New Kid

Today at dinner, while Brandon and Dave were at their first basketball practice of the season, Peyton told me, “Well, there’s a new boy in our class.”  I asked, “Is his name Tyler?”  She asked me how I knew.  I told her that I know his mommy.  I asked her how he did, and if he was nice.  She said, “Well, he was pouring his milk from the pitcher, and then he poured too much and it spilled.”  I asked her what they did.  She said, “My Further, it takes the form of liquid which is drinkable to reach the stomach. cialis sale valsonindia.com This is a successful medicine in curing the erectile pressures in men and also acts as a timely solution for online levitra those who wish to enhance their sexual moments and pleasure along with an act of ED prevention solution. King Cake; School Photos

Random post here.  While we were in Vegas, Meg got a “King Cake” to share with the family.  The cake is evenly divided amongst those that will eat it, and there is a figurine baked into the cake.  Whoever gets the figurine is the lucky one for the day.  Meg cut the cake into 10 pieces, and even though it is almond-based, Penelope, who is allergic to peanuts, still got her own piece to participate.  We let the kids choose their own piece, and then we had to help them to make sure they didn’t bite into the figurine.  Our kids didn’t really know what to expect, so we started to mash through their pieces to make sure they didn’t swallow it.  Before the adults got to choose their slices, Dave said, “Oh, Brandon got it!”  It was a small horse pulled out of the middle of Brandon’s cake.  The cake itself was delicious, flaky and almond-y, but the surprise for the rest of us was done.  Brandon was excited to have gotten it, and he attributed his good behavior that day to the horse.  I told him that it was HIM that was behaving not the horse!  He packed it away on his own, wanting to save it.  What a fun treat!

Here are Peyton’s pictures from school this year.

Christmas 2013

We had a memorable Christmas holiday. On the 24th, we got up and packed the car for Grandma’s house. The kids were excited to see my mom. We picked her up and headed to the print shop to exchange gifts with my cousin for her two kids. It turns out that day, they were having their holiday luncheon, but we didn’t want to stay. We ended up taking a photo with Santa, then headed out to Dave’s work to pick up a shipment. He didn’t get exactly what he was waiting for (headphones), so we headed up to my grandma’s house. We had lunch, then the kids went down for a nap. Dave kept checking, since he didn’t want to leave for our trip without them. We played one game of MJ, and then cleaned up to get more table space back for dinner. We had a guest this year, Tanner, who had just finished high school where Brandon will go later. He was very well-spoken, and he was able to give us some insight to our school.  We didn’t quite last until midnight, as we never do.  The kids helped sort out the gifts, and soon, they were headed into opening them.  I kept a list of what they each got, with them alternating so I could keep track.  We headed out around 10 pm, and they both stayed up.  Brandon headed straight to bed, but Peyton was giddy putting out the cookies and carrots for Santa and his reindeer.  We sent them both to bed while we tried to clean up the aftermath of Christmas part I.  Soon, we went to bed, too, but we were packing for the next day.  The kids were excited when they woke up, and both wanted to rush downstairs to see what Santa brought.  I convinced them to stay upstairs until we got the camera ready.  Both raced down, and were excited to see that Santa had arrived!  Both ended up saving Santa’s presents for last.  Peyton’s expression was priceless, as she exclaimed, “He brought just what I wanted!”  Brandon was equally happy, with his remote-controlled helicopters.  Both kids weren’t able to play long, as we rushed them out the door in anticipation of our long drive to Vegas.  We got out of the house by 9am, then stopped for coffee and breakfast and on the road by 930 am.  We got in at 630 pm, and I checked us into the timeshare.  In all, we stopped twice, just for potty and food.  The kids did a great job staying with the program, with Peyton napping, while Brandon quietly played.  All things were great, but now, my cold was full-blown.  We headed out in search of food, and since it was Christmas, we wanted to eat something nice.  We had walked to the casino next to the timeshare, and we found a Brazilian bbq place that we had eaten for Dave’s holiday party at work.  We wanted to have Brandon try it.  He was $20 and Peyton was free, so we wanted to try it.  We had no wait, so it was great!  Brandon didn’t eat as much as we’d hoped, but Peyton ate like a champ!  She had fun with the tongs, and we got a few pictures of that.  We headed back to our place, and then washed the kids up.  The next day was a bit of a blur, since I was still not feeling well.  I did medicate, but Dave took Peyton out to walk around, while Brandon was happy to play video games with me lying around.  Later, Dave went out to get lunch, while I had both kids with me.  We had a change in our reservation, so I needed to change rooms.  It was just next door, but I told the staff that I was waiting for Dave to get back.  I told them I didn’t want to leave my room to go downstairs and leave the kids by themselves.  They even asked me how old the kids were.  Finally, the manager came up and brought my new keys.  I had pushed all the bags up to the front of the door, and the manager asked if I wanted help.  They really  wanted to clean up the old room!  So, the kids were helpful and brought the bags over that they could carry.  I carried the rest.  Dave came home just as I’d finished.  The next day, we headed to Excalibur for some games.  It was a nice walk, and the weather was beautiful.  After we came back, I lounged around while Dave took the kids to the Shih’s to see their cousins.  Dave later texted me and then called to ask if I wanted to be picked up.  He wasn’t happy to come back to get me, but he kept asking if I wanted to come.  I told him to come get me, so he did so I could hang out.  We went to eat at Bachi burger, which was delicious!  The kids all fought to sit next to each other, so they were all together on one side.  We headed home after dinner, but we knew we’d see them the next day.  In the morning, we checked out, then headed to meet Joyce, Vince, David Kim,  Tracy and Norm at Paris.  We met up at the Paris cafe.  Brandon was not happy to be in smoke.  He even told me, “I can’t stay here for 9 days.  It’s too smokey.” Since it was smokey outside, too, he wasn’t happy anywhere on the strip.  We had a nice brunch, with the kids totally plugged in.  Normally, they don’t need electronics to keep them entertained, we gave in since they were the only kids there.  Peyton ate a whole waffle, and even ate some of Dave’s corned beef hash!  Brandon didn’t eat much since we’d fed him for breakfast since he was hungry as soon as he’d gotten up.  We then headed over to the Shih’s.  Peyton had fallen asleep in the car, so at least she had her nap in.  We got our stuff in the house, and got settled.  It looked like we were moving in for a month with all the stuff we had!  We went to eat at a local Chinese restaurant, then Dave and Jeff took off to the basketball game.  Meg and I took the kids to the shave ice / snow place across the street.  The kids did relatively well, but I had to settle Brandon down by taking away his flavor choice.  He didn’t miss out entirely, as he shared with Peyton.  But I was sad he couldn’t keep it together to get his coconut with coconut shavings that I knew he’d love.  All 6 of us got home safely, and that’s when the kids were introduced to the Frozen soundtrack, which would be a recurring theme for the rest of the week.  We got the kids back home, and the two little ones showered together while the older ones took their own showers.  Everyone was down reasonably well, but Peyton did resurface at some point.  The guys got home around 930 pm, which was a bit earlier than I thought they’d come back.  The rest of the days kind of blended together, with the highlights being on 12/30, a babysitter was hired for the kids.  They all had dinner together (they were already bathed and in jammies).  The sitter was a teacher from school, who had her own kids.  They had had her before, but obviously, she was new to our two.  Peyton had gotten her feelings hurt right as she’d gotten there, and she was just wiping tears away.  I was trying to introduce her to the sitter, but she was even more reluctant than she normally would be.  I didn’t have time to deal with drama, so we left about the same time as Meg and Jeff.  We quickly ate tapas, then headed to our show, Mystere.  I had a mango mojito, and that almost did me in.  I was fine until we had to make a run for it from the parking lot to the show since we were a bit late.  We made it within 5 minutes of curtain call, but I was feeling a bit woozy.  I “fell” into my chair, and quickly drank my water.  I felt better because we were sitting, but gladly, the seat was right in the front of the section as we walked in.  Any other stairs, and I may not have made it.  The show was great and very entertaining.  We got out and still had time before we had to let the babysitter go.  We went to a dessert place as recommended by Meg and Jeff.  We ordered the prix fixe which took a bit longer, but we were okay paying the sitter extra.  After dessert was done, we headed home.  The babysitter gave us the run-down, that our kids were the last ones standing.  They kept trying to come out, and even tried to go upstairs to wake up the Shih girls who were already sleeping!  She had to sit on the stairs to prevent them from coming up.  And then, she went into the room to get them to settle down, but Peyton kept singing.  I asked if Peyton was shy, and she said, “Absolutely not shy!”  She said Penelope didn’t talk to her for about 15 minutes, which was strange since she knows her already.  But Peyton was very talkative.  We thanked her, and then she headed out.  We waited up for Meg and Jeff to see how their show was.  They saw Maroon 5.  We’d been texting them through the night, just to check in, and called when we were getting into the house, but otherwise, I wasn’t able to fully hear how the show was until they got home.  We all went to sleep, then the next morning, we were planning a trip to Zappos for a tour by Laurie.  Jeff and Abby stayed behind, since Abby had some work to do.  The 6 of us piled into the car, and more Frozen was heard.  We ate breakfast at a restaurant called eat.   It makes things difficult when telling someone like Laurie, “We are going to eat.”  “Where?”  “At eat.”  Luckily, she knew of the restaurant.  We met up with Laurie, and she gave us a personal tour of the facility.  We even stopped by the cafe, and the kids got snacks and water.  After, we headed to the Container park, which is a shopping area made out of shipping containers.  The kids were able to run around on a slide/structure, while Laurie and I chatted a bit.  We took the kids off the structure so we could make it back before our meter expired.  We headed home for naps, then it was Dave’s belated birthday present from his sister.  Goyemon!  It’s an all you can eat made to order sushi restaurant.  It was super yummy, and all of us were full after our food and dessert.  We listened to more Frozen, then went back and got everyone ready for bed.  The little girls showered with one another each night!  The routine had been established.  Tuesday morning, New Year’s Eve, Meg, Dave and I went out to exercise.  It was a body sculpt class, and it was a great workout.  Most of the exercises I’d done before, but I was totally feeling it.  We’d gone to the park two days before, and I raced the kids and was already sore in my quads from that.  With squats and other exercises, I was feeling it more.  Jeff did a good job of holding down the kid fort while we were gone.  He texted a serene picture of Brandon and Abby reading, with the caption “Out of Control.”  I had no doubt that he could keep them entertained.  Laurie had come by with Madeline before we had a chance to get back.  Jeff was happy to see an adult!  We’d gone to Target after our workout to get some things for our NYE party and Peyton’s birthday the next day, since most things would be closed.  We hung out with the baby, while the little girls slept.  Meg went out to do more errands, and then the older kids entertained themselves.  Dave and Jeff went to go hit tennis balls for exercise.  Laurie left after Meg had returned, and Dave and Jeff were just getting home.  Soon after showers, another family came over.  They have a four and a half year old and almost two year old.  We had a nice dinner, while the kids all got along.  They played some games, and then we watched the ball drop at 9 pm.  The kids got to drink sparkling cider, while most of the adults had champagne.  After the previous evening, I was happy to have sparkling cider, too.  The family left after a bit, then we sent the kids to bed.  Since they hadn’t left the house and it was late, we let them go to bed without baths.  We cleaned everything up, then made it to the “real” New Year’s.  We headed to bed, knowing the kids would still be up at their usual time.  Peyton had been counting down to her birthday for the whole week, and she was progressively more excited.  She woke up after her birthday time (6:09 am), by around 8 am, and we, in the room, wished her happy birthday.  We planned for a picnic in the park, but this time, I couldn’t run after them.  I was full blown sore by then.  At least I wasn’t sick as much by then.  Peyton was happy wearing her birthday girl shirt and crown at the park.  We took the kids to Yogurtland, since it was one of the few places open.  Meg and I took the kids home for naps, while Dave and Jeff picked up the parents from the Megabus.  They came in for Peyton’s birthday celebration.   We ate dinner at home with Dave’s ribs, and salad that Meg had prepped.  We celebrated with cake that Meg had gotten for Peyton, with purple macarons and strawberries around the cake.  It was perfect for her!  We headed to exercise again on Thursday morning, which was again difficult!  Dave went to run, while Jeff was going to hold down the fort, then leave for his own workout.  However, the grandparents were unavailable for babysitting, so he kept them busy with more books.  He was in librarian mode and picked 4 books for each kid to read.  Another text was sent with the caption “Chaos”.  It did get a bit chaotic once the kids got bored of the books, but nothing that Jeff couldn’t handle.  We got back sooner this time.  Dave, and Jeff went out after lunch to go back and hit balls, but this time, they took Brandon.  I think Dave was worried about taking Brandon, but the little girls were sleeping, and Abby was doing her homework.  There was nothing else for Brandon to do, so I gave him the option to sleep or “do something special with Daddy and Uncle Jeff”.  While they were gone, Abby did her work, while I sat with her and encouraged her.  Peyton woke up first, and she got to watch, then did her own work.  Penelope woke up later, and Abby just finished up when the dads returned.  They both reported Brandon did a great job with some drills and hitting.  Baseball has really helped his coordination!  He had a good time, too!  He loves Uncle Jeff, and I’m sure he was happy to have alone time with them without the other girls around.  Meg had made chocolate chip cookies during the time they were gone.  Peyton was eating one while doing her workbooks, but I think she was distracted, and she didn’t finish the cookie!  I told Meg not to be offended, as she usually savors her desserts, however, Meg witnessed first-hand how she inhaled her cake the night before.  I think that was a special occasion since it was her birthday cake.  Or maybe she was afraid that I would take it away from her to remove the frosting, but I didn’t.  We headed back to the first Chinese restaurant with the grandparents. Grandma got to take delight in the Frozen Experience with the four kids.  By now, the kids had all gotten most of the words down.  Peyton picked it up quickly, and Brandon wasn’t too far behind.  The lyrics were printed out, and when in the car, they were studying them.  After dinner, we headed over to Snowflake again, and Brandon kept it together for his coconut!    He thoroughly enjoyed it as did the other girls with their flavors.  The girls took their last shower together,  And since they were all doing a great job, we let them stay up and play one chapter of Skylanders.  Brandon introduced the Shih girls to the game.  Abby was playing with Brandon and got the hang of it to be a great teammate.  Abby is such a calming influence on Brandon, and is a great role-model for him.  They really play well together.  But I think Peyton gets jealous, like this morning at breakfast, when Brandon wanted to sit next to Abby.  Peyton was trying to stake her claim, and gave him a hug and also wanted to sit next to him.  I told her she’d be sitting next to him for 8 hours, so why start now!? She ended up next to him, with Abby on his other side.  Meg suggested the kids take a photo together then, she had them do jumping jacks to get their energy out before getting in the car.  Dave stopped for coffee, then Brandon stopped at stateline for the potty.  We then headed on our way.  We made pretty good time, and Peyton was asleep much of the first half of the trip.  Brandon fell asleep right after Peyton woke up.  But Dave was stopping again to refill his coffee, so Brandon didn’t have much time to nap. The Shih’s had gotten Peyton her own copy of Frozen for her birthday, along with their own copies of the lyrics, so we had our entertainment right there when they weren’t sleeping.  I think we must have listened to all the songs at least 20 times!  We left at 11 am and didn’t get in until about 730 pm.  It was really sad on our ride back.  A bit like our ride there, when he wouldn’t stop crying about his helicopter that we left behind, and Dave got mad at him for continuing to ask about it, about 30 minutes left of our trip, Brandon was asking when we’d go to Vegas next.  Dave got mad for asking so many times, and finally, he started to cry.  He said he missed his cousins, and finally, I asked him if he wanted to hold my hand.  He did for awhile, but still sobbed in dark.  I asked him if seeing Grandma tomorrow would help, and he didn’t really answer.  I knew he was really sad then!  Peyton was jealous because I was holding Brandon’s hand, but I ignored her.  Finally, I told him we’d try to Facetime his cousins after everyone got showered up.  Brandon perked up.  When we got home, I had to make sure Elfie was gone home, and then we let the kids out.  Brandon was on his best behavior, and went upstairs to shower up.  He came right back down, changed into his jammies, to eat dinner.  He was ready call, but we weren’t quite ready.  Peyton was about to take a bath, but then Brandon told us, “It’s really cold!”  Dave suddenly remembered that he’d turned off our hot water while we were gone.  Brandon had taken a totally cold shower without even complaining!  Poor little guy!  We cancelled Peyton’s shower, since it wouldn’t be warm enough in time.  Brandon explained how he did his bath fast, since it was so cold.  We did facetime the cousins, and I think that helped Brandon.  Both kids went to bed without any problem.  I’m trying to sort through all of the gifts, but it’s a never-ending mound!  We’ll celebrate my dad’s birthday here at home tomorrow.  The kids just want some downtime at home so that they can play with their Christmas toys.  Peyton opened up her birthday gifts we’d left at home.  I didn’t really do a great job of wrapping, but she didn’t care.  She was happy with what she got, even though it was mostly clothes, and the Legos we got at the store before Christmas.  She said, “See, I knew these were for me!”  I’d gotten her a puzzle from Brandon in Vegas for her to open.  He didn’t know that he’d gotten it, but she thanked him anyway.  I just wanted her to have one thing from him to open, since the rest of the stuff was at home.  Pictures may be awhile, since they ware all over the place.  It’s definitely harder to document one week later, but we were having too much fun to do so on the fly!
