DONE!

Today was an epic day! Dave took Peyton to school, while I headed off with Brandon. We dropped his baseball gear off at CDC, then brought his booster for the field trip after school. He lined up, while I went to check in with the office for the day. I ran into one of the teammates mom’s, and we talked until the bell rung. There was a band performance this morning, so the assembly took a bit longer than normal. We headed back to the classroom, and Brandon was introduced to the class as the teacher, though the students all knew he was. He was to review the agenda, and then one by one, he checked things off his list.  He was given a choice to go to recess or help prepare his art project.  Of course he picked recess, though I think he was afraid he was going to have to skip it.  I helped instead, prepping paint palettes.  I’d brought an apron, in case, but I was assured I wouldn’t need it. It helped I wore my volunteer shirt, so I wasn’t that sad if it got dirty.  The only time I had to myself was at lunch, since the teacher went to her lunch, while the kids went to theirs.  Parents are not allowed in the lunch room anymore to hang out with kids, since it’s just too crowded.  The teacher suggested I go for a walk, since I’d told her I was waiting until after the day was done to eat.  I did go to my car, and then I had a thought to run one of my errands – getting Peyton’s flowers!  I headed to the nearest store, and as I was entering, I noticed passing one police car, then another, and then three more.  One entrance was cordoned off with caution tape, and when I went inside, there were police officers inside the store. They were congregated around the bank that’s attached to the store. I was trying to listen in on the workers who were talking about a robbery of some sort.  I was trying to search while waiting in line, but I didn’t see anything. I also didn’t get anything on the police feed that I’ve enrolled in to be notified of any activity.  I wanted to get in and get out asap!  The only reason I waited there in the floral department was so that I could get the flowers re-wrapped.  I’d picked glittery daisies, like those that I’d gotten Mckayla and Peyton during their winter performances.  I went back to school, and then headed back in line.  I picked up some supplies for my lesson next week, and then met up with Brandon and his friends.  The last thing of the day was for Brandon to read a book to his students.  We’d picked it out last night, and he practiced with me.  He was supposed to come up with a few follow up questions.  He picked an autobiography, of George Washington.  Here’s the link to that.  The rest of the videos are shorter clips, and are in the process of being uploaded.

Here are the pictures I took during my day at school.

After school, I waited until Brandon was picked up by a chaperone for the field trip.  He wasn’t with one of his classmate’s moms, and I was told to wait with him by the flag.  Another mom friend told me the pick up was at the classroom. In the meantime, a mom came over to me to ask if Brandon was “Brandon”.  She said she would be his driver.  I’d never seen her before, nor her child, but she had his name on a piece of paper.  She also had a younger one in tow, and despite my not liking it, I had to let him go.  He had his carseat, and I took his backpack.  I gave him a hug goodbye, told him to listen, and then to have fun.  He waved goodbye, then I headed back to my car.  I went to get pastries and then headed to the gym. I had about an hour, so I ran 5K, then showered up. I wasn’t able to chaperone Brandon because Peyton had her kinder promotion.  It was going to be too complicated for me to drive him there, then leave him, as he would have no chaperone. I was trusting the other mom, and fortunately, Brandon is older now, and I know I don’t have to worry about him running away.  He’s too chicken for that.  He was wearing his walk a thon shirt, so at least he looked like everyone else.  I made it to Peyton’s school, and I was first in line for the audience.  Peyton’s mom’s friends quickly lined up with me, so we were able to chat and make time go by quickly.  It never fails that some rude parent will insert themselves, and one did just that.  She sat in between my friend and me, but said, “I’m only putting my stuff here (on the lunch table that we were sitting on the front side of).”  She later proceeded to SIT on the bench, in the space we were saving for the husbands!  I texted Dave feelings on this, and I encouraged him to hurry up.  By the time he got there, the lady’s husband was sitting there. Feeling he was a bit nicer, probably because he just looked meeker, I told him that the “space” where my stuff was, was being saved for my husband. I didn’t wait out there for 45 minutes just so they could cut in!  Luckily, Dave showed up 5 minutes before show time, and this was probably the only time I’d wished he were a 300 pound man!  Dave said the guy was annoying him, even without the back story, as he was getting his lens in Dave’s face!  Either way, we were in different classes, so our subject matters were different.  Dave took many pictures, almost embarrassingly so, with the shutter clicking away.  The kids all did a great job, and they looked so enthusiastic in their performance! They did a song, a poem, and a dance.  I’ll have to upload the longer version of the performance later, since it’s on the big video camera.  These others were from my phone.  As soon as the performance was over, diplomas were given out!  They did it alphabetically, and our class was second.  Poor Peyton was the 3rd to the last!  Not a lot of last names in the second part of the alphabet!  I’d always been used to be near the middle.  My mom always suffered with the end of the alphabet, too, so I’m sure she can commiserate with her.  I don’t think she cared, as she still looked happy to be there getting her diploma!  Dave left as soon as the program was over, since we’d entrusted another mom to pick Brandon up from CDC to bring him to practice with her son.  We really relied on our community today with him!  Dave and I had been nervous; I think he was more nervous about him being at practice with the other coaches, and not having anyone to “protect” him.  Peyton and I stayed for the potluck.  She ate most of what I’d given her, including her veggies, but I’d warned her about going overboard on her desserts, not wanting to have a repeat of yesterday.  She selected a small piece of chocolate cake, but I’d taken half of it. When she whined, I reminded her again!  She agreed, and we finished up, took some more edamame that we’d brought, and then headed to Brandon’s practice.  They were just finishing up, and we met up with them just as they were handing out new jerseys.  They were all geared up for tomorrow’s first game at 10 am!  We headed to dinner, and then it was off to bed to get a good night’s rest.

While I was with Brandon’s teacher today, she showed me his current reading level.  He’s dropped since his last test!  He’s still above grade level, but not to the degree he had before. I immediately told Dave that baseball was ruining his schooling.  I’ll have to concentrate on that this summer, along with more typing.  Today, he practiced and “taught” handwriting, which is hilarious, since it’s the thing he needs the most help on.  I know his pre-school worked on it with him, as Peyton’s able to do it, but he’s found his own way.  They are reminding the kids about ergonomics and how not to get into trouble with their wrists and arms hurting.  We’ll have to continue to work on this with him, too!
