Baseball Exhaustion; A Little Bit; You’re Fired! SELFIE

Yesterday, the kids didn’t go to sleep until after 830 pm. Baseball games mid-week are brutal. Peyton had fallen on the bleachers, trying to get away from Alana, who was in her face while she was eating her sweet potato. Yvonne asked Peyton if Alana was bothering her, and Peyton nodded. But the 2 year old is persistent. She wanted Peyton to play hide and go seek with her, but Peyton told her no. She was climbing up to the next riser behind me, and she slipped, and fell. She hit both her forehead and cheek simultaneously, and though I kept telling her she was okay, there was an indentation forming on her forehead. I hadn’t even noticed her cheek, until that started puffing up. Luckily, Yvonne pulled some ice out of her water, and we put that on Peyton’s face. She recovered, and was back to running away later in the game. This morning, I wanted to go in early, so I woke up with the first alarm and didn’t snooze. I got ready, and there was no life coming from either kid’s room. I went to get Peyton first, since she takes longer. I changed her while she had her eyes still shut. She didn’t help me at all, and was just a sack of rice, like in her baby days. Once she was fully changed, I picked her up to carry her to brush her teeth. Only when I said, “Look at your hair!” did she perk up and started doing her own thing. Then, it was my turn to get Brandon. Brandon was out cold, and when I woke him, he looked confused. He immediately looked at the clock. I handed him some shorts for the day, and he looked like he was going back to sleep! Finally, he got up and at ’em, and I only go in to work just a bit earlier than I wanted. I did leave at lunch to help out with the Teacher’s Appreciation luncheon. We served food to the teachers, then joined them for lunch before heading back to work. I picked up both kids, then headed over to baseball practice. I dropped Peyton off, then headed home with Brandon to do homework. We didn’t make it back to the school, since Brandon had to concentrate on his homework. Peyton and Dave took awhile to get home, and Brandon speculated, “Well, Peyton probably hit Yoav again, and then Daddy’s probably yelling at her on the field, because it’s been a long time, and they aren’t home!” They did come home much later, and Dave brought home dinner for them. Brandon and I had already eaten, so he was ready for bed as soon as they got home. He even asked me if he could sleep in tomorrow. WOW! At least they went to sleep earlier, since Peyton’s practice doesn’t go as late as Brandon’s.
While Peyton was eating her dinner, I was asking Dave if Peyton was listening better at practice. Dave said it was better, but she still had her moments. While he was talking, facing me, she was motioning with her hand, showing me an inch, while scrunching up her face, mouthing, “Just a little bit.” Dave had no clue she was doing this until I told him later. I reinforced that she should be listening to Coach, so she can get better.

The other day, Peyton was helping us clip the ends of the green beans. She loves this job. She loves eating the green beans even more. But, she got a bit confused about which part of the green bean to throw into the trash versus the colander. Well, she didn’t throw the green bean away, but Dave found some ends in the colander, and asked Peyton, “What is this?” Peyton responded, “Oopsies!” Dave told her, “You’re fired!” Peyton’s response was to break out into song with, “This girl is on FI-YURRR!!” (trying to sound like Alicia Keys).

Here’s Peyton’s selfie video. She even called it that…on her own.  “The thing is…”
