Compassionate Peyton

Yesterday, Connor broke down crying when he was told there was no ice cream. Bonnie was consoling him, and Peyton went over to him and said, “CONNOR! CONNOR! Look, I have jeans, just like you!” I thought it was a random comment, but I think she was trying to distract him from being so sad! I don’t know if it worked all that well, but he quickly recovered. All commented how much more she was talking since she was on her home turf. She was also very helpful with Colby’s hand sock, as it had come off. She did stay close by while I gave him the bottle, but she declined holding it for him.

Christmas Dinner

Even though we saw each other for Michelle’s birthday on Friday, we had the whole gang over for an early Christmas dinner. Some will be out of town in the next week, so we wanted to celebrate early and exchange gifts for the kids. Dave started cooking the meat early this morning, but the meat was cooking faster than anticipated. The kids were excited all day long at the prospect of having guests over. The Brown’s were the first to arrive, followed by the Chang’s, then the Kao’s minus Ted who went back home to get gifts, though it wasn’t necessary since we see each other frequently anyway. We made our spare room kid friendly, pushing the bed up against the closet to make it more like a day bed. We took the rest of the stuff in there away and stored it in the garage. The kids were watching a movie in the room, then as soon as Mckayla got here, she and Peyton disappeared into Peyton’s room. Soon, there were kids all over the place! I was just hoping for no injuries and no major arguments, and I think we achieved that! We had an extended dining room, to accommodate 17 people (well, two babies, but still, they count, too!). Peyton and Mckayla were seated next to each other, and they were the first ones to arrive at the table as Dave was cutting meat. Everyone else filtered in, but they were deep in conversation. Both were a bit distracted by the dinner time conversation, but Peyton managed to eat what I’d given her. I think she is fond of steak. Mckayla finished since she was informed of something special we’d be having after dinner; something I told her I’d made especially for them. One by one, kids left the table, leaving their parents in awe that they were self-sufficient, and hoping not to hear any crying. After the dinner dishes were cleaned up, I set up the gingerbread people and ginger-princess crowns for the girls. Bonnie had brought pretzel sticks, Julie some gummy fruit, and I laid out dark chocolate chips, cheerios and cranberries. No hard core candy which I was okay with 🙂 Once the frosting bags were cut, it took the kids about 5 minutes to decorate and then proceed to eat the craft.  Brandon licked the frosting and said, “Does this have almond in it?”  I indeed put almond extract in it for flavor, which was really the only other ingredient of any flavor (water, powdered sugar, and meringue powder).  The frosting was supposed to harden, but they got it in their mouths so quickly, that never happened.  As they were wrapping up, we put on Polar Express for a festive movie for the kids. They gathered around, while we got to work on the adult dessert. Dave had made coffee and Bonnie cut up her creation.  Brandon caught word that there was cake and wanted in, too, but I told him he’d already had his gingerbread, so he was done.  I’d already lifted the ban on dessert after he successfully avoided it from Tuesday to Friday night.  Soon, everyone had packed up and headed out. I had to explain what “Guest” versus “Host” was to Brandon as I was convincing him to share his toys. He said, “You mean, like I OWN this place?” pointing down to the floor.  I told him he lived here, and left it at that.  He was taking that a little too far! After everyone left,  I went up to Peyton’s room, and she told me, “The children made a mess in my room.”  I told her that’s why it was important for her to help clean up when she goes to other people’s houses, and since she played, too, she was going to have to clean up.  Brandon decided to take a bath first, which let Peyton and me clean up the room.  By the time he was done with the bath, we’d put all her food back in her kitchen, and tidied up all the books.  She was a great helper!  After we were done, Brandon had finished up, and I took her to take her bath.  Dave finished cleaning up downstairs then met us upstairs.  Both were in their respective beds, but awaiting floss/fluoride.  I got my lunch ready for tomorrow with the leftovers.  I’m actually looking forward to it 🙂

We’ll be headed up separately tomorrow, and I’m hoping it won’t be too wet!  here are the pics:

Scout!

While I was out with my family earlier in the day, Dave told me there was a new hamburger chain restaurant headed to my hometown. He said Peyton read the sign that was erected, “Five Guys.” My dad was so excited to hear it would be just 5 minutes away! I told him it was bad news for him, and he should set a limit on how frequently he should go there.
Brandon wrote a note to Peyton and left it outside his room, with his door closed:
“Do Not Disturb Me! And I mean it!!!!” Shoofly!
Sheesh. Meanwhile, I sent Peyton to make her bed while I was putting my own clothes away. It had been about 10 minutes, and it was very quiet, which is usually not a very good sign. I looked in on her, and she was meticulously putting each layer of blanket down, carefully smoothing it out, and placing all her stuffed animals up on the bed. I did some more cleaning up, and came back when she said she was all done. She even slept on top of her blankets for nap, so she could keep her bed nice and neat. Usually, we don’t have time in the mornings, and they just roll out of bed and change, so it was nice to have it tidied up for a bit! She is very excited to have our friends over for dinner tonight.

Funday; Dwarves

Today, I went to work early. I was there at 730am, having already dropped both kids off. I figure we’ll be off with them for two weeks, so a little extra time at school won’t hurt ’em. I went to work, had a semi-usual day, then left early to attend Peyton’s Christmas gift exchange and party. It was at 345pm. Brandon was instructed to go to CDC, and Dave would pick him up and meet us at Peyton’s. I got there early, and the kids were watching a video while the teachers were setting up. Peyton ran over to me thinking she was leaving. I packed up her stuff, then had her sit back down with her friends. The kids were instructed to line up and sing some songs for the parents. She was upset somehow, and she did not want to participate. They started with the 12 days of Christmas, which she had been practicing. She likes the Muppet version a lot, especially Miss Piggy’s five golden rings! But she was a grump throughout the whole thing, and nothing the teachers could do to get her out of her funk. She was even crying through part of another song. Actually, a few of the kids were crying. Weird, since she was fine at the big performance, and this was just in their classroom. Dave and Brandon arrived by the last song. Then the gift exchange was underway. Peyton got a gift from Olivia. She agreed to wait until Christmas to open it. The kids then went to the table, where a slice of pizza was awaiting them. Peyton told us she didn’t want it, but just wanted her yogurt. Brandon was still banned from desserts after sneaking candy on Tuesday, despite me telling him no. He was sent next door to Ms Tarez for some fruit ,with instructions again to not eat the sweets. He agreed. He came back shortly, since he didn’t know anyone in the other class. We said our goodbyes and happy holidays to the teachers and her friends and their parents. We headed out to FA to go visit Miss Kristina. Ms Diane opened the door for us and we caught up with her for a bit before heading over to Ms Jim’s class. We were informed that Ms Kristina had left early for the day. We still brought the presents for both teachers and caught up a bit with Ms Jim’s class. The classroom was so quiet, as the kids were in their jammies eating snack. Our kids were trying to play with the toys that were already cleaned up and put away for another time, so we reminded them to leave them alone. Knowing we had to get to dinner, we headed out. We left Dave’s car in front of the school to consolidate cars, knowing there was traffic and what not. It took almost 25 minutes to get to our destination. We arrived just as the Brown’s did, who were just behind the Kao’s. We got situated, and Mckayla and Peyton found each other and sat down together. Brandon ended up with Logan, who had some lego figures that they were playing with together. Peyton ended up right across from Logan AND Connor, and was trying to get their attention with the sheets I’d brought for her to color. Connor wasn’t as interested as Peyton might have hoped, but she did play nicely with Mckayla. What are actually The Disadvantages of Working with These products? They put their orders in too, and we all settled in. Dinner was VERY yummy, and Dave and I ended up ordering the same thing, even though we were separated and had no clue what the other was ordering. He ordered half of the crab salad, which I did not, but the poke was the same. Brandon had salmon teriyaki, while Peyton had chicken and ate about half. Brandon ate the other portion that Peyton did not. She ate all her broccoli, so I couldn’t complain. She still isn’t a big meat eater, but did eat the portion that I’d given her. She devoured her orange, and only the rind was left. Dessert for the birthday girl was brought out, then shared amongst the families. Dave was kind and gave Peyton and me the majority of our family’s share. Brandon looked at me longingly, but did not put up a fuss when I told him about his consequence. We then headed over to Theresa’s house for the after party. Well, they were having a party for Rita’s birthday. It was a very full house, but somehow it worked! The kids were confined in the TV room and they were all being silly. I think they all had the chocolate brownie at dinner, except Brandon, and he was the calmest of them all! He was tired from a long day at school, and was content to watch someone play a handheld gaming device, while the other kids were working out their energy and sugar high. Luckily there were no injuries, but Ms Peyton did bonk her head on the corner of the table, with a hushed reaction from all the parents. She quickly bounced back, crawled over to me, and maintained composure. It HAD to have hurt, but she gave no indication that she was in pain. She has scar tissue all over her head from all bumps she’s received over her 3.95 years. But it was enough for her to slow down a little bit, and make an example of her for the other kids. Before we could do any damage to the furniture, we were ready to sing to the guests of honor over cupcakes. Brandon again had to be excused, and again, didn’t really put up much of a fight. He compromised and asked if he could have a slice of garlic toast. I agreed to that, even though the other party-goers had not yet eaten! I took off the frosting and gave the cake to Peyton. I watched as Logan meticulously licked the frosting off his first, prompting an “Ai-ya!” from Stuart 😉 Soon after, we all parted ways so we could get the kids off to bed. We made it home, then we realized we’d forgotten Dave’s car at FA!!! AHHHH….Brandon said he just wanted to go home and go to sleep. Peyton was talking all about riddling the rides at Disneyland, singing songs, and talking his ear off. He even said, “I wish Peyton wasn’t my sister.” Peyton then took offense, and said, “That’s not nice, Brandon! Mommy, that’s not nice.” He said, “Well, she’s talking when I want to listen to Mr Grinch!” Peyton knows pieces of carols now, and is getting good at “Christmas name that tune”. “O Holy Night” she calls “The song we heard at Bethlehem (the night we went to the play)”. When she heard Josh Grobin’s version, she said, “Oh, it’s a boy singing now,” since it was a woman who sang it at Bethlehem. She will also start with “It’s Christmas once again in San Francisco,” and “Walking in a winter wonderland”. She doesn’t know the rest of the words, but just starts that and sings it over and over. While walking to the restaurant, she was singing the winter wonderland song, and a lady walking by smiled at her. Peyton was oblivious! Just in her own world, singing.

We were naming dwarves again, and she got stuck on the last two – Sleepy and Bashful. I didn’t expect her to get Bashful, but I was trying to give her hints on Sleepy. So I fake yawned, and she said, “Yawny?” I laughed, immediately thinking of the entertainer Yanni, as my mom has a ton of his albums. I finally gave it to her, since she wasn’t getting it.

Sleeping Update

So the taking away of the radio and having Red Roy stay put worked! Brandon’s instructions were to stay in his room quietly until I went to go get him. I had taken his radio away since he woke Peyton up yesterday morning. It worked! Both kids stayed in their rooms all night long. One stayed dry all night long, while the other had an accident in bed. Unfortunately, it was the older one who wet the bed, while the younger kept her diaper dry. Tomorrow, I will work a longer day, to finish up a project I started, then we’ll have Peyton’s class party, along with a trip to FA to visit Miss Kiss-tina and Miss Jim! Then we will help Michelle celebrate her birthday for dinner! Another full but fun-filled day (besides work, that is).

No Travel

Sadly, Red Roy did not travel back to Santa last night.  I think he, like us, were fed up with the pitter patter of little feet after lights were out.  So when the kids saw that Red Roy had not moved from his perch in our blinds, and I warned them about their behavior, they did not put up much argument or discussion.  I did tell them that maybe if In the bottom line-Overall the penis pump results are very good that has come forward so far comparatively to surgical operations and cheap cialis pills. Chivering; Girly

Chiver (v): to shiver, according to Peyton. This morning, when we dropped Brandon off, it was 35 degrees outside. Peyton had two layers, and since our car wasn’t the first one by CDC, I got her out. While we were going back to the car, she told me, “It’s so cold, I’m chivering!”
This morning, knowing it would be cold, I layered Peyton with a grey thermal top that used to belong to Brandon.
