading out by 8am.  We’d packed and got everything ready the night before, so when I got up, I quickly changed, then got the kids up to do the same.  Again, we had to wake them, but figured they’d sleep in the car.  We all met up, and once we’d arrived, were told that we had to race another family since we’d only be seated once our full party was present.  Jeff and Penelope came to tell us, while we yanked both kids out and started to run down the street.  Peyton was yelling, “Go faster, Mommy!  Faster!”  I was in flip flops and carrying her, so her request was nearly impossible, as I was going as fast as I could.  We got there, and luckily, the other family had not.  We were all seated together, with Dave and I facing either other, having one kid next to us, then we did the same-aged kid in mirror image so that all the kids were next to each other.

They all enjoyed playing together, with their Wikki stix and coloring supplies.  We ordered for them, and ate breakfast without incident.  Peyton earlier had asked us is Penelope was going home with us.  Brandon had wanted to make sure we were having breakfast with Abby and Penelope.   We ate within an hour, and were soon headed out.  Penelope had also asked if she could go with us, but she was convinced that her shorter drive would be easier for her.  It’s really fun that they are all of similar age.  We hit the road by 945am, and were planning to power through until after we got out of the city. The kids were both falling asleep before 1230pm, especially Peyton, and then I started playing the alphabet game with her. Brandon was doing workbook pages, and then asked, “May I play with you?”  So we all played, and Dave got us to our destination.  We got our burgers, made just for each of us, and then ate them in YL.  We got some fro-yo after, then headed out with tummies full again and bladders empty.  Soon, the three passengers fell asleep, and it was a quiet trip for the driver.  Peyton slept for awhile, then got up, looked upset that she was awake, looked around, then fell back to sleep. She later woke up about 30 minutes from our destination.  We made it all the way home until we stopped for dinner.  We made it in a little over 7 hours, with the help of the Lexus lane that we decided was worth the $5 to pay to save an extra 30 minute detour, and only one stop!  Glad we could coordinate all the potty breaks and make it home safely.

There were some notable sound bites from our drive.

Geography, Day

pWhile we were driving yesterday, Brandon was pretending to drive in the backseat with his beyblade.stadium, telling Peyton they were going to look for bad guys. Peyton asked him where they were going, and he replied, “Oakland.” Dave thought it was funny that Brandon thinks there are bad guys in Oakland. br
We interchanged play with work yesterday on the drive down, making the most if the sunlight. I printed off some 2nd grader worksheets, but we’re not sure what standards they are using, as Brandon is able to do many of them. Some are harder concepts, such as “Who’s vs. whose,” so I’ll wait, but others, like homophones and synonyms, I figured I could introduce or have him practice. Dave didn’t know how Brandon was supposed to know the difference between “beats vs beets”, but he knew others like “eight vs ate”, “son vs sun” and “won vs one”. I was proud of him.  We stopped for dinner, then got in around 8pm. The kids stayed up a little, then bathed and tried to go to sleep. The combination of not bring able to run around, being excited, and being not in their own beds led then to roll around for over an hour, and not fall asleep until after 10. They took turns waking each other up, as Brandon wouldn’t fall asleep, then Peyton woke up thirsty. They both got up at their usual time of before 7. We ate a quick breakfast, then headed off to the park. Not to go in, but to see about buying season passes, which are going up. This is the second time this year where we’ve gotten that close yet did not enter the park. Dave had run ahead while I talked behind with two walking kids through Downtown. Poor Peyton was doing her best, jogging along, while trying to talk breathlessly to us. After his walk a thon fear, I told Brandon he’s now graduated to walking status. He agreed! So we met up with Dave, then we headed back to the car, as he’s gotten his answer. We headed further south and urged the kids to sleep. Peyton took us up on it, her tired body not giving her a chance, while Brandon fought every step of the way. He was too busy looking out the windows. I took a nap, and later he told me there were army trainings going on. We checked in, and then touched base with Meg and Jeff. We all met up at the pool, and spent some time in the heated pool. It was perfect. Abby was showing Brandon all her different strokes, while pushing Brandon to show her his. Looks like he just needed some motivation!  Abby was very encouraging to Brandon, and they played well together. Peyton swam mostly with me, but she wanted to do what the big kids were doing. When they did head bobs, she was not to be outdone. She was able to hold her breath for a quick 10 count. We started for 5, then 7 and finally 10. She kept telling me how she’s going swimming this summer “by my own self” at her lessons.  She held her breath longer than Brandon, who is usually too giggly to go too long. She and Abby about tied! Latter she wanted to jump into the pool like Penelope, but I’m always afraid she will jump backward and hit her head. We got out after about an hour. I can’t remember a time I’ve been in such pleasant water! It took no time to get used to it, and it was much harder getting out. We bathed and headed back down for lunch. The kids did done worksheets, while we waited for food to arrive. We could tell the pool had done its job to wear them out. I brought them back to.the room while Dave settled up the bill and drank the rest of my complementary margarita. I’d only gotten through half. I’d drawn the blackout curtains, and it was pitch dark. Both continued to roll around, even after I out soothing music. Finally Dave came back, laid down with Brandon, then he went out first. I could hear his breathing change, with a faint snore. Dave soon was breathing a bit deeper. I knew I needed to get Peyton down fast before she woke up Brandon, but because she’d already slept earlier I didn’t know how likely it was going to be. I started combing her hair in my fingers, and after about 5 minutes, she was down for the count. I tried to sleep, but we’d had coffee earlier. The amount of alcohol I had was but enough to counteract that, so here I am blogging. Looking forward to spending time at the wedding and with the cousins. Brandon had asked if we’d be seeing Abby again. We said we would. Hopefully we’re at the same table!/p

Conversations

While Peyton and I were going to school, I was talking to Dave on.speakerphone briefly, reminding him of something, but Peyton was trying to ask him to put more batteries in her computer. She managed to ask, but only after I was done. After we hunt up, she said, “Mommy, you said a lot of words to Daddy, and I only said one word.” I think Dave’s said that to me in some form before. This morning, I had both kids in the car on the way to Peyton’s school first. Both were talking over each other at me, so I had to break it up. I gave Brandon the floor, then after his thought, it was Peyton’s turn, then back to Brandon. After a few rounds, Peyton said, “I have no words.” Brandon continued a few solo rounds, then also gave up, and then there was silence.
After Peyton was at school, we went to flag salute, then I went home to pack. Then I went back to Brandon’s school for yard duty.
