Dental check up

Now that Peyton’s been going to the dentist for awhile now, it’s very much routine.  This morning, I asked her how she opens her mouth for the dentist, and she gave me a HUGE open mouth.  We were stuck in a little traffic, so we arrived just on time.  We were in the waiting room long enough for her to see that Toy Story was on.  They called her back, and she was happy to jump onto the chair.  She didn’t lose track of Toy Story, even while they handed her her headset.  Meanwhile, I was taking pictures 🙂

The hygienist was commenting on Peyton’s chubby cheeks.  And how she liked her boots.  I told her how much Peyton likes them, too.  I also mentioned about her upcoming performance today, and that was why she was wearing them, along with the skirt.  She let the hygienist do whatever she needed to do.  The hygienist was telling me what a good patient she was and how still she was being.  When it came time to brush, she asked her what flavor she wanted.  After listening to all the choices, she finally answered on her own: strawberry.  It was a teeny tiny voice, but she said it.  Then, she had another choice, this time for fluoride treatment flavors.  Again, another list of 6-7 flavors.  She waited for all the choices, and then said, “Banana.”  Dr Fridgen came over to examine her, and before he sat down, I told her he was there.  She smiled and looked up.  Waaay up.  Then he asked her to lay back down, and he checked for cavities and counted all her teeth.  He said to keep brushing for her and flossing but NO cavities!  I told him that she makes us floss her, since Brandon gets routine floss.  He said how second kids are so much easier since they have a sibling to follow.  She was then asked if she wanted a balloon, and she nodded.  I just asked her, “Do you want pink or purple?”  She said purple but was brought pink.  I told her it would match her clothes better and she agreed.  She went to go pick her prize – a yellow fluid filled glittery bracelet.  The hygienist was surprised she didn’t pick the pink one.  She knows her so well already!  Then, we were all set to go.  I picked her up so she could put her name on the “No Cavity” club.  Then we headed off to school.  I reminded her she’s a big girl, and that she’d go into her class without tears.  She agreed.  I opened the door, and the kids were already in circle.  She went over to join them, smiled and just waved goodbye. She’s such a big girl already!  I was worried that this would be a disruption, as it usually is, but also because she’s only been in this class for less than a week.  It seems like everyone is really friendly with her.  I picked her up yesterday, and before we left, at least 3 new kids that I didn’t know said bye to her.  She doesn’t say anything back, yet, but when I asked her if she knew their names, she said, “The boy.  His name is Andrew.” I don’t think Sydney is as happy that Peyton moved classes.  I said “Hi” to her, and she just glared at Peyton and me.  Haha…okay, maybe not glare, but she didn’t say hi like she normally does.  Peyton is a traitor.  🙂

Sick again!

I’m not sure if it’s Peyton’s germs, gym germs, or work germs, or a combination of them all but I’m sick. Again. I’d say it’s 5x harder to get the kids to school when I’m not feeling well. And it’s already hard enough when I am. Then I make it to work, and I have to drug up to breathe. Luckily, my colds now are minor, since I’ve been inoculated by daycare germs for the past 5 years, but still, not being 100% is not being 100%. I had wanted to come home and sleep, but Dave’s grill died last weekend, so he’s trying to find a replacement. We all went to go look at his next prospect, then he had to “eat on it”. So we did that, only I wasn’t all that hungry, since I can’t taste much. I think the not breathing part and the not tasting (which are related) are the worst parts of being sick. I went to sleep pretty early last night, around 9pm, and had to flip over sides throughout the night to be able to breathe properly. Today, I’m a little better, but we have Peyton’s dental appointment. That meant that we all dropped Brandon off, and stayed for part of flag salute. I told him I wasn’t planning on coming to lunch with him today. He was disappointed and said, “Wow, that’s like the first time ever.” (I think he meant for a Friday). Plus, I needed a break, since this afternoon, since he’d brought Peyton’s shoes down without being asked, just to be nice, I rewarded him with “10 free minutes”. He gets to spend them however he wants (without breaking rules), and he chose the book faire. So we’ll be going to that after school. Then we’ll have to go line up for Peyton’s school performance. This is a Mother’s day performance, being held a week early. Brandon had the choice of either lining up with me or staying at afterschool. Surprisingly, he chose lining up with me. I told him he could bring things to play with, and we’ll have snacks since we’ll not be at home. He was happy about that. Tomorrow, we have gym, t-ball and Selina’s bridal shower all lined up for the day. Hopefully I’ll regain more percentage points, and be closer to 100%. At least it’s the weekend 🙂

Open House

Tonight was Brandon’s first open house at school. We went right on time, parking about a block a way. We went straight to his room, and he donned a “tour guide” hat that he’d made. He was given a sheet and instructed to show us to the various stations around the room. There was a video playing, and Peyton was enthralled with that. OOH! We broke screen-free week with that! Well, it was showing a slide show of pictures throughout the year. Peyton was watching, while Dave and I were asking Brandon to show us his writing, art work, and other stations. Peyton would shout out, “Oh! There’s Brandon!” Then it was, “Oh, there’s Brandon again!” Brandon was very quiet, and proud to show us his work. His friends would say hello to him, and he was very shy, and just waved or barely whispered hello. He was focused on giving us the tour, getting through the stations. We then went to the first grade classrooms. I pointed out to him how they also have the red, yellow, green system of cards. We went to 5 or so 1st grader classrooms, and he made it his mission to find the card systems. I told him he was practicing while in kindergarten, and he’d have to continue in 1st grade as well. He looked very serious while taking in all that the 1st grade classrooms had to offer. I hope it made an impression on him. We stopped by the after school program to say hello to Miss Erin D. and Miss Komala before going back to enjoy our ice cream. Peyton picked the vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, and the rest of us had chocolate drizzled vanilla. They were tiny cups of ice cream, which was just enough. Peyton was the last to finish, of course, savoring each bite. We went home after about an hour of being there, and started Brandon’s journal article, while Dave gave Peyton a bath. She didn’t get out of the car in time for me to give her a bath. So, she got Dave, and wasn’t happy about it. Brandon finished up, and then he took his bath. We got them both to sleep by 815pm. Last night, it took them about 30 minutes to fall asleep, but tonight, it only took them about 5 minutes.

Cheating

We are cheating on screen week again. But in our defense, we waited for the kids to go to sleep. We were pretty bored from about 745pm to 815pm. Dave came down at 816pm, and said they were asleep. Always good for a laugh

Dave and Brandon were at t-ball practice, while I was going to take Peyton walking to meet them. But as I was telling her to go potty, she told me she’d already gone in her pants. On the stairs. Across multiple ones. So I told her we couldn’t go, since she’d made a mess, we had to stay home to clean it up. I know you aren’t supposed to punish kids for potty training accidents, but she’s been out of diapers for almost a year. And she’d just gone at school. And she knows where the potty is! Anyways, she was upset about it, but got over it. I cleaned up, gave her a bath, then we started to do some of her “kindergarten book from Walgreen’s”. It’s a phrase, said all at once, to distinguish it from other kindergarten books we have. We started to eat dinner after that, and then Dave and Brandon got home. Dave said they were there later because Brandon wanted more practice. He wants to get better at hitting from a pitched ball instead of off the tee. Dave isn’t that concerned with him hitting from pitches, but I think it’s great that Brandon wants to do more! Anyways, this was the conversation that we had:
Peyton: Mommy, do you know what ‘chong lang’ (take a bath) means?
Me: What does it mean?
Peyton: It means take a bath.
Me: Yes, you’re right.
Peyton: Do you know what ‘Ah ah’ means?

Not so funny last night, was Peyton waking up at midnight to come into our room. She told us there was a caterpillar on her wall. I wanted to check it out and see for myself, but I was actually afraid to see a caterpillar! I told Dave to go look, but he shook me off, so I went alone. I didn’t see anything, but shook out her pillow for good measure. Later, Brandon called us, and told us she was in his room. Dave’s turn to go. He separated the kids, and took Violet (Peyton’s purple dog). That was the last of that. This morning I asked her why she was in Brandon’s room. She told me, “We were playing hide and go seek!” Sooo not okay.
