Today Dave and I had back to back parent teacher conferences. We were given options for Brandon’s and asked to rank them in order of preference. We needed it on a CDC day, preferably Tuesday. Luckily, I think we got our first choice (I forgot what order I’d ranked). But we had to move Peyton’s, which Dave had signed up for the same time. Peyton’s teacher was nice enough to accommodate us, making arrangements for us to meet right after Brandon’s. I arrived with 5 minutes to spare, and Dave was already parked. We met with the teacher and had a great meeting. We gave her some insight into Brandon, as his handwriting is TERRIBLE! The teacher wanted to know “is this the best he can do?” She wanted to know his baseline, and if he was really trying. We agreed to work more with word problems, and she did explain about his lower scores with his behavior. This is much better than any of the previous years, however, there are many boys in her classroom that have the same “problem” and they all feed off each other. She gave a bunch of them “approaching proficiency” as a “wake up call”. I did tell her he is free of yellow slips this year, so that’s definitely a positive for us. And no visits to the principal, as we have enough of those with the little one this year.  Mrs. S told us that Brandon was very focused during class, and not too much fidgeting.  She says he just gets sucked into the the “boys'” behavior in the class.  She gets frustrated with him, too, since she knows he knows his stuff, but just doesn’t apply himself.  Overall, it was productive, and I told Dave after that I’d had too much coffee today. He could tell, he said. Oops. We headed over to Peyton’s class. We are no strangers to this classroom, as we’ve met many times now, and I’m volunteering in the class. I was less hyper for this one since this isn’t our first time here. We hadn’t had the opportunity to see the report card for Peyton like we’d already done for Brandon. Mrs. M went through Peyton’s marks. She is exceeding proficiency in reading and math. Mrs. M said she hardly ever gives 5’s for T1 in kindergarten, but she HAD to for Peyton. Peyton has 7 of them! Too bad none of them are in the behavioral arena. But, per Mrs. M, Peyton has improved “leaps and bounds” in this area. I guess it was all part of Peyton’s master plan to show improvement. Start off REALLY low, and recover! Mrs. M showed us some writing samples, and is constantly encouraging Peyton to continue to add more detail. Once she challenges her to finish the lines, Peyton will do so without assistance. Here are some pictures that I took of the drawings and writing samples (I like the UCLA one – she used appropriate colors and everything, and the Kao family made an appearance, too!) Not sure why Peyton is wearing RED! But she did color us GREEN for the Fun Run as we all had neon green tech shirts. I thought she wrote “Some” ninja, but she said it was “Zombie” ninja.  Oops.
