Spa treatment

I got home with the kids yesterday and Peyton started right away with piano.  Brandon was finishing up his veggies from lunch. I stayed upstairs with her then came down to get something.  When I did, Brandon had put a cucumber slice on each of his eye sockets. Brandon was looking through the cruise navigators and organizing by dates. Then he reviewed each day one by one and said, “I’m having nostalgia.”  He’s the sentimental one.  He wanted his key to the world card to have as a keepsake as well.

DCL week

We dropped the kids off at school only to pick them right back up on Friday to avoid missing a day. They did spend about 1.5 hours at school, so it wasn’t too bad. We then headed to the airport to catch the first leg of our flight. We didn’t have any problems, and we landed in Denver as expected. We made a pit stop, changed planes, then were off to our final destination. We got in late, but that didn’t stop us (Dave) from eating dinner. We stopped in at Waffle House to eat before heading to our hotel. The bad-eating food began there! We quietly entered our hotel as the Kao’s were sleeping in the bedroom off to the side. They had arranged the beds for the living room for the kids, but we knew better than put two kids in there. Brandon slept outside, while the three of us slept in the king bed. We all got up and headed to port the next morning. The Kaos left first, while Dave finished up a load of laundry first to take with us. We had rented a car, so we stopped to drop it off before being taken by shuttle. We met a family who was headed on the same cruise. We had downloaded an app that would allow us to text each other, look at menus, and see all activities on board. It was great to be able to use our phones to contact each other. Dave, Ted and I were all patched up, while the kids mostly had sea bands. Brandon did without as he was the most sea-faring. Peyton was worried about being sick, so she dutifully wore her pink camo ones from our last cruise. The kids had a great first two days at sea, playing in the pool and on the Aquaduck, which was a big hit. Brandon was a “tween” and could check himself into the big kids’ area if he wanted. He chose mostly to stay with the other kids by the pool, but at one point, he did join in on a dodgeball game, which we all watched, and an impromptu basketball game with some friends he’d made. He was on the younger side for the tweens, so he didn’t feel comfortable going to their events, like the dances, and so forth. We tried to put the kids in the kids’ club, but we got texted from both Marcus and Peyton asking to be picked up. I made it to the gym one day, but then received a text from Ted that Peyton wanted to be picked up. Luckily, Dave went to go get her. The Kaos had port excursions, while we wandered around on our own in both Tortola and St Thomas. The ports were pretty hot, so after sweating it out for about an hour each port, the kids wanted to go back to the Aquaduck and take advantage of no lines. Peyton saw one of the drink hosts, David, from “Jam-i-ca” (Jamaica), and yes, she sounded it out like that. I later saw him and asked if he was at the Kmart where we bought water. He was buying a big luggage and filling it with shoes he’d purchased. He later rolled it back on ship. He was a soft spoken guy, but he got excited when I told him that Peyton had recognized him off shore. He wanted to say hi to her, but she wasn’t around at that time. At one point, we had the kids asleep or nearly asleep in the cabin and we went out to a Stomp-like group that had performed earlier. We came back, and they were sound asleep! We did give them a fair amount of leeway as they had their own keys to the room and could get around the ship fairly well. We all enjoyed the pirate theme and the Star Wars day at sea. They really did it up with the theme, and even had our port hole, which was a fake tv screen-like hole on the wall, lit up with the death star. We had signed up for the 5K on the private island along with a jet ski excursion, but we were late to port as the ship had some turbulence overnight, so the jet skis were cancelled, with the excuse that there were high winds. We took Brandon on the 5K because he was over 10, and Peyton stayed with the Kaos to get off the boat and find a shady spot. They had a snorkeling excursion later on, so we needed to get to her before their snorkeling began. The run was hot, and I got mine over with faster than the boys, who may have done an extra lap down the runway. We met up, and forgot to take a picture, then we went out to find them, which proved more difficult. We saw Ted upon disembarkation, but then we didn’t think to triangulate a spot to find him later. We were hungry, so we thought we’d eat first and then go find them. That put more of a delay in things, but finally, Dave found Mckayla, then came to find us to bring us back. By that time, Ted had taken the girls to go snorkeling way out. He had them an hour out total, he said, and was able to drag each of them other there and back. They didn’t help too much with their own kicking, so he had put a lot of work into it. Marcus had freaked out a bit with Michelle, and knocked her go pro off her arm. So, they were just hanging out, playing with sand close by. Brandon was happy to join in that fun. Later, Ted and Michelle took the girls out again, as Peyton was eager to go. They were holding hands in the water, and trying to talk to each other. Brandon and Marcus were happy to stay by the shore and play with cups of sand and water. Soon, the girls came back, and they offered Dave to go out and take Brandon. Brandon was going to use michelle’s gear, but he was put off by the fact that you have to spit into the mask. He had to wash it off with sea water before being willing enough to put on the mask. Well, in the end, they didn’t last long. As they were walking back down the beach after 20-30 minutes, I asked Brandon how it was. His answer, “I nearly died.” Apparently, he had water that he inhaled, freaked out, and then called it quits. This is in contrast to Peyton initially going out with a non functional snorkel, but hadn’t said anything for quite some time, then had to turn around and go get it exchanged because she was not adequately taking in air. We wrapped up our time on the beach in exchange for a short line on the Aquaduck! We said our goodbyes to Castaway Cay knowing it was our last day before heading back to port the following day. Our cruise ended, then continued in Epcot center after we said goodbye to the Kao’s. They were headed home ,as they hit Epcot on the way in. The kids vaguely remembered some of the Epcot center from our last trip. They definitely remembered Testrack, and they got to trade pins throughout the park. We had a great day, and then headed back to our hotel to watch fireworks from the Magic Kingdom from our balcony. Peyton didn’t want to stay out there long, since it was still pretty loud for her.

We headed home the next day, and everyone was feeling a bit queasy and rocking. We all did well in not getting sea sick while we were on the boat, but it seemed we were now a bit land-sick. Peyton even threw up in front of the grocery store right by home. I think she had too much ipad time while in the air, which was also a bit bumpy.

Seussical

This has been a long week. Monday through Thursday until 630-645 pm each night for Brandon , interspersed with Peyton’s softball clinic on Tuesday, game on Wednesday and practice on Thursday.  We made it to Friday when my mom came in to watch the shows.  She relieved me after Peyton’s pick up so that I could meet with Dave and Kenny for lunch.  She picked Brandon up then I took him with Dave to the pre-show call.  Dave and I stood in line to see the five o clock show. We also stood back around in line for the second show since it was a different cast.   I was on duty for backstage for the Saturday second show.  The performances went well. We weren’t done with Friday night until after 830 and Brandon hadn’t eaten a proper snack yet. We took him to in and out and then home, showered and in bed before 10.

I had snack shack duty this morning at 8. It was one of the few times we didn’t have anything going on but I hadn’t considered a late night earlier when scheduling. Dave met me to see if he could talk to the league president again since a board member is there to open up.

He hung out with the other mom and me for awhile. The other mom we know from Girl Scouts and basketball so we had fun chatting away.  Dave left to get brownie mix while I worked the rest of my shift. It’s easy as there is no grill involved and it’s shorter since it’s the tball game. Coffee and donuts were sold along with a few chips and candy but nothing big.

I came home and Dave, my mom and Peyton went to her game.  I went to get flowers for Brandon so he could pick them out himself. We were getting them for two friends, the Hortons.  One was a reciprocal flower exchange from his buddy. Another was for Grace.  I asked him what kind of flowers he should get. He responded, “ROSES!”  Whoah, Buddy! Then he said, “Uh, ok, snap dragons?”  (He plays Plants Vs Zombies, so he knows a little about horticulture.). So, we went to the store in search of flowers. He picked out a mixed bouquet that had a rose. Along with some purple blue irises for his guy friend. We saw them both when we returned to the show. Grace wasn’t in the first one but was first in line.  Brandon asked me if he should give them to her now. He just wanted them off his hands. She said, “Not now! At the end!”  Then, “Can I have the blue ones? Blue is my favorite color!”  The rose bouquet was bigger. He ended up waiting on them and I kept them under my chair.

I watched alone and then headed to do my duty. I was going to man the door to avoid the wind and noise as the cast exited and entered stage left.  It was the only way in and out from the stage to the green room. There were two other moms in the green room.  By this time, Dave, Peyton and my mom arrived. They had three bouquets of flowers!  I quickly assogned them to the drama moms who helped Brandon along this journey – Grace’s mom, the main mom and the director.

We helped clean up a bit then we headed to a rather late lunch. He’d asked for pizza last night but changed to burgers. This time we got pizza.  We had our end of the season awards party for Peyton’s league, so we just needed a little bit to tide us over. We ended up having to buy brownies instead of making them since there wasn’t time to make them. We saw Grace’s mom pulling into the store as we were leaving.

We arrived at the party, and Peyton found Hope and also her softball friends. The party was for basketball, but many of the friends there were made through softball.  We had a nice time there, though we didn’t win raffle prizes this time.

We got the kids in earlier to bed since tomorrow is another long day with birthday parties.  Through it all, Peytondid practice  the piano each night, trying to make her way through to level four.
