Tough Girl

Brandon was at practice with Dave, and I had Peyton at home eating dinner, then practicing her numbers.  She told me that a girl at school hit her today.  She told me it was one of the teacher’s daughters.  I asked her what happened, and she said, “She cutted in line, and I told her, ‘Don’t cut in line!’, then she hit me in the back.”  I asked her if she cut in line how she hit her in the back.  She said, “Because Ms J Most guys don’t really know levitra viagra cialis that many ways to turn out to be known previously starting a particular abortion. (her mom) told her to go behind me.  And then she just hit me!”  I asked her what she did then.  She said, “I just stared at her.”   I asked her if it hurt.  Her response was, “No, not really.  Well, a little bit.  But not a lot.”  I’m not sure what else did happen, but at least she tried to use her words, and didn’t retaliate.  Hopefully she’d tell the teacher if it continued to happen.  We’ll have to talk about it some more.

Not good; Proof!

After spending a lot of time on the iPad this weekend, and eating ice cream from the ice cream man, Brandon told me at the end of the weekend, “Well, you’re not that great of a mom, because you don’t let me play on the iPad whenever I want. And you don’t let me eat ice cream whenever I want either.” I just laughed at him and said, “Oh. Okay.” Then I posed to him the thought, “Maybe I am a good mom because I don’t let you play the ipad whenever you want, and I don’t let you eat ice cream whenever. Because playing on the iPad all day long and eating ice cream just isn’t good for you.” He respectfully disagreed. I’ll document it here and now so that maybe he’ll look back in 20 years and appreciate it. Here’s proof that Peyton has a good memory. Her recollection of what she wore her first time on the rapids ride was correct, however this was from DCA, and it was on Memorial Day. I wonder if Dave uploaded the wrong footage. Perhaps she was wearing that shirt in FL, too!

Going Greek

Today, we went back to my parents’ house and headed to the Greek festival. On our way up, we told the kids to take a nap. Peyton wasted no time, and even told Brandon, “I’m going to take a nap now.” She turned her head to the side, and she was out. We picked my mom up and headed toward the festival. As soon as my mom got in, a Rihanna song came on the radio. Suddenly, I heard, “Shine bright like a diamond!” That’s all she said, and we knew Peyton was up.
We headed downhill. There’s usually no parking around, so we parked in the neighborhood and walked down. I had wanted to walk from home, but it was a bit far for Peyton. It was warm out today, so that was going to be a challenge, too. We got there right after noon, when they opened. We cruised around and looked at the food options before choosing gyros, souvlaki for Peyton, salad, tzatziki dip and pita. We walked around a bit more before getting our dessert, baklava sundaes. Dave had had another type of dessert earlier, so my mom, Brandon, Peyton and I split two ice cream sundaes. They were so yummy, but it got too sweet toward the end, so I tapped out and didn’t finish up the baklava that was left over. We walked back up to the car (0.25 miles uphill), and Peyton was dragging! She had such a hard time walking, but since we’d had the majority of the dessert, my mom and I decided to walk home. Dave took the kids, and my mom and I hiked up the rest of the 1.5 miles back. We hung out a bit more then headed home for dinner. Dave went for a run, while I got the kids in bed to read. Both kids were yawning by 715 pm, and both in bed by 730 pm. I haven’t heard anything from them now, by 8pm, so I assume they are both passed out.

Squeezer

When I was young, my dad had a thing with noses. He used to bite my nose or pinch it and “get my nose”. That propensity for nose-pinching seems to have skipped a generation, but has come alive in Peyton. Yesterday, we headed up to my parents’ house so Dave could watch the UCLA game on tv. My parents were going to their own game, but they were still around in the morning. My mom answered the door, then later, my dad came out. He sat down, and Peyton immediately pinched his nose. I’m not sure what possessed her to do so, but after almost 40 years, my dad has some payback. We hung out with the kids all night long, while Dave waited for the game to start. The kids watched cartoons until gametime, then watched a little before going to bed. I tried to get them to sleep together, but as always, they had to be separated. They just can’t handle falling asleep together, and it was 10 pm! Once separated, they fell asleep within minutes. My parents came home after we’d gone to sleep, and we tried to keep the kids as quiet as possible as my parents had house guests sleeping over, too. Dave got up with Brandon by 645 am, while I got to sleep in with Peyton until 8 am. The kids had breakfast first, then after everyone got up, they ate a second round. After our guests drove back home, we came home for Brandon’s baseball practice. Peyton went to her room to rest, though she didn’t sleep since she’d slept for about 20 minutes in the car. I cleaned up from our weekend, and then Peyton got up. We both showered up, then Brandon and Dave came home to do the same. We then took the kids to my uncle’s house where my parents were headed for dinner. It was a perfect opportunity for us to sneak away for our anniversary dinner. We didn’t have a particular place to go, so it took us away while to pick somewhere. We eventually did pick a place close to my uncle’s house.
Here are our pics from dinner (a three-course selection of an appetizer, entree and dessert).
I had a soft-shelled crab over mango, hearts of palm, and pineapple, while Dave had fried mozzarella over heirloom tomatoes to start. (I love that Dave is eating tomatoes, as he wouldn’t eat them when we first met).
For our entree, Dave had braised wild boar stew, while I had seared ahi tuna with lentils and heirloom tomatoes. We finished up with creme brulee, both vanilla and espresso, and Dave had a key lime pie slice. We were both stuffed after we finished up. While we were eating dessert, the server brought us both a glass of prosecco. We wrapped up dinner and went to pick up the kids. They’d both eaten their dinner and had ice cream for dessert. They didn’t mind going home, in fact, Peyton said, “I’m going to sleep in the car.” And Brandon went straight to bed and tucked himself in after brushing his teeth.
