Softball update

We got a text during our first day in the park. The girls’ team won 8-0. We wouldn’t have texted the coach, but we were wondering how the game was going.   It was to determine if we’d be in the winners or losers bracket.  I did ask Dave to see if the trick plays worked.  Coach texted back that they tried it twice but our first baseman couldn’t squeeze the ball enough so it didn’t work. According to this strict viagra purchase uk definition, it is a common problem among men of all ages these days. Peyton said all the dads were there and no moms. Good thing I didn’t show up. I’m hobbling around like I’m 90 years old!

Championship game is on Saturday!

(Half) Marathon weekend

I had a meeting at school with some of the moms for next year’s school year planning for the after school programs. I’m supposed to be leading it off next year, but still “in training”. I informed the moms I was sick, so I wanted to stay away from everyone. They kept trying to get me to sit closer, but I didn’t want to infect anyone else. It lasted about 2 hours, and I came home just in time to accept the delivery of Brandon’s new furniture. The two guys brought it upstairs and set it up in less than 5 minutes. Soon after, I returned to school to get Peyton. I got her home and started piano practice knowing we’d be gone this weekend. She made it through, then Dave came home. He packed up the car after I’d put the bags together, and we left to get Brandon about 15 minutes before he was set to be dismissed. The drive down then started, and three of us (the non drivers) all fell asleep. I was exhausted, as were the kids, and when we awoke 2 hours later, we were only just past Gilroy! Yes, traffic was that bad. What a waste of a nap. Normally, we’d be almost half-way down in that amount of time. We stopped for some cough drops for Brandon, and then we headed on our way. We had snacks in the car, and then stopped for dinner at new place for us that Michelle had mentioned on their last trip. We ended up spending about an hour in here with both potties and food. We headed back on the road to less traffic and nightfall by that time. We ended up getting into Dave’s parents’ house by 1030 or 11 pm. We showered the kids, then sent them to bed. We slept in only until a little after 7 am, which is still better than their home schedule. We got up and got ready for our day. We had Chinese breakfast with the parents before heading off to the park. We arrived somewhat early, around 11 am, and I went to get my bib, while the kids and Dave hung around downtown Disney. I met up with them, then we headed inside. I was exhausted just walking around the park, so I couldn’t wait to get checked into the hotel. We were told that wouldn’t happen until 3 or 4 pm, so we just hung out and did two rides – buzz, which didn’t record a picture πŸ™ and Thunder Mountain, since it was open (it wasn’t our last trip). This was Peyton’s final mountain to overcome. She was a bit hesitant, with a not so happy face, but she had a great time! We headed out to look for lunch. I wanted to carb load, so we found a place that had a bit of everything. I had pasta with veggies right across from our hotel. We checked in after that, and then Dave took the kids back out to the park. I settled in with my running clothes, putting my bib on, getting all my gear out and packing up my pockets with all my stuff. I then showered and got ready for the night. We were in a suite, so I had the front room while the kids and Dave were sleeping in the back. I got everything ready to go for the morning, double-checked my alarm was set for 345 am, and then turned on the game. It was just starting, and I put a 60 minute timer on. I fell asleep sometime during the game, and when I awoke, the tv was off. It was too quiet, and too light out, so I knew I hadn’t slept long. I fell back asleep, and stayed that way until I heard the grumbling of fire works. Then soon after, Dave came home with the kids. They tried to be quiet, but I heard them shower up and bump around in their room. I figured they must have been watching tv after as they were super quiet. I confirmed that the next day πŸ˜‰

I did go to sleep again after that, and I popped up when I heard my alarm. I got ready in 15 minutes, and headed out to catch my shuttle. I was out there with all the other runners, and the shuttle showed up within 5 minutes. It was a perfect morning, just about 55 degrees. I was planning to gear check, and I had all my stuff in my bag. I ate my breakfast after we were dropped off, then checked my stuff. I still had 45 minutes before the start of the race, so I stretched. I tried my hardest to NOT be on my phone, since I wanted to preserve battery life for my music and race-tracking. I also had to find Dave after. I’d brought my full charger, but I left it in my gear bag for after. So I didn’t touch my phone with the exception to take a few pictures. The selfies were not FB-worthy πŸ˜‰ Pre-dawn photos usually aren’t. I think this was the first race where I knew no one in it. I didn’t have anyone to talk to in the corral, no one to take the shuttle with, but given that I was sick, it was just fine not to talk to anyone. I was loaded up on cough drops in both of my tank top pockets (in the back). I’d had a can of prepped coffee and a luna bar to eat. Finally, it was time for the national anthem, and at that time, I prepped my music and phone. The run started and wheelchairs were let go at 529 am, with corral A at 530 am. I was in B, based on a 10 K time, when I was faster, so I got to start with faster runners. That helped me a lot to keep pace. I did fine with pacing the first two miles, running under 11. I was still mostly running by 5K, and 10K, then it all went downhill from there. I lacked stamina, and walked quite a bit. More than I’ve ever done in a race. I stopped at many more water stations than I usually had. I had a cough drop parked in my buccal pocket (gum) for every mile of that race. Each time I ran “low”, I was already unwrapping another. Only problem was I lacked fine motor control in my hands. I had to concentrate to unwrap the square cough drop and take the waxed paper coating off. And because I was conscientious, I put the trash back in my shirt for disposal later. It was really warming up, but I kept pushing on. At mile 11 or so, I had cramping in my legs, by my knees! I didn’t even know I had muscles there that could cramp. I kept walking through it because I figured if I stopped, I may have fallen over! I somehow made it the last two miles or so, half walking, half jogging my way back to the finish line. I ran the last chute, only because I didn’t want to be seen walking in with all those people watching. I got my medal, took a picture, and then went to sit down and assess my situation. I put all my earbuds back together, to avoid losing anything. I’d gotten my gear bag and put my sweatshirt on. Dave was texting me that he was coming into the park, and asked if I had my pass. I could only imagine that meant I had to meet him and he planned to start our day in the park. It opened at 9 am, and it was just after 830 am when I was coordinating with him. I had a choice to meet him at downtown disney by walking through downtown disney or taking the tram from the parking lot. The tram was a block with not much traffic or through downtown disney through the throng of finishers and their families. I opted for the tram, and then I had to fight regular park traffic with nice clean people. I was given a towelette in my snack pack, and I used that to wipe the salt crystals that were on my face. I still felt bad for the two people that flanked me on the tram. I was texting Dave from the tram, and he told me he was also on the tram. The same tram! I waited for them to get off, and we re-grouped. He hadn’t brought my glasses, or my backpack, so I was stuck with my gear bag. We went through security, and then I was flagged for additional screening! Ugh. Luckily, I was minimally packed, so it didn’t take too long. We headed into CA side to get the RSR fast passes. Dave got me some breakfast and coffee for him, as they had all eaten at the hotel (lucky them). The hotel offered it with the stay, so it was nice for them to eat to start their day. Then, he left to check out of the hotel and move the car around, while I moved back over to Dland to do more rides with the kids. Dave had offered me to go back and shower up, and then I’d have to move the car, etc. I picked hanging out with the kids. I could sleep in the car and shower at home. They told me all the rides they went on, they had Chinese food for dinner, and had Rita’s ice and pistachio custard for dessert! Oh, and they also had peach cobbler funnel cake. He was capitalizing on me not being there as well as it being our last few days of the park life with our passes for this year. We got on most of the rides in 5 minutes – Autopia, which has a new sponsor, fast passes for Hyperspace mountain, got on Splash mountain, and Pirates. I was happy for pirates, sleeping for 20 minutes with the kids staying put in the boat. They asked for the front, so we were just the three of us in the row. We were going to go back and do Space with our passes, then saw it was closed! Bummer. Though I didn’t really want to do a roller coaster, as it may have upset my balance of things. I decided to head over to CA and meet Dave with our RSR passes. We decided to eat lunch at that time, though I was still not quite ready for real food. I got the kids small meals to tide them over, then Dave found us. We finished up there, rode RSR, and then headed back over to see if Space was still available. I was going to head to Thunder Mountain for Peyton to do it one last time (she says it’s the smoothest roller coaster there, echoing Dave’s sentiments). I sat and waited for them, and as soon as Dave texted me they were done, Thunder Mountain closed down! What bad luck! From there, we decided to call it a day. Peyton was complaining about the walking we were doing back and forth. I reminded her what distance I had to cover already that morning. She said she wished she had a stroller. I told her I wished I did, too. πŸ˜‰

I still hadn’t found anything that I’d really wanted to eat. Finally on our way out, I made up my mind with a acai bowl! I ordered it at Jamba juice while Dave was getting candy. He’s really making the most of his pass and the discount. Several times during the day, he told me he was going to renew. Funny guy. We started our trip back, in traffic, of course, but the kids fell asleep before I was done with my bowl. I then went to sleep and tried to get comfortable. We stopped back at the farm, and then again in Gilroy for the return. The drive was a bit better, but still traffic in spots that we did not expect. At about 10 pm, we had the kids showered and in bed. Fortunately, they did a pretty good job today. Peyton had practice, while I had Brandon doing homework and piano. Dave is out with the softball dads while I’m watching the Warriors game.

They were putting up hearts for me.  I was supposed to blow them kisses. I blew it because I got scared and put my hands down.

Trick Plays?

One thing that Peyton’s team has worked on lately was picking off the runner at first base. They’ve been practicing it with several catcher-first baseman combos. The coach called for the play last weekend, but the catcher hadn’t made the connection. There was a runner on first, and she had taken a lead off on a pitch, but was walking back to first. Coach called “Sellers-Leela”, and catcher threw it to first base, a strike! and Leela caught it and tagged the girl out. She had NO idea why she was out. This was in the first inning, with the first runner.

The second thing that happened, for the first time this season, was the catcher (same one) caught a foul tip. It went right into her glove and she gave it a squeeze! Again, the batter didn’t know she was out or why she was out. Catcher’s dad was so proud! He’d been wanting her to do that all season long.

Evaluations

The 5th graders are away at science camp, so the 4th graders are ruling the school now. Okay, no , not really. But Brandon said it was nice having them be away. Today, band had evaluations. I’d signed him up for Tuesday versus Thursday, since we had piano going on then. I’d planned to pick him up from CDC and bring him there. He practiced this morning since we ran out of time yesterday with piano for him and softball for Peyton. Dave said he practiced twice this morning. But Dave didn’t know what song he’d played. He brought his clarinet and music this morning. I was wondering what to do with Peyton, but I realized that she could stay at CDC.

I tried to sneak in to get him, walking past her room, when she stopped in front of the door. She looked right at me. I told her to hang tight, and that I’d be with Brandon for a bit. She didn’t care, and she continued to play with her friends. I took Brandon over, and he put his clarinet together while practicing the one note that was getting him stuck. He was still squeaking, but he was getting the right note about 50% of the time.

She called him in and here he went:

One girl was messing around and missed her time slot, so she rushed through the rest of Brandon’s time slot. She filled out his evaluation sheet:
Tone: 1 (best)
Posture: 1
Steady Beat: 1
Behavior: 4 (not awesome).

We then headed to get Peyton, and when I said bye to the teacher, she told her, “Good luck at the game!” I asked her, “You told her?” She nodded. Brandon finished up his homework, while Peyton did some of her writing and then went to change into softball clothes for the first game of the “playoffs”. Dave came home and took Peyton while I did some math with Brandon. We headed over after, and he brought some Magic cards. Luckily, one of the player’s older brother was there to play with Brandon. They’re both in fourth grade, about the same size, and both lefties. They played basketball, cards, and hung out, keeping each other entertained.

I was chatting with one mom most of the game, and I got only one at-bat for Peyton today. We were playing 4 innings instead of 3, and Peyton was excited to pitch the fourth inning. She knew she was playing Elise’s team. SHE knew. Not me. I took her word for it! And she was right…Elise was pitching in the final inning. The team was doing well all throughout the game, scoring 4 (the max) runs with each inning. Peyton played second base and right field, providing back up coverage to any throws at first base.

I just got the email that Peyton made the summer ball “travel” team that she tried out for on Sunday! I guess I know what I’ll be doing over the summer πŸ™‚ She’ll get to meet new players and have to learn a whole new coach. I think all the girls made it…based on the emails, but I’ll have to see who shows up. Funny though, Peyton told me the coach’s name is “Tony”. I got the email tonight, and it was from “Toby”.

Elise pitching to Peyton!

Princess?

We were sitting around watching a Disney special for the 60th anniversary when I asked Peyton what princess she identified with the most. She thought about it, then she came up with Mulan. I asked her, “Why do you think so?” Before she could think about it, Brandon chimed in, “Because she’s not a chicken.” Hahah…glad he thinks that way of her! She doesn’t like some of the rides at Dland, but I guess for the most part, she’s not a chicken, more so than Brandon πŸ™‚
She heard “Zippadeedoo” on the Echo, and she told me, “Oh, this is from my favorite ride!” Hah! Really?! This recently became her favorite ride. Showing off her Muscles!

Peyton had a busy day today! This morning, she woke up and got ready to go to her pinewood car derby workshop. She’s building a car again with Dave for the event in two weeks. She returned home after being gone a couple of hours, and I turned right around to take her to N’s birthday party. She is in her class and is a girl scout, too, and SHE was there this morning to my surprise. They must have their act together. I dropped her off, and I headed to the gym for a few miles of running, then went to get gas and order a picture frame. I made it back to CEC about 1245 pm. I checked in with the host mom and Peyton herself. I convinced her to redeem the remainder of her points at a later day, since the line was long and we had to get going. We took a picture with the birthday girl, then headed out. She changed into baseball clothes, and then hung out for 30 minutes. Brandon was watching Cars just like the old days! Dave and Peyton headed to the field, with Brandon and I shortly in tow. She’d forgotten her visor, so I brought it to her. We watched her evaluations with 11 other girls from across her division, 8 and under. She did fine all things considered, but Dave had wanted her to sleep. She was a bit sluggish running the bases; it was hot out there, and she’d been going for awhile now. After an hour, we headed out to the library to redeem her reading book of the month club prize. She got a free book, and it took her over 15 minutes to look through them all to select the best one. The library is close to CEC, but we didn’t have long in between the party, and I knew it was going to take a long time. We headed to get groceries, and now she is applying over 200 little pieces to our Monopoly game board, as we received 54 tickets from shopping today.

We played a little jenga, before Peyton came back. He also got to throw around with Dave at the park when Peyton was being evaluated. Now, he’s back on Dave’s time, at practice from 4-6 pm, which was moved because of Peyton. All this activity gets the kids to sleep well at night πŸ™‚
