I drove straight home from work and by that time, Dave had picked up my dad and both kids. They were all in the car, since I’d given them a heads up that I was on my way. We left as soon as I changed, and we headed up to the snow. My mom had picked up our turkey dinner and was getting it ready for us by the time we got up there. But the problem was that we couldn’t wait all the way before eating. We stopped at our only fast food place that we told the kids was okay to go to, since we can order the food our way. We ordered Brandon a double-double without salt or sauce, then I ordered one protein style (but added fries, again, no salt). Dave went next door to McD’s to get a salad to split as well. We enjoyed the food, and then headed back out on the road. The kids stayed awake the whole time, with Peyton singing, talking and asking about princesses most of the ride up. We got in around 9pm, and my mom had everything ready – turkey, fixings, and wine (one I love!). There was even special grape juice for the kids from the same winery as our wines. Only Brandon was not hungry. We convinced him to come sit at the table and just drink his juice. He was happy to do that. We ate just a bit, then we put the kids down to bed. We woke up the next morning, then we lazed and ate breakfast that Dave made. We brought all of our stuff for snow, but there was not much to be had. We had to gondola up, but it wasn’t worth it, not really knowing how much was up there. So we wanted to put the kids’ stuff to use, and we headed to the ice rink. We had the kids in helmets and rented skates for us all. For our first outing, I took Peyton, while Dave took Brandon. Both kids were eager to get out there, but quickly realized it wasn’t easy. I had Peyton in between my arms with her feet in between mine. We made it two laps before I brought her in to take my jacket off. I was working up a sweat despite it being freezing inside. My dad was happy, since he immediately took my jacket and put it on. There were buckets for use for the kids, which I didn’t have when learning how to skate. So, we took a rest and had the kids use those to get around. Then, we switched off kids, and had one rest at a time, since they were getting tired. One kid would go stay with my parents, and then we’d have the other. We were able to get videos this way. Here is Peyton and Dave. Here is Brandon and Dave. I shot Brandon’s video while skating backwards, which I haven’t done in quite some time. I did put my phone away, since I didn’t want to break it on the ice, or anything else for that matter. The kids were both done after about an hour, so Dave and I took two laps around the rink. Then, we, too, were done. We headed home and ate lunch. Then the kids and I went down for a nap, while Dave and my mom went “to work” at the casinos. My mom came home first, then later, Dave. We had leftovers for dinner, then afterward, we all went for a long walk down the strip and back. We took some pictures of some huge bike sculptures while we came back. After they walked, we bought the kids a hot cocoa to share. Peyton’s face says it all! Then we got them down again to sleep. They definitely stayed awake later than usual, but it also helped that Brandon took naps during the day. Friday we participated a little bit in the shopping, but since there are not a lot of stores up there, it was mostly office supplies and kids’ stuff. We took advantage of our lodging and did some kids crafts in the “Cub House”. We could not leave Peyton unsupervised, so we stayed to watch them paint sailboats and then saw the boat race. Peyton got her face painted, which I was surprised she let them do, but since it was a butterfly, I could understand why. Brandon had a spider and a snake on either of his hands. He is still not a fan of anything on his face. Peyton and Brandon climbed on the climbing wall, but Peyton challenged herself when the attendants told her the right side was harder. So, she practiced on the right. And eventually, she made it all the way up! She was probably 7 feet up in the air, and just like a cat, she got herself up there, but then got scared on the way down. She must have tried at least a dozen times before she got up there on her own. Brandon didn’t invest that much time in it. Here is the most successful of her attempts. She was using all her leg muscles, as one time I put my hand on her leg to steady her, and her leg was solid! Not the usual squishiness that I normally feel. She was very proud of her achievement, and she took each grandparent in there solo to show them she could do it. Our last feast was the seafood buffet. Brandon challenged his seafood allergy and went for the clams and mussels. He kept wanting more, and we kept waiting for him to get itchy. Since he didn’t, we let him have more. He didn’t eat shrimp or crab, but the bivalves were fine! He even got to eat two eclairs, and declared that they were very yummy. My dad offered him the second one, and he kept looking at me to see if it was okay. I think he was giddy! After he ate those, he stated he was done, and then said, “I don’t think I can make it back home.” That was Dave’s signal to go walk back with him. While he did that, we finished the rest of our dinner, and then Peyton was ready, too. We got home, and Brandon was already in bed, waiting for a hug. I hugged him, then he was soon out. Peyton was not yet ready for bed, so she went with my dad to run some errands. They went to the business office, then again to the rock wall. It was dark inside, so she wasn’t able to climb very well. Then they came back. Dave tried to wash off her face paint, but he wasn’t that successful. He didn’t want to scrub too hard and take off skin, so he left her alone. This morning, we woke up and packed up our stuff. We’d gotten through most of the food we brought, but still had a lot of snacks left. We took the Cuties in the car for our drive, and the kids were so excited to see the full bag of pirates booty. We packed up both cars, then we headed out. My mom was going back her way, and we were taking my dad back home. The kids were wild with energy, but we knew they could go to sleep, so Dave told Peyton to catch a bubble in her mouth. No sooner than he said it, she was asleep. That let me be able to sleep. Brandon was in the third row the entire trip, behind me, and fortunately, he did not complain. That left more room for me in the middle with Peyton. I was sleeping, and my head slipped off the headrest. I felt someone pick my head back up, but I was still a bit groggy to figure out what was going on. I opened my eyes, and realized it must be coming from the third row, but again, was too drowsy. At our lunch stop, a DDD place the dads found, I asked Brandon if he’d put my head back. He grinned and nodded. I thanked him for being so sweet 🙂  After we were full from lunch, the kids and I went down again for a nap. Peyton and I had two naps each! That hasn’t happened since she was a baby! Brandon slept for awhile, too, so that made the drive easier. We did hit a spot of traffic, closer to home, so with a detour, we were at my dad’s by 245pm. We were home for the football game with 10 minutes to spare. I started on the laundry, while both kids took a bathroom. Both kids weren’t interested in the game, but agreed to a movie upstairs. As usual, Peyton didn’t stay long, and headed down to us. She just wanted to read, so I signed her in to the online reading program while I delayed my blogging. After the game, we headed out to ramen, then for a quick stop to Target, where Dave ran into Robert et al. We got the kids in bed, and neither has come out. Our streak from our last vacation continues!
