Better Day; Piano

It seems Peyton is an every other day child at the moment.  Apparently, CDC told me she had the “best day so far” in her class.  Unfortunately, she didn’t fare as well at CDC. I’d stuffed a book in Peyton’s backpack last night for her to read at dismissal.  I got an email from her teacher saying, “Hello Robyn,  Just wanted to let you know Peyton made it to rockstar blue today!  The book really helped for dismissal. Thank you for your support. See you bright and early tomorrow for assessment 740am.”

Reminds me to go put another book in her bag.  It was a Mammals science book, nothing big.  I’ll put the Fish book in there for tomorrow, but leave in the Mammal book just so she doesn’t freak out, since it worked today.  Here’s hoping for two in a row.

CDC recognizes that Peyton is tired during that 12-1 pm timeframe. I met with all three teachers at BTSN, and they told me to ask her to let them know she’d like a quiet space.  They offered her a small corner in the office to curl up with a book to read quietly.  The other day, Ms. Alyssa had to pick her up and take her back to CDC.  She was folded in half on the blacktop, and when Ms. Alyssa picked her up, she said Peyton just melted into her.  I told them we needed to give her a caffeine shot at 1130 am to keep her up.  Hey, it works for me!  We went to our second BTSN, and we got info on how to log into the parents’ portal to get their grades.  We then went to the teacher’s portion.  Turns out our teacher has a student with her all year round.  Another adult in the classroom – woohoo!  And I was so sad to know that the student that she has also partners with Ms. Song!  AH!  It’s going to be my black cloud for the rest of Peyton’s educational career 🙂  J/k. I’ll get over it.  Dave just stated that if Brandon’s teacher is a student teacher mentor, it must mean she’s a good one!  She’s been there for 9 years, teaching 3rd grade for the last 7.  And she’s still young, just having got married this past summer. There weren’t a lot of questions, as she was very thorough, and since we went right up until 7 pm, we had to take off and get the kids.  I was so concerned for Peyton’s well-being for tomorrow’s reschedule of her assessment, that I showered her before BTSN.  She had her snack, and then we were off to get her to bed. It worked, as she was asleep by 8 pm.  I’ll take it for the kind of week we’ve had so far.  I rifled through Brandon’s desk, and found a rubber duckie he’d earned from his raffle tickets for doing his homework on time, and doing well with his behavior.  I even wrote him a note since he’d written one to us.  I told him to check it out, and he was excited to go back and and see it.  Brandon reminded me I was in his class for art tomorrow. He seemed excited about it, so I was happy to hear he’d look forward to it.
Piano went well, though I’d forgotten to pack the books in the car this morning. I texted Dave to ask him to put them with one of the kids. He chose Brandon, since his bag is a rollie, and he didn’t have to go anywhere else once he got to school, since I was picking him up straight from school.  Peyton went first for piano, while Brandon ate his lunch (much to my dismay) in the living room.  After he finished picking up the crumbs from the tile floor, he did his homework.  Peyton had homework for the first time; her job was to match upper case to lower case, and fill in the blanks from 1-20. It’s due next Friday.  And 20 minutes of reading per night.  She did her homework in 2 minutes while Brandon practiced piano.  If only her social skills matched her academic ability.  She’s following in Brandon’s footsteps for sure.
