Another Fun One

Today, I had to get my smog check done. Okay, so not so much fun, but that got us moving early. The kids kept themselves entertained for the 20 minutes that we were there. There were a bunch of car magazines and SI, so Brandon sifted through those. I’d brought a coloring book for Peyton, but she saw the Brett Hundley edition, and said, “That’s Brett Hundley, like at home!” From there, we headed up to see Tai Po. I’d called the night before just to make sure they were going to be home. We got there, but then we turned around and walked to the ocean. I wanted the kids to get some exercise, though Brandon fought a little bit, telling me that he’d get exercise at baseball later. True, but I wanted him to have AEROBIC exercise. The walk down went well, as they were making imaginary Venn diagrams for WDW and DCA resort. Brandon knew what I was talking about, but I had to explain the Venn diagram to Peyton. She caught on quickly, and added to our list. Then, we got on the subject of soda flavors from the World Of Coca Cola exhibit. Brandon liked the Italian one, and Peyton liked the watermelon one. We stopped at the sand, watched a few surfers, then turned around and headed back. On the way back, we counted down cross streets. Peyton did a little math, subtracting the numbers as we walked back up. Finally, we made it back, and then my uncle had returned from his walk. We headed to dim sum, per the kids’ request over potstickers. Unfortunately, the first restaurant we tried was closed. Of course, we found this out after we’d already paid the meter.  We went to the second place, and we were seated right away.  We got our order in, and then my grandma leaned on the host to try to hurry up with the dishes.  Or at least that’s what I surmised, since I don’t understand Cantonese 🙂   We went back to the house after lunch, and Brandon finished up his words before starting on his lego project.  Peyton started on hers first, and she still didn’t finish before Brandon.  It’s amazing how fast Brandon did his words knowing that there was something he was working toward. I think it took him half the time or less to do the words before joining us in the living room.  I wanted to leave around 3 pm to avoid traffic and be back for baseball practice.  Peyton put her last brick together right after 3pm, and both knew that I was ready to go by 3pm.  It took us just under an hour to get home, and in that time, both kids fell asleep.  I tried to take pictures of them at the red light, while not being too conspicuous, or waking them up.

Brandon got himself changed for baseball, and then we waited for Dave to get back.  We started an early dinner, and then Peyton and I headed to the gym for my class. I’d signed up for a full hour today, since I could get Peyton fed beforehand.  It was a great!  She didn’t mind going in, even though she told me she didn’t want to.  Her “regular” girl wasn’t there today, so I think maybe she was hesitant.  She was handed a video game controller, and then the boys were guiding her through the lego game.  When I picked her up, she was still smiling, so I think she was just fine.  We headed home, and then I asked her if she wanted to walk to the park for baseball.  She told me she was still hungry, and wanted “something to go”.  She chose a banana, and she ate that while we walked to the park.  Practice had just finished up, but I’d texted Dave to wait for us.  Peyton got a little catch in, but she caught a ball off her shoulder and the water works ensued.  That signaled our time to go, as we were the last ones on the field.  Dave was trying to hit pop ups for Brandon, who was catching them better.  Peyton just got in the way when Brandon threw it back.  Oopsies.  She eventually stopped crying.  We went home for the kids to eat round two of their dinner, before going to take baths and turning in. Both reminded me they didn’t practice piano, so we’ll squeeze some time in before lessons tomorrow.
