Work Travel Day

Wednesday I was told that the meeting I was to attend on Friday was to be moved from 50 miles away to over 60 miles away. I tried to figure out if it was worth going or if I should wait and reschedule. I was given either option. I checked with Dave who complained a little since he’d have to drop off and definitely pick up. Once he gave me the green light, I committed. I’m not sure when the next meeting would be, and I wasn’t sure where it would be. Once school starts, I’m a bit more stuck in terms of the days I’m free. So, I just wanted to get it over with, and I committed. I woke up at 615 am, and then I planned to leave as soon as possible, but the kids were waking up by 635 am. I hung around to say good morning and give hugs before I headed out. GPS told me about an hour or so, as it was against traffic. Either way, because of the distance, I didn’t mind just sitting around and waiting at the job site if I got there early. The drive was okay, and I went in search of coffee. I found it at a place that I’d been to before; or at least I think we’d attended a birthday party at the same strip mall a few years back. Our florist for the wedding was off of this exit, too, but I was still relying heavily on the gps. I made it back to the classroom, and I still had 10 minutes to spare. I was one of the first few there. We only had a class of 8 there, instead of 12 that were initially enrolled. I was hoping it’d make things easier and have fewer questions, meaning we could get out earlier. Class was to go until 5 pm, but the instructors told us we would most likely get out by 430 pm. Class started around 835 am, and I was trying to get my caffeine in. It was a good class with hands on training. I did feel a bit slower though, as there was a “kid” sitting in front of me, who was whipping through the tasks. I did have a higher-up sitting to my other side, and she was a little slower, so I was happy that I wasn’t quite “there” yet. We broke for lunch around 1130 am, and a few women sat around and chatted. One was from the pharmacy school class before me, another just finished residency, and then there was the higher manager there, too. We talked mostly about kids, as at least 3 of us had them, ranging from Peyton’s age to college age. The second half of the class started off a bit rough, as I’d seemed to have forgotten everything I’d learned before lunch! I felt silly. And I was paying attention, which was even worse! We struggled a bit in the back row, and I tried my hardest to make sure I knew what I was doing. Finally, we finished up by 330 pm, and we were given our own time to ask questions. They couldn’t let us leave any earlier than 430 pm. Like we were in jail. We took our evals, then headed out right at 430pm. I stopped to potty first, then headed home. Dave called to tell me he’d picked the kids up, and they were going to go to dinner. They’d pick me up something, as I was fighting Taylor traffic getting home. She was in concert tonight and tomorrow, and there were signs all over the place this morning warning of it. It took me just over an hour to get there this morning, and over TWO hours to get back today. 2 hours and 10 minutes to be correct. I’d driven around the stadium traffic just to not get stuck, but there were some spots that just didn’t move. I went from 70 mph this morning to ZERO. Nuts. I don’t envy those with long commutes at all. Luckily, I got home safe and sound, and I waited about 10 minutes for the kids and dinner to arrive. The kids put some reading time in, then both went to bed. Too bad we can’t sleep in tomorrow, we have our recall to go take care of…ugh.
