Hi, Tinkerbell; Stinky

Peyton was talking to her Tinkerbell doll.  She kept saying, “Hi, Tinkerbell!  Hi, Tinkerbell.”  I asked Peyton, “What’s your name?”  She said, “Peyton.  I’m two!”  We’ve been practicing saying her age.  She’s got it down, now.  We’re watching football now, and as soon as she saw what was on, she said, “Touchdown!”  Neither team had scored, but that’s the extent of her football knowledge.  She watched until one team did score, then she said, appropriately, “Touchdown!”
Peyton has developed a keen sense of smell.  When we stopped off at a chain restaurant in the middle of the snowstorm, I couldn’t find Dave who had left with Brandon first.  I ended up taking Peyton with me to the restroom.  I plopped her down in front of me in the stall, and I told her firmly, “Stay right there.  Don’t move. Don’t sit down.  Stay right there.”  She just looked at me under her fuzzy hat, and stood completely still.  Erectile dysfunction is said to be a silent killer that murder male happiness generic viagra 50mg and satisfaction. I had seen other kids before try to crawl out from under the door, and do other yucky things.  I wasn’t in the mood to go chasing her around, and it was wet and slippery from the snow.  She was holding her goldfish, and looked right at me as I did my thing.  The only thing she did was look up and said, “It’s stinky.  It smells.”  Yes, the bathroom was stinky.  I had to agree with her on that.  I finished up, and picked her up to go wash our hands.  When we got back to the car, I opened up her fish, and she said, “I eat Nemo!”  Poor fishies.  They didn’t stand a chance.
Today at school, the teacher said that Peyton was aware of her classmates and knew that Cale wasn’t at school today.  She even said, “Cale not here.  Where Cale?”  She was looking forward to seeing all her friends this morning.

Birthday celebrations

My conversation with Brandon in the car today:
B: What day is it today?
Me: Papa’s birthday.
B: Are we going out to dinner?
Me: No.
B: Aren’t we going to celebrate?
Me: We can do it on the weekend.

A quick getaway

We headed down on our mini “vacation” to celebrate Peyton’s birthday the only way we know how 🙂 – a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth.  Brandon and Peyton have been listening to a commercial on our satellite radio (a supposed oxymoron) and have repeated, “Put the zhu zhu pet down!”  What’s funny is that they did receive some for Christmas this year.  Brandon can repeat the entire phrase, while Peyton chops it up and comes up with, “Zhu zhu put DOWN.”  She really emphasizes the “Down”.  She is learning how to admonish Brandon, telling him, “Don’t talk back!” and “Stop it, Bruddah.”  She sounds like a parent, if not for her 2-year-old take on things.  She has become even more fiesty in her old age, now knowing that she can only bite the teething duck that I found as her designated biting toy.  When she gets frustrated, she’ll call “DUCK!” and look around for something to bite with her mouth open.  She will also ask, “Hit Mommy?”  To which I respond, “Absolutely not.”  She will listen for the most part.
While we were in the car, we heard a new Usher song.  I hadn’t heard it before, then Brandon said, “This is Usher!”  I asked him how he knew, and Dave said it’s because it sounds like him.  But, Brandon sounded out the artist’s name showing up on the radio display.
We met up with The Shih’son Thursday morning, early, because we were afraid of being locked out due to crowd control.  We got in early for us, about 9am.  Dave and I would have been well-rested, but we wanted to meet up with Teddy.  We left the kids almost sleeping, and figured they would be asleep when we got back.  We left around 10pm, and by the time we got back, it was well after midnight.  We hadn’t brought a key, so we had to lightly knock.  I heard the pitter patter of little feet coming to the door.  It opened, and I heard, “MOMMEEE!!”  I picked Peyton up and she put her head down on my shoulder and closed her eyes.  I noticed she was in different clothes and had no diaper on.  Turns out we forgot to leave diapers, and the full pack was in our car.  She had wet through her pants after going commando, changed, and had been in the current clothes for about 30 minutes.  We quickly put a diaper on her so as not to ruin another two more pants (two layers due to the cold).  She fell asleep shortly after we brought her upstairs.  Dave’s mom said she wouldn’t go to sleep, however I secretly think she just wanted her to stay up and play with them.  She’s never stayed up THAT late before!  I set our alarm for 7am, hoping to leave at 730am to meet up with Meg.  Both kids groaned when the alarm went off, too early for these two, who had stayed up beyond their bedtimes.
We “timed” it perfectly as we parked in 4K, and they were in 4J.  They thought they saw us pay for parking and turn the corner while they were paying.  We were coming from two different destinations, and we both were running behind our previously agreed upon timetable, yet still managed to arrive at the same time!  The cousins got to see each other, and of course, the older two were able to hang out with each other.  The younger two haven’t really made that connection just yet.  We were able to all ride “It’s a small world,” and then the older two got to go on Buzz while we started on breakfast.  It was really windy and pretty packed, making maneuveringaround with strollers a bit challenging.  The Shih’s left to go back to dinner with the parents, while we checked into our hotel, ate diner, and headed back out to check out the evening stuff.  They are promoting the movie Tron, but only after 6pm, when it was dark.  We got to see a sneak peak of the movie, and Dave and I really want to see it now.  There was a warning small children may get scared during the screening, but our two were okay.  Even our resident scare-dy cat.  We didn’t stay for too much longer, and we headed back to get some sleep.  We wanted to get into the park the next day, given it was New Year’s Eve.  It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be, maybe because we got a later start and the early crowds had thinned by the time we entered around 10am.  Brandon got his wish to go on Splash Mountain, even though it was freezing cold.  I lent Dave my ski jacket, and they went before noon, when it was the warmest.  Peyton and I waited for them to fall down the water shoot.  We finally caught them on film!  It’s the first time we’ve been able to do it.  Luckily, we had the speedy camera, and got 4 pictures of them before they descended.  As a reward for waiting so patiently, and blowing through my snacks of egg whites and raisins from our hotel-sponsored breakfast, Peyton got her wish to go visit the 1000-acre wood residents.  Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger were there at first, but then left for a break.  I told her that they went to eat lunch and then go take a nap.  Eeyore and Tigger returned to their spots within a few minutes.  Pooh wasn’t coming back until after we were out of line.  Peyton said, “I want to hug Tigger.  I want to hug Eeyore.”  I couldn’t believe it!  Usually she is scared by the animals.  She was waving to Tigger and saying, “Hi, Tigger!  Hi, Tigger!” even when he wasn’t paying attention or could hear her.  It was really sweet.  Later, she incorporated them into her school song: “Eeyore’s here today, Eeyore’s here today, I’m so hap-pee Eeyore’s here today.”  She did the same with Pooh and Tigger.

Midday, around 3pm, Dave was checking in on his FB, when he saw a post Debbie had entered earlier in the day, about being in the park.  I immediately IM’d her to see if she was still there.  She had left already, but said that Ly was still there.  I tried Ly, but she didn’t get my text until she had already left.  In the meantime, Debbie asked if we were doing anything for New Year’s.  We knew we wouldn’t last in the park, given we hadn’t left yet since the morning.  Surprisingly, right around 3pm or so, there were lots of people leaving.  We figured the crowds were taking shifts.  The morning crowd was leaving, but the night time crowd, who were just coming for the countdown would come in later.  We had a few more rides we had fastpassed, and then we were ready to head out.  Debbie invited us over, so we headed out around 6pm.  Nick, Ly, Amber and Siena were already there.  Debbie and Simon were coming over, and Ly’s brother Khoi had arrived just as we had.  It was great to meet Kyle for the first time!  All the kids had a great time together.  We didn’t see a single tear the entire time we were there!  Katie did a great job sharing all her toys.  In fact, Dave was a little worried Brandon was getting so into the princess dolls and changing their outfits and fiddling with the tiaras.  Maybe Dave wished Katie wouldn’t have shared so much.  Peyton loved the kitchen and the cash register.  Poor Pish was trying to ignore the mess that the kids were making all over the family room.  The kids did all put the toys “away”, but I’m sure it was still not organized to his standards.  I asked Brandon if he liked Disneyland or Katie’s house better.  At first he said Disneyland, but then he changed his answer to Katie’s house!  I asked him what he liked most, and he said, “Making jokes and laughing.  And having the food fight! (with the pretend food)”  The adults were able to play a round of Taboo, and the girls beat the boys, who even had an extra guy on their team.  The guys claimed they had had more to drink.  Because we were playing boys versus girls, we were able to take turns watching the kids.  They didn’t really need much supervision, since they were all busy playing together.  When it was time to say goodbye, we asked Peyton to give Auntie Debbie a hug.  She turned to Uncle Pish, and wanted to give him a hug first.  she really took to Pish, which is strange because she usually doesn’t like men!  All the kids were comfortable with all the adults.  Amber crawled up onto Dave’s lap, prompting Peyton to say, “My Daddy.  My Daddy!” and looked a little concerned.  She was okay when Amber came up to me, but I tried to incorporate her.  She did give her a hug when she was in the infant carrier.  She was also worried when Siena was rocking her too hard.  She said, “Uh-oh.”  We all celebrated the EST NYE, so we left by 10pm.  The kids didn’t really know what was going on, but at the least the parents would be able to celebrate something, knowing most of us wouldn’t make it until midnight here.  I know Dave and I did not.  I did wake up at 1am because Peyton freaked out.  She had fallen asleep coming back from Debbie and Pish’s, and we just plopped her down on the bed.  She had done the same the night before, but this time, it was extreme.  She was crying uncontrollably; it was just me in the bed with her since Dave didn’t want to be kicked again as he had the night before.  I had to pick her up, and scrambled to turn the light on, so she could see where we were.  She was really huffy, even after falling asleep, she was still sighing.  I held her hand, which slipped out, and she woke up and searched for it again.  She placed my hand in hers with her opposite hand and was able to fall asleep again.  Poor baby was scared to death!  She doesn’t usually need us to sleep with her like that.  I was afraid she’d wake up Brandon, but he was sound asleep.  I didn’t even have to change her diaper or mum-mum her, which I hadn’t that night because she was asleep.  She just needed to know where she was.
Today we woke up and wished Peyton a happy birthday.  She didn’t really know what was going on.  We got her a birthday pin which she wore in the park yesterday and today.  She got a lot of “Happy Birthday” wishes, but she looked more annoyed that people were talking to her.  She didn’t know why people were addressing her 🙂  We entered DCA thinking we’d get onto Toy Story Mania, which had been closed for renovation for several months now.  The park was still closed; they let us in, but only to a certain point.  We decided to ditch the stroller so we could travel a little lighter.  As soon as we got the kids out, they let everyone in beyond the rope.  The music was going (“It’s the time of your life…”), Dave was carrying Peyton, while I walked with Brandon hand-in-hand.  It was at that moment that I knew why we do what we do every year.  It was a magical moment 🙂  Almost forgot to capture it on video. Almost.  Good thing for smartphones.  We made it over to TSM, but it was not working.  We decided to wait it out, knowing if it opened in the next 5 minutes, we’d have waited less than if we came back at any other point.  Luckily, we hedged correctly, and soon, they let us on, and it took us less than 10 minutes to get on.  It’s a ride we can all enjoy, even Peyton.  Next, we went onto the carousel, and of course, both kids wanted to ride the whale.  I think Peyton said she wanted to ride the whale first, then Brandon said he wanted to do the same.  So Peyton rode the purple whale, while Brandon rode the blue one.  Good thing it was empty and they had their pick.  It just meant they were in different rows.  After it stopped, Peyton said, “All done, wide.”  After the carousel, we went to the tortilla factory and the flour machine was back on!  Well, it was back on yesterday, but they were not handing them out.  Today, we each got one, and because the guy saw Peyton’s pin, he wished her Happy Birthday and gave her a bagged stack of tortillas!  Wow, we waited over a year for their return and Peyton got a stack.  Nice.  Tonight, we went out to dinner for Peyton’s birthday.  We went to a carhop 50’s diner type place, where they all wear rollerskates.  She couldn’t stop staring at their feet.  They all sang happy birthday to her at the end of dinner, and she was stunned.  If not for the ice cream in front of her, we think she would have started crying.  Dave had her on film, and he saw her shivering and her bottom lip quivering.  She wasted no time in digging into the ice cream.  She wasn’t even going to use a spoon!  I let her have what she wanted, and Brandon had a fit because he didn’t get any.  Peyton was nice enough to offer him some, and that cheered him up.  I quickly ate some too to help her along, so she wouldn’t eat the entire thing by herself.  She was quite content after she finished up with her ice cream.  Dave’s parents had already gotten her a cake at home, so we waited a little bit, after their baths.  Definitely think that’s the most sweets she’s ever eaten at once, maybe in all her two years combined!
Tomorrow, we will drive on back home and start 2011 off back to work and school.  Hopefully it all goes well.  Brandon gave us a little grief today, crying because he didn’t want to go back home after we checked out of the hotel.  After he realized we weren’t going home for another day, he relaxed.  I already geared him up for tomorrow, and he said he was okay.
