Happy Halloween!

The threat of rain almost sabotaged the Halloween parade this morning. I got the kids at school, and it wasn’t raining. Just as the kids were lining up, there were some sprinkles. But the parade would go on! The kinders started, then the 1st through 5th graders. I was standing with Grace’s mom and dad, and Bella’s dad. Grace’s mom offered to take pictures of both Peyton and Brandon as they made their way through the circle/parade. The rain started coming down, and poor Peyton was in her skimpy Elsa costume. She didn’t want to wear anything underneath, so she would suffer. Misha was also Elsa, and she saw me first. “Peyton’s mom, Peyton’s mom” was what I heard, replaced with, “ROBYN!” Apparently, Peyton’s mom is too much to say. I agree. Right after the parade was done, just after 9, I headed back to Peyton’s classroom. I asked the teacher if we could gather the kids for a picture. Initially, she wanted to wait until the party at noon, but I mentioned I might change Peyton out of her costume. She thought it was a good point, and also noticed the other three classrooms lining up to take a photo. We got the kids to take a photo, then I quickly left for work. I got in close to 2 hours before heading back to school. I wasn’t in a big rush, knowing that the kids would be in their class for lunch. When I arrived at the classroom, I found that the teacher was still there. She was eating a ramen at her desk, while watching the kids. Landon’s mom was also there, so I wandered around the room checking in on kids. I changed Peyton into less itchy clothes, and soon, the kids were let outside to play. The kids got to play for 15 minutes or so before coming back into the classroom. They got ready for their performance as the parents were gathering in the class. They performed 3 skits/songs which were all really cute. Peyton started talking to the boy next to her during their breakout section, and I think that boy’s mom was annoyed. She was sitting front row, center, filming them. I think Peyton does it because she’s nervous, which she used to do in pre-school, too. Oh well, I did talk to her about minding her own business. The kids then had their Halloween party, with parents and kids helping themselves to treats that all the parents brought in. After that, we were dismissed to the Fall Festival. We went to pick Brandon up, then headed over to the Festival. It was all under the awning of the multi and in the multi itself, which is why the kids had to eat in their classrooms. Normally, it’s on the blacktop, but they were preparing for rain, which did show up. There were also two food trucks. I felt badly for Brandon, as I handed him 25 tickets, instructions to NOT leave school, and NO food to be purchased with said tickets. With that, he was off with his friends. I couldn’t stay with both of them, as they had different interests. Since the activities were all crunched under the awnings, it was SUPER crowded. Like chaotic. And then the rain came down, and it was flooding everywhere. There was a point that it was coming down so hard, I decided we were going to stay at school for awhile. I didn’t bring an umbrella, thinking we could just run if it did rain. But we would’ve been soaked had we tried to make it back in the car in that deluge. Luckily, we still had tickets, and I was on a mission to fill Peyton’s card. Brandon’s never had patience to wait in line and get the stickers required to get prizes and ultimately the pumpkin if the card was full. Peyton won tic tac toe, and the woman running the booth was impressed with her arm. She also knocked all three bowling pins and filled up on stickers. She quickly filled up her card; some big kids noticed her card was full, and asked her how she did it so quickly! After awhile, Brandon found us. I checked in with him, and he told me he just wanted to get mini suckers for our snack bin. He assured me he didn’t eat any of them. I did tell him he could buy one snack, and he ran off. He did tell me he’d come back and show me what he got. He brought back two snicker doodles, and I told him he could go ahead and eat them. He was doing a great job on his own with his friends. He later found me and told me he was all done, but he had a few tickets left. We consolidated, used the last of them for a photo for each of them, and then headed to pick Peyton’s pumpkin. I told her if she got a big one, I’d carry it.  But she chose a tiny pumpkin that she could carry herself.  I asked her if she wanted a larger one, but she declined.  It was smaller than a bowling ball, and so cute!

I stopped at the food truck to get some sliders, then we walked back to the car. The rain had subsided by then, so it was a perfect time to go. The kids finished up their lunches, while I ate my sliders. Then both practiced piano, and by that time, Dave had come home. Both kids changed into swimming gear, and we headed out for class. They were both disappointed they had to swim today, as they just wanted to go trick or treating. It was still early, so I told them they wouldn’t be missing out. We came home, showered up, and then changed to go back out. It was just getting dark at 645 pm. We stopped by the Cheng’s, saw some baseball families in our area, and then made our usual loop. Since we were more mobile, we made it further than we normally do. We were also able to stay out later, so we were gone a little over an hour. We came back to our still-full basket, so we weren’t robbed like in previous years. The kids counted up their candy, and then they went to sleep. Since each of them had to be talked to at swim class, we didn’t let them have candy tonight. They will look over their stash tomorrow, though they know with the twins’ party, there will be cake. Brandon said he’d prefer candy over cake, but he has to decide that AFTER the birthday party. Here are our pictures from today…and some video later.
