Winter fest

Today was the second winter fest we artended with the Girl Scouts. Last year, Peyton had tummy troubles from possible nerves since she was still new to the troop.  This year we knew she’d have a better year.  We went to the bank, got some canned goods for donation, and headed there.  It took awhile longer since parking was full, but we met up with A and her mom.   The girls had fun with games, crafts and shopping for little gifts.  Peyton was given ten dollars to spend. She was good calculating what she’d spent.  She had three dollars for the peppermint orange (a peppermint stick shoved in an orange), one dollar for a clip, and six dollars for a pillow.  I’d miscounted for the clip, and she reminded me she spent it.  We spent two hours there before we headed back. When we got to the car, I told her to take a nap.  She put her head down immediately, like a dog’s command!!  She got about twenty minutes in before we made it home.

School Day and Pixied!!

I went to work early this morning so I could come back to school for art time. I got to work at 7 am and left by 945 am. I arrived at school by 10 am and met my docent in the office. I got her all set up, and we worked together to get the classroom prepped. It helped that I’d already done Brandon’s class. Since we had 12 fewer kids, it made things a bit easier. The kids did a great job listening to the docent, and they were excited to get the project started. The docent asked who had seen the Nutcracker before. Peyton looked over at me, and then raised her hand. She was like Brandon earlier in the week, who kept looking at me to see if we’ve visited places on the map. We wrapped up the lesson by lunchtime, and the parents headed over to the closet to restock the cart. The other mom and I were joking we had 45 minutes to waste before picking up the kids again. We ended up chatting out in front of the school, and we ended up staying out there the entire time before it was time to go back and pick up kids! We talked about running the whole time. She is the coach for Girls on The Run; she has two boys and NO girls! But she feels strongly about the program and is making it happen. I hope the program is still in existence when Peyton gets to third grade. Peyton and I came home, and then we practiced for her piano party on Sunday. She practiced bowing, introducing herself and her piece, playing, and then asking, “What did you think about my performance?” , “What do you think I can do to improve?”, and “Who would like to go next?” She had the most time with the talking, of course, and did well with the playing at her last piano lesson. We headed to pick up Brandon a bit early for their dental appointments. Both kids were in the chair for xrays, when I saw one of Peyton’s Girl Scout troop mates. The girls waved to each other from across the dental chairs. Brandon’s xray showed one indentation into a baby tooth, made by the coming in of the adult tooth. There were a few options discussed – waiting until it fell out, waiting until it got an infection or pain, or putting a crown on it. The dentist decided on a “middle of the road” approach to wait a few months, see how far the adult tooth would have progressed in coming down, and then putting a crown in at that time if it still seemed to be awhile. That tooth normally falls out around 12 years old, but his adult tooth under it could be seen. I was okay with that. We have to floss him really well, since the cavity was pretty significant and close to the root. Peyton’s xrays were clean, but she has an underbite, which warranted a referral to the orthodontist! Brandon did NOT need an ortho consult despite our concern about his crooked teeth in the past. They’ve since straightened themselves out, and the dentist was totally fine with his teeth. I booked our future appointments, and even saw some other kids from school 🙂 (I’m nosy)…
We headed home to have Brandon practice piano and clarinet. They both showered, ate dinner, and then waited for Dave to get back. I wasn’t sure if he’d come home first or meet us at school for the drama performance. Brandon was lagging a bit, and I told him that we wouldn’t go until he was all done with his stuff. He got his stuff done lickety split, as he was super excited for the show. Dave got home right after 6, and we left to go to school. There was a huge line already, but we were still able to get a chair seat versus the lunch room benches with no back. We sat two rows behind Hope and her family. Ryan was just getting in with some flowers, but Hope was sitting with Melody. Tricia was talking about the girls sitting in front, but when they went up there, they got kicked out. They set them up with some chairs alongside the wall. In the meantime, Violette and Daphne came over, too. They were there with just Pascal, so about 5-6 of them, along with Faith, sat there. Tricia asked if Brandon wanted to go, too, but I told her it was probably best for him to stay with us. The girls were so cute all in a row of their own. They had fewer people in front of them to block their view. The show was about an hour, and Grace did a great job as Alice. I didn’t realize how big her part was! After the show, Peyton wouldn’t come back to us until Grace came out. She wanted a picture with her. Brandon stepped in, too. We took a few pictures for their family, including their grandparents, and then we said goodbye and goodnight. We headed out the door and saw the snacks there. The kids each got one thing, then we headed to pho since the kids were still hungry. I’d only fed them a salad earlier while waiting for Dave, since I never know if he’s going to bring food back. While we were eating dinner, Brandon said, “Ya, I think I’d like to sign up for drama depending on what the next show is.” Peyton said if it was Annie, she’d do it, but she said she’d have to learn a lot of lines. I secretly hope they do Annie, Jr after she is in 3rd grade. Brandon had a few guy friends in the show, so I think he was motivated by that. He’d have a full schedule, since drama is Monday and Wednesday and band continues at Tuesday and Thursday. Dave didn’t want him to do drama, saying that he’d have to pull out of baseball if that were the case. THAT would never happen. Last year, he managed both baseball and drama, but drama was only one day per week. They’re cdc days anyway, so I don’t know that it would take away too much. I heard there was some down time when the kids weren’t doing something, and it was time for them to do homework. He seemed okay with that. We’ll see when it comes down to it if he agrees or not. I won’t push it like last year, since he’s holding his end of the bargain up with band.
When we got home, I just asked the kids, “I wonder if we got pixied,” and as I said that, there was something on our front stoop!
Peyton was so excited, she said that since Brandon got to drop off C’s gift, she wanted to pick up the gift. They were so excited to open it up. But I had them take pictures first. The first picture was of them acting surprised. Then, I asked them to look at me. I got a smile from Peyton, while I still got the surprised look from Brandon. I missed the pic of that! They got personalized gifts with their initials on their respective gifts. Brandon got a star wars drinking cup, while Peyton got a princess pencil set, with a light up necklace. They must know Dave, too, as we got chocolate covered joe joe’s, and a reindeer light up nose 🙂

Here are the pictures from today. It was a good day.

What’s on his mind?

We were calling my mom from inside the car so the kids were on speaker. She’d been away for awhile so the kids hadn’t talked to her for a bit. Brandon wanted to ask her if she was “open” tomorrow as he wanted to go visit. But when he called her name, he said, “Grace!”   Then said, “Grandma.” But not before I caught him and called him out on it. He just chuckled to himself.  My mom hadn’t heard it.

Successful Pixie-ing

The kids asked if we could pixie tonight. I asked them to get all ready to go – shower, do homework, and eat dinner before Dave got home, and *maybe* he’d take them. Right around 645 pm, as Peyton was practicing piano, the door bell rang. She rushed downstairs, while I just stood there. Brandon said, “OH MOMMY!” I didn’t want to open the door really. Then, Dave walked through the door and said, “Just Kidding!” But, he was agreeable to take them both to pixie our family. They live in a cul de sac, so it was a bit tricky, especially since this was our first one. I didn’t want to go; I was nervous! We still haven’t been pixied yet, but there are kids at school who can’t keep their mouths shut. Peyton told Hope who our family was, and Hope’s pixie revealed himself to Grace. He just asked her, “Hey, were you pixied?” I told Peyton she shouldn’t tell Hope, but she told me, “Hope isn’t going to tell anyone!” Riiight…famous last words. C will know it was us by tomorrow 🙂
Now, we can focus on family #2. And I hope they left it on the right doorstep!

Missed her calling

Peyton went to a Girl Scout holiday party with gift exchange this evening. She and the girls put a craft snowman together, sharing pieces with one another nicely. They also snacked on food that we all brought. After the party, despite not eating sweets, she was quite hyper. Here is her rendition of “Never Fully Dressed”…

This is the third or fourth take, and it was a bit coerced…she was singing a lot longer and more fervently before I was able to capture her…
Here are the pictures from the party…and Brandon’s drawings from the car ride. I figured out the mash-up drawing that he had of the portrait.
