Funday Friday

Last night, I told Brandon to clean up his room before we were going to school. He was motivated! This morning, he woke up, and he was cleaning up his room. I heard Peyton go downstairs, and I asked her where she was going. She said she was going to get her book that she’s been reading. So, by 7 am, I had one cleaning his room and another one reading. Yippee!! I was able to get ready, and I got breakfast ready for them. Peyton was happy to have a good night’s sleep saying, “Yay, no snoring!” She later told my mom, “yeah, I can hear him because he’s like my neighbor!” The kids went off to school, much later than Dave takes them, but only because they were messing around when it was time to leave. I stayed for the flag salute, then headed to work for two hours. I had my workout clothes, but when I got there, I only had one shoe! I panicked, and tried to think about where the other would have been. Why would I only bring one?! Where did the other go? As I was leaving work, there were two cars that had windows smashed in, and I had been creeped out that whoever did it must have looked into my car and moved on. The person who was there with the security told me that her gym bag was taken. If only the robbers knew how much car seats were…I may be in trouble. So, I thought maybe the thief stole my ONE shoe…so since the work out was a bust, I went to the library to pick out books for the kids to read for the book of the month club. Peyton’s old enough to read now as you have to be a first grader. 1st and 2nd graders pick from the same books, and 3rd and 4th graders have the same list. So, I got 2 for each kid so that felt like they had a choice. I went home to investigate shoe-gate, and lo and behold, there it was. It must have fallen out of the bag when I thought I’d grabbed it. So, I made the quick decision to change and run to school. I made it with a few minutes to spare. I knew right away that Peyton would not be happy. I was right, when I told her I’d walked to school, she let out the biggest groan! She had her sunglasses and hat in her backpack, so she was all set! She walked without any problems, and we just chatted. She was funny and asked me, “What’s human society?” I knew she was studying communities in social science and different community members. I asked, “Like the society in which we live? A society is like a community.” She said, “Then how did Hope get her dog there?” OH, HUMANE society. Haha…We hung out, practiced piano, and then we headed to get Brandon. My mom was in town, so we headed up to see her. She’d made “spaghetti pie.” I was going to get them pizza, so it was in the same family of foods. We practiced the rest of Peyton’s piano, and then all of Brandon’s before the kids were let loose. I started packing up more of my stuff in my room, and Brandon was a big help! He helped me recycle a bunch of magazines, taking them from downstairs to outside. It saved me a few trips upstairs, especially as I’d already hit 10,000 steps thanks to Peyton. He told me that he played football in PE. He said he got two interceptions! I have no idea if he knows what he’s talking about or if he truly did that. I’d like to see it!

We ate an early dinner with salad and “pie”. My dad came home later, and Brandon asked him if he had a spare ticket to the Cal game tomorrow. My dad said, “Only if you have a Cal hat!” Brandon proudly whipped out one from his backpack. My dad had an extra ticket as it was, so he was going to take him anyway. I asked about sunglasses, and Brandon said, “Yea, Daddy keeps them in my backpack, too!” He was all set, and he was wearing his Cal baseball shirt. But, it was a dirty shirt. At least he had clean underwear, thanks to my mom storing them away there. So, I came home with one kid. One happy kid. She kept saying bye, and Brandon kept telling us, “Good night!” So Brandon will miss out on bike riding and possibly pool time. Oh, and the UCLA game. We’ll see Brandon again on Sunday for dinner for my grandma!
