Independent Steps

I picked the kids up from school, and we all went to Peyton’s piano lesson. As we got settled, Brandon was going to do his homework, but he said he didn’t have his worksheets. He was panicking, and making quite a scene at the piano teacher’s house. He was throwing his stuff around, tossing through his bag and demanding that I take him back to his school. I sit and listen in on Peyton’s class so I know what to help her with. Since we were returning to school for band after piano, I told him we would just have to go later. He didn’t like that answer. So, I told him he had to go back to school himself. He walked out the door. I assumed he knew where to go. Peyton’s lesson went longer, as the teacher owed us some time. Of all the days, her next student wasn’t coming, so she had time. We stayed 10 minutes extra, and had about 7 minutes to get back to school for band. I had Brandon’s clarinet and music in my trunk. As I was gathering our gear, I was getting a phone call. It went to voicemail since my ringer was off. Then I got a text, too. It was the band mom, one of Brandon’s friend’s moms. She had texted me that Brandon was wondering where I was, and that I had his clarinet. And that his teacher was not available. I met up with him, got him settled, and then he asked for his glasses. I asked him to ask one of his friends for the sheets. He asked W, who asked him what happened and why he didn’t have it. Brandon thanked him profusely as I took photos with my phone. I went back to get his glasses, since I’d left them in the car and he asked for them. When I got back, I handed them to him. So, he was all settled, so I decided to stay and see how class went. He did okay, having to play a solo scale as did all the kids. The band mom was saying how frantic Brandon was when she saw him. He was worried about his clarinet, his homework, and my whereabouts. Ugh, even more reason for a phone.

After band, I headed to get his flu shot. He was so nervous. Luckily, there was no line. We walked right up, and he sat down giggling. We had the same nurse as the one who did Peyton and me. He wanted to make sure she didn’t shoot him through the alcohol while it was wet. He asked her to wait a little longer. Then, he started taking deep breaths, and then asked the nurse to pinch him really hard, so it would take his mind off his hurting arm. I told him not to look, and Peyton stood on the other side of him TO look. He kept stalling, and I grabbed his hand and asked him if he wanted me to hold it. His hand was clammy, sticky, and warm. I told him all of those, and he said, “Yeah, because I’m nervous!” He looked at the needle right before she brought it to him and said, “OH MY GOD!” it went in before he knew it, but I thought he may pass out. I thought he’d be a team alert. But he survived. And within a minute, we were done. I went to take him to get his acai cup since Peyton and I had ours on Tuesday. He ordered, and we left when he got his cup. We drove home, and I wanted to see where he had walked. But he couldn’t tell me, so I drove back to the teacher’s house, and he navigated me. He said he walked back toward home, instead of walking toward G’s house! He had gotten turned around and didn’t know where he was.

United family day

After dinner with my family yesterday, Brandon stayed with my parents. We came home with Peyton who was excited to sleep in our bed.

We met my mom and Brandon at Dave’s work in the morning then headed to the family event. My mom volunteered until my dad came after noon. We toured the Dreamliner and Peyton stayed with me for the cockpit tour.  She saw the pilots’ bunk and the cockpit. They just had a change of shift, so we got the woman pilot! I was super happy as she was very friendly and explained to us the inside of the cockpit.  We took some pictures then headed out to meet Dave and Brandon who had gotten lunch for us. My parents met us at our table and then we let them have our seats.  As we were leaving, we saw the Patriots were about to launch. We waited another half an hour before they took off. We sent them off then saw them really take flight in the parking lot.

Both kids fell asleep on the ride home. Brandon woke up and said, “Wow that was a great nap!”  We dropped him off for a playdate and then got Peyton ready for basketball practice. We drove separately so that I could leave to meet Michelle for Julie’s birthday.

I hugged Peyton who came down and went to chat and hug Brandon. He told me about his playdate and had fun. We’ll have to reciprocate some day soon!

Arguments

Dave and I were arguing this morning about something trivial. I don’t even remember what it was. Brandon said, “If you guys argue so much, why don’t you just break up?!”

I looked at him and said, “Oh, we can’t You can check your eligibility for pfizer online viagra by present process a medical verify up from a medical doctor in Russia. Worst mom ever

This is what Brandon calls me.

So when he was asking me the details of how he’d get to the party on Friday, I reminded him of his words. I suggested he walk from school.  He took it quietly. Then he came back to ask about his bag. Told him he had to deal with that, too.  Then he asked about a present. Told him he better ask daddy. Then he asked about how to get home at 8.  I repeated what he said to me and said if I was the “worst mom ever”, then he shouldn’t be asking me.  I was amused and quite calm watching him squirm. He never went to Dave, since he isn’t about details. Finally, he sat next to me and said, “I’m sorry for calling you the ‘worst mom ever’.”  I told him I didn’t want an apology. I wanted for him not to say it again. We’ll see how long this lasts.

Skinned knees

Brandon’s knee has been scraped multiple times and he keeps falling on it. What’s worse is he picks at the scab so one never really forms. I got tired of it and told him if it doesn’t get better we may have to amputate. He was appalled! I told him about bacteria and specifically the flesh eating variety. He said it was getting smelly. Right as we came back from piano, Peyton and Dave were watching para Olympic coverage of basketball. I told Brandon, “Oh look! That’s what you can do when you are without your leg!  But you’re not all that good with two legs. Maybe you’ll be better with a wheelchair.”  I think he stopped picking st it.

Yesterday I brought him some antibiotic cream and more bandages. He said, “Thank you for taking the time to help me.”  It was sweet. I don’t even hel because he’s afraid of me pushing too hard. So he puts his own alcohol in there and also own ointment.

Almost Left!

We had a busy afternoon. I got off at 230 pm, and I went home to get Brandon’s report. I got him from CDC to take him to see the VP. He shared with her what he learned about diversity in his research paper that I’d imposed over the weekend (including bibliography). She appreciated his work, and she acknowledged what information he learned along the way. I walked him back to CDC, and I took Peyton home with me to practice piano and shower her up. We went back to get Brandon after band by 450 pm. He was very responsible, wearing his glasses and had his music all set up. He didn’t want me to take his bag, since he had his pencils and books for band in it. He told me the girl next to him teased him about wearing glasses but he was okay with still wearing them.

We came home, and I fed Peyton dinner, while Brandon finished up some of his lunch. He showered, too, and got his knee cleaned up with the supplies I’d bought at work today. He even thanked me for the time I took to help him with his knee (he put the stuff on himself, but I think he meant the time it took me to get the stuff for him). I took both kids to Peyton’s girl scout meeting by 545 pm. We were one of the first to arrive, and I had Brandon reading his book in the backyard. The problem was the girls were starting to congregate there and play. So he was a bit distracted. I had to have a show down with Peyton in front of her friends, because I didn’t want her on the zipline. Her friends were pleading with her to get down from the ladder so she didn’t have to leave the meeting. She has good friends. I was standing in her way, so she would have had to literally go through me to accomplish what she wanted. She backed down, and soon the meeting started. I left Brandon alone in the backyard and told him I was getting my check book to pay our dues for the year. He asked me if I was leaving, and I told him no. So, he remained back there. I grabbed my check book, and the moms were congregating around the front patio table. We were reviewing dates, while I was keeping an eye out for 630 pm. I was going to leave to go back to school for the PTA board meeting. Another mom was going, too, so I figured we’d leave together. Suddenly, she took off, without a bye or anything. She didn’t know that I was using her as my gauge as to when to leave, so it was no big deal. But, it startled me into action. I quickly followed out the gate before realizing I was forgetting something! I walked back past the moms and called for Brandon in the backyard. He looked up from his book, and then realized what was going on. He quickly followed me. We drove back to school together, close behind the other mom. He wanted me to “race” her, and I told him we’d get to the same place eventually, and that there was no need for a race. We did arrive safely at school, and Dave was waiting for Brandon. He’d gotten home just 20 minutes after I’d left, but he wasn’t sure when he’d make it, so it was safer just bringing Brandon along for the ride. Good thing I didn’t leave him at the meeting, though they were headed back that way soon after to pick up kid #2.

Glad the day is over, and I’m already looking forward to the weekend!!

Party time

Brandon got invited to a birthday party Friday from 3-8. We were excited for him, but more excited for Peyton’s date night. They were rubbing it in, first by Peyton asking us, “Should we go to Stein’s or Eureka?”  We’ve been to both of those places when Brandon has been out with Clay. Small but Mighty!

Peyton is the youngest on her team. There is another girl on her team, a fifth grader, who is a head taller than Brandon, and probably outweighs him by a Peyton. This doesn’t stop her at all. She is lead off batter for her team, and she got a walk in the first at bat. She later went on to steal second and third and her teammate hit her home. The second inning, she got to see the coach pitch to her. Here’s what she did with it:
