After yesterday with only one scooter, Dave went to go get another. He bought a wider one with larger wheels for Peyton. We took them back to campus and parked closer to the museum. But instead of signing up early, we had them scooter to the T&C shopping center. We grabbed lunch outside of the museum. After lunch, the kids scootered back, while we jogged alongside them. Peyton was much more comfortable with the larger platform, and she was getting around better. Peyton and I signed up for the 1230 pm tour and the one o’clock art demonstration again while Dave and Brandon put the scooters away. Peyton wanted to go back and see the Three Shades, so we went back through the room to look at the Lion, the Babies and then the Three Shades. Dave found us, and we hung around for 5 minutes before the tour started. The docent took us to the Native American art, which was a different than last week. We never even went into this room, so it was great that we were lead here. I’m not even sure we would’ve found it on our own. We were learning about totem poles, and how they used to be made of wood, then argilite, a type of stone only found in British Columbia. There were fewer kids, and Brandon was one of the older, which was not the case last week. Given that he was one of the older kids, there was more pressure on him to answer questions. He did answer a few after raising his hand (in what country is British Columbia?). I helped him on some of them, so he could feel confident to raise his hand. But the other answers, like what animals he saw in the carvings was all him. After our tour in this room, we headed down to the art studio. The kids were going to make their own totem poles out of clay. They were supposed to represent our family. Brandon was so excited to get to play with clay; he kept turning around to give us giddy smiles, trying to contain himself. This was not lost on the docent, who caught our gazes and had to smile along with him. She kept turning around to us, since we were not sitting directly with him, trying to give them some room. This time, Peyton did her own artwork, as I’d suggested she cut her piece of clay into four pieces, so she could stack them up. She got the idea to make supports through each piece with a toothpick, like rebar. She chose to paint hers afterward, while Brandon wanted to keep his au naturale.
After our project, we went home and had a family nap! All four of us slept, even Dave, which is unusual! Actually, before going down, Brandon told us, “Well, I’m not going to go to sleep, I’m just going to lie in my bed and do nothing.” Well, he got bored of it, and when I went to go check and see what he was up to, I found him sound asleep. It may have been a close call to see who went down first… When the kids woke up (Peyton first, then Brandon 30 minutes later – again, he wasn’t tired? Riiiight…), they got to watch a little TV while I made a TJ’s run. Then, Dave and Brandon headed to practice. I cleaned up, and then walked over with Peyton. Dave brought her scooter, so she rode around the parking lot, while Dave and I threw a baseball together. He was trying to get me to break in Brandon’s glove, but that meant he was throwing it to me hard! At one point, my fingers were tingling! Good thing it’s my right hand, but still, I told him not to hurt me, since I had the kids all week long! We threw for about 45 minutes, stopping to watch Brandon’s at-bats, or helping Peyton adjust the scooter. After practice, we headed to the new shave snow place that opened up. We’d driven by when we got home from LA, but it was too crowded to wait. Since we had no timeframe this time, we decided to try again. There was no line! We tried both the green tea and blueberry, since we couldn’t decide. The kids are still on their ban, so they split a savory crepe. It was too much for us, and I was shivering by the time we were done. Luckily, Peyton is a heater! She wrapped her arms around my arms, and it was like a warm blanket. I decided to take her to the car after we were done. Dave stopped by 85 degrees, since the kids said they were both still hungry after splitting the crepe. It always happens if we eat dinner too early and then do something physical. They just get so hungry! They are eating machines.
pink = herself, yellow = me, blue = Dave, and red = Brandon; I laughed because Dave’s head is the biggest. And her “signature” happy face with the vertical nose line is still in effect…
Brandon said he had animals in his figure, and the second one looked like one of the birds in the totem pole we saw at the museum. The top one looks like My Melody to me 🙂 He said he had an owl, another bird, himself, and a dog. I think he’s mixing some of his abstract art from last week 😉
