Last Booth Day

Today was the last day for us to sell cookies as a troop. And the weather forecast was for rain. What are the chances? It only rained two times this month, both on days we were supposed to be out selling. Dave was holding baseball practice at the cages, so he took both kids while I got myself ready for the day. I headed over and found the kids practicing. Together! Dave was raking the field, so he just had the kids do their own thing. I quickly grabbed my phone and went to video them.

Then, I threw a bit with Peyton while the boys were playing before we headed to the toy store to help set up. We got two canopies, two tables and all the cookies set up. The girls were a bit shy, but fortunately, Abbi is way more out-going than Peyton. I don’t think Peyton said two words, but she got out there and helped when she could. After one hour, more girls came, and at one point, five girls were outside. We had just a sprinkle of rain but apparently Dave got a flood! We were under canopy so I guess it didn’t feel that bad. After our shift was up, we waited to sell one more box, then we headed out. Abbi and Peyton were in the van while I was chatting with the other moms. Apparently, one mom went to check on them, and she was told the girls, “Are driving to Disneyland.” Both were buckled up, and Peyton was at the helm driving. I got her out eventually, and we headed home. Dave was there already with Brandon, and we all ate lunch, then Peyton and I napped. Dave took Brandon to the basketball game, while Peyton and I walked. We got there with plenty of time, so I had her do one lap around the track. I told her that was the last leg of her triathlon. She started strongly, however she petered out, and we did the lap in 3:45:68. To her credit, she’d already walked 0.75 miles before running that last lap. While we walked, she saw the sign, “Beware of Dog.” She pointed and said, “It should say, ‘Beware of THE dog’.” Okay, grammar police! Peyton didn’t want to bring anything to do at the game, so she sat on my lap or the bench mostly keeping quiet. She got a little antsy toward the end, but nothing a bit of spelling couldn’t fix. We were spelling words around the gym, and then she’d have to go find them. The other team didn’t do so hot, and Dave thinks they may have scored one point. Brandon’s team was up so much, they turned the score board off. The opposite court had flipped the score board back to zero as well for the same reason. Peyton asked me why, and I didn’t want to explain “mercy rule”, so I told her it’s broken. She said, “But how? It’s not even electric.” Oops, yes, it’s a manual score board đŸ™‚
We headed to dinner after, and then it was movie night for the kids while I went to grocery shop. I’ve accepted this vegan challenge at work, and I’m going to do my best in this regard. We’ll see how it works!
