I had a meeting at school with some of the moms for next year’s school year planning for the after school programs. I’m supposed to be leading it off next year, but still “in training”. I informed the moms I was sick, so I wanted to stay away from everyone. They kept trying to get me to sit closer, but I didn’t want to infect anyone else. It lasted about 2 hours, and I came home just in time to accept the delivery of Brandon’s new furniture. The two guys brought it upstairs and set it up in less than 5 minutes. Soon after, I returned to school to get Peyton. I got her home and started piano practice knowing we’d be gone this weekend. She made it through, then Dave came home. He packed up the car after I’d put the bags together, and we left to get Brandon about 15 minutes before he was set to be dismissed. The drive down then started, and three of us (the non drivers) all fell asleep. I was exhausted, as were the kids, and when we awoke 2 hours later, we were only just past Gilroy! Yes, traffic was that bad. What a waste of a nap. Normally, we’d be almost half-way down in that amount of time. We stopped for some cough drops for Brandon, and then we headed on our way. We had snacks in the car, and then stopped for dinner at new place for us that Michelle had mentioned on their last trip. We ended up spending about an hour in here with both potties and food. We headed back on the road to less traffic and nightfall by that time. We ended up getting into Dave’s parents’ house by 1030 or 11 pm. We showered the kids, then sent them to bed. We slept in only until a little after 7 am, which is still better than their home schedule. We got up and got ready for our day. We had Chinese breakfast with the parents before heading off to the park. We arrived somewhat early, around 11 am, and I went to get my bib, while the kids and Dave hung around downtown Disney. I met up with them, then we headed inside. I was exhausted just walking around the park, so I couldn’t wait to get checked into the hotel. We were told that wouldn’t happen until 3 or 4 pm, so we just hung out and did two rides – buzz, which didn’t record a picture 🙁 and Thunder Mountain, since it was open (it wasn’t our last trip). This was Peyton’s final mountain to overcome. She was a bit hesitant, with a not so happy face, but she had a great time! We headed out to look for lunch. I wanted to carb load, so we found a place that had a bit of everything. I had pasta with veggies right across from our hotel. We checked in after that, and then Dave took the kids back out to the park. I settled in with my running clothes, putting my bib on, getting all my gear out and packing up my pockets with all my stuff. I then showered and got ready for the night. We were in a suite, so I had the front room while the kids and Dave were sleeping in the back. I got everything ready to go for the morning, double-checked my alarm was set for 345 am, and then turned on the game. It was just starting, and I put a 60 minute timer on. I fell asleep sometime during the game, and when I awoke, the tv was off. It was too quiet, and too light out, so I knew I hadn’t slept long. I fell back asleep, and stayed that way until I heard the grumbling of fire works. Then soon after, Dave came home with the kids. They tried to be quiet, but I heard them shower up and bump around in their room. I figured they must have been watching tv after as they were super quiet. I confirmed that the next day 😉
I did go to sleep again after that, and I popped up when I heard my alarm. I got ready in 15 minutes, and headed out to catch my shuttle. I was out there with all the other runners, and the shuttle showed up within 5 minutes. It was a perfect morning, just about 55 degrees. I was planning to gear check, and I had all my stuff in my bag. I ate my breakfast after we were dropped off, then checked my stuff. I still had 45 minutes before the start of the race, so I stretched. I tried my hardest to NOT be on my phone, since I wanted to preserve battery life for my music and race-tracking. I also had to find Dave after. I’d brought my full charger, but I left it in my gear bag for after. So I didn’t touch my phone with the exception to take a few pictures. The selfies were not FB-worthy 😉 Pre-dawn photos usually aren’t. I think this was the first race where I knew no one in it. I didn’t have anyone to talk to in the corral, no one to take the shuttle with, but given that I was sick, it was just fine not to talk to anyone. I was loaded up on cough drops in both of my tank top pockets (in the back). I’d had a can of prepped coffee and a luna bar to eat. Finally, it was time for the national anthem, and at that time, I prepped my music and phone. The run started and wheelchairs were let go at 529 am, with corral A at 530 am. I was in B, based on a 10 K time, when I was faster, so I got to start with faster runners. That helped me a lot to keep pace. I did fine with pacing the first two miles, running under 11. I was still mostly running by 5K, and 10K, then it all went downhill from there. I lacked stamina, and walked quite a bit. More than I’ve ever done in a race. I stopped at many more water stations than I usually had. I had a cough drop parked in my buccal pocket (gum) for every mile of that race. Each time I ran “low”, I was already unwrapping another. Only problem was I lacked fine motor control in my hands. I had to concentrate to unwrap the square cough drop and take the waxed paper coating off. And because I was conscientious, I put the trash back in my shirt for disposal later. It was really warming up, but I kept pushing on. At mile 11 or so, I had cramping in my legs, by my knees! I didn’t even know I had muscles there that could cramp. I kept walking through it because I figured if I stopped, I may have fallen over! I somehow made it the last two miles or so, half walking, half jogging my way back to the finish line. I ran the last chute, only because I didn’t want to be seen walking in with all those people watching. I got my medal, took a picture, and then went to sit down and assess my situation. I put all my earbuds back together, to avoid losing anything. I’d gotten my gear bag and put my sweatshirt on. Dave was texting me that he was coming into the park, and asked if I had my pass. I could only imagine that meant I had to meet him and he planned to start our day in the park. It opened at 9 am, and it was just after 830 am when I was coordinating with him. I had a choice to meet him at downtown disney by walking through downtown disney or taking the tram from the parking lot. The tram was a block with not much traffic or through downtown disney through the throng of finishers and their families. I opted for the tram, and then I had to fight regular park traffic with nice clean people. I was given a towelette in my snack pack, and I used that to wipe the salt crystals that were on my face. I still felt bad for the two people that flanked me on the tram. I was texting Dave from the tram, and he told me he was also on the tram. The same tram! I waited for them to get off, and we re-grouped. He hadn’t brought my glasses, or my backpack, so I was stuck with my gear bag. We went through security, and then I was flagged for additional screening! Ugh. Luckily, I was minimally packed, so it didn’t take too long. We headed into CA side to get the RSR fast passes. Dave got me some breakfast and coffee for him, as they had all eaten at the hotel (lucky them). The hotel offered it with the stay, so it was nice for them to eat to start their day. Then, he left to check out of the hotel and move the car around, while I moved back over to Dland to do more rides with the kids. Dave had offered me to go back and shower up, and then I’d have to move the car, etc. I picked hanging out with the kids. I could sleep in the car and shower at home. They told me all the rides they went on, they had Chinese food for dinner, and had Rita’s ice and pistachio custard for dessert! Oh, and they also had peach cobbler funnel cake. He was capitalizing on me not being there as well as it being our last few days of the park life with our passes for this year. We got on most of the rides in 5 minutes – Autopia, which has a new sponsor, fast passes for Hyperspace mountain, got on Splash mountain, and Pirates. I was happy for pirates, sleeping for 20 minutes with the kids staying put in the boat. They asked for the front, so we were just the three of us in the row. We were going to go back and do Space with our passes, then saw it was closed! Bummer. Though I didn’t really want to do a roller coaster, as it may have upset my balance of things. I decided to head over to CA and meet Dave with our RSR passes. We decided to eat lunch at that time, though I was still not quite ready for real food. I got the kids small meals to tide them over, then Dave found us. We finished up there, rode RSR, and then headed back over to see if Space was still available. I was going to head to Thunder Mountain for Peyton to do it one last time (she says it’s the smoothest roller coaster there, echoing Dave’s sentiments). I sat and waited for them, and as soon as Dave texted me they were done, Thunder Mountain closed down! What bad luck! From there, we decided to call it a day. Peyton was complaining about the walking we were doing back and forth. I reminded her what distance I had to cover already that morning. She said she wished she had a stroller. I told her I wished I did, too. 😉
I still hadn’t found anything that I’d really wanted to eat. Finally on our way out, I made up my mind with a acai bowl! I ordered it at Jamba juice while Dave was getting candy. He’s really making the most of his pass and the discount. Several times during the day, he told me he was going to renew. Funny guy. We started our trip back, in traffic, of course, but the kids fell asleep before I was done with my bowl. I then went to sleep and tried to get comfortable. We stopped back at the farm, and then again in Gilroy for the return. The drive was a bit better, but still traffic in spots that we did not expect. At about 10 pm, we had the kids showered and in bed. Fortunately, they did a pretty good job today. Peyton had practice, while I had Brandon doing homework and piano. Dave is out with the softball dads while I’m watching the Warriors game.

They were putting up hearts for me. I was supposed to blow them kisses. I blew it because I got scared and put my hands down.
Over 40,000 steps yesterday on my wrist. My phone said 48,000 so either way it was a lot of ground covered.
