Parents’ Day! Operation: Early Bedtime

Today was the long-awaited (okay, like all of this month) parents’ performance. Peyton told me that the song was a secret, and every time it came up on the radio, she told me to turn the song, “because it was a secret.” Oops…anyway, Dave dropped her off with her outfit (spring colors). I went to work, worked almost a full day, then headed over to school to line up at the door. I was the first one there, and shortly after, the line started behind me. I had to listen to more annoying parent banter, with this dad, holding an eleven month old, telling the parents around him, “We tell the kids not to hit first, but if they are hit, we tell them to don’t hold back! And hit back.” I seriously almost decked the guy there and see what he would’ve done. I had to text Michelle to vent right then and there; I couldn’t believe this tool and what he is teaching his kid. His kid was in the three year old class, and he was bragging how he wanted them not to back down. Maybe it’s because his kids are puny; I don’t know because I didn’t want to look him in the eye lest I say something to him directly. But we’ve never told Brandon to hit back. We told him if he did, he’d go to jail. Dave’s wanted to, because of Brandon’s size, he’d put the stop to whatever was going on, but in his mind, he knows better. He’s so much bigger than his peers, he could totally hurt someone. Anyway, we were let in early, and I sat in the same spot I’ve been in the last few times. Peyton’s class was the last class performing, so Dave had time to make it. Orion’s family sat behind us, so we started talking, which was welcomed. She knows Joyce from high school, and she saw our DC run pictures on FB. Soon, the performance started. Dave showed up on time, but joined me after the first class had performed. After sitting through the next three classes, Peyton’s group was finally up. They actually sang the same songs that Brandon did three years ago! The classics – Honey Bunch and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. Then their final number was “Happy” which is the new song out on the radio. Peyton pulled a Britney Spears and when she went down on one of her moves, flashed her underwear to the crowd! Oops, I didn’t know they were doing a “physical” routine, otherwise, I would have put shorts on underneath 🙂 She also had a wardrobe malfunction in her headband. She kept fiddling with it, but in the end, she performed both singing and dancing. I didn’t have to worry about entertaining Brandon, but I missed my videographer. I did my own videographing, while Dave took pictures and had the big camera on the tripod. Afterward, we headed to the playground for snacks. Peyton didn’t want to wait for me in line for food, and she ran off. Dave came back with the kite, and Peyton and he went to fly it. I brought snacks over, and proceeded to eat the fruit in front of her. She thought she’d get some, but I told her she didn’t get any because she didn’t wait with me. After flying the kite for awhile, she wanted to go back and get her own snack. She was hesitant to, but she finally asked Ms Sandeepa for a rice krispie treat. Ms Sandeepa told me that her class made them! She wanted fruit, too, but since she didn’t ask Ms Barbara, she didn’t get any. We went back to the car, and she was whining how she didn’t get any fruit. Dave had left to go get Brandon by then. I told her she has to ask for what she wants, or she won’t get anything. I have to prepare her for kindergarten next year, and being a little fish in a big pond. She asked for food at home. Brandon came home, and he did well at CDC, given it was his 5th day in a row, and a late day at that. Carter was the teacher today. Brandon was grumpy since he didn’t want to listen to Carter. I think he was a bit jealous, since his week was last week, but he made some poor choices, and had to delay his teaching day. Dave headed to bed as he was feeling run down from a long week. I was going to take the kids to the library to pick up the free book Brandon had earned. Then, I was going to take them out for dinner (lofty goals, I know!) I looked up when the library closed, and it was already past the time. I changed plans and went into operation: early bedtime (aka restore order!). I warmed up the pasta Dave had made for Wednesday, and both kids ate dinner at home. I rushed them so we could read together. Actually, Brandon had sentences for pushing his sister, so he did that while Peyton hurried to read with me. We got 20 minutes in of reading for Peyton before it was lights out. Brandon got through about half of his sentences (120 in total), and at 745 pm, I dismissed him, and he jumped into bed, too. With both kids in their beds, I headed out to the gym for a run. Let my weekend begin 🙂
