My Healthier Eater

Peyton looked at her lunch menu today, and said, “What? No brown rice?!” Then, she asked later if she could bring lunch from home on days that they have “unhealthy” food, like she did in Adventureland. I asked her what food was that. She said, “Oh, the chicken nuggets.” So, I’ll have to pay more attention to the lunch menu and pack a lunch for her. Strange Bedfellows

Lately, Peyton has been sneaking out of her room and into Brandon’s. She’ll get into his big bed, and then either they just whisper to one another OR he gets upset and tries to kick her out. His bed is a full, so there is plenty of room for them, but I don’t know what they are talking about. It is just disruptive to the bedtime routine. We turn her lights and radio off, but it doesn’t deter her. She’ll usually only try it once, at most twice in the beginning, and then she knows to stay in her room. Then, in the morning, we hear it again, with him complaining to us that she’s in his room again. It’s taken a few days, but finally, the time that they are waking is shifting. He didn’t get up until she went in there at 620 am. I’m not sure what time she woke up, but she’s not supposed to get out of her room until 630 am. I’ve even tried giving her more blankets to keep her warm, since maybe it’s correlated to the cooler temperatures, especially in the morning. We’ll get her to break the cycle eventually.

A Girl?

Brandon came home with a rainbow loom bracelet the other day, then before I had a chance to see it again, it was gone. I had a note to myself to remind myself to ask him (yes, everything is in my calendar, or it’s out of the brain) about it. When I did, he was very elusive, and seemed like he was not telling the truth. Then, we got mad at him, and started removing privileges, like TV for the weekend. Finally, he’d had enough of removal of fun things, and he told us he found it at CDC, then gave it to “Joelle”. He’d initially said Wyatt, but when I told him I’d ask Wyatt, he suddenly balked. I know Wyatt, and it’s entirely possibly for me to talk to him. I realized that “Joelle” was the last family that we saw at our house on Halloween evening, with her sister and parents. Her parents were speaking Chinese to her, and told her to only take one piece of candy, but she read from Brandon’s sign, “But it says, ‘Please take two pieces of candy!'” So, I asked Brandon if Joelle was in class the last time I read to the class. Brandon said, “Yes,” and then I asked, “Is she a quiet girl?” Brandon said, “No.” Then, Peyton chimed in and said, “Then how come she didn’t talk in class?” I dropped the subject, not wanting to focus too much on his reasoning for lying to us. I think he may have been embarrassed because he liked Joelle, but it was the first I’d heard of her name. I’ll have my eye on finding her the next time I go into the classroom 🙂
Later, I talked to him myself, and I did tell him that he can tell us anything, and that he shouldn’t have to hide stuff from us even if he is embarrassed, scared or shy.

Birthday Parties

Yesterday, we went to Tyler and Tyson’s 4th birthday celebration. We got there, and the kids were drawn to the jumpy house. Neither wanted to eat, so we took the opportunity to hit up the nacho and taco bar, while the kids threw their shoes off and started bouncing. We watched them to make sure they didn’t hurt any of the other little kids that were there. They did reasonably well, but we did pull Brandon out after awhile, since there were really small kids in there. Later, I compromised with him, and he had to be on his knees, and even then, he was taller than some of the kids. Neither kid wanted face-painting, so they continued to bounce, while others got elaborate designs. They did take a break to eat, then continued to jump around. Then, it was cake time, and the kids got to sing happy birthday while taking pictures. It was a lot to coordinate all those kids, but hopefully someone got a good one, as my phone was in my purse in the back room. Then, there was a pinata, and surprisingly, neither kid wanted to do that, too. Last time Brandon hit at a pinata, he didn’t know how to stop. So I didn’t force the issue on him. And if Brandon doesn’t do it, then Peyton won’t either. Neither wanted to pull a string, so Peyton went in there to get after to get one piece for each of them. After saying our thank you and good-byes, we headed home. I dropped the rest of them off, then headed up to meet Carolyn for dinner. We shopped a little bit, then headed to dinner. We chatted until the restaurant closed! Dave didn’t understand how we could have dinner for 5 hours, but really, we don’t get to catch up that often.
This morning was Mckayla’s 6th birthday party. I wanted to be sure we arrived early, so that Peyton could be adjusted and warmed up when other people go there. She was still whiny, and didn’t want to choose a place to sit. She got a little bit better, but wanted me to hold her hand while she sat down. I told her that she was the only one holding on to a Mommy’s hand. When Kira arrived, she sat next to Peyton, as we’d saved a seat for her. Peyton relaxed a little bit, and she was attentive when the owner was going over the instructions. Peyton was happy to get started and wanted to do everything by herself. I couldn’t convince her to make a UCLA-inspired one, but she did them on her own. After the kids were done making three different kinds, a triangle, rectangle, and fish-shaped one, lunch was served, and then all sang the happy birthday song with cupcakes and one last picture of all the kids. We said our goodbyes, and then headed out the door with Kathy and Kira. Peyton had a lot of fun, and she keeps looking at her soaps. She was excited to show them to Dave, and keeps touching them throughout the night. She made a purple triangle, with some seaside fragrance, then an apricot-colored apricot-smelling rectangle, and finally a deep-purple fish (after seeing one of Mckayla’s soaps that was a rich, deep color) with cucumber melon scent.

Later, she was telling Brandon how to make the soaps.  She’d just recovered for some meltdown, so she’s a bit drippy in the eyes and nose.

We headed to Costco for a quick trip, then headed home. After we got home, she was disappointed because Dave and Brandon were out. I told her to take a nap, and she asked me if I was going to join her. I told her I’d be cleaning up, and to start sleeping first.  By the time I’d finished with the dishes, 5 minutes after she’d gone upstairs, she was totally out!  I took a nap, too, then the boys came home.  Brandon took a nap, then, our times were all thrown off because of the daylight savings.  Dave didn’t turn their clocks back before bed yesterday, so they’d both been up by 530 am, thinking it was 630 am.  We ate dinner at 4pm, watched Monsters U. at 5 pm, and then lights out and in bed by 7pm, with no complaints from anyone.  We’ll see how tomorrow morning goes, but I did change both of their clocks back to the new time.

Sound Bites

While Brandon and Peyton were at a home waiting to trick or treat, Brandon barked at Peyton, “Peyton, STOP fidgeting!” I wasn’t sure I’d heard him correctly, so I later asked him if he’d said it. I wasn’t sure he knew what it meant, so I asked, “Why did you tell her to stop fidgeting?” His response was, “Because she was just moving around You can without any issues purchase these from online sites of sildenafil for sale medication stores. free viagra 100mg Since we have got reasons for those missing pictures or videos, then we now start picture recovery. While Peyton was in between Dave and me this morning after waking, he was bothering her by trying to hold my hand. She told him, “No, MY momma.” Then, she wrapped herself around my hand. He kept trying, when she finally told him, “Keep your hands to yourself!”

Because 1-10 is boring…

This was in Peyton’s file today.

This is the convo that followed:
Me: Wow, Peyton did you color this?
P: Yes, I followed Ms Daisy.
B: So, you didn’t color it, Ms Daisy colored it.

Me: (intervening) Brandon, she colored it herself, but was using the same colors that Ms Daisy did. Both kids were then satisfied, while I was thinking to myself that she may be the best colorer in the house.

Dental Trip

Today was Peyton’s turn for the dentist. Since Brandon had a teacher learning day, there was no rush this morning. In fact, we had time to feed both kids at home, and then get some reading done before heading to CDC. Then, I headed off to the dentist with Peyton. It’s been 6 months already! Since Monday, she was waiting and trying to decide what flavor fluoride treatment and toothpaste to get. We’ve been talking about, so she didn’t take too long to decide when she was in the chair. When we got to the office, I noticed the sign on the wall that said this month’s toothpaste flavor was “hot cocoa”. I asked her if that was something she wanted. She didn’t say much. She was due for x-rays, so she hopped into the x-ray chair. She was wrapped like a hot dog with the shield, then sat still while I played peek-a-boo (to get out of the way) with the x-ray. She hopped up to the big chair, and then the hygienist asked her what flavor for toothpaste. She didn’t answer, but then the hygienist turned around, and Peyton whispered to me. She wanted the chocolate. She was being very shy, and didn’t answer the hygienist’s questions about Halloween costumes or anything. The cleaning went well, and then it was time to give her preference for fluoride. She had a hard time deciding, since last time mint and bubble gum didn’t go well together. The hygienist told her the top picks were strawberry and banana. She still didn’t answer, and then banana was being pushed on her. I told her she’d better pick strawberry, since Peyton didn’t really like banana stuff. Chocolate and strawberry seemed complementary. We left no cavities, and a new toothbrush! On our way out, a face painter was setting up shop. We hadn’t seen her yet, and she told me she’d only been there since the summer, but comes every first Friday of the month (exactly when we come since that’s the time that our dentist is there, and it’s my day off). Peyton wanted a design on her arm and chose a butterfly. The lady asked what colors she liked, and she responded, “Pink.” The lady responded, “Of course, I was going to ask you.” Then, her next color choice, “Purple!” It also had a dusting of glitter for a nice effect, and Peyton was happy with her tatted up arm. We went to school, and I thought there may be crying, as she was clinging to my leg. She sat at the snack table, while I told Ms Elena all about the pumpkin seeds. Peyton was cheerful when I said goodbye, and then I told her after nap, I’d take her to BR for her deserved ice cream. I went to work from 1030 am to 3pm, to get work done, before going back to get Peyton. We stopped at BR for “Rainbow”, even though she tasted the electric blue and neon green sherbet. She’d initially wanted chocolate before I took her over to that section. I watched as she meticulously ate her kid’s scoop. When she finished her cone, we headed to the grocery store. I was going to take both kids, but really, it is SO much easier taking just one, though she insisted on pushing the little shopping cart around the store. I had to make sure she didn’t run into anyone, namely, ME, though she disliked me guiding her with the stick attached. In all, we got our stuff done, and we left to get Brandon.
The kids were playing outside on the structure, and Brandon had his hat in hand. I don’t know if he was wearing it, but at least he knew where it was. I didn’t realize it’d be so hot, otherwise, I would’ve sunblocked him. He did convince me to let him wear shorts, so at least he was comfy. We headed home, and both kids wanted to start on dinner.  OH….Dave was staying late at work for a social function, so I’d gotten some salads at TJ’s for dinner.  Brandon ate a WHOLE bag of Caesar salad, intended for 3 servings, though I’d only given him a little dressing. I guess he was trying to cleanse his insides from the Halloween festivities.  He’d even eaten the chicken from the salad that Peyton and I shared!  And then some plain Greek yogurt with a few prunes (he loves that stuff) before calling it quits for the evening in terms of food.   I think Peyton was full of ice cream, so she didn’t eat as much dinner.  She didn’t get or eat anything else, so that was okay, too.   We got that done with, and after everyone bathed, I started blogging while they each read their own books. Brandon was studying the Lego Batman book, while Peyton was reading the Princess Sofia book aloud.  The kids were in their beds by 715 pm, with a warning to Dave not to wake them. I warned Brandon to stay in his room until 630 am, and I told Peyton the same.  She said, “But can I sleep longer than that?”  Haha..I told her, “SURE!”  We’ll see if that really happens. Daylight savings is coming up on Sunday, but that really never means anything to us, unless they actually follow our directions!
