Results just in

We’ve been waiting for the results for the entire afternoon to see how much slower I ran than Dave. I came in at 1:05:35, about a minute slower than I’d clocked on my iPod, but faster than my first 10k two years ago 🙂 I finished 4989th out of 15,000. Not bad, I squeaked into the top 30%.
Dave came in 1:02:23, finishing 4195th. Spelling; Rough night

Yesterday, I showed Brandon the progress he is making on his first grade spelling words. We were given a list of about 50 words, and I did a baseline assessment at the beginning of the summer, then we work weekly on them. He gets points for every word spelled correctly. He’s had a few weeks, and just this Saturday, he only had 6 words he needed to work on! He told me, “When I get to first grade, I will tell my teacher my mom taught me how to spell!” It put a smile on my face 🙂
We went to bed before 11pm last night, since we were planning to get up at 5am for our race. They warned of traffic, so we wanted to get there in time to avoid it and didn’t want to get stuck in it. Peyton obviously didn’t know our plan, as she woke up after midnight coughing. I heard her whining, and we thought she was just calling out to me in her sleep. I heard her moan, and said, “Ma-ma.” She usually calls me Mommy, so that’s what lead me to think she was asleep. I couldn’t sleep hearing her cough, so I got up to check on her. She was sitting upright in her bed, still moaning a bit. She also sounded like she was sobbing, or recovering from sobbing. I picked her up and she continued to cough. I asked Dave to get some honey for her, while I tried to keep her upright. Theresa had just asked me what to give a toddler for a cough, and I’d recommended honey over any OTC products that were out there. The OTC stuff wasn’t deemed as good for kids awhile back between Brandon and Peyton being born, so since that time, I’ve only been using honey, after 1 year. She took it, then I gave her some water to wash it down. I left the room. She was still tossing and turning after I’d gone back to bed, so I went into her room to lay down with her. That helped her relax a bit. She was sweaty, but not hot, so I just cooled her down a bit, and she fell asleep within 5 minutes. I was going to stay with her, but I was anxious about the race and couldn’t get comfortable in her bed. I went back to my own, and I slept again until Peyton came in again to tell us her diaper was wet. It was 345am. Ugh. So Dave went in to change her, then the next thing we knew, the alarm went on at 5am. Dave asked for a 30 minute snooze. I didn’t want to go back to sleep for 30 minutes, so I played some phone games, then got up to get ready. By this time, Brandon was getting up to go potty. I went in to say good morning and good bye to him, and asked him to take care of his sister since she wasn’t feeling well. He agreed, then went back to sleep. We headed out by 6am. This lady could also be reluctant in going by way levitra prices of the discomfort and hardship of carrying and delivering an infant. We got to the parking lot by 645am, hitting no traffic. We took a shuttle to the race start. The bus driver was a bit confused, as he started to take us to the finish line, then had to turn around. Luckily, the race didn’t start until 830am, so we had plenty of time for the detour. We got some muffins since we hadn’t eaten breakfast, then we sat on the curb for awhile eating and trying to stay warm. I was trying to be efficient in using the potty, but my over-nervous/active bladder had to go before race time, for the third time. I was trying to stay hydrated, so I’d had 8 ounces of water on the drive over. It took 30 minutes to get through the throng of people waiting for the port-a-potties. There was no line at 645am when we first got there, and it was unimaginable that there would be a need for that many of them. Little did I know. I met up with Dave so we could start together, then we met up at the finish line. It was perfect weather once we started running, overcast the whole way. I had to put sunblock on at 545am, when there wasn’t even sun up, but luckily, it never got too sunny. The course was a bit crowded, with 15,000 people running. There were a few bottle necks, and in 6 miles, the crowd never really thinned out. It was the 40th running of the race, so it was nice to have gotten a “milestone” race in as our first. Last year we did the 100th B2B, and this year was the inaugural Tinkerbell and 408K. We went out to breakfast after we took the shuttle back to the car. While parking the car, I noticed one of Dave’s ex-coworkers walking down the street. We stopped to chat with her for a little bit, and met her two boys. She wished us a happy “date”, and we went in search of breakfast. We headed home after a small bite to eat. The kids had just finished up lunch, and both were happy to take a nap going to their respective rooms. Peyton fell asleep within 5 minutes, while Brandon took about 15 minutes, but he did go to sleep! I can’t remember the last time he’d actually napped, not in the car. For good reason they were tired. My mom said Peyton woke up at 6am and came down, while Brandon got up at 645am, and immediately started writing his disciplinary sentences. I even awarded him a coupon for doing so without prompting and doing them all, and even fixing the spelling mistake he’d made. They headed up north by 8am, choosing to eat breakfast with my dad versus eating here at home. Mind you, they ate cereal just as they would here, but they just wanted a change of venue. We all went out to dinner for my mom’s birthday, then we left straight to come home to get the kids bathed and in bed for a good start to the new week.

Jet Lag

I have reminded Brandon to make sure he stays in his room until at least 630am. Brandon said, “Oh, I don’t get up until 815am, you know, because I’m still on Hawaii time.” He’s gotten mad at me several times when I’ve woken him up too early, too, telling me he’s too tired and not ready to get up for school. My mom reminded him, too, since she’s staying overnight while we race tomorrow. She didn’t want Brandon to get in trouble with me, so she was just trying to warn him. Busy morning

We went in to school a bit later than normal, since Miss Tarez was going on a field trip and wouldn’t be back until later today, after we normally pick Peyton up on a Friday. She gets in around 815 to 830am. Both kids woke up at 615am, ready to start their day. Dave showered first, while I had kids rolling around in the bed, then I switched out with Dave. We ate breakfast after Dave left – Brandon with some oatmeal, while Peyton had her standard Cheerios. We headed off to school, and Miss Tarez was in the front area, so Brandon and she caught up while I dropped Peyton off. Her friend A was already there and greeted her. She was happy to play even though it was a departure from her usual routine. I hugged her goodbye and told her I’d see her later. Brandon and I headed to KP to get a check on his stats. I had them check out his bp, height, and weight. It’s been almost 6 months since last doing so, and I wanted to check in with that. BP was great, at 88/52 with a pulse of 86. We went to the library after, and I told him he could pick out any three books. Of course, he selects 1) Star Wars (I limited him to only one), 2) Spiderman, and then one book that he thought Abby had (Magic Tree house). They are more challenging books, but if the interest in the subject is there, hopefully it’ll keep him reading. We came home, had a snack, and started earning play time. At around 1130am, he asked me if we were going to go back out for scooter time after nap. I told him he should go to his room to lie down to rest, and he did not complain. He stayed there quietly for 40 minutes before coming back down. I’ll take him resting if not sleeping to have him calm his body down for at least a short period of time during the day! He’s back and up and at ’em!

Thriving

A play on our company’s motto. I was so excited to run at lunch today. My coworker on Wednesdays is out of the office, and normally we walk, but she’s asked me to slow down for her in the past. But since she’s out of town, I’m on my own. I packed my running clothes, got all my stuff (head band, charged up ipod, shoes, transponder, etc, etc). If I forget any of these, the running experience isn’t the same, and may not even happen (no ipod, no run). I brought a hat to hide from both people and the shade. I scarfed down my salad before changing then heading out. Because Bonnie and I saw a sketchy person on Monday while walking around, I decided to be a little more cautious. I’m usually paranoid anyway when I’m alone, but this time, I messaged Bonnie the time that I left, and told her I’d check in with her when I got back. I took just my key, phone, and ipod. I started our normal way out to the lake, then took one of the shorter paths to stay closer to civilization. I think it made me run faster, as I had to run by him on a narrow strip of land between the two lakes. If my ipod was correct, I was running a 9:40 minute mile, which is way faster than my normal time; probably because I was scared! I did two full laps around the smaller lake, then ran in the shade a bit before turning around. I had set my run for 5K, and by the time I made it back to the parking lot, I’d reached my goal. I slowed to a walk to avoid run-ins with cars or worse, fellow coworkers coming back in from lunch. I had to have some time to hose down (good thing I’d brought a towel, my lesson learned last year). Good thing I don’t have patients later this afternoon, and will only have to make phone calls. Hopefully they don’t drop in unexpectedly. I wore a skirt to help cool down faster, since shorts aren’t allowed. I have 10 minutes to finish up my fruit and relax. I’m done for the day! Dave has his turn later today, so that was also a motivating factor for me to “getter dun” at lunch.

Smiley faces

One of the things the teacher wanted me to work on with Peyton is how to draw smiley faces. Her faces are usually frowns, or the mouths are straight lines, not smiles. So, I practiced with her, drawing a circle, then adding eyes, nose and mouth. She wanted to draw the whole family, so she drew a big circle and said, “Here’s Daddy. He has a big face.” She also started with the eyes half way down the circle, giving the face a huge forehead. I texted Dave (it’s like a silent intercom) who was upstairs to come down to see it. He immediately looked at it, and asked Peyton who she was drawing. She smiled, “YOU!” Then Dave asked her, “Who’s Mommy?” She pointed to the one with hair, that was smaller, and said, “The little one.”

Overnight diaper

Peyton was better about keeping her overnight diaper dry while we were on vacation than she had been at home. I think it’s because we’re right there, and she wakes up and goes. Whereas at home, she rolls around in bed, and is too lazy to get up and go. I’d often check her in the middle of the night to check her progress, and she would be dry. So, I thought it was possible she could hold it all night long. Today, after she came into our room, I felt her, and she was dry. I got her up, and I went first, then she went after I was done. She said, “Now, I can have my purple toenail polish.” I told her in the past, if she kept her diaper dry for 2 weeks, we can use the nail polish. In thinking about it again, she has no concept of 2 weeks. We used to reward Brandon every time he went in the potty. She was excited about that, so tonight, she reminded me. I used the kiddie polish I’d gotten and told her to pick a toe. Smarty pants picked the biggest nail! She even told me, “And tomorrow, when I keep my diaper dry, I will do this one (and pointed to her second toe).” She later asked about her fingers, too, but I didn’t want her to have that all the time, since she still chews her finger nails quite a bit. I am hoping for the end of the diaper era very soon. Brandon was 3 when he potty trained, and out of diapers by 3.5 years. Peyton was trained at a little over 2 years old, and is right on track with her brother in terms of graduating out of diapers. Of course, any money we’re saving on diapers is going straight to food. These kids are eating us out of house and home!

Today, I got a friend notification from my HS AP English teacher. I was a bit surprised, but definitely, it was cool to see! I “friended” him right away, and even thanked him. Little Alarm Clock

Today, as every morning, Peyton came into our room. Dave was going to send her back to her room, then I looked at the clock. 645am! My alarm normally goes off at 6:21 am, and I snooze (9 minutes each) twice. So, this was after that time already, so I got up to get ready. Brandon was still out cold! Like mouth gaping open, head tilted back. This is his absolutely tired pose, usually reserved for the car naps when he fights the midday nap. Seeing him in bed this way was humorous to me. I wanted him to sleep as long as possible, so we all got ready as quietly as we could. Peyton was racing me to change, and it was funny to see her as a flurry of movement, trying to take her clothes off. She kept her diaper dry!! She really wants purple toe nail polish that I’d promised her if she kept her diaper dry for two weeks. I was thinking of changing that to one purple toe nail for each dry diaper. That might make more sense than two weeks to her. She finished changing before I did, and she went downstairs. I quickly changed to get there to supervise her. She had grabbed her bowl and spoon and sat waiting at her spot. She’s not tall enough to get the Cheerios down, but I think she’d try if she was. I went back to his room to do another once over, and then saw him in the dark laundry room, mesmerized by the fish tank. His hands were behind his back, keeping his hands off the tank as Dave had requested. He was quietly watching them. I got him back into his room, and requested he change. I told him to change his clothes, brush his teeth, and then come downstairs to go. I told him he could have breakfast in the car, since he was getting off to a late start. He didn’t complain too much; I think the blueberries helped. Though, he didn’t want them, as he said they were sour. I think the toothpaste residue didn’t make it so tasty. Peyton finished the rest, and she said they were a bit sour, too. Yet, she finished them. I got to work just on time, so I have to give credit to my little alarm clock!!

FISH!

Dave has been working to get a functional fish tank these past couple of days.  I was content with a small little bowl to put Brandon’s free fish in somewhere in the house.  But OH NO!  Dave has to be fancy.  So we now have a 20 gallon tank, a filter, light, rocks, and today, he brought home some “starter”fish.  He said they were feeder fish, and as soon as I noticed they were there (I was doing laundry when I saw the fish in the tank), I saw a little fish who wasn’t doing so well.  There were 4 same sized fish, and then one skinny fish.  Peyton came running in to see, and then Brandon, from downstairs, came running in.  Peyton saw the fish I was talking about as soon as Dave said, “Oh, that’s the minnow.”  Peyton said, “OH, MINNIE!”  I saw that the other fish were pecking at Minnie, so he let them out of the bag, and Minnie was free.  Only she was swimming sideways. And then letting the current take her around.  Not a good Your day to day interactions with your life partner can tadalafil 20mg feel less and not so much fulfilled but rather more and more undesirable.
