I couldn’t sleep before the race, as with all races, even small ones. I woke up every hour thinking I’d oversleep. I kept checking the time, and finally, by 4 am, I was up. My alarm was set for 430 am, but I heard toilets flushing all over the place, knowing others were getting ready, too. I had everything out ready to go, and I got myself ready to go by 430 am. I headed out with my breakfast in hand, with coffee made the night before. I was with Peyton, Brandon was in his own bed, and Dave had the pull out. Why the configuration? Neither kid wanted the pull out. I needed a plug to charge my phone, so I was stuck in a bed. Peyton wanted to sleep with me, of course, so Dave claimed the solo bed. I sat in our meeting spot, and texted Carolyn that I was there. We weren’t supposed to meet up until 5 am, but I told her I couldn’t sleep. I enjoyed my muffin and coffee. I’d planned to only drink half a cup, since it’d been awhile since I’d had coffee, but it was so good together, I drank the whole thing. Carolyn arrived, and we walked to the corral together. She had signed up for E, while I had B, so we chatted for awhile in the middle before going our separate ways. I snaked up in the corral, while blogging about the night before. I set up my music, took a few pictures, and was ready for the gun time for us. It’s always a challenge to determine when we started, so I could pace myself through the mile markers and do math to keep my brain functioning at that early of an hour. I wanted to finish running in under or at an hour. There were still a few walkers among our corral, which was annoying to weave around. My motivation to keep running was that we had magic morning at 8 am to attend. I wanted to get this thing over with so I could go enjoy the day in the park. I didn’t finish in the time I was hoping, but it was the fastest 10K I’d done, so I’ll take it. In the last home stretch, we ran right in front of the hotel, and I’d signed myself up for run tracker so I could tell Dave where I was. However, I didn’t see him or the kids in the chute. I received my medal, and took a few finishers photos. I grabbed two bananas and an extra water after downing the first. I went back to the room and my cheer squad was just waking up from a late night. Peyton asked me, “You’re done?” I showered while they got up and at ’em, and we left out of the hotel by 715 am. We dumped our stuff in the car, and then we headed to the park. We were among the first few people, and we got in right at the rope. We’ve done that in DCA, but never for Dland. After a short wait, we were informed only two lands were open. We headed for Tomorrowland. We headed for Star Tours and walked right on. It was the one ride they could both agree. Then, we separated as Brandon wanted Space Mountain while Peyton wanted NOT Space Mountain. We headed to Autopia, which was still closed, and Buzz, which was still closed, so she chose Rockets. It was a short wait, then we headed back to Buzz. We had a good time on that ride before meeting up with Dave and Brandon again who were getting food. I waited for the food while they all went on Nemo. I was still dizzy from Rockets, and preferred to just sit around. The kids were going to wait for Jedi training, but Peyton chickened out and only wanted to do it if Brandon did it. And of course, Brandon didn’t want to. So, we headed to Indy, as Peyton was tall enough now. But it was closed! We walked around to find something else to ride and boarded Pirates, then decided to go back to Indy. We got Fastpasses and then waited our turn. It wasn’t that long, but Peyton was getting a bit scared. She agreed to go on the ride if she could “drive” the car. We asked and waited for a front row, and she was happy. Until the ride started. She whined and squirmed a bit, but she made it through. Every time we paused in the ride, she’d ask, “Is it over?” We wandered around the rest of the park, and there were many crowds now, as it was coming on noon. We wanted to use our fast passes again, and Peyton didn’t want to go. She only agreed to go if she could sit in between Dave and me, and she said she’d close her eyes. She made good on her promise, riding about 50% of the way with eyes scrunched closed. She was brave and kept it together. Brandon and Dave went to ride Big Thunder Mountain, while Peyton and I waited 45 minutes for Jungle Cruise. It was agonizing, though the ride operator had a few different jokes that I hadn’t heard, so I was entertained. We met up for lunch, and then headed to the other side. I waited with Peyton at TSM, while Brandon and Dave rode the roller coaster and Tower of Terror. Dave had to ride Swings with them, as I refused any more circular rides. Peyton and I did Little Mermaid, and then shopped a bit for her friend’s birthday party later next weekend. We met up to cross the park again for dinner with the Kong’s. We arrived about 20 minutes early and forced quiet time on the benches. Peyton fell asleep, while I texted Carolyn that we were there, just immobile as Peyton was stretched across us both. She had about a 25 minute cat nap before we were called to our table. Dave was running the next day, but he was preoccupied with the basketball game to really want to eat much. He and Matteo went back to the room to watch the game, while Carolyn and Roy hung out with us. We finished up dinner, then we said our goodbyes. We all headed across again, and the kids and I did TSM once, while Dave hung out at the Frozen area and did some shopping. Since Brandon is over 7 and Peyton is not, I rode with her, and he was behind us alone. He’d rather sit alone than with another single rider, so fortunately, no one was put next to him. We headed back to Dave and went to find Jos and Charlie who were coming out to meet us. We found a table at the Jazz Kitchen for dessert. Downtown was super crowded because of a movie premiere. No George C sighting, though Peyton called him “George Crooney?” Peyton was falling asleep again in my lap at the table while we were catching up with Jos and Charlie. We stayed for a full set of live music, then after we were done with appetizers and desserts, we walked again. Peyton was up again, but after we said our goodbyes, Dave picked her up. She’d done a great job walking without the stroller, all day long. Since she got top walker, I knew she could hang, and I reminded her of it. She never dragged, and she kept up with us. We headed back to Dave’s parents house by 11 pm or so, and the kids were wiped out. Peyton didn’t want her teeth brushed, so that took some effort and tears, but otherwise, all was good after that was done. We slept until about 730 am, when Peyton went downstairs first. She hugged and said Happy Mother’s Day to Grandma, per Grandma’s report. It was without direction by us, so that was nice to hear! She took some time to warm up to Grandpa though, not giving him a hug until well after breakfast. We packed up and eventually headed out for lunch. After that, we headed home. The kids slept until Dave pulled over at the outlets. They caught his eye on the way down, but they were on the right side of the freeway in our direction. We hung out there for an hour and shopped, then headed back out. I didn’t think Peyton would sleep again, but sure enough, she did conk out again! She stayed that way until we stopped at Harris Ranch. Again, Dave pulled off to stretch and potty, though it required waking Peyton up. We didn’t stop again until we neared home for dinner. She was feeling a bit queasy on the windy section back, but she kept it together. I’d brought a plastic bag just in case, but fortunately, it was not needed. Here are the pictures taken for the rest of the weekend. No photos taken with my phone at the race, so hopefully Disney will let us “have” them…
Brandon still needs to hold our hands. Bye doesn’t want to get lost or left behind! I told him to remember my phone number invade. He said, “How about I just don’t get lost?”
