Spring Forward Sunday

Last night, we got the kids brushed before we headed out of the restaurant, so they were pretty much done except to change, but at least I didn’t have to fight them with a toothbrush. This morning, the kids came in later than usual because of springing forward. I think it was 730 am. The time we used to get upset of losing an hour, we actually gained a little because we got to “sleep in”. Peyton actually fell back asleep for another 20 minutes or so before Brandon came in, at which time Dave turned the tv on. The boys got ready for picture day, while Peyton ate her breakfast slowly. We headed out to opening day by 1030 am. It didn’t start until 11 am, but I knew we couldn’t stay long, so I wanted to go there for my own picture to post. There were food trucks – coffee, froyo, and a hot dog truck. We chatted with families, and then found Dave and Brandon eventually. The ceremony was pretty short, and the boys were done by the time we were going to leave. We happened to stand behind a dad/coach who had a shirt from 2013, and I was looking at the names, and I found Brandon’s! I didn’t think we ever had an opportunity to buy the shirt, but I got a photo of it. Peyton and I headed to Sydney’s birthday party. I wasn’t sure of Dave’s schedule, but I didn’t think Peyton would last after the birthday party for a Costco run, so I gave my list to Dave. He ended up going in between baseball events. Peyton and I showed up right after Sydney, and just as Neha and Orion got there. She didn’t need any warm up time, and as soon as we checked in, they were off! I was so happy to see, as Orion and Peyton tend to need a little separation time. The moms all chatted while the girls played and had a great time with the staff. They were playing games and going on the structure for over an hour before they moved to the second room to have pizza. Peyton had her finger in the air, and I wasn’t sure what it meant, since I didn’t hear the instructions. She told me one finger was for water, and two fingers was for apple juice. I was proud of her for drinking water, and I let her go at it with the chocolate cake! I’m sure she totally enjoyed it. There was a third room for balloons, and Peyton waited her turn and asked for a bow and arrow that actually worked! She also waited another round for an Elsa. I really didn’t need to be there, as she did most everything on her own, listening to the instructions from the staff. The only thing I did do was escort her to the restroom when she had to go potty. She had to go to the back of the area, so I was happy that I was there for that and no one else had to worry about doing it. We headed home by 3 pm, and Peyton went down for a nap. She said she wasn’t going to sleep as she wasn’t tired, so I laid down with her. Within 2 minutes, she was snoring. Sure, you’re not tired! I took a nap until Dave came in to wake us. It was time for the basketball end of the season party. He found Peyton with her leg wrapped around me, as she was starting to wake up, and flopping around more. We jumped up and got ready, since the pizza place wasn’t close. We all drove together and we were the first to arrive. Dave ordered the first round of pizza, and families started to arrive. He got a few salad plates, and we got hooked up as one of the moms knew the manager there by chance! Dave did what I’d recommended which is give a little roast/toast to each player before handing over the medals. The other coach Brandon had eloquently did this, though he is a teacher and used to being in front of crowds. Dave, not so much.

He did a good job with it, but he didn’t give me enough notice to film his speech on Brandon.
Here’s the presentation of the parents and players to the coaches:

The conversation turned from basketball to baseball, as most of the families were also playing. Dave was warned for the second time about one of the kids on his team. People are worried about his safety since he doesn’t pay attention well. I was worried about him, too, since he was playing third while Brandon was up to bat, and I was afraid he was going to smack him with the ball. Kids were tired, but they still practiced piano, and then headed to bed later than usual, but about the same time with the time change.
