Today was the kids’ first day of their golf session for spring. Peyton got picked up by CDC then went to the field. I asked Peyton if Brandon listened, and she said, “Yes,” and then asked Brandon if Peyton listened. He said, “Yes.” Then Peyton said, “But we were in separate lines, so I don’t really know if he was listening.” There were only 15 kids, and two teachers. Brandon said the head coach is a lefty, too. I told him, “Lefties are pretty awesome, right?” He slowly nodded his head. I think this is the only thing we see eye to eye on 🙂 Everything else is a struggle to come to common ground. When I asked CDC if they knew how they did, the head told me she wasn’t there, but knew that Peyton was hungry! She thought she was made to work for that hour out there. When I asked if he had fun, Brandon said, “I had a little fun.” Peyton, on the other hand, said she had a great time! She was hitting plastic balls off a mat on the field. Birthday Celebration
This morning was Brandon’s friend party. He had invited 9 friends from school and seven had responded yes. The kids woke up and read their required minutes, then Dave headed out to get the food while the kids ate breakfast. We arrived at the Laser place about 10 minutes before the party was to start, and a few boys arrived early – Carter and Wyatt. Then, Ryan, Jayden, Josh, Edwin and Clay arrived. Just as we had gathered everyone, Jack, who had not responded, showed up with his dad! So, we had enough of the passes, as Dave had purchased 15. That also included Peyton, and us. Two parents joined us after some coaxing, as they were just going to hang out. Jayden is in 1st grade, and knows Brandon from baseball, so it was probably best that his dad stayed. Heather is Dave’s co-lead on science night, and we’ve known her since kinder, so she stayed, too which was great, since she knew most of the boys. First, they wished Brandon a happy birthday:
We all went into the dark room, and I helped Peyton, while the boys were self-sufficient. They got all their gear on together, and we headed in to the dark room with our lasers. There is an adrenaline rush, and I tried to stay with Peyton, but kept getting hit by her, so I took off. Every mom for herself! My code name was “Big Momma”, and I didn’t want to hang around and get shot up! The first round, if you get hit or hit someone else, your laser is rendered useless for 5 seconds. It allows you to get away from your either victim or attacker. I did run into Peyton a few times, and it’s a bit like Hunger games, where I just let her run around and tried to stay away from her to avoid her hitting me, but I didn’t want to hit her either. I had no problems shooting at the boys, especially the big ones from the other party. They were ruthless! I got caught a few times by Dave, too, so I tried to stay away from him, too. After about 10 minutes, the game is over, and we all met outside. It was hard to keep track of all the boys, both inside and out, but we were able to all find each other outside. I took pictures of the leaderboard, and the big boys dominated. They were strategic and helped each other out. The host played a fun game of “ZAP”. He was explaining the rules of the game, but I think Peyton was totally lost. Brandon hung in until the last few players, but didn’t survive to the end.
Next was the second round. Now that everyone had the hang of it, the refractory period of a tag was only one second. This meant you had to get out of the way quickly! Dave and I had more strategy this time, and we covered each other to attack the older kids. We went on the offensive. One kid thought he was slick and had his back to the wall, but he was against a grate. He was up high, and I was down low, shooting him in the back sensor. I heard him ask, “Who’s hitting me?!” I again went in the opposite direction of Peyton to avoid hitting her or being hit by her, since she was delighting in that. She was following me around and shooting me in the back. Dave did get a couple of friendly fire shots (or were they…), and we re-grouped after another 10 minutes. This time, I went from 14th to 5th out of 26 people. But those big boys won again! Peyton said she got hit on the head by a girl inside, but that girl did check in on her. She’s a tough one! After that, we headed to our party room for lunch. We washed up and offered the boys sandwiches and chips. We had oranges and veggies (totally boring parents, but may have redeemed ourselves with veggie straws?), and chatted with the parents. Brandon didn’t want a cake, rather cupcakes, so we sang to him with a candle in the small burnt almond cake he selected, while the other boys and Peyton had their pick of cupcakes.
The parents started to arrive by this time, and the boys headed out one by one. We packed up our stuff and headed out. Peyton went to take a nap, while the boys headed out for baseball practice. We’ll now get up and go to the library to get her prize for 900 books. Peyton started “Anne Frank” after I found it in our stash of books. I want her to finish the 1000 books first, then we can concentrate on reading it together. She seems fascinated that it’s a real story that a real little girl wrote. She’s not been into non-fiction, but maybe this will be the way to get her into it.
I talked to Peyton about zap when we got home. I told her, “The guy talked really fast, huh?” I explained to her about the rules, and she started to get sad and then cry. I told her next time, she’ll get it, and we can practice at home.

As the kids were eating dinner, we were talking about Peyton’s next birthday party at the laser place since she had so much fun. She said, “Yeah!” Brandon responded with, “But you’re not even good at it!” She retorted, “But I got you!” Haha. You go, Peyton.
“Old” picture
The wife of one of the coaches on Peyton’s team this year hosted the father daughter dance last year at school. She was talking about the dance again this year, and I’d mentioned that Peyton went even though she wasn’t attending the school yet. It prompted me to look up their picture and scroll through pictures now that we know more families. Here’s what I came up with:

Funny vocabulary
It’s funny to hear certain words being used, like “inappropriate”, and “disgusting” from Peyton. I don’t remember if Brandon used such words at 6, possibly, but I’ve just forgotten. Today, while I was helping Peyton with her shower, since I wanted to make sure she got a good hosing off, I turned on the water while she was in the shower. She’d jumped in to pee in it (gross, I know), then I turned the water on to warm up. Click on shop viagra reviews now and observe your hope start to develop. You’re torturing me!” Really…I have no idea what she knows about torture!! She has no idea; hopefully she’s never been a waterboard victim in a former life.
Full Swing of Things
This morning, our team was the home team, so Dave went out to rake the field at 7:10 am. He took Brandon with him, while I worked on getting Peyton ready. We had stayed out a bit late last night, so she was a bit sluggish. I fed her breakfast, and got her out to the field to warm up with Dave by 745 am. However, Dave was still working on the field, so she ended up going to play on the structure with Brandon. She ended up getting some condensation on her clothes, and she was distracted when the other team arrived. The other parents helped out with the finishing touches, and Peyton’s team arrived at 815 am. The girls seemed more content playing on the structure rather than warming up. I finally pulled Peyton off the structure, and she headed to get herself in the game. I was told she’d be lead off batter the first inning and home run hitter the second. She was in the field first, and got to play pitcher, her favorite position. She’s been wanting to softball pitch for awhile, but at this stage, she’s just fielding, not pitching. She was a little tentative with her fielding, and tried to bare hand her fielding a bit, but she was doing okay. She got quite a few balls that first inning, as most of the shots were right up the middle. After the side had batted around, the Stingrays came off the field to bat. When I asked her what was going on with the bare handed fielding and why she wasn’t using her glove, and that she should get her glove “dirty”, she balked! She was hesitant to do so saying she didn’t want to get it dirty! I told her that’s why her glove was brown, so it would hide the dirt. I told her that’s what she’s SUPPOSED to do to field.
She was happy to be first up to bat. I walked over to the other side to film her at-bat. She had two big strikes, but connected with the third.
After her team batted around, she was put in left field. This wasn’t enough to keep her attention, though she did get a ball hit out to her, which she got her glove dirty to field and threw to first. She was homerun hitter for this inning
, and then in right field for the final inning. By now, the girls were all melting in the warming sun. They were looking a bit worn out. One player left for a Girl Scouts event (Coach’s daughter). Last at bat:
After the final at bat, the team huddled up and gave a cheer for the other team. They gave hi fives, then had their snack. We took off to go to Brandon’s game. They were playing Dave’s former head coach’s team, so we were familiar with his kids and some of the players on his team. Brandon was playing pitcher, too!
We got to see one at-bat for Brandon. I had to go into the opposite team’s area (second time today!) to capture this
A 2-RBI single!
We were able to stay for about 30 minutes, then we had to go to event #3 of the morning, Peyton’s friend’s birthday party. Luckily, all of our events were within 3 miles of one another. Peyton changed in the car, and we headed to the cooking place! The kids were going to make lasagne in honor of the birthday girl. This was a trial run for the place, since they had never done it before, according to Orion’s mom. Peyton was one of the first few guests to arrive, and she said hi to Orion and gave her her present. She adjusted well, found a chef’s hat to decorate, washed her hands, all with O and her friends. Sydney arrived, and I asked her dad what they did between softball and the party. Syd still had her softball ribbon in her hair! They went shopping for the gift. The girls sat next to each other, and soon the party got started. I had checked in with Peyton to see if I could go back to Brandon’s game, and she told me, “No, stay with me!” She totally didn’t need me, but I enjoyed staying to take pictures. Half of the girls grated zucchini, while Peyton and the other girls cut up the fresh herbs with scissors. Then, they changed jobs, but one of the girls had grated her finger, so I hovered close to her when she grated up the squash she had. She stopped before it was too grated, and I was relieved there was not an injury for her. The other girl was hyper-ventilating at the sight of blood, and her mom had to calm her down. I didn’t want to look at her either, as I didn’t want to see blood! They moved on to cut out the pasta. They used a round cutter to make their bottom two layers, then a scalloped one for the top. She even made a hidden Mickey with her circles. The zucchini went into the cheese sauce, and was one of the layers, along with marinara sauce. The lasagne went in to bake, while the girls decorated cupcakes. Peyton picked a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. After they were all done with decorating, they still had 8 minutes left to go for baking. The girls were told to wait for the lasagne first, then eat the cupcakes. They played a game of Pictionary while their cupcakes sat just a few inches from their noses. I was commenting how if the party were all boys, the cupcakes would be demolished. I know that would be the case if it was Brandon, for sure! The girls didn’t pick at the cupcakes; they didn’t even touch them! After the game, they were served their individual lasagnes. The adults were each offered a spoonful to taste the one the teacher made. It was yummy! I’d been snacking on fruit, veggies and nuts that the host provided, and passed on the brie 🙁 I guess I got a little cheese, but I wanted to see what it tasted like, but didn’t want Peyton’s “love” in my food, so I didn’t try hers. I don’t like zucchini (Peyton doesn’t either), but it was so incorporated in the lasagne, it was hard to tell! She declined sausage, so it was a veggie lasagne. She ate her whole mini pie tin, and then had some green beans, and fruit. The host passed around chips, and of course, Peyton didn’t decline those! Finally, Peyton got to enjoy her cupcake, and even got a coffee jellybean and was GIDDY! They played some more games, though she and Sydney were taking their time, savoring their cupcakes. We thanked our guests and took home a favor for Brandon, too. We got home in two minutes, and it was nap time for both of us. Luckily, Brandon and Dave were heading out, since they had errands to run for his friend party tomorrow. Peyton woke up after about an hour, and came down to cuddle. Brandon and Dave returned by this time, and we practiced piano before heading down to event #4. We arrived just as the Chang’s had, and Bonnie was already there. The Kao’s were headed down shortly behind us, as I’d texted on the way down. The boys were coming prepared with Beyblades to “battle”. Brandon prepared two for Marcus’ birthday that he customized. He handed them to him, then told him they were old. I need to talk to Brandon about tact! They did this for a bit while the Pham twins arrived. At some point, Brandon started to eat, and eat, and eat! Peyton wasn’t interested at first, then after awhile, she joined the eating party. She ate one taco, then had chips, as she saw Brandon eating them. Brandon helped himself after awhile, and found the fruit and cheese inside. Dave took Peyton across the street to the park to play, while Brandon was hanging out with the boys inside. It was much easier to hang out and chat when the two were separated. They returned after awhile, and she told me she got hit with the ball on the chin. She said it hurt her ear to chew. I asked her if she cried, and she said she did. Poor baby. Dave told me that Brandon got hit recently in the chest and popped up to his chin and cried. I’m glad I don’t have to see it. It would make me cringe for sure, since both don’t tend to cry in public for something like that unless they are really hurt. Brandon more than Peyton. Luckily, she recovered and continued to play with Dave. She came back for fruit, and playing with the kids. Finally, cake was being served. Brandon was handed a huge piece, and since he’d already had a donut earlier in the day. He dutifully scraped off the frosting, then I caught him dipping his fork in the frosting and reaching up to his mouth. I was still watching and asked him what he was doing. He motioned back to continue to scrape his fork. I told him to share half with his sister. He ate the upper half of the cake, then some of the second part before handing it over to his sister. I didn’t think he ‘heard’ me to share with her. And she didn’t complain either, and ate her strawberries and portion of the remaining cake. She’d had dessert already, too, so she was done after that. She threw her plate away and headed back to play. At this point, things were a little bit more frenetic since they were all sugared up. We let them stay a little longer, and we all headed out about the same time. It was easier to leave with someone else, since the kids didn’t feel like they were missing out on anything. We said a happy birthday again to T, and we were given more treats on the way out. Peyton showered up, even more so because she was rolling around on grass, and they were both in bed by 8 pm. PHEW…here are the pictures:

Lazy People!
This morning, I drove the kids to school, did the art lesson, and came home. I changed, and headed back out on foot. I went to Peyton’s class lunch time, hung out with them, and then while the kids went to dance class, I finished up an art project. V was cute and noticed at lunch that I’d changed. And put it together that every time we have art class, I come back at lunch in a different outfit. And when the kids came back to class after dance, V saw me again and said, “You’re STILL here!?” So observant! Brandon headed over from his class when his bell rang. I was still in the classroom, and both of them were inside, then disappeared. The teacher was talking to another parent about her child, and I wanted to just get my thing done, but some of the paint was wet. Brandon asked me, “Where’s your car parked?” I told him, “At home.” He started complaining immediately, and asked “WHY?!” Peyton looked at me and said, “Are you serious?” Brandon asked if I could go get the car. She got stuck while we crossed the street, so I relieved her of duty while we crossed the streets, and gave her the bag back when we were at a straight away. After about a half-mile, she was really lagging. It was hot, she was tired, and I tried to convince her that just walking was way easier than pulling a bag that weighed as much as her! Finally, she gave it up, Brandon took his bag, and we trudged home the rest of the way. We didn’t have piano time, since swim was earlier than usual. I didn’t have to deal with piano drama until after swim, shower and snack. Phew…
Telling It Like It Is
We went to pick up a key from another manager for softball so Dave can prepare the field before Peyton’s home game tomorrow. It’s bright and early, but Dave has Brandon’s game, so he has to head over there after he’s done. The other manager was a pretty big dude, and he was asking Peyton some questions. She responded! A-mazing! Simple stuff like, “How was opening day?” and “How was your first game?” “Good”. “Do you like softball?” “Yes.” But still, we’ve got words. We went to dinner, and she was falling asleep at the table. There was a little gnat flying around Dave, and Brandon saw it. I saw it, too, but before I barely said, “There’s a…” Brandon said to Dave, “You must be smelly. Because gnats only fly around stuff that’s smelly.” If only he knew what I was thinking at that moment…hahaha…Brandon’s a funny guy. Dinner was all the way by swimming, and the kids recognized it. They (almost) had the pool to themselves today! One diver got in and was trying on wetsuits, and floating around while talking to the guys helping him.
They look like synchronized swimmers, and less like they are anything about racing:

While I was helping the docent today, I was talking to the other mom and she asked me if I wanted more kids. We were talking about pre-K and TK since her son did a year of kinder at private school. I asked her what school he went to just to be conversant, and she responded “FA”. I was shocked! It’s such a small school, so out of the blue! We were trying to figure out if the kids were ever there at the same time, since she has a 4th grader as well. We may have, and just been in different classrooms, but what a small world!
