Guests!

Peyton and Brandon have been looking forward to the Yin’s visit.  But first, I left to get to my snack shack duty at 745 am. I worked from 8 to 10 then headed over to Peyton’s  game that was just starting on the same field. Brandon was bored and hanging around the snack shack fully dressed for his game.  Peyton was playing different positions, but still played pitcher for her third inning.  She put together two strikes, but couldn’t put it all together for one batter.  The coach had to take over for each batter she faced. At one point, she had bases loaded and the coach pitched to his girl.  The girl hit it back to Peyton who scooped it up and made a sharp throw to home plate. It was a perfect strike to catcher who was awaiting the throw.  The catcher caught it for the force out. Later, the coach said it was his favorite play!  I commended Peyton on knowing where to go. She told me, “But everyone was telling me where to throw.”  Dave missed it because he’d left for Brandon’s game by then.  After Peyton’s game, we headed home to go potty and then headed to Brandon’s game. I’d asked Peyton to bring something to do, and she told me she just wanted to watch the game. We got there just as the game was starting.  Peyton didn’t last long watching the game. WAT!

All of us went to school this morning in preparation for the big event – Walk a Thon and Auction! Dave was putting up signs, while I was helping him and random other people set up canopies. I was meeting up with sponsors for the tshirt but that didn’t happen until later. I forgot my phone charging at home, so I ran home quickly to get it. The kids saw me at recess, and of course, Peyton said hi. Brandon ignored me. The kids were dismissed, and we all got ready to go line up to get started. The kids were super excited! They were on course by 1 pm, and they were to keep going until 4 pm. I waited with water for awhile, then went to help pass out prizes. Dave was punching lap cards for the last shift. By 4 pm, the kids were all done walking, while we were wrapping up with the auction. I’d bid on front row seats to the drama performance and won! No pressure, Brandon 😉
We headed out by 430 pm, even though we didn’t stay to help break the course down like last year. We had to head to Peyton’s first softball game for the season. She was complaining about her “ankles” hurting, but she was fired up. She was the second to bat, and ended up with two hits, and one strike out. She played short stop for one inning, then first base and then pitcher. She got a swinging strike and a looking strike in one batter. She was just one strike away from getting a strike out! But she couldn’t keep it together for another strike. She did hold her own, and she got out of the inning with no runs. She also fielded a ball that was hit back to her to throw to her first basewoman, getting the put out. It was a great play! Even though she pitched mostly balls, she kept her composure. She didn’t get frustrated; she just did her thing. Most of them rolled in the dirt, but it didn’t stop her resolve. That’s a big deal for her! And the fact that she was able to get two strikes in a row was pretty exciting to see. The final score was 3-1 or 2-0 (apparently, Dave and I were watching different games). It started to get really cold! Brandon had been playing on the structures and had made a friend to play tag with, but he came over when he was too cold. We ended our evening by eating warm Thai noodle soup, close to what we’d found in Thailand. The restaurant staff remembered Dave and Brandon and said, “You brought the rest of your family this time!” We all enjoyed the soup, while Peyton had her own noodles, since it was a bit spicy. We came home and Peyton showered and went to sleep. Brandon had some cleaning up to do, but he finally went down to sleep, too. No rest for the weary tomorrow. I have snack shack duty, while Peyton has her next game at 10 am, then Brandon’s is at 12 pm. I’m soooo looking forward to Sunday morning.

Peyton’s “ankles” being sore were her heels. And I logged 13000 steps without even walking more than a few laps on purpose. I went through with Peyton on two laps, but otherwise, she was on her own. She beat brandon 45 to 42. She didn’t beat her record last year, but she’d walked over a short period of time this year. I’m proud of them for being independent with their laps, and hanging out with their friends to get their laps in. Peyton said she “hung out with my friends” in the VIP lounge. Daniel did a whopping 59 laps and he said he didn’t want to walk with Peyton. Oops. She had Caleb to fall back on, and she also had her girls, V, and H.

St Patrick’s Day

Today, I got to school early to help distribute walk a thon t-shirts to the teachers. Brandon didn’t have band, so he came over to Peyton’s class. She didn’t see me, as I came from the opposite side of the walkway. She had her trap in her hands, and she was excited to tell me all about the missed opportunity. Time back! 

The fields were closed again today!! That meant Peyton could go to her GS meeting.  I had all her clothes ready to go for her game, but we switched gears.  Bonnie graciously drove us to the CE event today. We had a long day, but I came back to the school to pick up Peyton. I got her dinner and showered up before heading to the meeting. Dave was holding practice for Brandon’s team.  We went to the meeting, and I worked on an activity with her before I had to leave with another mom to our PTA meeting.  We were being voted into the board! After we were introduced, the nominations took place. “Anyone oppose?”  Silence.  It’s like when you get married and the officiant asks, “Does anyone not approve of this marriage?”  You wait and hope for no response.  Well, after a few seconds of silence, we were officially voted in. Phew. Two years I believe is term.  After school programs chair, here we go! 

When I got home, the kids were just going down.  Luckily, the meeting ended early. Here’s what I found:

My piano-playing athlete!

I picked Brandon up from CDC today, and we headed straight to the field where Peyton was practicing. It was supposed to be black top practice, but the team must have migrated to the field. Peyton was doing fielding drills when we first got there. Brandon was reading next to me. Then, she moved over to the fielding station, where they were learning how to catch pop ups. She’d then fire back the ball to the coach. I had visions of him getting popped in the nose, but he’d back up a bit every time she threw it. He even said something to her, but I was too far away, so I didn’t hear it. I missed seeing her hit, but when we got home, she told me, “Coach G told me when I was hitting the ball at the end of the stick (skilz stick), ‘You have good eye hand coordination.'” I asked her, “You mean hand eye coordination?” She said, “Um, ya.” I told Dave that Peyton was firing it at the coach, and I was worried about injury. I’m not sure if it’s a relative arm compared to teammates or if it’s really HER arm. I’m sad tomorrow as Brandon has a game right during Peyton’s game, and each game is their first. Peyton will miss her girl scout meeting tomorrow, and I will be late to the PTA meeting, but it’s all worth it to get to watch their games. Her bag is packed with her clothes and gear tomorrow. Dave complains so much more about Brandon’s mechanics than he does about Peyton. But Peyton isn’t as open to correcting mistakes when they do occur. She gets upset when she is corrected.
