Weekend of Birthdays

This weekend was little Peyton’s big first birthday party. I learned that I have to start very early for her birthday since it is so close to Christmas, and it is such a crazy time of the year. We were up late the night before getting last minute details like baking the big cupcake and all the mini cupcakes. Realizing I couldn’t do it alone, I enlisted Dave’s help. It was about eleven o clock by then. I don’t think I slept until almost 230am. Luckily we waited until the second to celebrate her birthday to give us the extra time we needed. She was a trooper – staying up much of her first party (we had two separate parties for to break up the number of guests in our home at one time) and most of the second.
Today we celebrated my dad’s birthday. It has been a weekend of way too much food. There are tons of leftovers everywhere.
Peyton has become pretty clingy this weekend only going to my mom or me. Not even to Dave, much to his dismay. Today, I was holding her and it was time for a diaper change. Dave gave her the diaper to hold while he was going to pull her pants down. He hadn’t started yet as he was still standing over us. She then stuck out her arm with the diaper and was trying to hand it to him. We were surprised! He started taking off her pants and was remarking about her thunder thighs. She fussed and whined when he said it. Dave then responded, “What? You don’t like me talking about your thunder thighs?”  She then looked at him and shook her head. Really? So he said it again and again she shook her head. She did let him finish without further complaint because he stopped commenting about her legs.

Brandon is still the same old Brandon, funny as ever.  Today, Dave was asking him when we should go camping.  He said, “But we don’t even have a tent!”  Brandon’s never even been camping before, but he knows we need a tent!  They have both been showered with many gifts over this past week.  Peyton also got many gifts for her birthday.  They are both into each other’s toys.  And Brandon especially enjoys whatever toy Peyton happens to be playing with at the time.  Peyton will let Brandon know with a loud scream.  I’m glad Peyton voices her opinion.  This gives Brandon an opportunity to practice sharing. I hope I will be able to wake him up for school tomorrow.  He’s been sleeping in until 830am almost every morning.  We’re not staying up super late (930pm at the latest), but I think we’re doing more during the day, and he’s not getting his usual nap like he does during the school day.  It’ll be interesting to see how he does given it’s been almost two weeks without school.  Peyton too now that she’s been so clingy.
Peyton is now pointing at things to get what she wants.  It’s mostly food and pictures of her and Brandon that she points at but at least we are able to communicate somehow.  We will find out all her stats at Tuesday’s doctor appointment.  For now, her list of “accomplishments” includes clapping and dancing, kissing, waving goodbye, patting her mouth with a napkin, signing for more food, eating lots, and saying, “Tiggle, tiggle”.  The other day, she had some food on her mouth, and I stuck my tongue out to lick my own mouth, with hopes she’d mimick me.  She did!  She stuck her tongue out (in a mirror fashion) but was not successful in getting the food off her mouth.  It was a moment 🙂  I know I am enjoying every minute with this little girl, trying to enjoy the baby years for as long as possible before the toddler attitude comes creeping in.
While I was typing this, Peyton just scrunched her fingers in the drawer.  Lots of tears and crying.  Must go now and soothe her.
