First Friday went on for Cuatro de Mayo at our neighbor’s/schoolmate’s house, who hosted it. Peyton and I went, while the boys went to the movies to see the Avengers movie before anyone else ruined it for them. P had a great time hanging with the girls, while I chatted with the moms.
Saturday was all softball. Brandon missed his baseball game and vball clinic as we headed to tailgate by 8 am. P had her jersey on and two of her teammates, who coordinated with the same outfits. We had Peyton’s UCLA ball from last year, which was given to her for shagging foul balls at the Stanford game. We had a sharpie and she was all set. Her teammates had tickets behind homeplate, and we had tickets in the bleachers/general admission. We tailgated for almost 4 hours, watching batting practice from behind the fence catching four foul balls. Dave tried to catch one barehanded! Another coach caught a ball to protect his windshield. Another ball hit off a tree otherwise it would have cracked another coach’s window. Then, when it was game time, we headed in. The pitchers were both lights out, and it was a low scoring game as a result. Her coaches gave her their ticket half way through the game, so she joined her friends for the last half of the game.
After the win, Dave took her out where the players were exiting for the bus, which was parked just by our cars in the side parking lot. She got many of the players. I had been standing behind the head coach in the restroom line, as there was only one set of bathrooms for the entire stadium, players and coaches included. But Dave had told me to bring up our mutual friend, but I hadn’t seen the text just yet. But he did when we got her autograph, and she totally warmed up when she heard that we knew that friend. She saw Peyton’s jersey, and told us that was a great organization. Dave found it reassuring that she knew of the organization, just as the founder had informed the parents. We got pictures with most of those whose autographs she had, though some had to rush off to the bus.

Our night ended after 9 pm, over 12 hours from when it started.
We all slept in on Sunday, with Peyton coming into our room, and then falling back asleep. Her first activity was basketball, then her piano party to practice for their recital, and finally her friend’s play. We were supposed to go to the play last night, but bailed because of getting back late from dinner. So, it was a bit unexpected for us to show up today, but our friend saved us tickets in the third row. We had great seats and had arrived just in time to start the show.
Peyton saw other friends, a t-ball teammate, a softball teammate, and one of Brandon’s baseball organization’s kid. We knew that the softball teammate was there because as we arrived, we heard “Hi, Peyton!” I was scrambling for our seat, but Peyton saw her friend’s older brother and acknowledged him. We were able to take pictures with Peyton’s friend after the show was done, but I could tell Peyton was so tired. It was over an hour and a half show, and a few times, I felt her head lean up against my shoulder.
