Just Wow.

I went in to give Peyton her medicine tonight. She always gets a little nutty after having sugar at night, and tonight was no different. She was still singing and talking to herself by 10 pm! That is unheard of for her. School didn’t give her her medicine today at 3pm as they were supposed to, so she didn’t get it until around 5pm. I was waiting until I went to sleep around 11 pm to give it, though it’s still a bit early (no sense in both of us having to wake up in the middle of the night to take it!) I went into her room, and saw this:

Clearly, I had to go back and get my phone/camera to capture it before waking her up.
I was thinking of the captions on my way to get the phone:

Gingerbread Party

I woke up early (no snoozing), and headed off to work.  I clocked in right at 7 am.  Dave was left on his own to deal with the kids. He pleaded with me to take Peyton, but at 630 am, she was a hot mess and told me, “I don’t want to change my clothes.”  She had amnesia from yesterday, since she told me we didn’t give her her pink medicine. I told her that we woke her up in the middle of the night to give it, but she didn’t remember.  In fact, she refused the medicine from Dave, and it was only after I went into her room, when I found both Dave and Peyton both lying there lifeless, that I gave her the medication.  I left before noon to go to Brandon’s school.  I was there early to help set up, and then the teacher asked me to go pop popcorn in the office.  I was a little nervous, since I’d never been back there, and parents were supposedly not allowed.  She gave me her keys to get in the backdoor, and I dutifully went to pop corn.  Luckily, I didn’t burn it, and I brought 3 bags back.  By then, the kids had come in from lunch.  They all sat nicely at their tables and awaited directions.  They were instructed to wash hands, and then get started on decorating.  Unlike last year, the kids did a great job of not eating while they were making.  Even my kid!  Though he knew he had a ban on dessert, and he followed through.  He snuck candy last week from his house, so he had one more day on probation.  I gave him a little space, but helped out when needed.  He worked on it for awhile, then one by one, when they finished up, they brought their men over to be wrapped up.  Then, they were allowed to go play games.  The parents had set up some carnival-style games.  There was a cotton ball race, with the kids having to move the cotton ball by blowing through a straw.  After a few rounds, Brandon came over to me and said he ran out of air.  There were crafts, which each of the kids did on their own. Brandon needed help with the double-sided tape, but when he figured it out, he went to help his friends.  It was nice to see Brandon helping his friends without being asked.  After the games were all done, the kids came over to the food table. I asked them to wash hands again, and then have a seat.  The parents helped distribute the pre-prepared plates of food – grapes, tomatoes, pretzels, popcorn, and a Cutie.  Great snacks for a party like this!  There was juice, too, but I saw from across the room that Brandon shook his head at the parent offering it to him. I know it was hard for him, but he did it!  After the snacks were done, I took Brandon’s gingerbread man and extra bag of candy and headed back to work.  He wasn’t upset in the least bit!  The gingerbread man was so fragrant in my car.  The classmom had gotten them from a bakery, so it was the food that had been handled the least.  When I got home, I brought it in. Brandon was so excited to be re-united with the cookie.  I told him the ban was over a day early for good behavior today.  He was excited to eat it, but I told him he had to scrape off the frosting and candy and eat “clean” candy.  He didn’t mind, and enjoyed his candy cane and 1/3 of the man.  Peyton was able to eat half of hers from when the girls came over.  One more day of school, then we’re free for 2 weeks!

Harold; His Turn

Today, I took Peyton early to school so that I could get an early start to work. I left at 950 am to get to Brandon’s school play. They were having an “informal” performance, culminating in 6 weeks’ worth of performing arts. They have 30 minutes per week, and this was the last class. The teacher didn’t want to make it a big deal, but Brandon had been asking if we were going to be able to watch it. I didn’t want to let him down! I arrived about 10 minutes before, and the kids were still in recess. I saw a few of Brandon’s friends, and I had to ask them what time recess was over. I’d already signed in to the office, so I was ready to go. After the bell rang, the performing arts teacher invited the parents to come in and have a seat. There were quite a few of us, at least a dozen or more. We took a seat on the chairs, while the students filed in nicely. They all did a great job listening to the teacher. The teacher introduced what the students were going to do, then invited the first group up. I asked Brandon what part he was. His response was, “I’m #18.” It turns out that the teacher was narrating the story, while the kids acted out their parts. I started to film when Brandon’s group went up. Just to preface, today was Jammie day, but it was okay because the main character, Harold, (Harold and the Purple Crayon) was in jammies, too, as it was night time. I could tell Brandon looked a little nervous, but I think he did a great job! It’s funny when he’s trying to put on a sad face because he’s usually one of the smiliest kids around! So acting out being sad is a bit hard for him, especially when he’s nervous. After “play” was over, the teacher explained that the students had been working on tableau, improv, and pantomime. They did a few games demonstrating those elements of performing arts, then ended their performance with a bow. I rushed out to make it back to work. I ended up being gone for about 1.5 hours. I ended up picking Brandon up from school. He had something on his face, and when I asked him about it, he told me he’d gotten hit in the face. When I asked again, suggesting it looked like lipstick, he told me, “Megan kissed me.” Megan is his friend Rohan’s little sister, one year younger than they. I think he knew he couldn’t get away with it. I asked him why she kissed him, and he responded, non-nonchalantly, “Because she likes me.” Um, okay.
When I got home, Peyton and Dave were right behind us. Today is spelling words day, and he’d gotten to them on Monday before we could dictate to him. But this time, Peyton took his words and read it aloud to him. He didn’t want her to at first, but I told him that she’s practicing to be a teacher. So he let her read them, and he did waterfall words, starting with the first letter, and then building with the next letter, and next until the whole word is spelled out. After he was done, since dinner wasn’t done yet, I charged Peyton with correcting his paper. She took it very seriously, telling him, “NO, you didn’t spell dollar right! It’s D-O-L-L-A-R, not E-R!!” She gave his paper back to him to correct. She was able to catch his mistakes, and she also demanded better penmanship with another word that she couldn’t read because it was too sloppy.  Tomorrow will be much of the same, as I am going to attend Brandon’s class’ gingerbread-making party.  I’m there to help supervise the candy-eating, though Brandon knows he is in a dessert ban, and even told his teacher that he couldn’t have candy.  There are supposedly going to be other snacks that he can partake, but that remains to be seen.  I’m looking forward to playing games and hanging out with the kids for a little bit.

Dosed

Last night, we sent Peyton to bed then realized we hadn’t given her her second dose.  Dave had wanted to give it to her when she woke up to go potty, but I’d told him that she already did.  Instead of waking her when we realized, at 9 pm, we waited a bit longer. School didn’t give the medicine until about 3 pm, so technically, she’d be due at 11 pm.  So, we watched a movie, then I went to wake her up while Dave brought the doser in.  I nuzzled her, and she startled awake.  I told her it was time to take her medicine, and surprisingly, she Therefore, many men prefer going into hiding and not tell anyone about his condition at all which can worsen the problem as possible.2. viagra 100mg tablets Let’s wholesale cialis price look at the science – ED has contributed 20% to relationship breakdowns. Owie

I got Peyton home before Dave and Brandon. We were working on our puzzle for awhile, then she asked me, “Do you want to see my toe?” She proceeded to pull her sock off and showed me this pus blister on her big toe. I shrieked and told her we needed to go see the doctor to fix it. She bites her toes, and I’ve warned her about infection, but that doesn’t stop her. She started to sob a little bit, and she was whining when I squeezed it. So here it was. An infected toe. I was going to take a picture of it and send it to her doctor. I decided then to get her into the bath and clean it up. By the time we were done, Dave and Brandon had gotten home. Brandon was banned from Pokemon cards because he took a card from one boy to give it to another, much like his bracelet thing with Joelle. He was in the process of telling the site supervisor what happened when Dave walked in. Dave was only 15 minutes later than normal, and Brandon couldn’t keep it together! Anyway, I told Peyton to show Dave her toe. He saw it, and immediately told her she was going in to the doctor. Dave told me to take her, but I kept quiet. He went to go get her street clothes, while she started bawling. I kept quiet, since I didn’t want to take her in. I thought we could wait until Friday, when she is due for her 5th birthday check up. He was serious, and he told her he was going to take her in her jammies or her pants. She did change her clothes, and sulked out with dinner in hand in a bowl. As she was leaving, she turned to me and said, “Bye, Mommy.”  She left wearing her pink beanie, fleece jammie top, and her regular pants.  She looked like the Fat Albert character with the beanie down low.  I could barely see her eyes.  I had a quiet dinner with Brandon, who seemed concerned. He told me he didn’t want to see Peyton when she got back. He was concerned about seeing a bloody toe, or no toe at all. They got home while we were reading. I told Brandon that Peyton’s toe was cut off. Brandon said, “Really?” Peyton said, “Yeap, they cut it off.” I’m not sure if she was trying to gross Brandon out, or if she was just saying they cut the owie off. I asked her what happened. She said, “First they put the fake blood on.” I stopped her, and said, “Fake blood?” Dave said, “Iodine.” OH. Then they proceeded to tell me how they lanced the owie. I asked, “Without anesthetic?” Dave said, “Nothing. A needle.” I asked, “Did she cry?” Dave and Peyton both said, “Nope.” She cried when I squeezed it a little, but didn’t cry when someone put a needle in it?! Yikes. She was given a bandage and some antibiotic cream. Dave said she didn’t talk to the nurse, but she answered the doctor. I asked Dave, “Really? She asked to see credentials before giving up information?!” Dave just thinks she was warmed up by the time the doctor came in. She was asking questions about whether she had a brother or sister, and how old she was. She came home limping, though she wasn’t limping when she left. Now we have to find a way to give her antibiotics three times per day. Hopefully this will be a lesson to them both to keep their hands and feet out of their mouths!

Party, Party, Party

The parties started with Peyton’s friend, Misha, celebrating her 5th birthday.  We got there early, so Peyton could acclimate.  She was happy to give Misha her present, and Misha was even happier!  Peyton did wish her a happy birthday as we practiced 🙂  We headed inside, and Peyton sat right next to Misha, and wanted to do the same craft, coloring, just like Misha.  Then, she wanted to color the same colors as Misha.  Like SWF!  Each chair at the small kids’ table had a set of fairy wings.  Peyton wanted the purple ones, which was perfect, since the chair next to Misha had purple ones.  Misha’s mom was very thematic with the food and decorations!  She had toadstools (string cheese topped with tomatoes), wands (fruit skewers), twigs and nuts (pretzels and nuts), and fairy cakes (mini Sprinkles cupcakes).  There were drinks for the adults, too – sangria, beer, and Irish coffee (I got decaf, and it was delicious).   Sapphire, the fairy, arrived about 30 minutes into the party.  By this time, Neha and Sydney had also arrived with their moms.  The girls all had a great time coloring and getting tattoos.  Later, Sapphire made the girls balloon art.  Peyton was one of the few girls who wanted to eat.  She had a few fruit skewers, the cheese stick without tomato, and a few pretzels and nuts.  She ate one egg roll (not themed), and then a few more pieces of fruit before returning to get her balloon.  The party was taken outside for a magic show.  Sapphire had some puppets, but Peyton was convinced they were real!  She even told my mom that there was a real mouse and dog at the show!  While outside, we sang the birthday song and then cake was passed around.  Peyton ate hers, but I passed knowing I’d have more food opportunities later in the evening.  We were one of the first to leave, even though the party was almost 3 hours long.  I softened the blow by telling Peyton we had to go to see Grandma.  She got moving, said goodbye to both parents and the birthday girl.  We went home, and Dave had already packed up the kids’ stuff. I showered, then got ready for Dave’s company’s party.  Peyton changed out of her party clothes, then we headed to my parents’ to drop the kids off.  We went back to the restaurant, and Dave started to set up.  I helped a little with the tent cards and their placement.  The guests started to arrive about an hour later.  I was excited to eat apps, since Dave had been raving about them.  The entertainment, a magician and his wife, a balloon artist arrived.  They were both excellent entertainers, with the magician stealing the bouncer’s phone right out of his pocket without him knowing.  The balloonist made us some stuff to take home to the kids.  The food was excellent, and we were all stuffed.  Dave was happy with the wine selection, and he was happy the event went off without a hitch.  He treats these things like his wedding, with all the planning and coordination.  He works with his “work wife” Kathy, and they even talk to each other how Dave and I talk to each other at home, bickering back and forth about the party details.  So, we got to commiserate over dinner to the delight of our table-mates, who all know Dave well, too.   We almost closed the party down, leaving only a handful of people there.  We got home to the kids, who were asleep already and caught up with my mom.  When I snuggled in with Peyton, she grabbed my pinky in her hand and squeezed.  I told her, “It’s Mommy.”  She said, “I know,” then started to snore!  Poor thing was exhausted as they got to stay up until 930 pm watching the re-run of “Sound of Music.” Both kids love the songs, and I think Peyton will sit through that movie more-so than the cartoon movies we’d seen lately.  My mom told both kids to stay asleep until 8 am.  Peyton did it by sleeping through, while Brandon woke up and had to be contained by Dave.  At 8:01 am, he headed upstairs and thereby awoke Peyton.  The kids ate some breakfast, but I didn’t want to eat much, as we were having lunch at my dad’s holiday party.  This would conclude our holiday parties!  We headed to GGF for a day at the horse races.  We’ve done this in the past, and it’s a lot of fun.  Peyton was looking forward to it, though my mom had to tell her she wasn’t riding them.  The food was pretty good, with 3 salads, and a carving station. Peyton ate her full slice of prime rib, while Brandon, who has declared he doesn’t like red meat, ate 3 large pieces of chicken, in addition to his salad and veggies.  Dave bet on some of the races, and at the fourth, we headed down with our escort to take a picture with the winning jockey.  He shook the kids’ hands, then he posed with us for a photo. We couldn’t taken photos of our own, because they are selling us the photo, after giving us one free (my mom wanted copies for all of us).  We headed back upstairs, and then we did the gift exchange.  I was the first to pick, and I was trying to strategize to see how I could game the system to avoid having my gift be stolen, yet come home with something decent.  I ended up doing just that by selecting a make-up product, cutting out half of the potential steals with the men not stealing my object.  Dave got an amazon gift card, which is perfect for him!  We stayed until the final race, and all 6 of us came home together.  We just dropped the parents off, then headed home. It was so late by this time, but the kids were still hungry for dinner.  I was not.  They’re definitely Dave’s kids.  We stopped by for sandwiches, and then headed home to eat.  We were still able to get them down around 730 pm, and surprisingly, they went to sleep.  They’d slept all the way home in the car, so I didn’t think they’d sleep easily tonight, but they’ve had a long weekend (as have we!)  One more week until vacation freedom!  Here are the pictures from today:

The balloon artist made a ring of Beast’s rose.  It was pretty amazing, and there was a deflated balloon used as the rose itself.  Peyton appreciated it. Too bad one of Dave’s higher up’s wife stole our Ariel that we had for her.  It was sitting on my stuff, and they had been eyeing it all night long.  Instead of asking for one of her own, she took mine when we left our downstairs spot 🙁

Our day; Fire Safety

I picked Brandon up, and we went to his doctor’s appointment.  The doctor wanted to check up on his growth, and he’s doing a lot better now!  His weight’s up 6# in one year, and normally it’s 2-5 # per year.  Since he was low last time, the weight gain is now steady in the 66.1% range, while his height is 53″, which according to one site is 90%ile.  According to one calculator, Brandon’s BMI is now 25%.  So, he’s still tall and lean, but at least the BMI is back on track.  We went to Costco, then headed over to pick Peyton up.  When we came home, I asked Peyton to pick out a puzzle.  She picked the 500-piece one, but she asked Brandon and me to help her.  Brandon said he didn’t want to help out because she gets bossy and says, “That’s not where it goes!”  Brandon started out a little bit, then disappeared to his room to read his Pokemon cards.  After awhile, Peyton told Brandon to come take a look.  He wasn’t impressed, but he did stay around to help out a little.  Then, he heard what he was dreading, “Mommy, that’s not where it goes!”  He was totally right.  He even said, “See!  She said it!”  I told him that she was talking to me, but he didn’t care.  He took off again, then came to play with his cars by us.  It was getting darker by now, and he didn’t want to stay upstairs alone, I suspect.  Pretty soon, Dave came home, and Brandon immediately asked him what there was for dinner.  They know.  I’d only given them a snack – of almonds and some dried cherries.  He did deliver as he brought some crepes home from work.  Yay!  After dinner, we headed out to donate the toys the kids picked out.

We went back to our old firehouse to give our presents for those in need. Last year, we just went inside and dropped them off. However, this year, after the first firefighter, Joe, came out, he asked if we’d like a tour! So, all four of us headed back to the garage to see the engine. The truck was off training, so Joe and another firefighter, Matt, came out to talk to us. I felt like a kid, asking so many questions of them, since we know no fire people otherwise. I asked about the pole (and there’s a department that has a slide), but most of the older guys just take the stairs. Who knew?! Brandon was excited, and he enjoyed going into the engine and also putting on the clothes. Peyton, not so much. She didn’t put on the hat OR the jacket. They both accepted their stickers, and said thank you, unprompted. Peyton did respond by answering her name when asked, which is HUGE for her. While we were there, the truck came back. It’s 50 feet long! Brandon and Peyton were shown around by Chris, one of the guys off of that truck, while Dave and I hung out with Matt. Dave was asking questions of how to get into a fire department, since Teddy’s been trying. And he asked about the differences between our own fire department, which cross-trains for police enforcement as well, and their department. We told them all that we lived in the condos, and that we used to use their services when they showed up for fire alarms. We know what it’s like to be awoken in the middle of the night to alarms going off. We even saw Matt’s rack and gear in his room. We asked about cooking, and their shifts – 24 hours on and 24 hours off. While I was writing this, Dave thinks Brandon would make a good firefighter, since he likes to hang out with people. Matt said that it’s a big factor to be able to live with the people and work together. I picture Brandon fighting a fire, and then seeing a squirrel, and that’d be the end of that. Here are the pictures I took:

One Hour of Code

Yesterday,  while I was at the Google home page, I found something about one hour of code.  There was an ad about it with some celebrities and “normal” people.  Today, Michelle told me about an app which I downloaded and was excited to share with the kids. It was basic programming, but in a game format.  I told Brandon about it, and he finished his homework in a hurry.  I remember back in grade school moving a pixel around in circles by using programming on some ancient computer that’s probably in a computer museum now.  My last programming was my senior year in high school, so I was intrigued by the app.  Brandon was, too!  He actually got into it, and with a little help, he was able to get the robot The govt will focus on real estate starts which have increased, especially in the personal industry (up india viagra online by 16% season on year).
