Peyton’s writing prompt was for “the Best Day ever”. She couldn’t come up with something. I was trying not to prompt her, as I wanted her to truly stand behind what she was writing. She thought about it for awhile and came up with “Sunday”. She wrote about her playdate. So cute! And then drew a picture.
Today, we had a busy day, starting with work, of course. When I went to pick up Peyton, I stopped by to make sure Brandon went to band, since they’d gotten out of school at 1245 pm. Ms A saw me and gasped. Then, I just asked to make sure B wasn’t there. She confirmed NOT in attendance. Peyton and I went home, since I didn’t have a book for her to read. She read her minutes while I washed up the dishes. Then, we returned to get Brandon. He told me the teacher told him he was playing flat. He assured me she said his embouchure is correct. She suspected it was the instrument. So, I called the band place, and we headed over to see the technician. He quoted us 200+80 in parts or 350+ parts for a complete overhaul. Ugh. So much for “saving” money by using my clarinet. It’s old. I get it. The pads are really worn, but they did validate it was a good clarinet. But the next time open for fixing it would not be until February. We were told in August that the first availability to fix it wouldn’t be until November. I should’ve done it back then! I did check another place, more north of us, and we may be taking a short trip up there tomorrow to get a quote. They can do it within 1-2 weeks. Brandon is playing a solo, so it is best to get him a working instrument. He’s sad that he can’t play it at the assembly on Friday morning. The full band will play, but they don’t have time to play the songs for the school. Apparently, there are a lot of soloists for the band concert. Probably all these other tiger mom offspring. We headed back home, and Peyton practiced piano as well as vacuumed. I made a new chore chart from a baseball mom, and Peyton’s been working hard to earn points. She even made her bed today! She was very proud to show me, though it was more of a “well, I tried” moment.

Peyton and Nina sat next to each other at the beginning and chit-chatted with one another, while she did interact with some of the other girls, asking to pass pens and thanking her friends. It’s really cute to see, and good to see it finally taking shape after knowing the girls since last year. We stayed later than usual as I knew there was no school. She hadn’t eaten or showered, so I knew it was going to be a later night. She made a final origami butterfly before I called her over to leave. She did not put up a fight, and in fact, she told me “I just had my fifth yawn.” Her rule: after 2 yawns, it’s time for bed. She finished up dinner, and that’s what she did. She went to sleep wearing socks and a hat. It’s cold!!
I saw this at work today, and it put a smile on my face. 😀
