Wedding weekend recap

On Friday, we picked the kids up from school by 10. I was home changing and putting bags in my car, while Dave was doing pick up in the middle of recess. He said it was a good thing he found Brandon in the sea of people. Brandon said he didn’t recognize Dave because he was already in wedding attire.  We headed out, and I was dropped off first since my flight was earlier. No problems at all for me. However, Dave tested me while I got through security that his flight was delayed by 2 hours. There went my vision of hanging out in the bridal suite watching all the girls get ready!  I then recess Suong to come get me. She was running some errands and would pick me up on her way to the hotel. I waited around people-watching and charging my phone outside. More than an hour or so later, I was still there and Dave had come in by this time. He still had to get his car, so I ended up waiting for Suong anyway. The problem was Dave had ironed my wedding clothes and put them in his bag. I opened up my bag at the airport to see what I was left, and fortunately, I had my shoes and two other dresses I’d packed for other events this weekend. Suong and I arrived at the hotel by 5pm. Wedding was at 530 pm. We got ready, and I ironed my backup dress. Dave arrived at 515 pm. No traffic for either of us from the airport to the hotel. Suong had already gotten stuck in it just to get me from the Westside.  So we all rushed down to the ceremony with 15 minutes to spare as the bride made a slightly late entrance. Both kids were quiet during the 30 minute ceremony, device-free. We chatted with our friends during cocktail hour, with the kids trying Shirley Temples for the first time. They were warned they only got one. Surprisingly, Brandon sipped his. Peyton finished hers first and kept eyeing Brandon’s. Luckily she didn’t act on it. The kids enjoyed the hors d’ourves and that took the edge off from being hungry. The kids were sitting around talking to the adults (Peyton watched, while Brandon talked), until Katie came over. She tapped Brandon’s shoulder and asked him to come over to play. He thought about it for a second, then joined her. Funny that Katie didn’t ask Peyton, only Brandon, but she ran over to join them. Katie (7), Kyle (4), Ellie (3), and the two kids all played nicely together. We all headed into dinner, and the kids had a salad in from of them, but the waiters were going to remove the plates to make room for their chicken strips and fries. We asked them to keep them there, and they ate it before the chicken and fries. Even Peyton ate the salad, which was the fancier lettuce she doesn’t usually have. Brandon didn’t eat the goat cheese, which was surprising. The adults eyed the kids’ fries, and we shared them since there were a ton. After the kids were done, we ipadded them while we enjoyed dinner. They enjoyed themselves, and once the music came on, so did their head phones. It helped protect their ears. We enjoyed the rest of the reception, and eventually, made it to the last songs. Peyton gave up on the devices to join us on the dance floor. She loves watching the dancing, but she doesn’t want to have any part.  We took them back upstairs for bed, while I changed to head out for the after-party. Some of the group was surprised to see me out. I didn’t want the party to end 🙂  so we walked a half-block to the bar. Two guys had to go back and change because they were in flip flops and one guy in shorts but, as the bouncer said “Chicks can wear whatever they want.” The guys went to jtown for noodles, while we hung out there for a bit before returning to Debbie’s room. The hotel upgraded her to a suite. Two girls went to go get tacos from the taco truck outside. We hung out until 3am before Suong and I headed back to our room. We had a plan for the boys to sleep together, while Suong and I sandwiched Peyton.  I warned her she may get kicked. As it was, when we found her, Peyton was perpendicular in bed. I moved her and tried to hold her leg and keep her from kicking. It only worked as long as I was awake. When we woke the next morning, Suong informed me she was kicked.  Oops. We headed down to find Dave and Brandon for breakfast. They had awoken at 630 and had headed out for coffee, before shooting around on the famed court. We played for a little bit with Leon, then we headed down. Most of the bridal party was there by that time. We ate then headed up to the room to watch the football game.  I tried to sleep more, not being used to staying out late anymore. We then checked out at around 1 and met up again for lunch. I had a much-needed salad, which hit the spot. The kids weren’t hungry and were more interested in hanging out with Katie and Kyle. Kyle was so cute and would rest his head on Brandon’s shoulder. When Peyton does this, he swipes her off. Glad he didn’t mind it from Kyle. After lunch we drove back to Dave’s parents’ house. Peyton told us she wasn’t tired, but of course, she was out. It was a short drive without traffic, so she didn’t get much sleep. We hung out with the grandparents and laid down the rules for all of them. Dave’s mom was worried the kids wouldn’t sleep. We just told her to keep them separated. We got them fed and bat then left to Mike’s. We walked with him to our pre-dinner drinks spot. Dinner was at 10 pm because we couldn’t get earlier reservations for the party of 8. We chatted with Suong again, then we headed to dinner. Charlie squeezed Mike to join us. We left the ordering up to Kathleen and Spencer since theyd been wanting to try and being from Singapore, they’d have less chance of it in the near future. We tried rabbit, lamb, pig’s ear and head, and probably a dozen other things. I was most impressed that I did commit to trying everything, except the chicken wing as there were only 8. They were out of veal brain and tongue, and I was secretly happy about that. We enjoyed all 4 desserts on the menu. We headed out for our nice walk back. We chose to do this so Dave could sober up a bit and I could get some exercise.  When got back, we chatted for a little while then we headed to bed. I got to sleep in until 830 the next morning. We didn’t leave Mike’s until after ten though the party started at that time. It was a casual get together for the bridal party, family and out of town guests.  We got into the parking lot of Deb and Simon’s place just as Jos and Charlie had arrived.  We’d all just met up the night before, but they had gone out after we disbanded!  Crazy kids!  The party was nicely decorated with the flowers from the wedding.  Deb’s cousin had put together their wedding video that he’d shot with just his phone and a super powerful flash.  It was nicely done!  We ate Porto’s pastries and breakfast sandwiches, then celebrated Deb’s mom’s birthday, with all four of her daughters present!  We stayed for a couple of hours, being appreciative of not chasing kids around the party as we saw other parents.  By after awhile, it was time for us to go collect our own kids.  We thanked our hosts, said a real bye to everyone, as this was the last wedding related event.  We wouldn’t be seeing anyone else, as our flight left early Monday morning.  Traffic was unusually light, and we returned from Marina Del Rey to RH in just 30 minutes!  Unheard of.  When we pulled up to the driveway, Peyton must have heard us. She ran to the door, and struggled to open it.  We just saw eye balls through the glass in the door.  She did finally get it open, and then she started crying.  Dave’s mom thought she was crying just because she saw mommy, or trying to get sympathy.  But when I finally got to her, there was blood all over the floor.  She’d caught her toe under the door frame, and it cut her foot.  I almost passed out, but I had to address the situation.  I scooped her up, and brought her over to the sink to wash her off.  They got ice, and a bandage, and it slowly started to bleed.  Poor thing, was in one piece until just the last minute.  No one else heard us, or knew that she was trying to open the door to help her.  We packed up our stuff there, and then Dave’s parents wanted to go to eat dinner.  We were all stuffed, but the kids were hungry.  Peyton was still in jammies, so we changed her, and then headed out.  We went to a Taiwanese place, and Peyton was near asleep, leaning on my lap until food arrived.  When we were done with dinner, we said goodbye, while we headed to Mike’s for the night.  It was still early, and I wanted to get ice cream from a place we’d seen on our last trip that had a line out the door.  We found out it was only 2 miles away from Mike, so we decided to get the kids to walk there.  It was such a nice night, we didn’t even need sweaters!  The kids were to not complain about the walk, though Peyton broke the rule to mention her foot hurt from the door.  We made it there, and I tried the thai ice tea macaron sandwich, while Dave had a coffee almond scoop. Brandon had mint, while Peyton had strawberry.  Mike had a strawberry bar, while Yeonhee ate a raspberry macaron sandwich, dipped in chocolate.  We ate it all quickly, and then headed back on foot.  We took a different route just to have something else to look at.  Peyton was rushing, and I thought she should pace herself.  Walking back seemed faster, and we were all hot and sweaty by the time we were done.  The kids got in the bath, and we got them to bed by 9 pm.  We talked for a bit, then went to bed by 11 pm.  My flight was a 7 am, so we woke up by 5 am to leave by 530 am.  When I woke Peyton up, she said, “But it’s still night time!”  She moved more easily than Brandon did, but neither gave us problems.  Dave dropped me off first, and then they took the car back, had breakfast and didn’t get on their flight until after I’d arrived at home.  My dad picked me up, and I got the car and headed to the coffee shop.  My dad headed in to work.  Everything went as planned, and we headed back home.  It was nice to get home, and Peyton and I took a 2 hour nap, while Dave went to practice with Brandon.  We walked over there after we woke up.  It was such a good nap!  After the scrimmage, we headed to dinner for happy hour to celebrate our anniversary, and our usual grocery shopping to get us on our way for the start of our week.

Here are the pics I took this weekend.  We have more on the real camera…
