Skating Enthusiast

Yesterday, the kids wanted to go back to the club for the Olympic Happy Hour. We dropped them off at the kids’ club, then Dave and I went to cycle for 20 minutes. I’d already come earlier in the day after work to run, so I tried to take it easier, but I wanted to try to keep up with Dave. Well, I didn’t accomplish either goal. I broke out in a sweat again, and also lost our “race”. After, we picked up the kids and gave them their snack – pesto pasta, while Dave had wine. I know, at the gym, but whatever. Peyton parked herself in front of the skating that was on TV, while Brandon and Dave went out to the other tv’s to watch basketball. Dave was talking him through and “coaching” him while watching. Peyton broke out of her skating trance to ask where the boys were. She went to go see them, but quickly came back to skating. I told her that she could do that, too, if she wanted, but she said, “I might fall down.” Maybe skiing made her afraid to fall down, since she did it so often over the weekend. I told her that even the skaters she was watching have fallen before, but they get up and keep practicing. I’m not sure I convinced her, a she was happy to just watch.

When asked whether she likes swimming or skiing, Peyton responded, “Swimming”.  I think it’s just because she’s better at it, and it takes less effort for her.

Mini Getaway

After our paint class, I came home, and Dave had packed up the car as well as got the kids showered and ready to go.  They were excited to tell me that had shot baskets, and had some exercise.  They were watching the skills competition as part of the All Star NBA weekend.  They’d all eaten, so I  grabbed some leftover dinner from the night before, and we headed out.  The drive was relatively smooth, as the kids fell asleep within a half-hour.  I’d warned them about being quiet so Dave could drive, since they were a bit hyper when I got home.  Dave wanted to stop for some coffee, so he did on the other side of the bay, and then Peyton woke up. She made a potty stop, and then proceeded to talk and sing for the next 30 minutes. I told Dave he woke up the Kraken.   Brandon was completely out, since he hadn’t napped earlier in the day.  Peyton finally did go back to sleep (there’s even a picture of her sleeping with her hands over her ears!)  When we got to my mom’s, they stayed up for a little bit, but Brandon went to sleep first.  Peyton was up until 11 pm before my mom asked her, “Peyton, did you want to go to sleep?”  She said, “Okay!”  We were so surprised, especially when she was asked the question and not told to go to sleep.  I joined her later, while Dave slept with Brandon.  On Sunday, we were trying to avoid the crowds, so Dave did some local touristy things, hitting up a winery with Peyton and my mom while I stayed home with Brandon, who was a bit in trouble for talking back.  I was exercising while he was writing sentences.  Later, they came home, and the kids were switched. It was Peyton’s turn to melt down, and she needed a nap, since she stayed up so late, and then Brandon got to go out and return some birthday duplicates.  They came back, and then we ended up at a brewery.  Dave got his keys taken away at this point, and my mom ended up playing tour guide again.  Dave didn’t mind, but he failed to call “Shotgun” and ended up sitting between the two kids in the back 🙂   We headed home for an early dinner so the kids could get a good night’s rest before the next day’s mountain activities.

We booked Peyton in a ski class for her age group, with a 1:3 ratio, and then Brandon we had to book his snowboarding lessons once we got there.  Their class didn’t start until 1:30 pm, so we got up to the mountain by 11:30, got our rentals, and ate lunch outside.  It wasn’t bad at all, as it was sunny.  After sitting around for what seemed forever, it was finally lesson time!  We dropped Brandon off first, and he was in a group with 11 other kids, with one instructor, while Peyton’s ratio was what was advertised.  She was very shy while we were still there, so we decided to check out so she wouldn’t see us there.  Her class was about 12 as well, but there were more instructors.  Half the kids were girls, as she was hoping she wasn’t with all boys.  She didn’t really talk to anyone while we were there.  The boys were all rowdy, throwing snow balls all over the place.  Brandon made friends right away, but that meant he was more distracted, especially since the group was so big.  We split our time between the two kids, and finally, they both ended up on the “magic” carpet, and up the same hill.  One group went down to the left, the other to the right.  So Dave parked himself on Brandon’s side, while I watched Peyton.  Peyton saw Brandon, too, while she was on the carpet, and waved to him, shouting, “BRANDON!  HI, BRANDON!”  Luckily, she remained upright on this particular run, as her first time, she went down, and the instructor had to help her stand up. She falls on solid ground with regular shoes, so it wasn’t a shock to me that she may lose her balance in her boots, carrying her skis.  After two hours, we went to get the kids.  Both still had smiles on their faces, and they enjoyed their respective lessons.  We got their reports, and Peyton was ready for level 2, as well as Brandon.  One instructor felt Peyton could have repeated level 1 just to feel more secure, and not struggle in level 2 with those who may be more 2.5, but the other instructor said she had the hang of it.  We did see her on the ground a lot, but she always got back up.  They had tip trainers on her, and toward the end, she was wedging more on her own.  One time, she wedged, but was still going forward.  She leaned her head down, and almost folded in half, ended up stopping with her helmet!  The instructor had to tell her she’s not supposed to stop with her head!   I guess whatever works, but hopefully she learns a more conventional way.  Brandon was in the middle of the pack, just needing more practice.  He went on the chair lift for the first time, and I had had nightmares about this the prior evening.  He wasn’t with an instructor, but with 3 other boys, sitting closest to the right side of the chair, where we had a clear view of him.  Once he went past us, I stopped watching. I didn’t want to see him go all the way up, it was too nerve-wracking!  They had lowered the safety bar, and we’d reviewed with him how to properly sit on the chair. Dave asked Brandon if he wanted to continue to go up the carpet since they still had some time left on his ticket, about an hour.  Much to our surprise, he said he wanted to go back up!  We were all happy to hear, and he still went even though he had to go alone.  He took a few more runs while we got Peyton’s stuff returned and found a warm place inside.  In the two hours that we were watching them, it had gotten pretty cold, as the sun was going down.  Peyton enjoyed her hot cocoa, and soon Dave and Brandon joined us.  Brandon had one, too, and then we headed back down the mountain.  It was only an hour back with traffic, but both kids (and I) passed out.  Peyton had a mini nap on the way up, but those lessons really got to them! Both kids got showered up, and we enjoyed dinner.  We were considering going back up again the next day, but Dave wanted to just “relax” and not push it.

This morning, we got up, and slowly packed our things.  We wanted to go to one of the museums that we’d Groupon’d, but it wasn’t open on Tuesdays.  We went to plan B, with another museum that we’d bought discounted tickets.  Our drive back was uneventful, but neither kid slept.  I was hoping to have Peyton sleep so she could last longer at the museum.  We only had one pair of tickets, since Dave had only planned somehow to take Brandon for the Star Wars exhibit, so we made a stop to buy another discounted ticket before heading to the museum.  Once we got home, we parked one car, and took another to make the most of our day.  We’d unpack later.  The kids enjoyed both sides of the exhibit, but they didn’t last too long on any one of the Star Wars exhibits.  They did try out most of the experiments, but they didn’t listen to the full details of the costumes and vehicles.  Both were mesmerized by bionic body parts!  We headed over to the regular side of the museum, and Brandon got to be a “scientist” and transform jellyfish DNA into bacteria, then plate it.  It has to incubate for 24 hours, then we can log in and see if he grew anything out.  There were step by step instructions, which he was able to follow with help from the other three of us.  I’m excited to see how it turns out!  Hopefully he has more of Dave’s scientific prowess than mine 🙂   We wrapped up our exhibits since we had a meter to worry about, and then headed in search of a bite to eat.  We got in to happy hour at the Square, so we sat outside with some drinks at a “raw” bar.  We shared some oysters, and I told him the “last time” I’d had them, I enjoyed it with Tabasco sauce.  He asked me, “When’s the last time you had oysters?!”  I told him at the last GNO 😉  because he said he didn’t remember me eating oysters with him recently.  The kids ate fondue (I think this is their first time) and CA rolls.  We also had another roll, and some raw fish tacos, which were yummy.  I couldn’t finish my drink, so Dave helped me.  We walked around a bit, then we went home to unpack.  I unpacked and started some laundry, while the kids and Dave shot some baskets and hit some baseballs.  It was at this time we were debating whether to gym or not.  Brandon was super excited to go to the club, so he kept asking us if we were going.  Dave didn’t want to, and I didn’t want to go unless we were all going together, which was the point of the membership.  Finally, we got our acts together, and we headed out.  Peyton came in and said, “I did two sports today!”  She was carrying her baseball helmet, totally ready for the season to start.  We dropped them off at the club, and they happily went.  The kids were playing wall ball in there, so both kids jumped right in with some balls of their own.  They were happy to be there, so Dave and I headed to the treadmills.  Tomorrow is a half-day of work for some interviews, and the kids will be back at their respective schools for “camp” like activities.

Gym Preview

We’d checked out a new gym last weekend before Brandon’s birthday movie, and this weekend, we went to a different location that is it’s sister property.  I wanted to get a family membership with pool access, since we’re getting more serious with the swim lessons.  I want the kids to have a place to practice what they are learning.  The sister property has this, as well as a basketball gym (and badminton, yay!) that Dave can use.  After swim class, we headed over to our appointment for the tour.  But, the guide was not yet available as he was with another prospective client.  We ended up running into a family from FA, and that Bonnie regularly hangs out with. I’d recognized the dad, and then the mom and I exchanged looks trying to place each others’ faces.  We got their perspective, as they’d recently joined for the pool facilities, and are in the same situation as we are in that they are closer to the newer gym, too, but come to the sister property for the swimming.  The girls were already in the pool, so they were getting their use of it.  After we said our goodbyes to the family, we gave the kids a snack of hummus, cucumbers, carrots and celery.  Our guide came over just as the kids were finishing up.  Of course, Peyton hadn’t finished, but we took hers to go.  We toured the property, and the kids loved the play structure and “tested” it out.  We took the tour with both kids, and saw a few other moms from school and baseball.  Peyton and I checked out the women’s locker room, while levitra online usa On the contrary it’s an extremely potent anti-aging superfood. Swim Lessons

Instead of our usual recreation classes that happen just in summer time, I decided to enroll the kids in a semi-private lesson based on a recommendation from a co-worker. I booked the class for this past Saturday, and though it is probably intended for kids who of the same age and ability, I decided to put both kids together. They push each other to do better, as Peyton is more competitive with Brandon in the water based on last year’s summer class they had together. I did write a note to the instructor to explain their temperaments, hoping to give her a little insight prior to the lesson. We arrived 10 minutes early as instructed, but that just meant standing around for 10 minutes until the instructor was ready. Once it was their turn, both kids followed Sarah into the pool. I never told her what they could do, so she assessed them by playing some games with them. She threw some rings in the pool, and both kids dove in to get them. Interestingly enough, there was another semi-private class of two adults who were getting over their fear of water, and were having a hard time submerging their faces in the water. Sarah then had them blow bubbles under water, and then had them push off the wall and went right into kicks and big arms. She had them do a hand sandwich, and pulled them through the water. The adults looked at the kids and one said, “Oh look at them! If they can do it, we can do it!” Their instructor told them that this wasn’t their first time “here” (though it was), and that they’d done this many times (true, they had). There was a dive class that was just finishing up, too, as they were submerged while we were waiting for our class. Both kids were antsy while the other was with the instructor. Both stepped off the steps, and we had to remind them to go back. For Brandon, it’s not a problem because he’s tall enough, but for Peyton, after the last step, she is submerged. She had to kick her way back to the wall, and we had to watch her closely to make sure she could get there. Fortunately, neither of us had to go fishing, as the other two instructors were busy with their own classes. It’s a very small place, or there aren’t many classes going on at once, so it’s pretty nice. With about 5 minutes to go, both kids started swimming toward the deep end. I’m not sure how it came up, but in any case, both wanted to jump into from the deep end. They took turns jumping for their noodle and then swimming back to the wall. From there, we showered them up, and then headed out. Both kids really enjoyed themselves, and I’ve already booked our next class. We’ll definitely keep it up, but starting in March, the outdoor pool will be open, and we may have more classes there. We then headed over to check out a potential, new gym. More on that…

Painting

We celebrated our January babies with a different event tonight – painting and wine! We had a hard time coordinating dates with specific paintings as that’s how the calendar was set. Our first date, actually in January, was for Chinese New Year’s eve, but unfortunately, it wasn’t good timing. But they offered the same painting tonight, so even though it’s February, we gave it a go. I was very nervous about the event, hoping my painting looked remotely like that of the instructor’s. I arrived super early as I left from our new gym and sat in the parking lot for awhile. I checked in and reserved an area for four of us together. The other participants started to arrive, but no friends. I was worried about being stood up and having to paint alone, but Bonnie, Michelle, and Kathy all arrived right on time. Wine was poured for all (except me) since I didn’t want to make it more of a challenge. We got started on our background painting. My main challenge at this point was making sure I didn’t dip my brush into my drinking water. I’m sure it happens. I did dip my fingers in the paint water mistaking it for my popcorn 🙂 We chatted, painted, and watched paint dry for 3 hours!! It was much less stressful that I imagined and in the end, we all had our own masterpieces to take home! We took pictures and then went home. When I got home, the kids both looked at it. Since it was still drying, I asked them not to touch. Peyton told me, “Wow, Mommy, you’re an artist now!”

(I didn’t realize how small my flowers were until we took our group photo. I’ll have to get a copy from Bonnie.  She’s always good and brings a real camera! Thanks for a fun evening now. We’re up with my mom after a quick drive up for snow tomorrow)

The Call

I came home and Dave told me, “I got the call I’ve been dreading.” I guessed, “You’re fired?!” Dave said, “No, worse.” I’m not sure what is worse than being fired, but dude’s got his priorities, I suppose. So, he said he got the call out for managers for tee-ball. He knew it was just a matter of time, and now, it just got real. He’d been debating since he’d received it, and even went to Coach Tom first before telling me. Tom’s response, “Cool. Three Dodgers teams in the league.” So, from his perspective, as a coach of two different kids’ teams, he assumed Dave would step up to the plate (pun intended). Dave told him, “I don’t have time for this.” Tom said he didn’t either, but it was a great opportunity to spend time with Peyton, and that the kids only are young once, and how quickly it goes by. Yes, all true. During dinner, Dave was hemming and hawing over it, and finally told me, “It’s a done deal.” He showed me his email to the league coordinator, opting in as Coach. Then she responded, “Please give me a list of a few team names you are thinking of.” Dave responded, “I’m only thinking of one.” And then gave her his one and only request. Brandon was having trouble spelling “wear” as in wear my clothes.  He was spelling it “ware”, “weir”, “where”, and “were”.  We finally got frustrated and gave him a hint, “W-E”.  He Sildamax is released as metabolites primarily in the feces (about sildenafil canada 80% of oral dose taken) and to a smaller limit in the urine.
