Today, I was at work from before 8 to about noon. Dave realized how much food we had still, some yet to be cooked, like green beans, salad (extra greens), and cheese Dave had bought. He wanted more help eating it all, so he texted me to get reinforcement. We hadn’t had the Zhang’s over since they came back. I thought initially that we were going to have Jennifer plus two kids, then realized Jonathan was back, too! I’d been texting Bonnie during the day, too, as I figured we could entertain Connor and Logan, too. Everyone agreed, and Dave ended up getting more meat, to feed the kids (and adults) drumsticks. Bonnie was going to bring over pumpkin muffins, while Jennifer suggested fruit, but Dave declined, since we still had lots of fruit, too. Jennifer changed to bringing ice cream! I got home around 1230, with both kids in bed. They were both awake, but on their way out. Brandon asked me, “What are you doing here?” I’d come through the front door to avoid waking anyone up with the garage door. I took a nap, too, and Peyton came down first. The Brown’s were going to come between 3-4, but they texted they would be arriving in 15 minutes right at 3 p. They prompted arrived in the designated timeframe. Brandon played host by offering Bonnie a drink. The boys played with Brandon and Peyton downstairs a bit, but when they went upstairs, Brandon excluded Peyton from his room. Hers was such a sad face…they were playing beyblades, which he just got out again today. I lured her away with the prospect of coloring a bag she’d gotten for her last birthday. She enjoyed doing that with Bonnie and I talking, while the men were outside. Soon, Bonnie lost sight of Stuart, but later found them putting on the side of the house. Later, the boys came downstairs and all the kids ended up outside. Peyton re-joined the group at that time. The kids were playing with the football and golf balls, until there was a minor injury. Ice took care of the situation, and then playing resumed. As this was happening, the Zhang’s rang the doorbell. Jayden was fascinated with the Skylanders, as were the other kids. Jess went to the backyard, and soon after, dinner was served. We just fit outside in the backyard, with the kids telling us that “we needed to sit down at the other end”. The siblings all split into pairs, sitting across the way from one another. It totally just worked out that way. The kids ate pretty well, with all of them having at least a drumstick. Soon, the kids were all back inside with Dave, while the other 5 adults enjoyed a little quieter time. It was getting dark and a bit cooler, so we headed back inside, bringing all the food back in. Dave had the kids watching a movie, but the xbox gave out on us. The kids all turned around at the same time when the movie went on the fritz. Soon, Dave was back to the rescue with TS3. Phew. Crisis averted. Dessert was served, and all got ice cream except Peyton, who was still banned. She handled it quite well, enjoying her grapes as a substitute. Later, I did comment to her how well she handled the situation. She answered, “And??” I did mention aloud that she’d get her pumpkin pie after the turkey trot, as that was why she was running it. After the movie was done, our guests left. The kids headed up for showers, and they were in bed by 745 pm. Despite both having naps earlier in the day, both were out by 8 pm. Looking forward to a short week!
